VW agreed to replace my balusters at no charge, so I upped my rating to 5 stars. I sent 2 emails yesterday clearly explaining my position on this situation. Tina called me first thing this morning. During that call we went through what happened about 3 months ago when I placed my order. There seemed to be a little confusion on what happened during the order process which I think led to the delay on the resolution. Anyway, she called an hour later telling me they were going to replace the balusters at no charge and that she was working to get the order expedited. And remember to take some extra time to plan your project in detail so that you lower the chance of making a mistake. Mistakes with this stuff cost a lot of money. And if your customer service rep seems unsure about a question that you have, ask Tina. Original post I am installing VW rails and posts on a porch I am renovating for a customer. We spent over $10,000 with VW. If you don't do victorian woodwork every day, you need to check everything 3-4 times before you order because of the detail required. I made a mistake with some posts and had to eat $500 replacing them. That was on me. Deborah, the VW rep that I worked with made a mistake on my stair rail balusters and VW wants me to pay the $1,500 that her mistake costs. We had 3 verbal conversations about extending stair balusters and I asked her in an email while finalizing the order if they needed to be extended. During our final pre-order conversation she checked with someone else and that person told her they did not need to be extended. Guess what, they do need to be extended to meet the building code. I don't think Deborah has been there that long and does not know the ins and outs of all the products, but apparently it was my job to train her. For the last 2 weeks I have been working with Tina and the bottom line is they want me to pay the 1500 to replace 22 balusters. If you deal with Tina I suggest you do everything in writing (although that probably won't help since I put the baluster issue in writing before I ordered). You find out how good a company is when you need service after the sale and VW falls flat on their face. They know I need the balusters because I can't finish the porch without them. Between 2001 and 2003, my husband and I needed two porch columns. We ordered them from Vintage Woodworks. They were expensive. $700+. We installed and painted them. Two years later, they both began to rot, and no,they weren't on the ground. Cheap yellow pine? The rot couldn't be fixed. We ended up replacing the columns with custom wrought iron. Fast forward to today. I live in a new old house. I need two turned 96" porch posts. I researched and learned cedar was probably my best option. I searched and up pops Vintage Woodworks. Their porch posts are lovely, BUT they are finger-jointed. Why? I want solid cedar. I'm willing to pay more. I don't want finger-joints, which I consider to be substandard. Again, why? She assured me that their website would be update to reflect changes to shipping charges and she also apologized for the inconvenience. They took back the product without charge and credit back my money. This business is extremely disorganized and not customer focused. They overcharge and are a reseller not a manufacturer of the products they sell. I paid at checkout online for three 12 foot lengths of trim. I was called a week later, and they said they would have to charge me an additional fee for shipping unless I agreed to have the lengths cut to 6 feet. I agreed. Then they callied back twice for more money which I said was unfair since they had already agreed to a price. When I called back four weeks later to ask about why I hadn't received my order. They said it would be another two weeks because they were waiting for delivery from the manufacturer. I said I wanted to cancel my order. They said okay. Then they called back again saying that I would need to pay a 20% restocking fee. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager did not call me back but had the same service rep call And refuse to wave the restocking fee. DO Not use this business!!!! read more

Ordered pvc trim boards, after waiting 3 weeks not shipped, called and was told order would ship "tommorow" website showed it did not ship. called back was told order was 250+ dollars more for shipping. Shipping was included in order when ordered on 6/01/2019. Total waste of time, will never use this company again. Don't waste your time. read more

I will give Vintage Woodworks 3 stars because I think they are fairly priced, and their products are of very good quality. I am having my front porch rebuilt and they have all of the necessary parts and pieces to do this job. They recommend western red cedar for exterior use, and I was willing to pay extra for this upgrade, as it is a job that I will not likely ever have done again. The parts selection is a bit confusing , so I took advantage of their free consultation service to help make my selections. I provided pictures and dimensions and they specified the parts needed. I specifically asked for red cedar per their recommendation. When my order arrived, I unboxed everything and inspected all products for any damage. Everything looked good. When my contractor installed the posts, which are the only structural elements, as they hold up the overhanging roof, I noticed that they looked kind of thin. I measured across the square section and they were 3 1/4" square. The newel posts are 3 1/2" square. I found that odd, as they are supposed to match. I went to the website and discovered that red cedar posts should indeed be 3 1/2", and what I received was actually what they refer to as " traditional wood", not cedar. I then checked my order, and sure enough, traditional wood was clearly stated on the order, so I did not pay for cedar. My complaint is, why when I requested the order to be all cedar if available, traditional wood was provided for the posts. If cedar was not available, I should have been told, and given the option to either select another wood, or wait for availability. I believe that this error should have been caught by the person specifying the products for me. I don't expect Vintage Woodworks to do anything about this, as I didn't make the discovery until the posts were installed. So, I will take credit for not cross checking all parts on my invoice against their catalog descriptions, but I think their free consultation service should have picked up on the fact that the posts they specified were not a match for the rest of this order. read more

Updated review - my mistake for forgetting to update this review. Vintage Woodworks did offer to refund me the cost of what I thought was a damaged post. Sorry this was so late. Be wary! They do not stand behind their products! I bought $4000+ of wood posts, balusters etc. no obvious damage to shipping boxes but when I opened one post when we were ready to paint them it was split down the middle. They will not accept the damaged post back. Granted it has been a few weeks since I received it but I kept it wrapped to protect it. Irregardless, that is poor customer service and I highly recommend you look for a company that takes care of their customers. I will make sure no one I know uses them! read more

I currently own 3 Victorian properties in an Historic District. Vintage Woodworks has been invaluable in providing materials to restore/repair and build circa 1900 porches for over 10 years. The increase in materials has been the one downside I have seen over the last decade. I have been pretty happy with the materials and wood choices. The staff has always been very energetic and helpful when I sent an email or spoke on the phone. I would have given 6 stars if "money was no object", because the quality does not come cheap. The prices are forcing me to use alternative choices more than I would like. read more

Haven't received the two screen doors yet so can't speak for them but I am very disappointed in the company. I should have quit the first time they called me to finalize the order. Because they were rude and impatient, I was a sliver away from cancelling and regret not having done so. Anyway my first order didn't go through. Found out 2 weeks later when called to ask which hinges to buy. Second order made on June 17 was delayed by 8 days because there was no one there to load the doors when the carrier came to pick them up. I found out what happened through the carrier. Vintage Woodworks explanation was that they were abnormally busy. I didn't get the idea they cared that this delay has created all sorts of extra difficulties and damage. Patronizing and not empathetic. I would suggest and will use Coppa Woodworking for screen doors. read more
