3.2015 & 7.26.2024 Welp this is embarrassing. I've been here twice, had amazing experiences, and didn't pen a review. 2015, my gf who lives in Atlanta recommended while I was visiting on a work trip. Great recommendation. We had a great time catching up over delish food items while listening to jazzy tunes. I even saw a few famous folks while here as well. 1st impressions are important and this one was grrrreeeeaaattt!! Welp on 7.26.2024, Hubby and I visited and sat at a high top at the bar area. We were greeted by Joseph who was pretty attentive, making great recommendations. We came in for drinks and ordered the following Down South Peachtree Tea ... & then I HAD to order the Catfish Nuggets. The drinks and my catfish were all amazing! Ky provided outstanding service! The live music was great and although space to dance was limited we had a great time! I know a juke joint is known for intimate dance space. It took some time to receive our food. The mashed potatoes had too much pepper, salmon medium rare was cooked too much, pork chops with peach glaze outstanding sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, and carrots were good as well. Pro tip: Sort the reviews by newest. There's a pattern... and it exists for a reason. I was really jonesing for some Southern food, and this was the only place close to my downtown hotel that was still open at 9pm. I sat down at the bar at 9:04pm, and placed my order for the seafood gumbo, highly recommended by the hostess (who had the personality of a bumper sticker). I looked around the place. The live band was decent. Not terrible, but definitely not good enough for me to watch. Then I waited. And waited. Thankfully, I was able to doom scroll TikTok, because my food didn't arrive till 9:52pm- the place closes at 10pm! There were 4 customers at the bar (which seats 10), and one of the other patrons sitting near me clearly was annoyed that his take-out order was taking just as long. Do yourself a favor. Do NOT come here. The food itself tasted like microwaved leftovers, and was less than luke warm..... like my son's diaper 12 minutes after he pee'd in it. The place looks really nice and has great decor. The server I had was nice, but the food took over an hour to come out(and was cold). The only redeeming quality was the band and the wings. Their wings were hot, crispy and extremely flavorful! It was honestly the only hot food we had that night. The deviled eggs were pretty good, too mustard heavy for my taste, but I can't fault them for preference. Both our main meals were much too salty!! The grits were cooked well though. The gumbo was ice cold and had an odd aftertaste. The greens were vinegar forward. The band was really what made it a nice date night. They also had pretty good prices(even with the $10 pp entertainment fee). If you're coming to enjoy a band just order the drinks and wings. read more

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I am 50 years old, and this was, without question, the absolute WORST dining experience I have ever had. It started the moment we walked through the door. We were greeted by quite possibly the rudest hostess I have ever encountered. She seemed annoyed with us from the beginning, apparently because we did not have a reservation. After reluctantly agreeing to seat us, she proceeded to explain the restaurant's bizarre list of rules: 1. No cash. Credit cards only. And no paying with your phone. 2. A $5 cover charge per person. 3. A two-hour minimum time requirement. Seriously? What kind of restaurant is this? Then came the REAL disaster. Once seated, we waited at least 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. When our visibly annoyed, bright red-haired waitress finally appeared, we ordered drinks along with deviled eggs, catfish fingers, and cornbread. It took another 20 minutes just to get our drinks. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. After nearly an HOUR with no food and only one round of drinks, a manager stopped by to ask how everything was going. We explained the situation. He apologized, offered to comp a round of drinks, and promised to bring us the restaurant's house specialty cocktail, apparently called a "Cat Daddy." We thought, FINALLY, someone is going to make this right. Those drinks NEVER arrived. By the time we had been there for approximately TWO HOURS, our entire group was DONE. We flagged down another man who appeared to be a manager. He looked sweaty and disheveled, which did absolutely nothing to restore our confidence in the establishment. We explained that we were still waiting on the round of Cat Daddy drinks the previous manager had promised. His response? "Aww nah, we don't have any more Cat Daddys." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That was the final straw. I told him to bring us our check because we were leaving. He stood there awkwardly before finally telling us we could just leave and that he would take care of it. Believe me, we were MORE than happy to oblige. On our way out, we encountered three other groups outside who were considering eating there. We made sure to warn every single one of them about our experience. And believe it or not, there are several MORE things I could add to this review, but I am simply tired of typing. FIFTY YEARS ON THIS EARTH, AND THIS WAS THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Terrible service. Ridiculous rules. Endless waiting. Empty promises. And management that couldn't seem to care less. Easy online reservations. Parking is about a block away and they do validate (will not cover your full time). Great live music as the artist (Regina Trio) was awesome. Great service from hostess to bartender to server. Good service even with the number of tables they had. Food was good and so were drinks. read more

