I have been coming to this shop for more than 10 years. I found them because I have a ridiculously complicated prescription (I have vertical and horizontal double vision and need 4 different prisms) and this was literally the only place in all of Manhattan that could make the lenses. I wound up with frames I absolutely love and to this day get compliments on them whenever I wear them. Tomorrow I will pick up this new pair. Popped in just now to ask if they could fix some badly-mangled frames (a member of my family who shall be nameless had stepped on them). The frames were not bought in the store and yet Gabriel went out of his way to try to fix them, and succeeded! He waved away my offer of payment (and even threw in a free case!) I purchased a pair of frames from them that I broke. They said the frames could not be fixed and that I would need to purchase a new pair. I had a new prescription from my ophthalmologist but they thought it would be better for me to spend $50 to have their optometrist give me a prescription. When my new lenses did not help me see better, they told me to wait and get used to them. They only use Zeiss lenses so you are paying for the brand name which is very expensive. They did not tell me that a Zeiss lens would not be the best for my prescription, which requires a very wide corridor. The one positive thing I can say is that they refunded the cost of my lenses that I was never able to see out of, and they sent me an email refusing to do business with me ever again, which turned out to be a wonderful gift. I took my frames to the company that actually makes them, and they replaced the broken part for $40. I went to a fabulous shop in Chinatown to get my lenses. They used my ophthalmologists prescription, although I also had the option to have their doctor check my prescription for free. My progressive, high index, antiglare lenses only cost $400 instead of the $1400 that Visionary would have charged me. Plus, the prescription was correct and all the employees treated me respectfully. read more

How much do you enjoy being misled? How much do you like being promised an order within a certain timeframe, only to be told, *after* the glasses were supposed to be ready, that the timeframe in question won't work? Better yet, how much do you just *love* having the store owner then cancel your order entirely because, you know, that will absolutely expedite getting new lenses on your frames, right!? If you're like me, not very much. And if you're like me, you'll avoid Visionary Optics like the plague. What happened? Unfortunately, that store handled my business in an incredibly unprofessional way. First when an employee made promises they knew the store couldn't fulfill the very moment he made them. Then when the store owner, a week later, canceled my order altogether, causing further delays to fitting new lenses on my frames. From a great first encounter... Things started off well enough. When I dropped off my glasses at the store on 4/17/2019, the bulk of my conversation with an employee there centered on timeframe, as I was working under tight constraints due to upcoming travel: 1. I repeatedly asked how long it would take to get my frames back with new lenses. 2. We didn't just mention timing in passing: that employee confidently assured me he understood the constraints and could deliver the order swiftly. Specifically, he went out of his way to make and repeat the following claims: 1. We at Visionary Optics work exclusively with Zeiss optics! 2. We order our own blank lenses, and have our own lab downstairs! 3. The work would normally be complete by 4/19, but given this is Easter, it might be an extra day! Further, I walked out of the store having amply communicated I was covered by VSP, to avoid any surprises. The same employee assured me, again, that this was a common scenario the store was familiar with. ... to a botched order. This is what ended up happening instead: 1. Since I hadn't head back on 4/22, I called. 2. The person on the phone casually mentioned that the store had sent my glasses to an external, VSP-operated lab, that the store doesn't control VSP's timing, that the glasses might be ready "some time this week", but that was both out of their control and not certain. When I expressed surprise and disappointment, explaining how much that new timeline diverged from everything that had been promised just a few days earlier: 1. That person dismissively offered to retrieve my glasses as is from the lab. Seriously? How would that accelerate getting new lenses onto the glasses in any way!? 2. In response to my inquiry about the possibility of having the VSP lab ship the glasses directly back to me, once ready, to expedite the order, the employee suggested the lab had to ship back to the store, but the store could then ship my way (I live blocks away, so that wouldn't save any time) for a $15 fee! Do they actually care this little? Keep in mind that no new information surfaced between the moment I walked out of the store, with assurances that the team was working on fitting the glasses with their own Zeiss lenses, in their own lab, on a tight timeframe and the moment, mere hours later, when they shipped the frames to a different lab without notifying me of the ramifications. The store knew I was covered by VSP, knew how they'd need to handle this order. So they effectively made promises they knew they couldn't deliver on, at the very moment they made them. Why? I reached out to the store to try and resolve the matter, looking to confirm an updated timeframe or at the very least figure out how such a major miscommunication had occurred. Instead, the store owner summarily canceled my order, resetting the clock on getting lenses for my new prescription. Avoid. read more

