My experience was probably different as I was flying business class ("Upper Class", as Virgin calls it), but I see where the extra cost comes from after having experienced it. I didn't do the chauffeured ride to the airport, though I'm sure it is nice. The special check-in/security lines make checking in and going through security a much less painful experience. I don't recall the flight being delayed or late, unlike other airlines that are notorious for always leaving late *cough* United *cough* The Virgin lounge in Heathrow is just gorgeous. Free food, free drinks, spa, sauna, salon...I could go on. (Though for the amount of money you are paying for an upper class ticket, it is easy to see why you get all this pampering!) Let's just say I had no qualms arriving at the airport early, as I was more than happy to kill time in the lounge. If you are flying TO London, Virgin also has a lounge you can use after you land and get through customs. The free showers and breakfast are much appreciated after a transatlantic flight, particularly if you've flown overnight to get to London. The Upper Class cabin is really nice. Not quite what I was expecting, but still very comfortable. As no airline is perfect, there are a couple things I didn't like: there was no USB outlet I could charge my phone or iPod in, and I felt the flight to London got a bit warm at times (though I'm a person who gets hot easily, so maybe it was just me). Also, someone decided to bring their baby with them into Upper Class on the flight to London. Seriously? I realize this might sound snobbish, but if I purchase a ticket this expensive, please don't bring your crying kid with you to ruin the experience! The seats are quite comfortable, and the diagonal layout of the Upper Class seats was interesting (as opposed to front-facing seats, which most airlines have), but they work - this way, no one will recline their seat into your leg space. The free drinks they offer you before takeoff and throughout the flight are always appreciated as well. I'd fly with Virgin Atlantic again. read more

As an American in London, I've taken transatlantic flights on four of the major carriers (Virgin, British Airways, American, and Air Canada) over the past year, on trips home to DC. I hadn't taken Virgin in about 10 years or so, and was sad to see that the inflight experience in coach has gone downhill from the very cool and innovative service that I had remembered. But I guess this is to be expected in the age of airlines cutting costs wherever they can. Let's start with the bad. The cabin itself appeared outdated, with the seats looking old and quite worn. Perhaps part of the problem is that I had taken Virgin America flights more recently, and their sleek lighting and leather seats were fresh in my mind. As for the meals, they weren't really anything memorable, and they didn't have my first choice of entree for either lunch on the outbound flight, or dinner on the return journey. And the "breakfast" served before landing at LHR was perhaps the worst airline meals I've ever had to endure--and I've taken many a flight in my day! A hard mini bagel served with half-frozen cream cheese and frozen OJ... yuck! If it's going to be obvious that you're serving something that's been frozen, you may as well just give us a popsicle.... But I give credit where credit is due, and overall I think I would choose Virgin again for a flight home to the States. (I realize that's probably not saying much, considering the competition...) The overall experience is still more fun and modern than the others. It's nice that they still pass out paper menus listing the meal options. And they have started pouring a pretty tasty signature fruity cocktail, though it's only available before the meal service on flights of a certain length. In terms of the in-flight entertainment, Virgin has won multiple well-deserved awards, as they have a huge selection of films, TV shows, and music to choose from. The service is generally friendly, and Virgin probably has some of the best looking cabin crew in the industry--the female flight attendants look like runway models, if that counts for anything :) So long story short--Richard Branson, your airline is good but not great as it used to be. I just woke up from a full day with 14 hours of international plane travel, 1 transfer in London, 2 1/2 hours in the US customs, and a painfully long cab ride from JFK back to my apartment after midnight. Do you know what I remember most? Virgin Atlantic, and fondly. The movies. The seats with extended leg room. Actually being able to sleep during a flight. Little cups of desserts named Gu that are delightful. Flight Attendants that aren't as fleshy as they are hideous in character. Worst airline experience in my life, terrible customer service (they even hung up on me while I was talking to them). If you have connected flights, or you are constraint by time and need to leave around the time you are booking the flight, skip. If you want to be treated like a person and not like a bag of trash, skip as well. Booked a round trip flight from SFO to LHR. The return flight was supposed to leave from LHR at 3:20 pm. I get an email from Virgin saying that they are moving my flight 3 hours, to 12:20 pm instead. It is impossible for me to be at the airport at that time, so I call them to cancel the flight since they changed the time so much. They tell me that they don't need to take any responsibility if they change flights for less than 5 hours. Their options are to cancel the flight but I get no refund (apart from some taxes) and that they move my flight to the next time but I need to cover the fare difference (which is $300). read more

