I have been to this nail salon four times: once for a regular mani, once for a pedicure and twice for a no-chip and have always had an amazing experience. I typically choose a no-chip manicure, and I swear that the no-chips done at VIP last longer than any place I've been to in the surrounding area (including North Shore). And for $35/no-chip mani, this place cannot be beat - I literally had one set of polish last four weeks, and if it weren't for my atrocious grow-out, I probably would have kept them on longer. I have been going to get my nails done at VIP for the past 5 years or so, and have always had a great experience-from the occasional no-chip for work trips when I need my nails to last for a long time, to the normal mani/pedi! My usual is a mani/pedi early in the week (which they do for $30 M-W), it's such a nice way to take an hour and pamper myself for a price that doesn't break the bank! I usually call to make an appt just in case, and whether I have to leave a message or I call during business hours, they always accommodate my request and I receive such a warm greeting when I arrive-I truly always feel like a VIP here. I stopped in on a Wednesday for a walk-in appointment (no-chip manicure polish change/manicure) and the lady at the desk was very nice. I was directed to a table right away as it was dinner time and they were practically empty. The woman who did the manicure pretty much ruined my nails. The polish remover didn't sit on my nails long enough, so she had trouble getting it off. Instead of reapplying the remover and giving it a few more minutes, like they do at more upscale salons, she sawed away at my nails with every dirty implement she could fish out of her drawer. I asked questions ("Can we put more remover on them?" "This stick hurts-can you use something else?") but there was a language barrier and she kept working and I was too timid to pull my hands away and leave. My fault, I know. After 30 minutes of abuse, my manicure looks average at best, and my nails are now so weak that it hurts to scratch my head or pull my sheets up or any of the other hundreds of things one does with her fingers. I came here to get a pedicure, French pedicure. Off top the lady cut my toe nails short. I was pissed. Like don't ask me about cut down, just cut as short as you can type of short. Then, when it came to cutting cuticle, there was nothing in the cuticle cutter. So I merely said hey can you cut some more cuticle. Everything was just a problem overall. So when it finally came down to putting the French on my toes it wasn't symmetrical. I just said it's fine I can pay and go somewhere else. They kept insisting on the problem and I tried to explain as much as my mental would let me without the attitude. But in reality they didn't care what I wanted, they just wanted to get paid. Ashley treated me to a spa morning at VIP and it....was.....fabulous!!!! I have never had a manicure or pedicure before and was pretty leery about walking in. However, the staff was so friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming. We arrived around 930am on a Saturday morning and sat right down in their comfy, black, leather massaging chairs. There was a flat screen on the wall playing "A Night at the Museum." It was very relaxing having my feet pampered while watching a movie...I highly recommend it! The manicure was also great. I don't have much fingernail to work with, but the woman was very gentle and did what she could with my claws. It was $30 for the mani/pedi package. I will definitely be back! read more