I work close to this place. Walk by and saw some beautiful frames at the storefront. Finally decided to walk in to see if they have the swissflex brand that I was wearing because it fits my Asian nose well:). Greeted by Karen. She is Asian and I thought she would understand something like Asian Fit eyeglass. To make a long story short it started very well but ends up very disappointed. 1). The eye exam was not done properly. It take her less than 10 minutes to examines my eyes. Did not let me test fit my prescription for progressive. Have not have glasses done for about 10 years so I have forgotten about the test fit. 2). I asked them if they think the frame will stay and not slid down when I perspires since I have an Asian nose. They said it fits well. The frame is Masanuga and they said with progressive prescription will total around $1100. I thought that was a reasonable price and accepted. 3). Here comes the horror. I can't read well at all. Went back twice and they convince me that I need to get use to the progressive. I told them I'm use to progressive lenses because I have a pair. Went back the third time and they reexamine my prescription and found that its wrong. They make the adjustment and change the lenses. 4). The fit is never resolved. My eyeglasses keep sliding down. Very dissapointed. Lost a lot of time going back and forth and waiting for new lenses. Bottom line is if you are Asian avoid this place. What a loss because I would have gone back for more and introduce my friends too because I do love their frames. If anyone by chance knows where I can fix my Masanuga frames with wire/silicone notepad please let me know. read more

