After calling several different plumbers that seem to not be aware of what I was asking for Avalon knew what I was asking for right away. Did not charge me for coming out to quote me for a major project. Super helpful with explaining the process of how they have to work with the city, pulling permits, even coordinated the utility company to come out and get my certificate for compliance. #Cadillacservice Will be definitely calling them for other plumbing needs for my new house

We had been using a different plumbing company who had their whole admin team turn over and…read moreunfortunately their customer service and responsiveness tanked, so we reached out to Avalon in a bit of a pickle. All of the plumbers we've worked with have been knowledgeable and great, and Regina who answers the phones always gets back to my quickly (noting they do not provide 24/7 emergency services - but that's clear on their website and they tell you upfront). They've descaled our tankless water heater, double checked how it was set up by the previous plumbing company, connected a tub overflow drain that was just draining into the space between floors and dripping down out of a heating vent to the first floor (aka it wasn't ever connected when the tub was installed before we were involved), and more. I also really appreciate how their staff is willing to take the time for me to watch them and learn - I knew nothing about plumbing and have learned so much. They also have taken ownership of some small mistakes - just stuff like once someone came out to I thought descale our tankless water heater but he thought he was just assessing it - and they didn't charge me for that visit and came back as soon as it fit into my schedule. Since things like that happen and everyone is doing their best, I really appreciate companies like Avalon that just say whoops sorry, let's see how we can fix this. They also all are totally willing to wear shoe covers and masks when inside our house, are tidy and communicative, and just generally nice people to be around - which we haven't found to be the case with all other companies in this field. I recently left a slightly panicked message overnight about a possible gas leak (not being sure who to call - turns out the gas company was actually who I should call and they responded quickly) and Regina called me back right as they opened the next day to check in even though my question was outside of Avalon's scope. That's the kind of company they are and that's why I definitely recommend Avalon Plumbing whenever anyone asks me for a recommendation - they're great!

I reached out to get some cat wall furniture hung up (shelves, steps, and other things for the cat to jump and climb on), and it was super easy to get a quote and schedule a time. I imagine it's a somewhat small job for him compared to some of the reviews I saw here, but it's something I didn't have the skills to do myself, and I appreciated him taking it on. I will definitely be reaching out again in the future! It's such a relief to have someone I can rely on to take care of these things. He was professional, quick, and I am so happy seeing the shelves up (and knowing they're secure). Ted has one more fan in our email list!

This is going to be long, but it needs to be, because the experience unfolded slowly and then all…read moreat once. I hired Ted because he seemed professional at first: reasonable quote (not the cheapest), clear scope of work, and a stated one-year warranty. I waited about a week for him to come out. The first red flag was timing. He said he'd arrive between 9:30 and 10:30. At 9:50 he texted that he was "wrapping up his morning job" and needed to get fuel, with no ETA. He arrived at 11. When he came in, he put foot covers on his shoes -- and then immediately stepped outside and back into my house, tracking dirt onto my carpet. He didn't have enough material to protect the floors where he'd be working, so I laid down plastic myself. He didn't seem particularly concerned about keeping the space clean. As the work began, things went downhill quickly. Ted started cutting into my walls and ceiling far more than expected. What should have been a relatively contained wiring job turned into multiple drywall openings -- including a long, thin strip cut from the power box toward the bathroom. As I write this, I have a drywall professional repairing all of these cuts. Once I realized how much drywall he was removing, I asked him to stop cutting and to check with me before making any more openings. I also asked how much he would charge to repair the drywall. He responded defensively, saying, "I didn't agree to that -- check your texts," as if I were asking him to fix it for free. He even threatened to leave. I clarified several times that I was simply asking for a quote. He never gave one, and instead just continued working. The long strip he cut was supposedly needed to run a new power wire. Ted initially insisted the wire would need to run under the ceiling joists -- essentially beneath the drywall -- and that I'd "just mud and tape it." I've done enough drywall work myself to know that this is incorrect. I used a flashlight to show him existing wiring running properly over the joists. He eventually conceded that it might be possible. Later, he called me to say he'd need to extend the strip further because he didn't have a straight pole to fish the wire. I paused, thought about it, and realized I owned steel fish tape -- the correct tool for exactly this purpose. When I showed it to him, he glanced at it and said, dismissively, "That's for conduit," and turned away. I explained that fish tape is used for precisely this situation. He repeated, "It's for conduit," several times. When I tried to demonstrate its flexibility, he raised his voice and said, "Look, I don't want to get lectured, okay?" At that point, I had to tell him not to raise his voice at me in my own home. Eventually I suggested he just try the tool, and if he needed help I'd assist. He asked if we could "do it together," which struck me as odd. I declined. Later, I found the wire successfully run over the joists -- using the fish tape. After calling me again about needing yet another cut, I asked him to leave. By that point, the house was extremely dirty. Drywall dust was everywhere, and the carpet was full of debris. Ted insisted on vacuuming before leaving, despite the job being unfinished and the walls and ceiling being full of holes. I told him it was fine and that he could go. He kept insisting. At one point I looked down and noticed he was standing on my carpet without foot covers, after removing the plastic I'd put down. I finally had to tell him to leave very directly. The next day, a licensed electrician came to finish and clean up the work. He installed the remaining fan with zero additional cuts except for the one required to vent it outside -- not the cuts Ted said were necessary. We actually laughed together at how bad the previous work was. He also confirmed that the new circuit Ted had run was unnecessary. After checking the fan's power requirements, he simply removed the cable Ted installed and powered the fan from the existing circuit. I'm now having him come back later this week to fix a mistake Ted made on the fan he did install. One final detail: Ted left for about two and a half hours mid-job, and when he returned, he immediately smoked a cigarette in front of my house. I'm honestly baffled by how this person has positive reviews. I regret hiring him, waiting for him, and not ending the job sooner. Ted started out sounding professional, but that professionalism did not extend to his workmanship, communication, or conduct in my home. Edit: I see this guy replied to my review! I'm disappointed to see this response mischaracterizes both my expectations and my conduct. At no point did I ask for free drywall repair, nor did I yell at or curse at anyone. The core facts remain unchanged: unnecessary drywall cuts were made, the work was left unfinished, and a licensed electrician later confirmed much of the work was unnecessary and corrected it. I've shared my experience so others can make an informed decision.