I would have never thought giving Virgin such a low rating, but I am afraid I am really disappointed. I work as a travel agent and I was always telling my clients how cool Virgin is... until last week. What started as a nice invitation from them to experience flying to New York turned out to be a penitence. The flight back was cold as the North Pole, it did not matter how many times and people complained about it. The stewardesses were more worried about gossiping than listening to our petitions. I was wearing my jacket and TWO blankets and my throat started to hurt. My flu jab taken earlier last year meant I dit not get a cold, but it did not matter to feel unwell from Monday to Saturday. My colleagues, seated in other parts of the aircraft agreed. The food, how to talk about that small portions? Also, they refused to let us seat in the sides of the plane unless we paid for it. The plane was not even half full. Not to mention their representative, who was supposed to give us free upgradings, flew business and completely forgot about us. Pros: Nice customer service and decent in-flight meal. Clean and comfortable seat. Cons: Lack of power outlet, USB port, and wifi. Poor quality of in flight entertainment system (A340-600) This was my first Virgin experience and if I were on vacation I would have been fully satisfied. However I was on business travel and lack of basic necessity which can be easily found in majority of US carriers such as wifi or power outlet were disappointing. Also note my flight had almost 4hr delay at JFK, but ground crew and flight crew kept us updated and it showed high quality of employee training. read more

Definitely the best flight experience I've ever had, but if you're flying business class, I'd expect nothing less. The whole thing is surreal. They send a white gloved driver to pick you up, you speed through special security lines, in Heathrow a woman opens the limo door when you arrive at the terminal and hands you your tickets... I kid you not. The meals were great, the lounges/clubhouses were great (they had the best food I ate on my whole London trip). It's definitely a good way to fly. I fly for work a decent amount to London, and VA is the only airline I will travel. For full disclosure, I always fly in upper class since it is a work trip. Front to back, they really do make it a great experience. If you are flying upper class, they send a car to pick you up and take you to a private entrance, so that means no line to check in, no line for security, access to the lounge, and you are the first to board. Onboard, the "suites" are nice... I will say that United (Continental) has a better business class suite, but Virgin ones are good. They are showing their age a bit in terms of the seats and the screens. Movie selections are usually pretty good... 60 or so to choose from. The food in upperclass is really good, especially considering it is airline food. I really can say I have enjoyed 90% of the meals I've had onboard. They also always have 3 red and white wines to choose from, and are not shy with the pours. VA really stands out when it comes to their onboard service... they are constantly coming around to make sure you are well fed and your glass is never empty. On a seperate note... I am a VA gold member, and 2 years ago, VA sent me a custom Jack Spade bag as a thank you for my patronage. I really though that was a really, really nice touch, and no other airline gives perks worth that much to their customers. read more

Unlike several other reviewers, I have nothing but good things to say about my Virgin Atlantic experience. I booked a round-trip from JFK to LHR in Premium Economy. I received nothing but excellent service from all VA personnel whom I dealt with, from gate agents, to flight attendants. The Premium Economy experience itself was superior to the First Class experiences I've had with US domestic carriers - the only difference was slightly less seat pitch, however the in-flight meals and entertainment more than made up for this in my opinion. read more

I'm not sure what I like more the excellent customers service, the in flight entertainment or the wonderful staff but basically if they had more routes I would fly with Virgin America and Atlantic exclusively. My only complaint is that the 5 hour route between DC and San Francisco doesn't have a single snack! Just refreshments, but alas they can't be perfect how would the other terrible airlines compete otherwise. I've never had a bad experience with virgin and I fly weekly. They do tend to be a little pricier than other airlines, but honestly I'm willing to pay a bit more for the peace of mind. I highly recommend this airline to anyone traveling domestically or abroad. I can promise you that once you fly with them it will be hard to fly with anyone else. read more

