    White chocolate raspberry cheesecake

It was my first time at Vi's. We only had the cheesecake, but it was AMAZING cheesecake. The richest cheesecake with incredible cream cheese flavour. The slices are expensive but huge, so it's worth it. The inside of Vi's was cute and quaint and seemed like a nice place to stop for lunch as well. I will definitely be back!

I've had their mess before and they are very honestly, reminds me amid cook old home cooking. The ribs and shepherds pies are both great choices. They usually have their specials up on the board for you to view, and they move it around form table to table as you are seated. They also have a large assortment of cakes and pies to choose from as well. You can order full fixed cakes for special occasions or individual slices. My personal favourite is the Black Forest cake. The restaurant itself has been around for quite a while. Inside you will find a fire place and cozy seating, very homey and comfortable. If you decide to go on a busy night, make reservations as there is limited seating.

    Peach pie

So I had pre-ordered a peach pie for my husbands birthday. And it was ready when I went to pick it up. The pie looked absolutely gorgeous, golden and crispy. However we were so disappointed with this pie. The filling was clearly made from canned fruit and was literally tasteless, it wasn't sweet at all. I'm not a huge pastry fan, but it's my husband's favourite and he also said the the pastry wasn't that great either. Very disappointed with the end result, and it's unfortunate as the pie looked so amazing. And it was not cheap either, like $30 for a pie that we didn't want to take a second bite out of.

This is more like a 3.5 review rather than a 4. I came here for lunch on a Saturday after hearing some good things about it. It was quite busy inside but I was able to snatch one of the last few empty seats. They don't have a paper menu here but instead use a big chalkboard menu that they roll around to the tables. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and my boyfriend ordered the Shepherd's Pie. Chicken Pot Pie-I had high expectations for this becuase it seems to be a dish that's ordered often. Perhaps my expectations were set too high becuase it tasted like any normal chicken pot pie. Nothing was wrong with it but there wasn't anything that was unique or impressed me with the taste. Shepherd's Pie- I wish I ordered this instead. My boyfriend really enjoyed it. I had a couple of bites and it was delicious. The meat was flavourful and seasoned perfectly. The pie was soft and yummy to bite into. We also ordered dessert since it's what this place is known for. The pie pieces are big but $7 per piece is a bit steep. I rather have a smaller slice for a lower amount. We ordered a banana cream pie and carrot cake. They were both super creamy. It was a bit too much and we weren't able to finish the pieces. I feel like there's better desserts out there at other cafes. They were good the first couple of bites but it got too heavy in the end. Overall it's a homey restaurant/cafe that fits certain people's tastes but it's not a place I'll go back often.

    Ham and Swiss. Oh yea.

Ok. I've ordered desert/ pies and the peanut butter marshmallow squares. Absolutely delicious. So for the first time today I decided to go for lunch. The menu is what seems to be new daily. Colourfully Hand written on very large portable chalk boards. I was hungry for a sandwich so I ordered the ham and Swiss. It was a two hander for sure and was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend it. They also have plenty of hand crafted soups/ specials daily. Remember, this was a pie shop over a decade ago. I will definitely be back to try many more items on the menu. Cheers

    Key lime cheesecake

Super cute place to sit in the summer in their courtyard. Or take it home! I had the key lime pie cheesecake and the white raspberry cheesecake. I definitely preferred the white raspberry as the key lime was a bit too tarty for me. They also have a fun bistro menu that I hole to try. Super impressed with the decor in the patio!

