    Popcorn shrimp platter
    Lisa C.

Mediocre is best word to describe Virginia Street Cafe. Service was sufficient but not friendly or attentive. I'm not asking for chitchat or to be coddled but a smile or "thank you" would have been appreciated. The interior felt familiar - like every mom and pop restaurant in 1982. The salad bar is more like a burger fixings bar than a salad bar. I ordered the popcorn shrimp platter which I think may have been Sea-Pak. My companion ordered the (mostly) soft-shell crab sandwich. The occasional crunchiness is a clue it was harvested a little late. I'm giving Virginia Street Cafe three stars because the tea was good, the hush puppies and Cole slaw were really good, and our order was taken and delivered quickly and accurately.

Great hometown restaurant serving great food by a friendly staff. I would recommend you visit them when you are in the area!

Ok, it's really off season. I had the oyster po boy sandwich. Very plain, no spices. I'll have to try again sometime

Killer oysters... the real deal! Hey, Virginia Street Cafe may have even invented the fried oyster - who knows!

This restaurant was sort of unremarkable. They serve food and its not terrible. Typical small town diner.

Happened through town when the soft shell crabs were in season and had an awesome fried soft shell sandwich.

Server was very friendly but after bringing water initially, took over 10 minutes to take any orders at all. Also took a while to come to our table each time. Scallops were cooked absolutely perfectly! However, there was soooo much salt on them that it was overpowering and made the dish not good. The corn with it was great though. The red pepper crab soup was the worst on the table, they have a lot of work to do on this soup. Ceviche was flavorless and in whole pieces of shrimp, wish they were chopped up. Can't go wrong with oysters! The lemon coconut custard was not a custard, it was runny coconut yogurt with coconut flakes and fruit on top. If you want a yogurt parfait, order this! Chocolate cake was okay, nothing crazy. Would not come back to eat

The oysters were amazing, the slaw and cucumbers were fantastic, the sub roll, it all was so delicious, so juicy, fresh, a masterpiece. A great selection of unique beers. Our server was fun and funny and cheerful. The owner's playlist of 80's music was a fun surprise. The setting is beautiful with lots of outdoor seating. Can't wait to go back!
