A cute little coffee shop in the middle of DTLA? Why yes! Virtu Coffee is located in the heart of DTLA right near the LA convention center and surrounding hotels! The owner, James, is super nice and even has his dog chilling in the shop which is cute. They have your typical variety of coffee drinks along with some speciality drinks and pastries displayed on a counter to the right side when you walk in. I decided on ordering the matcha latte and James right away got to making it. It took only a few minutes before he handed it to me! It was delicious and full of matcha flavor. I added vanilla as an additional flavor to balance out with the matcha and it was a great combination. It hit the spot and what I needed to kickstart my morning! The interior is modern and clean and there's some seating by the window but it's mainly an order and go kind of coffee shop. This is a must-visit coffee shop located in DTLA. I drank the asap yam latter for the first time months ago and haven't had it since because I live far. I happen to be in the area for a convention and purchased another asap yam latte (this time iced) and it was just as good as the first time. THere is only one guy working and I believe he is the owner so the wait times can get kinda long but the taste makes up for the wait! I highly recommend this place. The place is definitely a vibe, lots of interesting things to look at on the walls while waiting for your coffee. I tried the nutty professor latte and I don't know how it works, but it works! Super delicious and I love how oat milk is just the default milk. I was eyeing this place for months since I work down the street, so glad I finally had the chance to stop by. Will definitely come back every so often to try the other lattes to treat myself! Service was quick, though I will say, don't expect overly enthusiastic service like you see in (most?) coffee shops. I live in the neighborhood so I like trying out all of the coffee shops in the area. I like the unique and creative menu at this cafe. The owner/barista was a bit short with me the first few times but I thought it was a one off situation... I went for the 4th or 5th time recently and he was very rude. I asked for suggestions on the menu -- what his favorite drinks were or what the most popular ones were, and he was extremely sarcastic and rude. One of my new favorite coffee places. Found this place randomly as strolling through DTLA. Their coffee/drinks were amazing! Got a few amongst a couple of us and we tried each others' drinks. Food - 4/5 Ordered the "G" spot latte. Pretty solid coffee. I would say it's a step up from the average caramel latte, but nothing super special. I do like it default came with oat milk and I didn't need to sub for it in. Service - 4/5 I think that the person who took my order was the owner. He was a friendly dude. Didn't say much when I walked in, but after I started to comment about all the NYC and NY Yankees stuff around the shop he seemed to be a bit more chatty. Ambience - 4/5 Super tiny spot that was hard to find. It was technically on the Flower side of 12th street despite the actual address listed on yelp. It's right next to the CVS. Most places were closed today for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We saw that Virtu coffee was open and I live close by, but never been. I'm really glad we stopped in. James clearly has a passion for the ingredients going into his coffee and matcha. That was apparent pretty quickly, plus we appreciated the friendly conversation. Ordered a large coffee and my friend ordered a matcha. We were both very happy. His dog, Mellow was a little bonus and you can't help but want to spend a moment petting this little guy. Very cute. Tried this place for the first time and it was delicious. Good quality coffee and has a nice selection of pastries . Jame's helped us, and he's also is the one who came up with the variety of recipes for coffee. We were impressed and also service we received was very genuine. It's rare now in days for people to provide such great service. The inside was clean and seating can be outside or inside. If you're in the mood for good coffee, this place is a must. I stopped by with some friends and we each ordered different drinks; The Nutty Professor Latte, The A$AP Yam Latte, and The Cheech and Chai Latte. All three were really good! I can see why other reviewers wrote that the worker was rude. He had a serious demeanor which can throw some people off. I personally just tolerated it because the coffee was worth it. If you like customer service workers being nice and chipper all the time I'd avoid this place though:'). I would also not recommend coming here if you're in a rush, there is only 1 person taking and making the orders. Definitely a place to go when you have time to spare. The place is also very small with a couple of seats outside. The aesthetic inside is cool and the fact that outside is near the metro station makes it look neat too. Overall, cool place. read more

