This was my first time at Center Stage Theater and my concert was in the Vinyl room. It's a small venue, which makes the concert more intimate. It wasn't super crowded, plus we got there early, so we were able to go right up to the front. But even if we were further back, it would've still been easy to see. The security, entrance staff, and bartender were all super kind. We could leave and come back, which was nice. It was a bit cold inside the venue so I liked being able to go back to my car for a jacket, which most other venues do not allow. They have a parking garage that ranges from $10-25, which is probably the best bet as parking is limited in this area. Overall, I think this is a great venue. It was clean, easy to grab a drink, and incredible to get so close to the artist performing. It really elevates the performance and whole experience. I stopped by on a Saturday night to listen to live music in November 2023. It's part of the Center Stage Theater complex with 3 different stages. First, the location is convenient if you're staying at the Hampton Inn Midtown (just one block to the north). The Vinyl is an intimate room that only holds up to 100 people, so the audience is quite close to the performers. Second, the $18 cover price was reasonable to hear two bands. I actually enjoyed the warm-up performance ("Little Hopes" - a local Atlanta couple who are talented with a positive vibe in their folk/country duets) a lot more than the main event (a Texas band which was way too loud). Can't comment on the food (none is served here), and I skipped the bar given several Yelp reviewer complaints of exorbitant prices. The venue provides free water and cups. One downside is that most people need to stand (not many seats). I arrived 15 minutes before the show started and was able to find a comfortable chair in the back. Look forward to my next visit to Atlanta and seeing another live performance! read more

Went for a small concert here. We're only going to be like 17 people attending. It was cold and raining and they didn't open the door on time because the band was doing soundcheck(the band didn't care as I saw the soundcheck the night before in another city. There was only a small area were we could stay out of the rain. That's the bad. The good was it's a pretty intimate venue was some tables you can sit at or you can stand. The bar has a good selection of beer on draft as well as in can. There is liquor as well. The staff at the door and the bar were all very nice. The sound is great as well. I absolutely LOVED this venue. First of all, the only concerts I've ever gone to in Atlanta have been at the Masquerade (upstairs Heaven stage while moshing/jumping w/ dozens of sweaty bodies that cause the floorboards to sink a few inches--yeah, I get a nostalgic feeling just thinking about it...good times, good times). As I continue the tradition of listening to artists the average person has never heard of, I've come to truly love the intimate setting of smaller venues. I came here to see an acoustic session with Aaron Gillespie (playing songs from the past 15 years from Underoath & The Almost), William Beckett (who played songs from his solo career and The Academy Is), and with a cover by Nathan Hussey (of All Get Out). With the crowd singing/screaming/shouting the lyrics of our childhood, everyone literally becomes family. It's an amazing thing. Surprisingly, the space and the bathrooms are super clean. That and cheap tickets along with AC that actually reaches me has now made Vinyl my new go-to concert site. As you can see from my photos, I was front and center. And as an added bonus, I was able to get Aaron's pick! The only lame feature is parking. Expect to pay (when there's a performance at the Center Stage Theater) upwards of $10-15 depending on the night. Carpool, and let your passengers help with the fee :) read more