Well our flights to and from LAX from London Heathrow wasnt the best! We did get extra legroom seats in row 51 H&K in economy going out, which was great for the extra legroom but think again if you want to be sat next to the bulkhead seats with a screaming baby for 11 hours, The service was below normal from what we have experienced with Virgin Atlantic before,We only received the meal with a drink,duty free then they decided to turn our flight into a night flight even though our flight was a 15:45pm-19:15pm flight going out, so they asked everyone to close there window blinds and then they turned the lights out for most of the flight, I opened my window blind to see if i could see land and got a tap from the man with the screaming baby to close my blind as it would wake his baby up, i was going to sat something back but never did, We never saw another member of crew for at least 3 hours apart from the odd one coming up and down the stairs to the sleeping quaters, so clearly they was more interested in there beauty sleep than the passengers! We recieved our evening meal around 90 minutes before the plane landed, The views on the right hand side if facing towards the cockpit landing into Los Angeles are Incredible. Immigration at LAX was quick and only took around 40 minutes to clear and get the bags and get the shuttle to the car rental centre A couple of days before our flight out from the UK,Virgin Atlantic did call and ask to see if we would like an upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy for £130 each which we took, so this is our review on the flight home from LAX to London Heathrow We got to the terminal 2 on time at LAX which is alot smaller than i thought with a few check in desks and a escalator to the upstairs where secuirty is then a few shops then the gates at the end. We boarded the 747-400 plane our seats was on row 30 next to the gallery but no one next to us which we liked, we loved the new premium economy seats with the dark purple leather and more spacious seat though the legroom isnt that great with the box infront of the seat infront though i am 6,4 and the legroom isnt that bad and alot better than economy! We was served a glass of sparkling wine before take off and the captain said the flight would be 9 hours and 31 minutes which was great Though again the service wasnt that good! We wasnt served anything else until our meal came with a choice of a small bottle of red or white, they then took the meal away and served duty free and then they asked for everyone to pull down there window blinds and then they turned the lights down and then the people infront reclined there seat fully so the space what we did have becomes less as does the legroom but still bareable, though we didnt see another member of crew for a few hours until they served the breakfast which was edible, i thought with Premium Economy the service would be premium but it wasnt and probably worse than economy, after serving breakfast most of the crew was all making sure they looked beautiful in the little mirror they had in the gallery and not once was we asked if we wanted anything, even though we was sat right by the gallery! When we was leaving the aircraft we ussualy get the goodbye and a thankyou but we got nothing and neither did anyone else, they was just stood around the upperclass bar talking with each other without a care for the passengers! I think Virgin Atlantic service is no more and we wont be traveling with them to California again! read more

I never flew with Virgin Airlines but I always heard good reviews from those who did and I must say my overall experience was a positive one and would consider flying with this airline again. The crew was very genuine, upbeat and attentive. It felt as though we were continuously being offered a drink, snack or another meal! The only suggestion I have is in regards to the media options they offer on board. The media equipment seemed to be more outdated than what was offered on the Delta flight and there were far less movie and music selections. read more

I generally really like Virgin but please stop working with Flybe airline for connecting flights. Streamline your process for sports equipment, I had to contact Flybe separately to arrange for my golf clubs. The process was a total shit show. On returning they messed up adding my clubs to the return flight, so I nearly missed my connecting Virgin flight because they wouldn't let me on the plane. Then my clubs didn't even make it onto my Virgin flight going home even though I saw them unloading them on the tarmac at Heathrow. In order to get them I had to stay up to 3am the next day as that was the only delivery time. read more

My wife and I are frequent fliers and we used Virgin Atlantic For the first time on our trip to London. I have to say I doubt if I will ever use a US carrier to Europe again. Everything about the Virgin Atlantic experience was exceptional. The employees actually enjoy the work they were doing and were very helpful and kind. Completely unlike any people working on a US airline. It is our experience that stewardesses and airline employees working for domestic airlines show a poor attitude and act like they are doing you a favor for even talking to you. We sat in economy and were fed, entertained and cared for the entire journey. We will definitely use this company again. read more