We made a reservation for 2 with Birthday plans on a Saturday. Parking was across the street in a parking deck, not a bad walk. Entered to live music and vocals, the young man had his back to the door but eventually turned around to welcome us. We were promptly seated, in a corner near the bar, and facing the stage. We were told that there is a $10 fee for entertainment and added 18% gratuity to bill & that we had a 2 hour time starting when we are seated, which was 7:54p, btw.. The restroom was clean. And Raven our waitress, came over to let us know she would be with us shortly. The band must have taken a break bc the music started playing.. good vibes and good music. She came back to take our drink order (2 moonshine mules) & the Southern Starter. They both arrived in good timing.. then she took our dinner order.. still no live music.. it's been 20 plus minutes since we arrived and HAD to pay $10 entertainment fee... The appetizer consisted of fried green tomatoes and fried okra with a sauce and goat cheese, very tasty. Nice texture and seasoning for the green tomatoes. The mules were good too.. nothing fancy plus they came in glass not an aluminum cup. There is a large screen playing the video that goes with the songs playing. Which is behind the stage with a drum set and microphone where live performers sing. 2nd Entertainment set started at 8:36p. The band, The Universal Sound Experience, was great. They sang a variety of songs new and old, kept the groove going. Our food arrived shortly after the music and it did not disappoint. We ordered: the chicken with collards and mac n cheese with a side of bourbon glazed sweet potatoes and the trout with green beans and sweet potatoes. Everything tasted so good. Seasoned well and cooked perfect 2nd set ended at 9:30p and the band kept us entertained.. our waitress was attentive... until she wasn't. After our dinner plates were removed, it took her a minute to return and ask us for a check or our dessert order, if any.. it's 9:45PM and finally Raven came back & we had to ask about a check.. we paid the tab. The parking was comped for $6 on our way out. Overall the experience was cool, nothing major. The food was waaay better than the service. Don't get me wrong, Raven was a good waitress/server but the attention to detail mark was missed. In the reservation app Open Table, it stated they do a 'birthday shot', but nothing special was offered or mentioned. Not cool but ok. Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint was selected by my teammates (most of whom never visited the south and were wanting southern comfort food.) Our server Sam yielded EXCELLENT service, he went over and beyond ensuring my colleagues received southern hospitality (thank you Sam.) The staff also went over and beyond to create the "Juke Joint" experience with a live performer and DJ. The only downside was the menu was limited and offered nothing for vegans, and very limited options for vegetarians. The establishment was clean, the service, and ambiance was great; if you're in walking distance and with a large group this restaurant is a good option. read more

Despite that, there's still a $5 "entertainment fee" per person on every check in addition to the auto-gratuity. I looked through multiple photos on Yelp, and everything already looked underwhelming, which is why I settled on something that seemed hard to mess up. To my surprise, even that was disappointing. Unfortunately, my food was cold and dry. The grits ARE NOT traditional grits and resembled overcooked rice. The macaroni&cheese was dry and lackluster, and the chicken thigh tasted as if it was refried, resulting in it being overcooked. Everything needed seasoning. Service felt combative. Our food was dropped off, and the server didn't return until it was time to ask about the check, even though we were still eating. Tourist may be keeping this place open. If you're local, this may be a spot to grab a quick shot and hear the band for a song or two, but I'd lower expectations for everything else. read more

**This review is meant to bring awareness and incite change not to demean this establishment 11Apr I made reservations for 8:30pm. Upon arrival I was informed there would be a $10/person entertainment fee (which was not stated on the website, but I believe in paying so I didn't complain just would have been nice to know beforehand). Although there we passed multiple empty tables, we were seated at a small 2 person table near the storage closet, ladder and register. The placement was very uncomfortable due to the border of the wall disturbing my brother from sitting comfortably (pictured below). Then a table of 8 was sat next to us and if felt like we were at their table that's how close the tables were. Now the food ... . My brother ordered gumbo and i ordered the trout, green beans and mashed sweet potato. Portion size was great but the food was cold, not luke warm, cold! I didn't say anything but my brother asked for a remake. He described his rice as mushy and crunchy at the same time. The waitress walked away (in assuming to the kitchen) then proceeded to take the order of the table of 8 next to us (without removing my brother's plate). About 20 mins later she brings him a remake which was also cold and you can tell had been sitting for a while because the bread they put on top was soggy. My food was under seasoned, the green beans tastes ... earthy and the sweet potato had an overwhelming amount of cinnamon. I was disappointed but didn't complain. I then ordered peach cobbler (to go because we were aggravated) as that's truly