I love smaller venues like Vinyl and went there for my second time yesterday. It is basically combined with The Loft (similar in size) and Center Stage (a bigger venue). Previously, I had seen both a Nirvana and Pearl Jam Cover Band. Aside from the fact they both rocked out and had the crowd's full attention, the sound seems just right. I mean, I am no professional sound engineer or anything, but it is not too loud nor too soft. Yesterday evening I went to see two bands: a Sting Cover band and an INXS cover. Again, they rocked. While enjoying a brewski at the bar (a 22 oz. Fat Tire to be exact), I spoke with a manager there... The reason for the abundance of cover bands is that they sell out. I gotta say, I personally really dig seeing cover bands too (I mean, that is unfortunately as close as I am going to encounter Kurt Cobain =( ya know). So, the bartenders are all guys. I am not single, but, for all you ladies, they are not too shabby looking. Their drinks are not outrageously expensive at $4-$6. Thank the lord my bank account did not have to endure a $12 drink like they sell at The Fox. Also, the venue is small so you can get up close and personal with the artisits after they finish. The venue is basically a bar with a stage. And that's that. Both times visiting the entrance fee was under $10. So, if you have a chance to look on the website regarding who will be coming in the near future, who knows, you may be able to catch some Beatles tunes or something!!! I could see up Nneka's nose when she was performing here. When tall people weren't stealing my shine and blocking my view. It's a small venue, perfect for live music and getting up close and personal with your favorite new artist. It gets packed and it gets packed quickly, so if you're pint-sized, you cannot stroll in late, expecting to be surrounded by humanitarians. I was a little apprehensive about smokiness and wrapped my head in a turban but such extravagant measures were not necessary that night, as there were "no smoking" signs throughout. Given other reviews that mention the smokiness, I believe my experience was an anomaly. Still, the chill vibe, intimate setting, and cheap ticket prices are enough to draw me back in despite the threat of bronchial Armageddon. read more

HELLO CLEVELAND! Is what I thought to myself as I watched a battle of the bands competition here last week. Straight out of a scene of Guitar Hero (you know where you start out as a local band at a local venue) this arena is definitely quaint, and will make you feel cool as you become a groupie to your local bands. The ventilation sucks though- you may want to come prepared afterward and stock up on your bottles of Frebreeze now; it definitely smelled like an open ashtray (my poor motorcycle-inspired leather jacket). Oh yeah, there's a lack of seating here, and all concrete floors, so wear comfy shoes, as you will most likely stand forever (my dogs were definitely barking!). read more

They have a slightly weird way of verifying tickets, but as long as you have your email confirmation, ID, and the card you paid with (which they may or may not check), you'll get through the line pretty quickly. read more

This is a small music venue located near the CW building. It's great if you really want to vibe with the musicians. You can get close enough to feel their hearts beating to the rhythm. That's the best idea because its pretty much standing room only and if you're in the back, you won't be able to see. So get close. I give it 3 stars because it's incredibly smokey inside. I had to step outside a few times to get some fresh air. I'm not sure that there's a ventilation system in there...except for the front door. Plus, there was a little mic feedback. But, they had a pretty large bar and it didn't take long for friends to get a drink. The staff was smiling and really seemed to enjoy their jobs! read more