I came to Vi's for Pies twice last week! Pie, Pie, Oh My! Well, I mean... I intended to try the pie BUT the cheesecakes stared me straight down through their beautiful lit up glass display each time we came in. Okay, okay... Next time, I promise, I'll try Pie at Vi's! The service was exceptional on both of my recent visits. The first visit was a group of four following a function downtown. We sat, ate cheesecake, drank coffee, and visited for two hours. Not once did we ever feel pressured to leave - 5 stars right there! On my second visit, again we came for a dessert after supper elsewhere and admittedly it was a Friday night around 9pm and their display case was sadly lacking as nearly everything had been gobbled up by earlier patrons. Services was still top notch! Okay... the low down: Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake - OH MY GOODNESS... You shouldn't even be allowed to come here if you don't give this cheesecake a try. Tart and Sweet - heavenly! ( I mean, seriously... I love TART!) Orange Pineapple Cheesecake - My least favourite of everything I tried (think subtle flavours) but still a solid cheesecake Oreo Cheesecake - Brought home for a treat for my hubby, and we didn't try it for 2 days and it was still AWESOME! Strawberry Shortcake - Served in between a sliced raspberry scone? Um, yes please! I'm an American and I LOVE love LOVE my biscuit dough and/or scones. This was perfection. Chocolate Caramel Cheesecake - RICH, rich, RICH. Did I mention it's a really deep and rich dark chocolate cheesecake? Paired perfectly with a cup of joe and great for sharing! Key Lime Pie - Okay, I stole a bite of my friend's and it was divine! TART perfection. All the of the desserts (minus the one to go) were served with fresh whipped cream alongside - and the good pure stuff, not the sweetened stuff. Ahhh... Vi's for Pies! I think I've found my newest and most favourite dessert spot! And I cannot wait to come back on a warm day to try out their patio out back - it looks like a little secret garden surrounded by trellis wall climbing foliage. Their dinner menu had me wanting to come back for the full meal deal, too! I think it's cute that they bring around LARGE chalkboards to each table with the ever changing daily menu rather than a paper menu. Vi's for Pies, I cannot believe I waited this long to eat inside your restaurant. I've tried your goodies over the year at different gatherings and birthday parties and I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. I promise, to be a regular from here on out :-) See you soon!

    Quiet in the mornings

This is the seniors hang out of Glenora! You know, the place where our grandparents congregate around their morning coffees to gossip...LOVE IT! Eavesdropping (not difficult, the place is empty in the morning) on their stories made my stay enjoyable and entertaining! I will give the cinnamon bun a million stars. It was delectably crusty and crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside! I couldn't have asked for better ratios of sweet to doughy to cinnamon. That bun is a must-try in Edmonton! Served warm with butter The coffee on the other hand...emm...could have been stronger for my taste (see note about seniors above ), but a solid average cup paired well with the sweet bun. For the lack of distinguishing coffee, I've removed one star. Found parking right behind the building (not signed), and an enjoyably homey, delicious-smelling atmosphere inside. Would certainly return.

Such a delightful spot! Definitely recommend! The service is great! The food is great! The desserts are to die for! A great place if you just want dessert and a latte, or if your feeling dinner they have a great selection- that comes to you not in a traditional menu but on a giant standing easel. We recently had the lime curry soup which was amazing! For deserts they are featured and you get a huge piece of a wide selection of tasty goodies- from carrot cakes, cheese cakes, mousses, and everything in between. You are sure to not be disappointed. Don't forget to take a piece or a whole cake home with you for later they have that option too! Seating is cozy, and although sometimes busy and noisy you can catch the nights where is quiet and almost romantic. Parking is right on the street and there is residential areas nearby with more parking.

One of…read moremy favourite locally-owned and operated businesses, a trip to this bakery after night shift is one of the highlights of my week. Service is always friendly. The store is often busy with a line out the door, especially on Friday and Saturday after 9 a.m. Here's a few tips to be a better patron and have a better experience: Breads can be ordered online for quick in-store pickup. Some items are made daily, some on certain days only, it's all listed online. They will slice your bread in the store for you if you like. Come as close to opening as possible for best selection, especially on one-off days, e.g. - bagels made only on Wednesdays sell out quickly. They also have a lovely European and Canadian cheese selection! Consider browsing their current cheeses online, as there are many beautiful cheeses but no space to really ogle at them in the store. Come in prepared to avoid hovering for too long in the small customer space. There are a couple other regular non-bread items, like honey, traditional dijon, coffee beans, rillettes/terrine, French butter and recently a small selection of deli meat. One could almost make a mixed charcuterie plate after a quick visit here. Parking behind the business is tight but doable. Street parking is available within quick walking distance in the adjacent neighbourhood. Only d-bags park right out front on 99 Ave, thus blocking an entire lane of traffic. I've noticed it's usually mid-age women in expensive SUVs. Goes with the hood I guess. Eat high-quality bread and be happy!