the main reason we came. My mistake was not looking at it until we returned to the hotel (picture below). Overall, the live music is the highlight and the food has issues with flavor & temperature. For a party of 2 you are already paying $20 for entertainment plus 18% automatic gratuity before you ever order. This is a dope spot for live music. I'd actually been here before but I hadn't come for the live music. I was actually down the street and I came just then to get a drink while I was waiting for an event to start. So if you're in a downtown area, and need some live entertainment, this is going to be a good spot for you. They have what I would assume would be comfort or soul food all up and down the menu. Parking, you can park anywhere around if you can find parking but they have valet. And I think valet is like $10 or something, so it's not that expensive. I talked to the guy and he had my car parked out front so I can come right out the door, of course I tip him accordingly. You'll come in and be able to see the stage and the plethora seats that they have. If you look to the right, you'll be greeted by the hostess and you can check in. I did that and then I waited at the bar. It's a pretty nice size bar, not really big though, but it has plenty of things to pick from. They have a lot of spicy drinks. I did want something with espresso and they didn't have that so I tried something else. I'll detail that a little bit lower in the review. The bartender was super cool and we chatted up for a little bit while she had the time. I will also say they had TVs at the bar but don't expect it to be a sports bar situation. They're literally a couple TVs so if you have a big group trying to watch a game this will not be a good spot for it. My table was called and in I was able to sit down and got a decent seat. The entertainment, fortunately, started actually in on time fashion. Which sometimes you really hate to get a show that starts at 7:00 and then you don't actually get to see anything until 7:30. They started on time and he started off with some hits. He sang a myriad of different songs so it kind of has something to appeal for everybody. I thought that was great. He took it in a mission break, which is okay, then he came back and killed it a little bit more. Tow. At the end of the night they started dancing in front of the stage, because the weight staff got pretty active and got pretty involved in the show. Encourage other people to do the same so I thought that was pretty cool. We see they really had a good time. Anyway, I thought that the food was okay. The service was okay too. Even though I will say that a few times took a while to get refills. And they forgot something on my order. It happens, I am in the service industry so I understand how that goes, it was just something to note that the last time that I went, they weren't on their A game when it came to that. My first drink was an old fashioned, it was pretty good. My second drink was de Uncle nearest signature cocktail. Which was okay, it may have been a little bit sweet and tangy for me. But of course I drank it because I like Uncle nearest. I wouldn't get that one again. I'd probably just get another old-fashioned. Chicken wings - the wings were pretty good. They were very nice sized wings. They didn't have multiple flavors for them. Which I thought was strange because Atlanta has lemon pepper everything LOL. The waiter tried to gas them up and say that they were better than lemon pepper, clearly he can't have been Southern for that long LOL. But still, they were pretty good. It's just that I would have wished that they had had other flavors versus just taking whatever base flavor the establishment uses. Creole pasta - the Creole pasta is pretty good. It was very flavorful and creamy. Wish it had a little bit more protein in it but what it had in there was okay. You know how you'll eat off of a pasta dish and halfway through. You're already done with the protein and you have nothing but pasta left, that's something you want to avoid. But I'm sure they haven't measured out so I get that. But just saying I wish it had a little bit more or I've been a little bit more balanced. But for the flavor wise, it was nice and flavorful. At the end of the day, I thought it was a good experience the last time I went and I would probably go back. I wouldn't rush for the food because the food was pretty good but I'd rush for the entertainment. The person I had up there shut that joint down. Going from all across the spectrum. I would definitely suggest coming here for entertainment. read more

A friend decided to have her birthday dinner here on a Friday night and for a group of 12, I can genuinely say not one person had a good experience. When I arrived, I stopped by the hostess stand and there was no one there but one of the staff members walked over and I felt that they were already over being at work. Once I let them know I was with a party, I was told that there were a few others that had arrived but since the whole party was not there, we would need to wait which was no problem at all. The issue came when after 45 minutes past our reservation time, we were still not seated. Since this was not my function, I sat and waited to see how things would progress and it only got worse from there. There were plenty of open seats available at the bar but the bartender told us that we could not sit at the bar since we were with a big group and would need to wait to be seated to order a drink if we wanted one. Odd. Not only were there seats available at the bar but there were also empty tables near the bar that I thought maybe we would be sat at but nope. Almost an hour past the