If this place was filled to capacity then I would imagine the location of the bar and restrooms would be inconvenient. God, his son, Jesus Christ, and the Heavens above were all with me in the whole process of catching the first show of Lion Babe's Summer tour!!! I found out about the show on Facebook and quickly dropped everything to acquire tickets and be in the place!!! I had heard of this place but never had been before until the Lion Babe concert. I spoke with representatives of this establish to see what the best option for buying tickets were since I was in a different city than where the tickets were sold. They suggested I call Ticket Alternative, the company who was actually selling the tickets for the show. The employee over the phone even gave me their number and I thought that was so helpful since I would have to look it up myself. I was able to quickly buy tickets to the show and had packed my bags and waited for the day to arrive for the show. I hadn't been on a road trip since September of 2015, so this was something I had to prep for. I took the necessary precautions to ensure a safe trip and actual got to the city of Atlanta in record time. In my youth I would drive to Atlanta almost every weekend with no problem as I got older I lost my focus on driving long distances but for this trip it was like all my worries and fears faded because I was attended a concert for a band I have been following for almost 5 years. It was like God cleared every road block and speed bump out of my way to fulfill a dream of mine, to witness Lion Babe's greatness in person. I had no trouble finding this location and drove through Atlanta like I was a Atlanta born resident. I broke all kinds of laws just to get there when the doors opened for the venue. My fear of heights was irrelevant while driving through some of Atlanta's tricky roadway. As I drove up to the venue I noticed a parking garage and the fee to park was $15 as stated by the signage. The parking attendant located me a spot by a door that was not in use. I squeezed into the space and jumped out the car. I ran to the meter to pay and place the stub in the windshield. Then I realized that the price for parking was $10 for 9 hours instead of $15. I was relieved. I paid and rush to place the stub in the windshield and caught the elevator down to the venue. I rushed out the elevator and into the venue for the security guard to tell me the venue wasn't ready. There was a band onstage doing sound check. I was FLOORED, and it was after 8pm, in which the time was stated that the doors would open per the information on the venues website. I stood around in the lobby for a while until the security shooed everyone inside the Center Stage venue or out the door on the sidewalk to wait for the doors to open to Vinyl. There were many East Indians outside waiting to go in to a concert of Nepathya. I had never heard of them but I goggled them and found out that they were a band from the 90's and was very popular in their culture. I also heard one of the patrons say the concert was sold out. They really came to support their own!!! There weren't many people waiting around to enter Vinyl for the Lion Babe concert maybe about 15 people including me and my mom. I thought that was weird since this was the capital city of Georgia and this band has been around since 2011 and the lead vocalist is the daughter of mega-celebrity, Vanessa Williams. I have followed Mrs. Williams career since the beginning and I would equally love whatever her offsprings do!!! The amount of people that was in line to get in threw me off because I just knew I would have to fight just to get tickets. Finally everyone was able to go inside and get comfortable before the show. This is a standing room only venue which I convenient didn't tell my mother because she wouldn't have gone if she knew that. Once inside there were a few sitting spaces and my mother found one in the corner. The Dj came up to us and explained that that was the space reserved for the band's merchandise. Since they hadn't arrived yet he said he wasn't going to tell us to move and they would probably come in with merchandise at the end of the show, in which he was right. The show was suppose to start at 9pm but didn't start until about 9:25pm. There was an opening act for Lion Babe. They called themselves Japanese Guitar. Their sound was like a mix of rock, hip hop, and soul. Very underground and eclectic, I liked them. They were on for about 20-30 minutes. There was a long pause after their performance before Lion Babe took the stage. When they finally took the stage Jillian explained to everyone that they had just finished up at a prior gig that day and just walked into the building as they setup on stage. Being they played earlier that day they KILLED this concert!!! Jilly danced and sang the whole night!!! After this concert I thought about leaving my life, gassing up my car, and following them around America!!! I'm still in awe at their skill and drive to be amongst the greats in the entertainment industry!!! read more

I think I must have stumbled upon one of Atlanta's best kept secrets. I saw a deal from Scoutmob for $5 tickets to Friday night's performance. I checked out the headliner on youtube (Cody Marlowe and the Dead Flowers) liked it, and sent the video to a friend, who also liked it. So we decided to go, and are so glad we got the energy to go out on a Friday night. Atmosphere: I was a bit worried that it would be smoky, based on earlier reviews. Nope, not at all. No smoking allowed inside, so folks go out on the steps to smoke. Vinyl has a dive bar feel to it, wish I love. There are tables and the bar on one side and then a smaller dance floor and a stage on the other side. It's small and intimate. Most of the people there were in their late 20s to mid-30s and fairly hip. Um, there was the one drunken girl dancing, err flailing about while wearing a mini dress and inappropriate footwear, but for the most part it was chill. Parking: It's free in the Centerstage garage. Easy, convenient, and fairly well lit. Drinks: $12 for two mixed drinks, and then I'm not sure what our cans of beer cost, but not expensive, I'm sure. Music: All three bands were really, really good. Maybe I have low expectations after living in the Midwest and subjecting myself to horrible cover bands for years, but all three bands were amazing. The one thing was a little annoying, is that our tickets and the website said the show started at 9pm, but the first band didn't start until after 10pm, and I think the headliner went on after midnight. It wasn't the end of the world, and my friend and I used the time to catch up and chat. read more

I am a fan of underground music and have wanted to check out Vinyl for awhile but I have often heard that it is small, smokey and you have to stand all night so that has always been a turn off to me. My sister and I decided to get out the house for a show on 8/14 and since the tickets were just $15 bucks we said we would ride through and check it out and if things didn't work out we would just leave. We arrived at 7ish for a show that started at 8PM. We did get a small table in the center of the room facing the stage which was nice and I ordered a few drinks and enjoyed the DJ until the band performed. What really made the experience memorable is how laid back the people were. All different ages and races united to enjoy good music. Can't wait to go back. Next time I will get there early again for a seat because you will be standing at least 2 hours if not. If there is no show at Center Stage then I believe parking is free. read more