This place opens up at 7am as its stated on the front door and online. Walked in at 7:05am excited to try this spot out since we were in the area. Was met with a man who didnt even look up to greet us. He rudely stated "I just got here" and the "shop isn't gunna be ready for a while". Pretty much just gave us a cold shoulder. No "my bad or i'm sorry about that". No "come back in 20". I get things happen, but it felt like we were intruding in his apartment and that we shouldve known he was gunna open later than what the hours state. The employee there was very impersonal. Every person not of color that walked in there the was friendly, talkative, cared about whatever they had going on. Anyone else? Yeah you could forget it. I think that narrative of not liking people just because the color of their skin is a bit run out. Common courtesy and respect goes a long way with anyone, not just your "group". Normally I have trouble paying $8 for a latte, but it was worth every cent here. This was easily one of the best lattes I've had in LA. The honey syrup was wonderful and worked so well with the peanut butter and espresso in the latte I ordered. It was a one man show so if you're in a rush and the place is busy, it might take a while. But if you have the time it is so worth it! The space is small but very cute and there's a dog named Melo there to greet you when you walk in. I joined my friend in DTLA for a conference she's attending and being her usual expansive self, she wanted to introduce me to this cafe she stumbled upon. I personally like the spot myself - the space is nice, I'm rather partial to the artwork by Mikolaj Wyszynski (and yes, I had to search his name to make sure I spelled it correctly) because the pieces so perfectly portray the graffiti of the city but also the different moods DTLA can give. I ordered the Nutty Professor latte - one of their specialty drinks and the ham and croissant sandwich. First off, when you get the sandwich, they toast it for you and it is pretty tasty - the texture is a toasty flakey and a nice combo with the ham and cheese. Just make sure you eat it as soon as it's warmed up - if you wait to eat it later, it's just not the same. The Nutty Professor latte was pretty damned good! This one was made with love, and drinks made with love normally require a little extra time but often come out on top! - it's also made with peanut butter, for those who have nut allergies. But if you don't get anaphylactic reactions to peanut butter, I would absolutely recommend this little treasure. I did read the reviews below before adding mine, and I can see how some of those scenarios could happen. To some degree, the reviews remind me of other places I've been to in NY or inner city Chicago, where the smaller shop owners or workers allowed themselves freedoms that may come off as unprofessional or are just outright rude. I'm not here to dismiss the other reviews because I'm sure there's truth to them, but I also want to say this wasn't my direct experience because mine was pretty good, and I can see some growth from the time of those reviews to today. I also feel like this spot is the stuff that inspired the ones we've seen on tv shows in the past: the kind that, if you got to know them better, you might like going there more often - even if they show their less perfect human side, you know what I mean? However, when we asked a couple of questions about the menu, his responses were passive-aggressive and dismissive. It felt like customer service was an afterthought. The shop itself is well-decorated, the drinks are solid, and the dog is a nice touch--but none of that makes up for being treated poorly. I ended up tossing my matcha despite it tasting good, just because of how unpleasant the interaction was. Truly, one of the worst coffee experiences I've ever had. Came all the way from Sacramento to grab a Matcha and was denied service. I asked for a blueberry Matcha and asked if honey could be added, the owners immediate response was ew why, when I responded with, I simply like it in my drink it adds flavor he stated he could not add it to his drink because he "did not want to change up his menu and his creations". I asked him if he could add soft top or cold foam to the top and he said no he will not change any of his menu. I took a drink, was it a good drink? yes. but not for the service. I came back the next day, hoping for a different worker, and was upset with the fact that he was still there. When I asked for honey and soft top again, he told me "this is simply not a tea or coffee shop place for you". I told him I've never been to a restaurant that offers customer service and not been provided customer service. I told him could you just add honey on the side and cold foam on the side and I'll add it myself and he told me no. Why work in customer service if you're simply not gonna provide customer service? I've been to many coffee shops and Matcha shops all over Los Angeles and have never been treated this way, very disappointed wouldn't come here if the coffee was free. The dog isn't friendly and neither is the owner. Not sure what all the hype is about. It's simply just a upper end. Coffee shop with a rude management Zero out of 10. read more

I walked in here wasn't greeted it's about 4 other ppl in line , the barista(man) making drinks was too busy watching baseball on their tv that projects on the wall.