Also, it gives highlight to an delicious food scene, which otherwise can be overlooked because of the area of town that Chinatown is located in. I really believe in the area, and even if it is not Chinatown Dining Week, I still go there often because the food is amazing (at numerous places on 96th street), and the families who have food establishments are really friendly, and care about they do. The staff here are friendly and care about what they do, (as all of the other locations on the street), but english is not their first language, so be patient! The women here running the bakery were fantastic, but we needed to do some charades to get what we wanted. Our fruit cocktail cake was only 20 bucks (for downtown dining week, it is slightly higher regularly), which is cheaper than many Costco cakes. It was so delicious. Light and fluffy, full of fruit and delectable whipped cream. I am not a super sweet fan, but I had three pieces of cake the first night. So lovely. They also have a tonne of other baked goods that are worth checking out. You should. Check out Chinatown. Check out the food. And check out the people that are in this resilient community.

I don't think I have had something here that I didn't think was ok to good. My issue the last time was that they add the prices in their head and didn't issue a receipt. They usually use a calculator but I don't recall if they ever give a receipt from the til. This time they didn't use and charged almost $30 for baked goods, which I think was a few dollars off. My suggestion is if you go, add up the items beforehand or ask for a receipt to ensure the price charged is what it should be.

I didn't quite know what to expect walking in, if it was more of a takeout bakery style or a sit down and enjoy sandwich and chicken eatery? Well, we got to try it out and 100% more of a take out shop than anything else. Similar setup to Handy with breads and desserts displayed on the center glass counter display with a few shelves on the side acting as a mini market, the backboard had a few food food items but nothing special. The space is roomier with plenty of seating, but with a feeling of more of a concrete room as opposed to being more welcoming as Handy. We left with a few Portuguese tarts and they were cold? She didn't offer to warm them up or anything either, so my cold tarts were pretty disappointing. Though the filling did taste really good. Maybe we need to visit again on a busier peak time for some better service? Not in a rush to try this place again though.

Popular Bakery is many things - including living up to its name. It is a bakery, grocery store,…read moresandwich shop, cafe, and hang out, all in one. Located on Alberta Avenue, Popular Bakery fits well into the multicultural atmosphere of the area as a Portuguese bakery and restaurant. One of the few places where one can sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy conversation with friends (except when community coffeehouse The Carrot is open), Portuguese Bakery sells fresh baked goods, sandwiches made to order, and a few hot entree items such as Portuguese flame-grilled chicken and pork. A cooler contains a variety of beverages, both domestic and imported from Portugal, and there are a few short aisles of groceries, again, mostly Portuguese. Despite being large and spacious, tables are precious few. I can imagine this place getting very full at lunch time, and doing a mostly take-out business. I was there around four in the afternoon, and the tables were around half full, mostly with older Portuguese men and women sitting around enjoying coffee and pastries, speaking in their mother tongue. My server was Portuguese, and I really felt like I had stepped into another culture - which is exactly what I want when I am visiting an ethnic establishment. I ordered a quarter chicken meal with french fries (my other choice was rice) and a salad (which comes with the meal). I was asked if I wanted my food served regular or spicy and I opted for regular. My food was brought out to me a few minutes later, and consisted of a large plate almost overflowing with chicken, fries, and salad. The salad was a mix of vegetables in a light, almost Italian style vinagrette with a bit of a salty kick to it. The fries were average, but crispy. I thought perhaps they might make their own here, but I was wrong. The chicken, however, was the star of the show. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, the meat was infused with a tangy season mix in oil, accented with salt and garlic. The grilled flavour of the chicken came through as well. Instead of giving me an entire dark or white quarter, I had a wing, a chunk of thigh, and two chunks of white meat. I enjoyed the variety, and it also made the meal easier to eat. For dessert, I decided to try one of the many tempting treats in the bakery's showcase. An egg tart is a standard Portuguese favourite of mine and they were here, but looked rather burned. Some of the other items, such as danishes, eclairs, and other pastries looked delicious, but a bit too much to follow the meal I had. I opted for what looked like a smaller dessert - a slice of caramel pudding. As soon as my server handed me the plate, I thought my arm would drop. It was heavy for such a small slice! I also had a cup of coffee to accompany my dessert and keep me occupied as I finished reading a book. The pudding reminded me of the filling of an egg tart, very firm in texture. The caramel part was probably the light syrup at the bottom of the slice, which tasted more like a lightly burned sugar than caramel. It was good, though, and it took me a while to fork my way through it. The big disappointment of the afternoon was the coffee. It was very, very average. However, it was also inexpensive. The price for a meal is in the $7-$10 range. The sandwiches are on fresh bread or rolls and include a variety of meats. There is also soup. I plan to come here again to have more chicken and try the rice. Portuguese Bakery closes daily at 6:00 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