I'm only giving this place a low rating because of my experience with the bartenders on February 18th (2012). I didn't get their names, but they were terrible! Straight ignoring customers, people waiting well past 30 minutes, the tenders were taking their sweet time at the register and card print up, talking laughing with each other, as well drinking their very own beers as we're waiting or trying to get ours, it was beyond ridiculous and I can say the worst I've ever experienced. One customer was so fed up she sat on the bar to try and get some service, where she was told that she was ruining it for everyone else and yelled at. One customer started video taping the lack of service and frustrated customers while saying, "the worst bartenders ever" as he panned from one end of the bar to the other. I myself, as well as many others, had it and opted to close out instead of ordering another drink. This was after my sister had waited 30 minutes, only till she had to go to the restroom so bad, and then I another 20 minutes finally waiving down the male tender only because he was at the register (where I'd started to stand). The tenders started yelling at us telling us to "shut up" and they knew we wanted to close out. By the time I'd gotten his attention he wanted to joke with me by saying my card wasn't back there. I was not in the mood and I'd wasted far too much of my time, which was suppose to be enjoying a concert I PAID for, trying to get one beer. I had the right mind to cancel my card and leave! I ended up leaving a $4 tip which was way too much for the situation that night. Too bad, because I'm an over tipper. I understand that at a busy bar you're going to have to wait, but it was the actions of the tenders that lead me to this negative review. read more

A much more intimate setting than the upstairs or neighboring venues attached to the Vinyl. This place has a nice, waist-high stage, again with decent sound and a lot of tables where people can sit around and chill. As with the Loft, if you're a musician loading in here is kind of shitty. They yell at you while you park on the curb and bring it in. Then there's not really anywhere good to park. There are pay area all around, but the only free that I know of is on the other side of the building, kind of hidden between two businesses. I know a lot of people really like coming here, and I think the main reason I don't go is that there are very rarely any acts that come in here that I like. It seems mostly locals or bands no one's ever heard of (even on an independent level) which is fine, but I don't really go out these days just to watch bands. Ah, well, you know. read more

I love this place. Might also be because the first time I was there I got a private show from Shannon McNally. Seriously, there were like 10-15 people there JUST to see the opener. When the opener was finished, she was singing to like 6 people, incl us. (She plays Atlanta at least once a year - check her out!) We've caught a few shows here since: Bitter:Sweet & Uh Huh Her. I love the place. Though it's small and smokey, the people watching is phenomenal. Vinyl is still one of the places you can see a concert for under $20 so I think people just randomly come in from off the street. Even the homeless. Lol. Make sure you check it out. And get here early to claim a spot near the stage if it's someone who's fairly known. Be ready to get pushed and sway with the crowd. read more

My biggest complaint was the parking lot below the venue was full and the lazy bastards didn't seem able to put a "lot full" sign out! Secondly, the name "vinyl" is cool, but the "vinyl lounge" is under the Star Bar in little 5 points - way to be original - ska-doosh. Thirdly, Atlanta is truly a joke of a city - stupid parking meters everywhere, parking is the only real business in this stupid city --hey you would hate to actually make it easy for people to park for free, in a safe environment and spend their money. Overall, this place needs serious improvements, I'm sure the young musicians I saw didn't get much of the door - I recommend Smiths Old Bar or Star Bar for better local venues. read more

The Vinyl is one of my favorites of the smaller venues in Atlanta. As an audience member, I enjoy the intimate atmosphere. The artists are sometimes walking around enjoying the openers and selling their own merch. It depends on the band, but most times I've been to the Vinyl it feels more like you're hanging out with the band in a living room than an impersonal live show. You can stand or sit, whichever is more comfortable. The bathrooms are nice, the bar is stocked, there are even booths to sit in if you like. There is plenty of space to stand in front of the stage, and you can hear the music anywhere in the room, even in the back where the pool table is. The sound is quality. I've also played this venue twice as an artist. Load in is super easy. There is a green room to chill in before you play. It's not the nicest room, but it will do. The staff is super nice and chill, and the merch setup is great. The sound man is accommodating and will let you do a good sound check. I'd play there again. read more