It was very hard for me to check in at the same time look after my son and luggage. They helped me check in and at the same time took care of my luggage. I was very happy with their service. My husband and I flew Virgin Atlantic in March 2012 when moving out to the US for a 2.5 year period. I had been really excited about flying with such a prestigious airline. I should not have been. Having flown to Tokyo in 2005 with them on a new Airbus, I was most impressed. This time we had a Boeing aircraft and it was tired-looking. During the safety presentation, one of the stewardesses, who clearly wanted to be an actress, decided to make the demonstration a bit camp. Whilst it was amusing, this is safety we're talking about, and should've been taken much more seriously. During the flight, I saw the same stewardess walking through the cabin with her dressing gown, wash bag and her hair all messy and unkempt, like she was going to prepare herself for landing. I appreciate that the staff need to look their best, but it's not something passengers need to know about. Also, when they staff were clearing away from dinner, one of them dropped a tray on the floor directly behind my seat. What followed was complete immaturity and unprofessionalism. Two female staff were laughing about it, teasing the other that she should clear it up. One of them even squealed. I mean, really? Finally, to add insult to injury, I have contacted Virgin twice about this and received nothing in return. With regards to their Flying Club, I am a member. I bought some miles as I thought we would make Virgin our airline of choice. I have now found out that I can transfer air miles but at a cost of something like £25 per 1000 miles. Ridiculous! I have looked on the website and clicked the link to spending miles on hotels but the link doesn't work, so I can't do anything about that. Not happy. read more

PREMIUM ECONOMY SFO-LHR Love this airline. Very pleased with the service. We live in the East Bay so I was considering BA out of OAK. But the reviews were either hit or miss. Glad we chose Virgin. Premium Economy gets you separate check in (under 10 minutes both directions) separate boarding and supposedly you checked luggage comes up first. The cabin is separate from Coach. There is a "snack bar" you can raid during the flight. The meals were excellent! The in-flight service as well. On the outbound (SFO-LHR) they pulled an aircraft swap from the 787 to the older Airbus. My only complaint is that there was no notification and only because I am OCD and check everything constatnly were my wife and I assured of new seat assignments together. And of course the older aircraft had an entertainment system that was outdated. The return (LHR-SFO) had the 787 Dreamliner and it is sweet. The entertainment system rocks. The food was excellent! We flew from Atlanta to London on Virgin Atlantic in early August. Pros: 1) We chose exit row seating (paid extra) and had massive amounts of legroom at the front of one of the economy sections. We did have to pay extra for this privilege. 2) The flight attendant (unfortunately did not catch her name) was very friendly and chatty. 3) The on-demand entertainment system was decent. Cons: 1) The food was awful. I don't have gourmet expectations on flights, but this was truly horrible. At dinner, they somehow managed to make rice inedible. Breakfast was even worse, with dry and crumbly yogurt! Yech. 2) The seat was uncomfortable. Again, I don't expect to feel like I'm sitting on a cloud in economy class, but I think Virgin skimped on padding the seats. This made the last few hours of the flight a rather uncomfortable experience. Overall, I think Virgin is overhyped. Yes, they have cool ambient lighting on their planes, but the only thing that saved this flight from being a poor experience was the good service from the flight attendants. read more

I appreciate the convenient direct routes between LA and LHR. Very courteous staff clean comfortable cabins. However I've never been able to gel with the cabin design where I am always facing away from the windows. On time performance has been spotty lately, this has caused me a fair amount of inconvenience on several occasions. Before the introduction of the new 787 on my route late last year, the age on the aircraft was apparent with creaky tray tables, patchy entertainment system and a seats which wouldn't go all the way flat on some occasions. Anyway, the convenience of this route and niceness of the staff partially makes up for this. read more