BEWARE! BeastBay almost blew my house up!…read more Another thing to note, if you are considering doing business with them, is that they have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau due to 2 other complaints they did not respond to. I had used BeastBay Plumbing once before when we had a drain problem. They were responsive, and the tech was friendly and informative. He fixed the problem, and we signed up for their loyalty program. I knew our water heater was nearing the end of its lifespan, and I called them to get a quote. Sydney came out and explained the options. I ended up going for the tankless water heater. I also got quotes to replace a kitchen faucet and install a new shower fixture. The techs who showed up were courteous, but they arrived a couple of hours later than I had expected. I anticipated the faucet and shower fixture jobs to go fairly quickly, but they took almost two hours. Then they started work on the water heater. What Sydney hadn't discussed was the need for direct power to the tankless system or a new vent. The tech wanted to open the ceiling up, but as it's a two-story house with a tile roof, that was a hard no. They ended up doing a vent through the side of the house. At first, they said it would be a two-day job, which wasn't mentioned when I booked, but after getting the side vent in, they said they'd finish that day. Here is where things go very, very badly. The next day, I went into the garage to move a car. I was overwhelmed by the smell of gas. I called BeastBay, and the phone center told me to call 911, which I did. In the meantime, I opened the garage door. I realized after I hit the button that, should anything spark, the whole place could go up. Thankfully, it didn't. The fire department came out, pinpointed that BeatBay had not tightened the gas connection to the tankless unit and turned it off. Then began a 2+ hour marathon of calls to BeastBay to get someone out immediately. Except they didn't. I had to call the office 4 times and then had 3 separate conversations with them. In the meantime, Sydney came back out to see what was up. I explained the severity of the gas leak and told him I wasn't happy he hadn't mentioned needing direct power or the need to re-vent from the previous water heater. Sydney indicated there would be a small rebate, and they would service the unit going forward free of charge. The tech showed up, apologized for not securing the gas line, tightened it up, and left. This was a week and a half ago. I heard nothing more from BeastBay. I called the office on Wednesday and asked that they memorialize what Sydney had said during our meeting in writing. The woman who answered, Sarah?, said she'd have to check with Sydney, in a tone that said she didn't believe he had offered anything. She came back and said that was correct, and she'd send it over by email. Nothing was forthcoming. I've called the office twice today, twice no one answered, and the third time it went to a general voicemail. I received a phone call 2 + weeks after the incident. The woman I spoke to apologized, but assumed everything was fine. I explained how VERY unhappy I was with both the work they did and their lack of responsiveness. She said she would talk to the owner and get back to me yesterday or today. No call. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. To say I'm disappointed in the service is an understatement. This is a massive failure on every front.