reservation time and we were finally seated. At this point I was hungry and holding onto my pleasant demeanor in hopes that the things would get better. We were seated right next to the stage and while the band was really good, the speaker blasting right beside the table was not fun. Our waitress tried her absolute best to take of our group all by herself but she also had other tables and didn't look like she had much help so I felt really bad for her. Anyway the music helped keep the night going but by time we got our food, we had been there two hours. I ordered a water, sweet tea (never got it), and we had a southern starter for the table but I also ordered the salmon cakes ($16) and a side of Mac n cheese ($8) for myself. I tried one of the fried green tomatoes from the starter and the fried onions but the tomatoes were missing seasoning and barely fried. The food situation only got worse from there. My Mac n cheese was extremely salty but the salmon cakes were lacking seasoning and were just poorly made. I ended up not eating anything and sent everything back outside of the stuff from the starter since I didn't order it. We did let the waitress know that we were not happy with the food and she attempted to get a manager to our table but no one ever showed. Next thing I know she lets me know my bill was being comped which I was pleased with because this was a pretty bad situation. While parking was validated for 2 hours, we went well over the allotted time because of all the waiting and I ended up having to pay. Not sure if it's because they were short staffed or if this was just an "off night" but I do not seeing myself willing coming here ever again. Hopefully management will see how hard the folks are working and figure out how to resolve some of these issues. read more

#41 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) Was in ATL on business and went with a group of about 20 to eat here. They were very patient and gracious in finding us room to sit all together. There was live music that was good but so loud that it was almost impossible to have a conversation. I was with some people I hadn't seen in years so we were trying to catch up but it was just too loud. For food I ordered the Southern Starter to share with the table. It came with fried green tomatoes, crispy onions and fried okra. All of this was really good. I especially liked the okra and tomatoes. In the South you have to get the fried chicken so I ordered the Juke Joint Fried Chicken and chose collard greens and grits as my sides. I really enjoyed the flavor of the chicken though it was room temperature by the time I got it. I really enjoyed the collard greens and they had a bit of a spice to them. Made our way while in Atlanta to this great little place that has it all! Music some amazing R&B soulful music and great food! We started by sitting in the bar area so we can hear each other talk, then added an appetizer the Southern starter. Followed by The Juke Joints Fried chicken and an order of Jambalaya. Mmmmm Service was bar service so it was the bar tender helping the full bar and our high top. We added hush puppies, creamed corn and Mac cheese. What an amazing and fun experience! There's a $10 fee per person for entertainment, I'm glad the performers are getting paid well. Highly recommended to make a reservation. The service is a slower pace but good overall with the staff attentive to our table once seated. The jambalaya pasta is very good with a good mix of meats and the sauce is really great! We were told we'd only have two hours at our table & when our time is up, we'd have to leave. It was a weeknight & we had 6:30PM reservations. No waters. 30 minutes in, the one waitstaff took our party's drink orders. 45 minutes in & less than half our drinks were served. Only a few folks were ever served water. 1 hour in the same & the only one waitstaff finally took our orders from the fixed menu that was specific for our group. 1 1/2 hours in & there was still only one waitstaff to bring out appetizers, all of which were lukewarm at best. 2 hours in, we got our salads. Almost 3 hours in, only some of our dinner entrees started coming out. Several of us asked for our dinners to-go since 3 hours was entirely too long a wait & some of us had long commutes back home. The to-go desserts we ordered were clearly made the week before as indicated by the date written on the bottom of the containers. The bananas were dry & gray & the Nilla wafers were complete & total mush. So, clearly, they tried to pass off week-old Banana Pudding. Literally NOTHING about this dining experience was pleasant & definitely not worth the wait. Their overconfident attitude about their dinning experience did not live up to the hype at all. If you don't know how to manage a large party, then please don't accept the reservation. Inadequate service & poor quality food preparation all-round. In short: The live band is the only plus about this restaurant. Food is okay, there's better elsewhere. Service if received is lacking. For a place with so many conditions for dining it should have better service. Longer: Arrived and was seated. The hostess brought waiter and said that our waitress would be out shortly. Shortly was 10 mins later and it wasn't until we were about to leave that the manager came over to take our order. The food took another 35mins to come and then we were missing an entree to which our waitress (that we never met) told us she didn't know what the entree was since she didn't take the order. The food was like warm and missing flavor. It looks like it's auto be flavorful but is lackluster. Portions are large and good for the price. About a 1-1.5: We checked out Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint as a group for an early dinner; note that nowhere on the site is it mentioned that each member of your party will get charged $5 for the 'live music', automatically, added to your check. Also, you have a limit of 2 hours at your table. Getting seated was prompt, and we had a pretty good view of the stage and the performers without much obstruction. The menu is very limited, but they do 'run out' of items (aka, not prepared on time); we went the first day that they had opened for the week, and they were already out of several entrees... I tried: +the Fried Green Tomatoes - the batter was overfried, and the tomatoes were just not ripened nor were they cooked long enough +Juke Cheeseburger - I actually wanted to try their Braised Short Rib, but they were out; the burger itself was okay, as it came with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, served with a side of fries; the fries were not made-to-order, as they were cold and soggy Our server was inattentive and rarely checked in on us. She also was not detail-oriented and didn't really listen; she carelessly dropped off dessert that no one ordered, and then tried to blame it on us... really? The only decent part of this experience was the live music. In between sets, they played old-school music videos. The place is a bit dark, and definitely could use a deep clean. Came here on a Tuesday night around 6pm for dinner. We were told it was a 2 hour seating reservation since it apparently gets popping and because there was live music at 7pm we would be charged a five dollar entertainment fee per person. All of this was fine. We had heard super good reviews so we were excited. The music was fire. My group of 5 really had a good time singing and dancing and enjoying the music. The entertainment was a Black woman singer and her band. Unfortunately the name eludes me but they deserve their roses. The atmosphere was okay. A little shocking. We expected a juke joint and a contagious energy full of love and family and good vibes. When we got there it was 98 percent white people and the energy was flat. It was super quiet despite it being pretty full. There was a conference in town and we imagine thats why there wasn't a lot of diversity there. Which is cool. But didn't really match our expectations. I'm assuming it was just for this week. Which leads to the most disappointing part of the whole night. The food. The reviews of the food did not match what we ate. It felt like it lacked a lot of seasoning which my group is attributing to the staff shifting their recipes to cater to the people who came to the conference. It honestly tasted a lil bland. Like they pulled back from using too much paprika. I refuse to believe that's how it always taste. So I'm assuming it was a different recipe for the week. We all ordered something different and shared family style. I ordered the catfish and grits which was the star of the show. The grits was cold but the catfish was cooked to perfection. Others ordered the chicken and waffles. The jumbulya. Fried pickles. And others. All of which was underwhelming. To end on a high note. The staff couldn't have been better. We felt the southern hospitality for sure. I wouldn't change a thing with them. Lakendra was our waitresses and she held us down. The drinks were also delicious. We had a few Ms Celia's each and some whiskey and some wine and that made the night fun. I'll be in Atlanta again in a few months and I'll give this place another try to retry the food which was a 2 star. Went here last Saturday for a birthday dinner and when I tell you the service and food was horrible. Check in $10 entertainment fee for "the band" for each person 7 of us. Ok we good with that. Then the server had a not so good attitude we had to ask for refills on the drinks she brought the food out never ask if anyone needed anything ketchup hot sauce or if the food was even correct. But at the end of the service she knew how to collect the money. We spent over $400 at that place for her to eventually tell one of our party members she had to learn to not take her frustrations out on customers. Never again o used to love this place won't see me or my family/friends. Oh and the Atlanta area ay 2hour min to eat and sit but the place is not even full. read more

I made the reservation on OpenTable, I was a few minutes late from arriving late from a road trip so it took about 10 minutes to be seated. Before seating we were told it's cashless and there is $10 entertainment fee. Once seated our server Ty greeted us and was swift with getting our drinks and food order, she helped with choosing a dish, she was nice. The food came out at a nice timely manner, made fried chicken dish was delish! Nice and crispy with a hint and sweetness that made it even better; my Mac n cheese got better with every bite! The collard greens paired well with both! The food overall was like Sunday dinner. What they call "comfort food". My drink was also good! Now the entertainment; was better than I expected ! We went to sweet georgias Juke joint for brunch yesterday and it was a great experience! We had our two year old son with us and we walked in and he said "this is awesome!" to which both my husband and I agreed, the atmosphere is super cool and the music was on point! Everyone we interacted with was so friendly, from the host, our server, and the manage! The food was SO good! We got the southern sampler platter, the peach salmon (I subbed the bourbon sweet potatoes instead on mashed potatoes and it was SO freaking good!) the fried chicken had a drizzle of sauce on it which was really good too, fried to perfection! 10 out of 10 recommend! read more