This was our first flight on Virgin Atlantic. We got the seats with extra legroom, which turned out to be a great choice. Overall the service from the hosts was fair, one was exceptional. The in-flight entertainment was great. They limited our ability to drinks. My biggest concern was the meals available. We had been given a menu that listed 3 choices, 2 of which seemed very nice. When they came to serve us our meal, they said only one option was available. Considering that the flight was about 60% full, that was a surprise. We could not select that option as it was pulled pork, and we do not eat pork. No religious reasons, just don't like the smell or how it tastes. They did rustle up a bland chicken and mashed potatoes and a vegan curry. This is not what I expected from Virgin. We have a return trip and I will provide my final verdict at that time. read more

If it wasn't for the unpleasant check in lady at the counter who tried to trick us into volunteering to give up our seats by vaguely asking if we wanted to "volunteer" with no explanation until I asked a second time they would get a 5. On flight the air crew was nothing short of amazing. Polite and prompt with everything. We had a flight from nyc to London. We were greeted to pillow, blanket and water waiting at our seats. Drinks were offered three times throughout flight. Breakfast was yogurt, fruit and granola which was great. Lunch was amazing as well with complimentary wine and sweets after. My tv remote did not work and they quickly provided me with a tablet that had almost all the movies and shows offered on the tv. Definitely recommend!! I am writing about Virgin Atlantic flight # VS 301 on April 29, 2015 Delhi to London. I love Virgin Atlantic and its services and have flown it numerous times round trip NY to Delhi round trip as an Upper Class passenger. But after the despicable treatment I and several other passengers received from your ground crew in Delhi it makes me think I should not fly with you again. These personnel not only did NOT help me as a Upper Class and DISABLED passenger, but were extremely rude. What happened is shocking given your reputation and also was so unnecessary. I work for a humanitarian organization in Nepal and I travel annually roudntrip from NYC on Virgin to Delhi. I travel Jet Air Katmandu/Delhi on arrival and never before had any problem. Because of the devastation caused by the Nepal earthquake, the Jet Air flight on April 29 from Katmandu to Delhi was understandably delayed. Virgin was informed of this in advance. Eight passengers were traveling the same route. We arrived at Delhi and rushed to the Virgin gate at 1PM. The London flight was delayed by technical problems and BOARDING HAD NOT BEGUN. The Virgin ground crew, under the cruel and illogical control of Ms. Manju the manager, would not allow us to check in or even enter the gate area!!! My wheelchair by that time had disappeared and I was left standing outside the gate with no food, water, place to sit, with no money, no phone or wifi, and I was not allowed to join those already checked in. Is this the way Virgin treats first class passengers, especially those needing assistance? Ms. Manju even refused to let me go to the lounge to rest. At 3 PM was flight was officially canceled and all the people at the gate were given hotels. But not us. It was an extraordinary circumstance. We had all have gone through a major earthquake. What was Ms. Manju's logic? Even when the flight was cancelled she continued to refuse to honor our boarding passes and check us in so that we would at least have an ongoing flight. WHY? Could it be that Virgin did not want to pay the hotel bill? Finally we found some help and understanding at the Airport Information Desk where that representative (not part of Virgin) tried to sort it out with the only remaining ground crew member, Mr. Rahoul, who tried his best. At 7PM (6 hours after we arrived) he was finally able to arrange new boarding cards for us for the next day and a hotel. But the difficulties did not stop there because then security would not let us pass because Virgin refused to issue each of us a letter of permission. We got stuck again with Indian police. Thus Virgin failed again in their duty to their passengers, resulting in another round of delays. When we finally made it to the airport hotel, there was no record of a reservation for us! Once again, we had to wait until someone was found from Virgin so that we could enter the hotel. Confusion reigned again the next day as no clear directive was given on how we would identify our bags. The management of Virgin at the Delhi Airport is inefficient and not passenger-friendly, in total contradiction to Virgin's customer service agreement and advertisements. No apologies or even a sense of understanding from Virgin personnel, only confusion at each step and complete disrespect. Is this the way Virgin treats its clients, especially long time Upper Class frequent fliers? Is it worth it to fly with you? As a first class passenger with a disability, I was given no help or assistance and treated not only rudely, but in a manner dangerous to my health. Because of this traumatic experience I am requesting at least full compensation for this trip for the stress and difficulties I encountered through this episode that also affected my health. It is the least Virgin can do to maintain its reputation and status as a world-class airline. