I have a complicated relationship with Vi's for Pies. I love the food (the ribs are the best I've had in the city and the desserts will rock your freaking tastebuds) and the prices, but the wait staff can be painfully slow and neglectful. I typically need to ask for drink refills. I've had to wait almost an hour for my dinner on a couple of occasions when the restaurant wasn't even packed. Once, I went for dinner and there was a vacant table filled with dirty dishes in the dining room and it took 20 minutes for them to be cleared away. To be fair, though, I find that the staff looks short-handed and it may help for Vi's to hire a couple more wait staff and it would make the experience an A+. The bottom line is if you're willing to be patient, then you're in for a great meal. Just be prepared! read more

For a place that has the word pies in their name and charged me $14 for two slices of pie, one would think they would be top notch at making pies. I ordered flapper pie which my father used to make when I was a kid. So I know what good flapper tastes like. This was made with what seems like a gelatin base as opposed to a good dairy base. Yuck. But the worst part....the graham crust. It was like sawdust. Barely any fresh flavor, tasted like old stale, fine graham crumbs mixed with water and sugar and pressed and dried out....did not even taste baked. Also got a chocolate pie....was okay. At least the crust didn't taste old. I won't be going back, not even if I am desperately in the mood for pie. read more

Horrible customer service. How can you only have one slice of pie available when you are open until 11:00pm? I was told that they were too busy to answer any of my questions. I have had many people tell me the pies here are wonderful. I don't care how great they are. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid. I love absolutely everything. There are a wide variety of desserts- except pie (go figure). When they do have apple pie I make sure to order it. One of the best pies in the city except very rarely made. The Chicken salad bunwhich is always a favorite as well as the spanikopita. SOO good. The dill sauce they use is like crack cocaine. I could eat it out of the jar. But just try it! This place is nice and small and mostly quiet. Great place for a bite! read more

This place is so cute! They have an ample selection of pies and desserts and on top of that they have a lunch/dinner menu (which all starts at 11am no exceptions). The staff is right on top of you and makes sure you feel appreciated and comfy. I like to judge establishments on how their bathroom is maintained and they did not disappoint. Very spacious and very clean, even the corners and the trim were dust free. I completely recommend this place for business lunches and just friendly get-togethers! read more

I have only eaten at Vi's For Pies once, and mostly go there to eat pies:) and drink tea. The one time I had lunch there neither food nor customer service lived up to my expectations. For no apparent reason, the waitress ignored our party of three for a long time. After making an order, we had to endure a rather long wait which was hard to justify since we only ordered three salads (nothing else on the blackboard menu enticed us). The salads were...well...like salads. Nothing spectacular. I gave Vi's For Pies another chance when one evening my husband and I walked in to have some tea and pie. We ordered one slice of lemon pie, one slice of chocolate fudge pie and two cups of tea. Turns out, Vi's For Pies makes heavenly desserts! Our pies were not overly sweet but rather had a delicate taste and melted in the mouth. I was so impressed that I ordered a chocolate fudge cake from them for my husband's birthday several months later. I adore the interor of this place with its earthy tones. Vi's for Pies is an adorable little gem tucked away on stony plain rd. They have the most amazing desserts (pies, cakes, cheesecakes) and their food is always fresh and amazing! The only downside is that there isn't a huge selection on their menu. They actually write their menu on a large chalk board which a waiter/waitress brings right to your table. It adds to the charm of the whole place and once you order, the food and service is generally fast and efficient. It's a great place to hang out with friends or even go for a date. Awesome customer service. They gave me the wrong cake, and after craving cheesecake for days I was a little irritated that we had to drive back. When we got there I didn't see the cheesecake out in the case anymore and figured they had run out. They had it saved in the fridge for me and remembered they gave me the wrong one. We have office birthdays and I like to get special items rather than an old Costco Slab. I ordered the raspberry cheesecake for our last birthday. Omg. The cake was smooth and that cream cheese mouth feel was amazing. The cake was topped with cream cheese icing. And a raspberry coulee in the centre. The fruit flavour was there through every bite. Banana milk steamer and lemon poppyseed cake. Alright I know what your saying, who gets cake at a pie place. Well none of the pies appealed to me and once you have Pie Cloud in calgary, this just didn't measure. But still this place was nice and quaint. I have no clue what that means, but I am just putting it in there. So my milk steamer was good, it was a like a hot and light banana infused milk. The cake was alright, I wish it had the icing from costco on it, that would have icing done right, but it was more of a condense milk type icing. The lemon filling was tart to counter act the sweet icing. The location of this place is away from the downtown area, it's like it's own entity on its block surrounded by residential homes. I have liked Vi's For Pies for many years. The last two visits though left me wondering about the freshness of their desserts. At the end of July, 2017 the cake ordered was very dry, definitely not fresh. Just recently in the first week of September, 2017, I asked the server if the pecan pie was fresh. He answered, "I would think so; we sell a lot of it, but I will check with another person." He came back to tell me, "Yes, it's fresh; it was made today." I ordered it and to my disgust, I almost broke my fork trying to break it apart. I left some on my plate to be discarded. As a customer, I would like honesty as well as knowledgeable and qualified servers serving only fresh desserts. read more

I really enjoy this little spot!! As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a lovely display of all their bakery goods. Like the most decadent cakes and pies you've ever laid your eyes on. The dining room has a warm cozy fire place in the winter and in the summer the patio is just gorgeous. The food is always spot on. I had the beef brisket with rice and macaroni and a veggie cheddar sandwich to go while my significant other had the chicken pot pie. The brisket leaves your mouth watering for its sweet tangy smoky sensation for days after, while the creamy cheesy macaroni floods your mouth with the comforts of home. The spicy rice as a side dish was just the kick i needed to give it a home run of a meal. Boyfriend wolfed down his chicken pot pie like it was running off the plate. He had a chefs salad on the side with their signature creamy dill dressing which he says haunts his dreams. I gotta love coming to this restaurant as a date spot for lunch or dinner. Always try to get there before the lunch specials run out cause goddamn the chefs at vis for pies are a gift from the gods. It's easy to understand why this place is always busy. We got to try the patio for our first time here this summer. Its a beautiful spot behind in a little garden where its quiet and you can't here the noise of the traffic. The menu is a stand up board that they bring to your table which was different. They have a few beers as well as some craft beers to choose from. Everything we have had there is delicious, just like mom makes. The soups are something that always stands out as fantastic. I've had the cookies and cream and banana cream pies. They were good but not as mind blowing as I was expecting. They felt very heavy and rich. I prefer the banana cream pie from duchess bakery if I've being honest. But the food is great. The service is usually good. Out first time our server seemed like he was having a bad day but it didn't effect the quality at all. read more

Went a third time and ordered a slice of Boston "cream" cake thnking the cream filling was cream but nope it was a gelatin filling. YUCK!