This is not our usual type of place but the sweetie's co-worker has a great band and they had a gig here. There's a large parking deck behind the building with confusing signs about paying to park and being towed but no actual person to pay nor are there any instructions for paying. So we didn't pay, didn't get towed either so that's always a plus. I really don't know the proper procedure for parking there but maybe you can figure it out. When you first walk in Vinyl there is someone sitting there to check your ID and take your money. Just be aware that she does not like you and she will speak to you as little as possible. Or not at all if there's any way she can complete this transaction in silence. Its quite a small place as places in the city tend to be. There is no seating other than a sofa facing the bar from which you cannot see the bands. So everyone's just kind of standing around.... There was only 1 bartender this particular night which was a problem, maybe they were just short that night but it was too busy for only 1. The sound system is surprisingly good, I was impressed. The talent was impressive as well, everyone was pretty entertained. We probably would've never heard of this place had it not been for the co-worker's gig but it was neat to be hanging out with the cool kids for a while. I'm not sure we'll be back as I did worry about being towed and I didn't enjoy standing on my 5-inch heels with nowhere to sit for 2 hours but it was a good, funky little place. read more

I recently saw a Battle of the Bands performance at Vinyl May 14th. It was my first time to see a show there and I really enjoyed it! Vinyl has the lowest capacity of three total venues in the building, but it serves as a cozy, laid back and more intimate environment to see a show. And for the people who need a break from the music, there is an area to lounge and even play a game of pool or darts. This venue also features full bar with a really great staff and very reasonable prices, compared to other prices I've seen at shows. Acoustics are one of the most important things when I go see a show, and I was pleasantly surprised as to the way the sound filled the room as evenly as it did. Another thing I noticed was that there were several bands playing that night and no one was sharing equipment. So I figured that there would be a lot of time between bands, but this wasn't the case. Once a band was done they had them cleared out and the next band in very quickly. Another thing worth mentioning is that the Battle of the Bands show I saw is a competition among younger bands (mid to late teens) to see who the crowd liked best. Thinking the performances wouldn't be anything spectacular, all of the bands actually sounded very good and surpassed my expectations. The prices of tickets for shows at Vinyl are more than reasonable. A lot of cover bands come through here as well as new and upcoming artists, so the prices aren't bad at all. Vinyl can fill up quickly, so if you want to stand at the front of the stage then get there somewhat early. read more

I went to this venue with a friend of the band playing. OK- so A+ there, just for starters. I had a great time here, there is plenty of space for dancing, or standing to watch the band, plus a bunch of seating. Tables & booths. The drinks were very well priced. What more do I want at a venue while watching a rock band? 2 Dollar PBR and Red Stripe tall boys. End. Plus the bartenders are nice and not pushy. Everyone seems a little vague when it comes to smoking in the venue. I'm thinking it's fine but looked down on? Awww. Well I smoked up by the stage and no one ratted me out, so it ended up being A-OK. I think folks just step outside, though. The shows typically start on time, and even though there is parking across the road (15 dollars, guys. Thiefs) You can park underneath the venue, though the signs are a little confusing (Do I pay..? or do I avoid it..?) That's pretty scary in midtown, really. But there was a sign that said, "No parking costs for Vinyl customers." I'm assuming the Vinyl was the only venue in the CW Centerstage that night. I didn't have to pay for parking, which was a godsend, because when I tried across the street- it didn't take me more than "Oh seriously? 15 dollars?- *immediately gets into car*. I think the perks are definitely: drinks, parking underneath, and the intimacy of the stage. A good venue centrally located in Midtown. read more

