This is an Atlanta staple and after living here for decades, I finally went. My friend is born and raised, they had nothing but great things to say. Located off of Piedmont Avenue - a one way street, look for the valet sign to pull in on the left. The cafe sits below street level - it's downstairs, like in the basement. But the vibes and energy shout sexy, speakeasy and spot to see new or rising talent. On this visit there wasn't any special guest or talent - it was Open Mic. Sign up and save $10 on the cover at the door. They seat you and servers provide menus for food and drinks. We had the grilled shrimp, others had pizza and light bites. The Texas margaritas were delicious and served strong. The talent was engaging and ranged from poets to singers. Overall, I'd definitely come back and check ahead to see who's performing. My boyfriend surprised me with a date night here! Parking is on the side of the building, valet only but it's only $5. Inside is definitely a small and cozy experience! Good amount of seating that gives off a family basement kind of vibe. I'll start with the con: the service here was subpar. We sat in the overflow area and there were tables all around us. The two servers that we saw in the area repeatedly NEVER came to our table to greet us or take our order. My boyfriend ended up having to walk himself to the bar to get a drink and order some food for us. Even once the food came I had to flag her down to get another drink. We were not hidden or hard to see, so that was very disappointing. The comedy show was really good. The comedians were fun and funny. Each one's personality was so different and big and we laughed the whole night. This hole in the wall spot was a great time. The drinks were amazing and though they're are room for improvement for what it is, it's as good as it could be. There's multiple spots of seating. Came here to listen to the band. I wanted to make a reservation for a table but you have to call to do so. It would be easier if this cluld be done online since they dont seem to be very responsive to phone or email. When I arrived, I enjoyed the band but there was alot of confusion amongst the staff about when they close. They ended up closing when the band went off at midnight but that conflicts with hours posted online. read more

Kat's Cafe is an intimate spot with warm and welcoming customers and employees i.e the vibes/ambience here is EVERYTHING! We came here on a Thursday night and had the best time! One should note that quality live music is definitely a thing here. Additionally, if you have talent, you can surely bless the stage. Drinks are excellent and food portions are great. Most importantly it's all very affordable! I had the Sing that Song drink and the Cajun Shrimp pizza. The Cajun Shrimp pizza was fairly tasty, however, it wasn't given much Cajun per se. The food, I tried the chicken fajita quesadilla, and it was perfectly done, from the amount of fajitas in the quesadilla, how well seasoned it was and how well it tasted with the chicken, sour cream and salsa, it was very flavorful. For the quesadilla, the cost was typical, it was $13.99 and came with salsa and sour cream. The service was okay, it took a while for the quesadilla to come out. The ambiance, it is a hole in the wall type of place for up and coming talent. They host open mic each Thursday and that was what I was attending. read more

I want to really like Kat's Café, but their service can be pretty bad. The last time I went there I went with my boyfriend and we had to sit in kind of a not ideal location in the café, but I understood because it was comedy night and there were a lot of people there. However, we were right at the bar and yet it was still impossible to even get the bartender's attention to try to order anything. I believe we ordered one drink, but I wanted to order some food. I like to eat food while I'm watching a comedy show, but because the bartenders would not even look at us, I was sitting there the whole time hungry, and was not able to order a thing. I give this place three stars though because I am entertained when I'm there. The comedy is pretty good and I've also come on there like jazz/open mic night and I enjoyed that as well so entertainment wise they do a great job with that, but service wise not so much. read more

Lack of a star for the horrible bar service, as I & another patron sat at the bar for over 15 minutes without a single hello or nod our way. Once the young lady came over we bombarded her with our orders. I ended up having a liquid meal as there's nothing for the V-Crew, minus a bland looking salad. With the heavy plant based options nowadays, it should be an easy note (get it) to add an item for the V-Crew on the slim menu as it is. There's a $10 Cover Door, $5 for Valet & the restrooms needed to be tidied up. Overall a quaint, hole in the wall (good way) music cafe located down the steps/hill from the Piedmont Avenue address...you really have to look for the hanging signage. Quick tip: If you decide to come, pre-game before you get here or watch them make your drink. They serve juice, not cocktails. Drinks: My bf brought me here (my second time coming), and I wasn't happy with the drinks the first time I came. Same thing happened the second time. Why am I tasting 95% juice and 5% alcohol for a "cocktail"? The manager, who doesn't seem to have any managerial skills, refused to give us sufficient drinks instead of the Tropicana we were served. That's the last attempt I am making to support this establishment. When I called my friends about this place, they apparently took this place off of their lists months ago. Too bad. Customer service (or lack thereof): As soon as our waitress came up she had an attitude. If you don't want to be at work, stay home. Even the couple that was sitting behind us snapped at her because of her attitude. 2 thumbs down. Would I recommend? Absolutely not. Will I be back? I really enjoyed my experience at Kats. I love love love dinner and music. I went on Thursday which is open mic night and all of the artists were so good ! It was free entry to get in and only $5 to park. The service drinks and food was good. It was a cheap date night and it was still romantic. Finding this place was kind of confusing at first because the GPS brought us to a different location. The signage is HORRIBLE. It's black with very faint gold lettering. You literally can't see it at night. I came here for a pre-Valentine's Day comedy show and had such a good time! We showed up around 8pm and made it just in time for Happy Hour. Drinks were only $5. They had a whole Valentine's theme going, so I ordered the baby maker (ha-ha). We reserved seats on Eventbrite so we could sit up front for the show, but we could have also just walked in and sat anywhere. I will say that by 9pm it was packed and seating became limited. They had waitresses coming around for patrons to take food and drink orders, which was great (but service was a bit slow). The emcee that night was Tyler Chronicles or Tyler the Chronic Comic from Bossip/WE tv. He was great and really had the crowd going. That night comics from Def Jam, Comedy Central, and many local comedians were there. It was a great experience. I would definitely go back and check out another show there. read more

This is a nice spot for a date or intimate setting but there's not much talking if you're close to the show. A few large tables for groups are available as well. I'm glad we finally made it to Kat's Cafe last night. All this time I assumed Kat was a man. ‍ Kat is a woman bringing live music and entertainment for the culture! I've been saying I'm going for years...Don't be like me, go check out this intimate live music venue. We started at the bar for drinks and moved to a table for the show. The food menu is limited but the drinks and music were all that! I'd have given them 5 stars if they had some more items in the menu and if the service was faster. Eva Kennedy was amazing! The Maestro, the guy she had sing w/ her on the 1st set and she had sing a sing at the end of the last set was awesome also! He turned the place out! The atmosphere was lit for the grown and sexy! We had a GREAT time last night. I can't wait to return. They also have spoken word, open mic, & comedy nights. We paid a $10 cover last night and it was worth it. There's complimentary valet on-site. Last night was my first night going to this establishment it was nice. Crowded. So seats were first come first serve. The only issue I had was that the server failed to let me know that she was going to charge me for another drink (Shirley temple) when I asked for a refill. I'm a server myself so the least you could've done was given me the choice to see if I wanted to pay for ANOTHER Shirley temple just for the grenadine.