LOVE THIS PLACE..... I don't even know where to begin. Gross gloomy March weekend and I decided it was time to make my love appreciate the finer things in life. Mike's birthday present, a manicure and pedicure with me! You're welcome :) So, we looked up a few places and decided that the prices here and the reviews looked pretty good. Off we went. We walked in and there were a couple people in there, but the staff looked ready for us! We were seated in the very comfy pedi chairs and dipped our tootsies in the perfectly heated water bath. Instant relaxation! They started on Mike and he was a little ticklish at first, but quickly realized why us gals are always getting our toes played with. After a wonderful rub down, shave off, and polish it was time for the hands! This place really knows how to get you relaxed. By far the best place I've been to in terms of attention. They knew what they were massaging and why. It was a nice change of pace from the everyday nail shop. Also, at the end, while your nails are drying....they massage your shoulders!!!! BBBBBBBONUS! I'm a firm believer that women, especially females who run and have black nails need to have a pedicure in the summer time to show off when wearing sandals and open toed shoes. This place is a walking distance from my home so I walked over Friday afternoon to give them a try. They have a manicure and pedicure special for $30. I just ended up getting a pedicure since I didn't have time to sit for a manicure. I paid $25 for the pedicure and tipped generously so it would have been more advantageous to get the manicure too. Anyway, the nail salon is on the small side, but bright, clean and relatively inviting. I was welcomed by a gentleman who I assume is the owner. I picked out my nail color and waited while he set up the water basin for my feet for the pedicure. Their massage chairs are pretty nice and there are several magazines on a table nearby for your reading pleasure. My biggest gripe was that there didn't seem to be enough staff (maybe 3-4 techs + the man who is not a tech - though he did some work on my feet - just did not apply the color) for the amount of people that were there. Thankfully I wasn't too pressed for time so I could wait. Other than that, my technician was very friendly and the pedicure turned out fine. I showered as soon as I got home and it held up well. I keep coming back because of the $30 mani and pedi special. In addition, the rewards card is a plus. Amy is great. And the rest of the staff is quiet nice and professional. Otherwise the salon is very pleasant, modern, and clean. I like it that it tends to be peaceful and there are no loud conversing technicians which is my pet peeve. It may not be the very best, completely flawless, job you've ever had done but it's plenty good for $40 including tax and tip. The place is clean and organized, sanitation equipment is in plain sight and was being used, they have MANY colors to choose from, 5 manicure stations and 4 massaging spa pedicure chairs, as well as a dryer. I really like this salon! I tan at Awesome Tan a couple spots down from this nail salon, and decided to get a mani pedi to try it out. The salon itself it very clean and nicely decorated. The pedi was amazing, I was sitting next to a woman with sensitive skin and the nail tech was suggesting different treatments and massages in order to give her the best experience. My nail tech may precise and took her time, and I had an amazingly refreshing pedicure. I really liked that they had The Devil Wears Prada playing on the flat screen in the room, because I had something to entertain me other than reading bad tabloid magazines or watching the nail tech paint my toes. The manicure was not so special. When the nail tech applied cuticle oil, she then applied the nail polish right afterwards. Once I left, the area surrounding my cuticles erroded the polish and left a weird texture. I really like the overall experience, but it is frustrating when a nail salon can't get a simple manicure right. :( read more

I have been going to VIP Nails since they bought the business many years ago and I have always been very happy with everything. Unfortunately, I had a dip manicure done not even 2 weeks ago ($45) and it chipped after a week. I had made an appointment to have it removed and a regular manicure. When I went in today, I told Jennifer (manager or owner) about it chipping after a week. She preceded to remove the nail polish and do a manicure. No apology or offer to fix it which kind of surprised me. Anyways I thought maybe she would at least not charge me for the manicure. Nope, charged me for it plus $7 to remove my old polish. I am so disappointed in the place and am now looking for a new place to have my nails done! read more

Not good services. My cuticles were not attended to on all fingers. They used the razor on the bottom of my feet and not the heel! When I called to complain so they would know they receptionist was actually angry with me. "So what you want-come back and I fix it". Never an apology or anything. My feet were not soft. The color on the no chip was not consistent. When I mentioned this during the manicure, I could hardly understand what she was saying...her answer was to put another coat on. I would not go back there. And the polish is not to the edge of the nails. So many other options. don't waste your money here. read more

I just moved to Vernon hills recently and I tried a couple of new nail salons in the area and was very disappointed until I I found this salon. I am very very picky and like to use my own glitter gel polish. A lot of people don't like to use this kind of polish and aren't very good at putting it on. This was definely not the case here! They are super nice and very, very good at what they do! I love that they play movies which makes the time fly. I'm not very good at sitting still and usually I get irritated by the end of a manicure but I never feel like that at VIP! I really can't say enough about how great everyone is at this salon! I give them my highest recommendation! And they have a card program so you can get a free manicure after ten visits. I've not encountered this at many places. The overall experience was not horrible, and that's why I'm giving 3 stars. The place was clean, multiple color selections, and my nail tech Vin was super friendly. But unfortunately, she did a horrible job on my manicure. They are lumpy, sharp at the edges, and the color is not even (2 of the nails are much darker based on how thick a coat he put on). I had already asked a few times for she to get closer to the edges - it drives me crazy when there is a huge gap on the edge of nail that they just leave unpainted, so I didn't have the effort to request any more corrections. I don't understand how someone could be happy w/ their work when they look so bad...I wonder if he really was that oblivious or if he was just in such a hurry that he didn't care. Regardless, the nail tech working next to us did a fabulous job on another lady's no-chip - so there is hope (and I should've gotten his name!). Another girl had come in requesting Robin, so she must be good as well. Another woman technician seemed pretty iffy b/c one girl asked for her to stop so she could wait for someone else, and then whoever She went to next complained that they were So maybe the lesson is to make sure when you find a good tech, get their name and stick w/ them. I just went for a manicure/pedicure with my mom and sister and the ladies there did a great job! The only thing i didn't love was that they have a $30 special for mani/pedi but if you're getting no chip done they won't just add the no chip price on to it - you get no deal at all. I just got it done so i can't speak to how long the no chip lasts but the service and quality was great! I would come back for sure. Also, i went on my lunch break and they had us in and out so fast. Granted, we were the only people in there, but i called ahead and they assured me that they would have 3 people to take care of us. read more