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and I look forward to your speedy response. I am a bit sad to write this review since I had such high expectations for Virgin Atlantic but I must give 2 stars (well maybe 2.5 but I have to round down for reasons stated below). I flew "upper class"........so listen up before you spend the big bucks on this product. The good: Virgin's Heathrow club house is very good. The meat and cheese stand was excellent, where a delicious tray is prepared right before your very eyes. The drink selection is great, my favorite cocktail is their signature Virgin Redhead. The free 10 minute scalp message was divine (ask for Holly). I had a wonderful time playing a few games of pool. Yes, the club house was crowded but the space is huge and there's something for everyone here. I will also say that the flight attendants were very good and attentive so no complaints there! The VERY disappointing :( Upper class accommodations. It was inferior to any other business class that I have flown. I did not like the seats on the 747. I was travelling with a companion and it is impossible on the Virgin 747 to face one another. The seat was inadequate. No massage function (does Richard Branson know about this because I may need to let him know)! It folds down and the pillow-covers are shoved behind the seat back while it is in an upright position. Inconvenient to say the least. The food was mediocre. Portions were small. My beef was very overcooked. I tried all the white wines and only one was good (for example, the Pinot Gris so was disgustingly buttery that I arose out of my inadequate seat to dump it in the restroom sink). Now the other wines were drinkable but really nothing to write home about. Do I need to tell you to have a wine sommelier review your wine list and to get feedback so you you can keep your really wealthy upper class patrons content? Why would you pollute my really refined palate with this very poorly flavored and slightly above room temp bath water? Our flight was delayed one and a half hours and the flight crew gave minimal explanation. Finally, the amenity kit was very very sad, in a cheap canvas bag with eyeshades, ear plugs, a few tissues, and an inexpensive pen (no high end products like Molton Brown and no cologne/perfume). Are you even aware of what other airlines have in their amenity kits (you would be jealous and want to fly their airline)?!?!?! I give it to Virgin, they have a great marketing team to fill all their seats with such an inferior product. In fact, please feel free to respond to this review as I am a yelp elite and fly business class or higher constantly so I know you airliners may want my business so just come correct and let's open a dialogue! Do I have to call your customer service line or will you acknowledge your shortcomings? The product in no way measures up to the hype. I would never, never pay for a ticket in Upper Class. The most Egotistical and inhuman airlines that has ever existed. In short my story goes as such. I booked a roundtrip flight from LAX to NCE. Being summoned to jury duty, I missed the first leg of my flight, paying for a later flight to NCE. The second leg, or my return flight, I was only able to make it from NCE to LHR. At LHR, there was an arrogant middle aged, orange haired, checkin lady with sticky mascara that claimed my flight was canceled. This woman then gave me an incentive to either buy a last minuet, over priced flight to LAX, or leave the airport. I told her that my card was stolen in France, so I had no money, and if she could not help me, I would be in a foreign country with no money at all, homeless. She refused to help in any manner at all, never once lifting her head from a computer. I was left to starve in London for three days while my bank overnighted me a card. From this trip, Virgin Atlantic taught me to not only dislike their airlines, but the United Kingdom in general. When I did receive my card, I used it to buy a ticket from United Airlines. Virgin Atlantic defrauded me of a round trip plane ticket, $1600.00, making me buy a last minute airfare for my return home, $1900.00. The money is not what leaves me gritting my teeth when remembering the experience, its the aspects of an airline security trusted with my money only to slap the hand that fed it and leave me betrayed and homeless in a foreign country that does. read more

