So, in February of 2021, I was in a tough situation with the car I ended up trading in and under the recommendation of my friend, I came here. He had said that they were running a special sale where they would take any car, regardless of negative equity. It ended up being a bait and switch. I couldn't get the car I originally wanted because of the negative equity. So the salesman suggested a brand new 2021 Sportage to offset the equity a bit. For the sake of brevity, I will spare the details of the circumstances, but I ended up having to have it voluntarily repossessed.
So, I called Kia Finance around the end of May to have the car picked up from my house. They were going to get a hold of the recovery agents to arrange a pick up time, which if I hadn't heard anything for a week to give them a call back. Well, a week passes by, nothing. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called after week two. The representative advised me to have it towed to Visalia Kia as soon as possible. I thought that Kia Finance was going to get in contact with them, as I gave them their location to arrange a pick up. Kia finance never contacted them. I got a call maybe a week later from one of the guys saying that the service department gave them the keys and had no idea what was going on. So I explained the situation to him and thought that was the end of it. Apparently not.
I got another call a week later. This guy had no idea why it was there and did not know where the keys were. At this point, I am perturbed. Why isn't anyone communicating with each other? Why hasn't it gotten retrieved yet? I just had a newborn, so needless to say, I had my hands full, so I couldn't be persistent on ensuring it was being handled. Meanwhile, I start getting collection calls, because the Kia Finance representative said that I didn't have to pay the statement that had processed. My intention when I called them the first time, was to have it retrieved before I got charged for another month. Remember this detail, because it's crucial.
So, I tried calling the finance company again, after the second statement(!) only to be put on hold and disconnected by the off-shore representative. Okay, fine. I had some free time and was in Visalia, so I stopped by Visalia Kia to finally put this issue to rest. Joe, greeted me as I pulled in, like a shark who smelled blood in the water. He brought me in and talked to the finance guy, who didn't know what was going on, despite being the most eminently informed in this type of situation. We went and walked around the back, which had cameras around (remember that detail too...) and the Sportage was nowhere to be found. Joe asked the GM (allegedly) and service to no avail. Gave me a scripted answer, to offset any blame on their part, to give Kia Finance a call. I was suspicious because none of this made sense. I am sure when the tow truck driver dropped it off, there had to be some sort of documentation. They did not know where the keys are. So, I slept on it and called Kia Finance. The representative said that they did not have it in their possession and were under the assumption that somehow the car got stolen. Needless to say, I was furious. How did these professionals drop the ball on something like this? So, my family and I went back down to Visalia Kia and was determined to get to the bottom of this. The manager immediately was dismissive and said that they wouldn't have known if it was stolen as they didn't have cameras in the back. Given the area of Visalia the dealership is in, it would be outright ludicrous not to have cameras back there (they do). It turns out, the car ended being next to the service area. Joe was fully aware of the cars presence at the lot, yet couldn't find out that it was still on the lot? Laziness, is what I surmise. So, after it was arranged to take the Sportage back home, I get a call and a text from a random number, which was Joe. (see attachment)
Clearly, there is a lack of communication and respect. This guy is a degenerate and not at all professional. In what universe is it okay to talk to your clientele in such a manner? It's bad practice. I am not going to sit here and defend my character as a bill payer, but he had no right whatsoever to insult me. There is no defense for that, not in his position. I wish I could give Visalia Kia the benefit of the doubt over one bad apple, but unfortunately I cannot. The financier lady who redid the original loan was callous and ignored my complaint about the foul odor in the car. One of the service department receptionists had an attitude over the phone. Bad customer service just seems to be the sentiment of this dealership. It's like customer service is an abstract concept to these people; It's not, just treat customer as if you were the customer, it's that simple.