Intimate venue with a small stage, but very well kept. Favorite thing about this place: the plush couches and arm chairs on one side of the room; perfect for lounging with friends in between sets! This is in addition to your more garden variety bar-height tables and chairs a bit further back on the main floor (just behind what I guess on some nights could be the mosh pit). Least favorite thing: the parking situation: Expect to pay 10-15 bucks, at least, if you are coming here on a Friday night. The venue also happens to be situated in a very busy nook of Midtown, so obnoxious, angry drivers and their blaring horns abound. But the sound system is good, the place is very clean, and I hear that the VIP/dressing rooms are pretty well stocked for the artists/bands! Another thing to know if you happen to be performing: equipment load-in is at the front of the venue at the curb. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at The Vinyl. -The bartenders are more friendly and there are more drink options. -The bathrooms are cleaner. -More seating and cozy aesthetic ambience. -Sound quality seems to be of a higher quality. Ahh I can't express how much I love this place! I've been coming to Vinyl since I was 16, and it's definitely become my favorite venue! I remember seeing Eric Hutchinson here a few years ago, and now he's playing huge arenas! Vinyl has always been good at landing the big acts before and sometimes even after they've "made it." It's an intimate venue which is perfect for when you really want to get into the music! Parking here is kinda tricky. After coming here for a few years I have definitely learned a few tips. I know that Center Stage doesn't own the parking garage connected to the venue. Also, Parking cost varies depending on which venue is having a show that night. When a show's in Center Stage, parking is $10. If there's a show in the Loft, it's $5. And if there's only a show in Vinyl, it's FREE! If you don't want to park in the connected garage there are a few lots around the venue that are great to park at too! The drinks at the bar are very reasonably priced. Especially compared to the other bars I've been to around Atlanta! The bartenders are always super nice whenever I come here, and all of my friends have had great experiences dealing with them as well. It bums me out to see that some of you didn't enjoy your time at Vinyl especially because it's become like a second home to me. Hopefully you'll give it another chance and see how great it is for local musicians and live music! :) read more

A grossly underpowered and amateurish sound system makes for a very frustrating situation as they book some great acts here. The sound is "bright" and lacks fullness. There are two tiny little main speakers that are supposed to cover the whole space. Ridiculous. The ventilation system here also lacks any discernible cooling power, which makes for very uncomfortable show watching. I get the impression that no one cares here, and the same goes for sister venue The Loft upstairs. These venues (including Center Stage which is falling apart with broken seats and shabby disco era carpeting) could be the crown jewel of performing arts in Atlanta, but absentee ownership acts like they simply don't care. read more

If only I could get the music in my car to vibrate my skeleton the way it does at Vinyl. If there is a genre you enjoy that is playing here; I highly recommend you come FEEL it in this venue. Not necessarily loud, but vibrates deep to the core. Love it! read more

The concert itself, Tyler Ward ROCKED! No seats; stand up venue, pretty warm insude because of the crowd. My complaint: the "free parking" in the parking deck, stay away from!!!!! My car along with a few other cars got broken into!!!! Thieves was looking for $$$$ only because my GPS got left behind along with my shopping bags. Calling ATLANTA PD was no point because the cop had the nerve to say what did we want him to do. read more

I visited Vinyl for the first time last night to see a friend's band play (Stellate--they're awesome!) Anyways, the few music venues I've been to in Atlanta (Smith's Olde Bar, Tabernacle) are dingy, run-down and/or smokey--not to mention horrendous bathrooms. So I was soooo pleasantly surprised when we entered Vinyl and its clean bar area and limited amount of smoke in the air (of course we were there early and not many people were smoking yet but I don't remember it getting worse as the night went on). The bathrooms were clean with plenty of extra toilet paper handy. (Big deal to us females!) It's a small venue and you can get really close to the stage if you want--or you can hang back closer to the tables and pool table area if you need some personal space. I had a great time, and the nice clean atmosphere and good acoustics will call me back soon. read more

Ok venue. good service and drinks from the bar. but the whole floor is lava so was really hard to move around.

Nice intimate space for a concert, good acoustics, low ticket prices, big bar. Wish there were more tall pub tables and chairs along the middle & back of the room...low tables don't work when there are people standing in your way. I saw Wakey Wakey here, which was an excellent concert...kudos for booking great acts! Parking is in adjacent parking garages- not many options. read more