The bag drop queue is atrocious. Only one agent for every two kiosks and I've been standing in line for about 45 minutes. Why more agents don't come down to help (I've seen them trolling around on the stairs behind the kiosks) is beyond me. Not keen! Fabulous! Now they tell me I have to go through Delta security check first and I was two places away from the desk. 45 minutes and no one bothered to tell me?!? Zero stars if I could. read more

They cancelled returning flight for my mother and when I was trying to figure out why that happened they said I am a third party therefore they would not talk to me. I must say I was unpleasantly disappointed with the overall Virgin experience. I am a frequent flyer with another airline and I was originally excited about Virgin joining the program and happy for the direct flights from LAX to LHR. That excitement is way over. I flew in upper class, so I can't imagine how bad lower class would be. Probably my biggest issue was the lack of food they provided. The dinner was just OK, but the breakfast was a complete joke. I got a ham bun and it was exactly that. A little bun with a sliver of ham that was as thin as a piece of paper and nothing else. I was starving most of the way. I asked for something to eat mid flight and I was offered lolly pops and taffy. Which would have been great if I was 5 years old. Then I was offered falafel(no thanks) and finally a slider. When the customer next to me asked for food they offered him chicken satay, sliders, etc. When they took my jacket they claimed then needed by boarding pass (no tickets with seat numbers on the hangar?) which had my bag check claim attached. When we landed back in LA they could not find my jacket. Their lounge was totally lame. I think they have maybe 1 power outlet for 12 guests. I guess they are not familiar with smart phones and tablets. Never mind the fact they had one person checking people in to the lounge on a Sunday morning. They claimed they had table service. That only took about 20 minutes. When I went to the counter to try and get a cup of coffee they told me I needed to get a waiter. Lame! Their upper class security line took twice as long as the lower class line. Again Lame. Also on the sleeper bed near the foot rest they have a little seat belt that makes absolutely no sense. You can't buckle anything into it and it sits right where your feet go, so you get to rest your foot on a metal buckle...that was comfortable...NOT. read more

After flying to BCN last year via US Airways, Virgin can do no wrong. I am definitely a fan of airlines that are not based here in US. Only US based airlines that I enjoy is Southwest. They are usually accommodating to customers. Enough about them, this review is about Virgin. Super friendly people at the counters when you check in your baggage. Yay for 1 free baggage check in. The inflight service is pretty good too. Yay for the people at the gate when you check in a second time prior to boarding. They were nice also. And most importantly, YAY for the flight attendants. They were professional and pretty nice. No one got snippy with me for giving them trash to throw away even when I did it at the wrong times. Decent food, not great, but no one has great food unless you're first class I think. I would definitely fly Virgin airlines again if I have a chance. read more

I flew LAX - Heathrow, round trip, in mid-November 2014 on Virgin Atlantic. This was my first experience with VA and, after flying with United for years, I was hoping for a pleasant change. The outbound flight was sorely disappointing. The first sign of things to come was that VA unceremoniously reassigned my seat without notification. I had chosen seat 32C months ahead, only to find out at online check-in that my seat had been changed to 32D. On the plane, I saw that another person had both seats 32C (isle seat) and 32B (a window seat) . VA flights take off from terminal 2 in LAX. Forgive me for saying so, but that terminal is ghetto -- it is crowded & dingy, and NOT connected to the swanky Tom Bradley Terminal (TBT) at all. There are no restaurants in that terminal and there are only limited restroom facilities. (To get to TBT for some decent eateries, you will either walk a long way or take a shuttle; and you have to go through security check.) I am short and so as I approached my seat I said to a flight attendant, who was standing nearby, that I will need help to hoist my carry-on bag overhead. To my astonishment, she icily said "Then you should not have brought it." Then, for some reason, the plane was not air-conditioned until takeoff -- it was steamy hot in the cabin for almost 30 minutes and frankly I was surprised that no one fainted from the heat. In the lowly coach class, the bathrooms were untidy and the food was no better if not worse than that served on United. The entertainment center is outdated and the program selection severely limited. The return flight , including sanitation condition, was better. But be aware that there is NO bathroom at the departing gate in Heathrow Terminal 3 once you go past a certain point on your long walk to the departing gate -- there is a sign that says "no toilets beyond this point"; take heed of that! And if you want to avoid screaming babies, stay far away from row 31 -- that's where baby bassinets are mounted inflight. It is impossible to contact VA's customer assistance stateside; the phone connection is poor and tough to get through. And now I see that VA has just started to charge extra if you want to choose your own seat. Aarrgh! All in all, I can't say that I was impressed with VA read more

