I've never felt that way when walking out of a dentist office. I was very pleased and left happy from my first visit with Dr. Kim. I found him to be very soft spoken, gentle and kind and most importantly, I feel he was honest and not pushing unnecessary things. His assistant was very sweet as well. Glad I finally found a nice dentist.

Feel free to stop here, unless you want to read my lengthy review with a side order of TMI starts here: I assume most people dread going to the dentist. Probably because they have to either lie "of course I have been flossing!" or tell the truth "does it look like it to you?". In any case, I have been going here for my last several dental appointments. The office is very well run! I have never had to sit and wait past the time I had scheduled; it's refreshing. The other thing I like is the tools they use, it might be the norm (before finding this place I was not going in every 6 months; the longest I went was 15 years! It's okay, still rocking all my teeth, no cavities; go me!). I think before coming here it had been 3 years. Anyhow, they use a water jet to get most of the plaque, and only take out the metal tools for a final go through and to check your gums. I had the same dentist my first few visits, my last one was with a different dentist. Both were really great, they take the time to go over everything, and answer any questions I have. In closing, I also feel that they are honest. I have had experiences where the dentist says that there is a spot on the x-ray that they recommend an additional appointment to preemptively address the possibility. It's like the upsell of protection they ask you to add at Best Buy or Target. Only way more costly!

My first experience at another practice left a bad taste in my mouth. Before I even had a chance to settle in, they were recommending Invisalign, gum grafting, and a deep cleaning. It felt like every recommendation came with a price tag attached, and it just didn't sit right with me. Thankfully, I found Dr. Mina. The office is easy to get to, has plenty of parking, and is bright, modern, and spotless. I also liked that patients have their own treatment rooms instead of everything feeling crowded. I also noticed that the office is very accessible. There's a ramp leading to the front entrance, and the inside has a very open layout that would make it easy for anyone using a wheelchair or walker to move around comfortably. From the moment I walked in, everyone was welcoming. My dental assistant was wonderful and explained each step before doing anything. Dr. Mina was patient, thorough, and never rushed. He took time to review everything, completed a detailed gum health exam, and explained what he was seeing without making me feel pressured into unnecessary procedures. They also use a lot of modern technology and took detailed photos of my teeth, which I appreciated. As someone who usually dreads dental x-rays because they're uncomfortable, I was shocked at how easy they were. The cleaning was just as comfortable. It's rare to leave a dentist appointment thinking, "That was actually a great experience," but that's exactly how I felt. If you're searching for a new dentist in the Ashburn area, I'd absolutely recommend Dr. Mina and his team.

Saturday hours vanished, weekday hours are difficult for anyone with a full‑time job, and the new text‑based communication feels dismissive rather than supportive. Asking about weekend availability shouldn't trigger messages suggesting they "update my records" if I'm no longer interested in being a patient. This practice has strong clinical talent, but the customer service side needs immediate attention. Other reviews on YELP in the last couple of years seem to mirror my disappointment. ALSO, they may wish to remove the snarky, outdated and frankly cringe‑y "...we cater to cowards..." wording in their brochures and on their waiting room tables. It's just unnecessary. No one enjoys going to the dentist, it's a necessary experience. Here's a few examples to consider: "For anyone who prefers kindness over stress." "Perfect for patients who like their dentistry gentle, not scary." "We take the fear out of dental care -- no judgment, just comfort."

My husband and two daughters had been…read moreto this practice and things were mediocre ... until their appointment in April and my first appointment with them in June. The new dentists we saw were no longer in-network and we were charged out-of-network costs. Aetna was amazing and did a one-time exception to change those visits to in-network. We had already paid our bill in full, so when First Impressions Dental received the check from Aetna you would think they would reimburse me the amount I had already paid. Nope! Not only did they not get the refund process started (I had to call twice), they claimed we still had a balance. This so-called balance was for "hospitality and in-office write-offs". One was from 2023. Interesting how this popped up out of nowhere two years later... hmm. They cashed the insurance check and instead of paying us back what insurance says we were owed, they're taking back all hospitality and write-offs and returning SOME of the insurance check. Basically being vindictive and taking money from an insurance check to pay themselves back. I've filed an official complaint with Aetna and will update this review once the complaint process with insurance is completed.

Having tried a different local practice we quickly realized they lacked the tools and care to be trusted so we looked again, and this time thankfully we landed on this wonderful facility. Dr. Gary Ashton, Denise, and Nick turned out to be outstanding professionally and personally. Having experienced several routine sessions as well as some necessary dental work we are again very confident we have a trustworthy team caring for us! In addition to that confidence the facility is beautiful, well maintained, and as unlikely as it would seem - it is actually a pleasure to come for a routine dental check! We only regret not discovering them a long time ago, but certainly better late than never.

I went to Dr. Ashton as a 4th opinion for a tooth that had been mistreated by a few previous dentists, leaving me suffering with severe tooth pain for a few years, with a high risk of a root canal. Dr. Ashton used his 3D x-rays to show me exactly why that tooth was so vulnerable. He handled the tooth very conservatively, causing no pain, and also addressed every aspect of what I could do to minimize future dental issues. It's clear that Dr. Ashton keeps current on dental advances, from his 3D x-ray machine (I've only seen at universities like UCLA TMD department), to topical solutions for dry mouth. Why didn't any of the other many dentists or speech and language pathologists I've seen notice my severe dry mouth, which has contributed to my long-term tooth sensitivity, possibly my receded gums and swallowing difficulties too? (Dr. Ashton didn't make those claims but they seem to apply to me based on the improvement I feel already and some studies I've read since his opened my eyes too this issue.) I bet the severe dryness is part of why, if only one person at a dinner table has food stuck to their teeth, it's me. There is so much else that I can say in praise of Dr. Ashton. He is extremely caring and thorough, leaving no stone unturned in addressing my complex case. I don't think Dr. Ashton needs another raving review, but I felt compelled to share my experience.