I made a spontaneous decision to check out VIP Nail & Spa today with my friend when we saw the sign for $30 Mani/Pedis (Mon- Wed only). The interior is clean and welcoming. Decorations and set up are pretty standard. They have 4 pedicure chairs and approximately 4-5 manicure tables. There were about 3 nail techs working today, and we only waited 15 minutes to be helped. The service in my opinion was GREAT. The staff is SUPER nice and courteous. They give great massages and definitely make you feel relaxed and not at all rushed (I HATE it when nail techs rush you). They also have a nice flat screen TV, and today they played the movie "What happens in Vegas," which I got to finish watching from beginning to end while I was there (stayed till the end to dry my nails under the fan). The work they did on my nails was pretty good, and I have no complaints in that aspect. The only negative comment I'll make is not in regards to the nail shop, but regarding some of the other women who were also receiving their mani/pedis today....maybe they were just old and grumpy, but they were so rude to the people who worked at the nail salon...and complained a lot/had poor attitudes. I can't stand rude people like that...just hearing their holier-than-thou attitudes annoyed me. Next time, if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all...I believe nail techs are already having to put up with so much in terms of dealing with dirty/ugly nails and feet (at least I could never do that job). I felt so bad that I tipped a bit more than I normally would just to compensate for the poor attitudes of the older ladies (plus my friend told me they only tipped like $1-$2 each ugh). read more

One of the worst salons I've been to, and I've been to many different ones from New Mexico, Texas, California and now Illinois. Went for a mani pedi and the First Lady that started my mani, did a half a** job, didn't remove any extra skin or cuticle, and when she filed and buffed my nails it was just a once over and now my nails are uneven and rough. As for my pedicure, I agree I had a thicker glitter gel polish on my toes and was a little more difficult to remove but I believe professionals should know how to handle that. Two technicians had to figure it out and one lady just filed the top of my skin and not be careful when she filed and buffed my toes. The worst part was she didn't remove any dead skin or hang nails or anything like a real pedicure is supposed to be done and last but not least, she didn't even remove all over the gel polish and just painted over it. Don't come here, I came because of decent reviews but I was wrong. read more

I was very disappointed with my visit. I went in for pedi/mani. They lady began my pedi and was extremely rough with the body scrub on my calves which caused burn marks. She then was scrubbing my feet and due to her force some skin tore off. She left towards the back and began eating. I was out there alone for at least 10 minutes before another lady came out. This was my first experience with VIP and it certainly will not be my last. I live about 3 minutes from the salon and it is on my way to work so it is very convenient for me. It is a very inviting atmosphere. They were having an issue with the heating when I arrived so when I walked in they were all huddled around a large space-heater but they all jumped up to greet me. They apologized profusely about the issue but it didn't bother me because I had on several layers for work. I felt bad for them though because it was only about 7 degrees outside. Anyhow, I asked for a no-chip, my first ever, and they sat me down right away. Vivi was my nail-tech and she was amazing. My nails were in horrible shape because my job is hell on them and she spent about 30 minutes just buffing, filing, shaping, and digging out the crap underneath them. By the time she started painting them they looked 100 times better. She did an immaculate job painting them as well and they have really never looked better. I generally paint my own nails because I can do a pretty good job on them but I'm thinking I'll probably go see them once a month or so to keep them in good shape.