Craig Kreeger should be ashamed of himself for running such an awful airline. I took the flight from Heathrow to San Francisco. It was horrific. Old plane, non-functioning screen, dirty seats, dirty seat pockets from prior passengers, awful food, terrible incompetent service, Under staffed cabin. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again will I go anywhere near this awful airline. We flew round trip from Boston to Heathrow and were thrilled with the aircraft and the service we had on both of our flights. Staff was always busy helping customers and we were fed snacks left and right. One of the trips was a red-eye so we were hoping to get some sleep, but the only reason we couldn't give a fifth star is because we were so cold (even with the lovely pillows, socks and blankets that they handed out) that we couldn't sleep a wink and that made our first day in London pretty difficult. Other than the chilly flight, we've never been better cared for on a flight! We wish all airlines were this nice and will definitely fly them again. read more

First of all, Virgin Atlantic states that a customer can check-in online 24 hours before the flight. My flight was on Wednesday 16th August 2017 at 22.30. I therefore made sure I was prepared to check in Tuesday 15th August at 22.30 in order to make sure I get the seats I wanted. At 22.30 on the dot, I managed to check in online successfully but when it came to both me and my partner's seats, they were allocated to us on the opposite side of the plane! I did not expect this as I booked 2 tickets together in one transaction with yourself. Should the seats not be together? Regardless of where on the plane, they should be next to each other, especially as we booked 2 tickets together. This was not what I wanted as my partner is very un-easy when flying and I wanted to make sure I was seated next to her at all times. All other seats were taken already at 22.30! The only seats available together were the 'Extra Leg Room Seats'. As I needed to be next to my partner for comfort reasons, I had no other option but to book them seats. They both cost me an extra £45 each! I was not prepared for this extra cost, especially as I had already paid full price for a ticket on your aircraft. Secondly, when on the plane going to my destination, the Air Conditioning was on full blast. I had asked the cabin crew three times to turn the AC down and to provide me with another blanket. This was promised but not carried out. Other people sitting next to us were also complaining about how cold it was. On this same flight, when dinner was provided, there were 3 options, one beef, one chicken and one vegetable. My partner and I are both vegetarian and when we asked for the vegetarian option, the air hostess replied with 'sorry but we have run out of vegetarian'! The only alternative they could offer us was pasta with Shrimp Sauce! We do not eat fish hence we did not go with the option provided. This was not a good flight for us especially as it was a night flight; we both were hungry and freezing cold. The second flight with Virgin Atlantic from Dubai to London Heathrow was very much the same. We managed to change our seats so we could sit together whilst checking in the day before. There were only 2 seats left on the plane seated together which were at the back of the plane. However, what really let the airline down and more so; my trust in Virgin Atlantic was again, the food. Drinks were provided to us, no issues with that, but when the cabin crew served afternoon tea, I was surprised once again for them to tell both me and my partner that they had ran out of the vegetarian option. More than this, we did not receive a bag or crisps and a KitKat bar which was clearly stated on the menu given to us. We were not even told that this will not be given to us; the cabin crew just shrugged us off. I feel that just because we were sitting at the back of the aircraft, is that the reason that we were not given the option we required? Is that the reason why food was in shortage? If that is the case then that is very much out of order. Truthfully my partner and I are extremely surprised and disappointed with Virgin Atlantic because we really did not expect this kind of service with you guys. Paying extra to sit together, freezing cold plane, no food left, and not even being told that we will not be receiving what should be 'complimentary'. All my family and friends have told me that Virgin Atlantic is a very reputable company and I will have no issues flying with them. This was not the case at all and truthfully I have never been so dissatisfied with an airline in general. I have got in touch with customer relations and they have not even had the curtesy to reply back or anything! I never expected this service from Virgin! Very disappointed. read more

It was my first flight with Virgin Atlantic. My flight from London to JFK was 3 hours late. It was supposed to be on time when I arrived to the airport and then it was listed as 40 minutes late, another 1 hour late, ...There was no issue with weather in London and JFK. I noticed Virgin Atlantic had other delays: flight to Hong Kong, other flights to JFK. Other airlines were on time. When the gate was finally announced, 350 people rushed to the boarding area. It was a long line. During the flight, movies were very good, flight attendants nice, and plenty of food. read more