I walked in the store and was greeted by Jesse, she was very friendly and asked me what type of glasses I'm looking for. She was able to select a nice pair of Masunaga glasses and It fits perfectly and looks great. They also accepts VSP benefits and Jesse, gave me the quote on how much the frame and my lenses will cost me. After getting the quote I told her I will be back because I wanted to compare the glasses that I have selected at lens crafter. After a week I decided to go with visionary optics even thought lens crafter lenses and frame was cheaper but picked visionary optics because of the friendly and helpful staffs. (The frame and lenses are reasonable, you get what you paid for) After making the purchase I asked Jesse, the expected time frame to pick up my glasses and she said its gonna take 20 mins. I was surprised and shocked. I was wowed the fact that how efficient, friendly and quick service they were able to provide. FYI they have great selections of glasses. I will come back again. I was really impressed with my visit here today. I saw Panos Karageorgiou and am literally reviewing as soon as I got home so I won't forget - that is how happy I am. I have GPC, dry eye and a fairly high prescription. I've been seeing another eye dr continually for these issues, but came to Visionary Optics to use my yearly free check up with my VSP insurance. Dr Karageorgiou was very patient and listened to my long list of concerns and addressed every single one. He talked through all of the issues with me and asked questions that the many other doctors I've been seeing have never asked. Yes, all of the eye drs I have seen were helpful and knowledgeable, but I really felt like he took his time to cover all of my issues. I felt he was actually thinking about my issues as opposed to giving me generic answers/solutions. He was very personable, kind and made me feel comfortable. The rest of the staff was very personable too. I work at a health clinic and am always highly critical of how I am treated at other facilities/center/stores, etc...they surely passed my test! I was greeted very warmly and on my way out they talked to me about the different types of lenses and costs. They were all knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job. Also, getting an initial appointment was very easy. Five stars for this place, in the future if I need to see an eye dr again I will definitely come here instead of my previous place. Upon realizing that I left home without sunglasses (on a VERY sunny day), I ventured into Visionary Optics to make my first purchase. I had flirted with the idea before. There are some fabulous shades within this den of the eye-sight-challenged. 20/20 vision will not keep you from a kick-ass pair of sunglasses. Small designers and more well-known designers are evenly represented. Don't expect to leave with a cheap pair, but the customer service is worth the price tag. I found Visionary Optics through my insurance (Aetna), and based on the strong positive Yelp reviews, decided to give it a chance. It was easy to get an appointment, the employees were attentive and down-to-Earth, and the optometrist was thorough with the exam, personable, and knowledgeable. I was particularly impressed with VO because, unlike some other stores that sell eyewear, they were not pushy with their merchandise in any way. In fact, I was ready to purchase a full-year supply of contacts but was stopped by the doctor. He had just given me a new pair to try, and since "it takes 20 minutes for them to settle on your eyes", he wanted me to wait a couple of days before buying to be sure they stayed comfortable. He also encouraged me to check 1-800-CONTACTS (from where I usually buy my stash) to be sure that their prices are comperable. How often do you hear of that happening?! I have to go back soon to get the dialation portion of the exam (I didn't have sun glasses at the time to protect my eyes post-examination), and to get my hardware. I was traveling in NYC with a single pair of daily use contact lenses. After I threw them out at the end of a day, I realized I'd planned poorly and needed one more pair. I phoned up Visionary Optics looking for a pair of disposable lenses I needed that evening, and they were able to dig up a pair with my prescription in a hurry. I walked in over lunch and walked out with a way to see for the evening, and the staff generously said there was no charge for the single set of trial lenses. Despite their being so many opticians in this city, so many fall short of providing quality products and commensurate service. Not Visionary. Its team provides not only some of the best names in eyeglass design, like Barton-Perreira, Mykita, and Lindberg (my favorite), but also great Zeiss lenses. But just as important, its service is top-notch. When I went in for a new pair of progressives, I did so with some reluctance, because I love Moscot's lenses--just not their frame. Upon meeting my sales associated all I had to do was tell her what kind of look I wanted, how I treat my glasses, and generally how much I wanted to spend. Best place ever! I mean that really. I was just looking for a place that took my insurance (VSP) that was near my office and that offered ZEISS Lenses. (Zeiss has a machine that looks at the shape of your eye and makes a lens just for you, and they have it here) I originally went in because I was having an eye problem. Working, staring at computer monitors for 16 hours a day wreaks havoc. I had severe dry eyes. I saw Dr. Panos Karageorgiou. Best eye doctor I've ever been to. Extremely professional and knowledgeable... and very personable. And I've been to some good ones. I have a rare condition where some of my eye lashes grow into my eye (genetic) and he also really helped me with that. Which is above and beyond. Most eye doctors charge an arm and a leg for this and don't include it with normal treatment. I saw him a total of three times over a month to check that my eyes were back to normal after having been on prescription drops. The last time was to get a proper eye exam. Sadly though I didn't have time to pick out new frames here before I had to move to Los Angeles for work. They have some very nice frames. A lot of high tech, beautifully crafted ones that I had never heard of. And the sales associates were extremely knowledgeable. And nice. Best EYE place in NY! read more

After checking out their Yelp Reviews I called and was able to make an appointment that week. I saw Dr Sherman who was lovely, professional and efficient. I was lucky to also be taken care of by Lydia in the store who spent some time going through their range of frames with me. She was patient, knew the stock well, and not pushy on price or product. Very impressed. Was looking for a new optometrist since I needed to get a new prescription for contacts/glasses and just received new health insurance. Did a search for them within my network and picked them because they were so close to my office. SO easy to schedule an appointment. I had emailed them through their site and the response was immediate. They asked about the type of insurance, DOB, and availability. Went in for an appointment and was greeted by friendly staff. Filled out some paperwork and then went in to meet with Dr. Melissa Sherman. She is great! Very friendly, informative and thorough. She was also very patient with questions I had. I had to be fitted for new contacts because the ones I had were an older brand that barely allowed any oxygen to flow into the eye. She did a very thorough exam and fitted me for new contacts. I left with a trial pair and she told me to come back immediately if I felt any discomfort so that I can be fitted for another pair. No need though. Contacts were much better than my previous brand. I followed up that same night via email about purchasing and getting a copy of my prescription and the next day they emailed all the details + receipt. Overall, a very great experience. Definitely will be coming here for annual check ups. read more

** WONDERFUL, PROFESSIONAL, and KNOWLEDGABLE** Even though they are in the business of selling glasses, they do not make you feel like they are a greedy pack of hyenas just trying to sell you frames. They want to make sure you have a pleasant shopping experience and find what frames fit your needs first. (Not like other places that will tell you anything to get you to buy the most expensive frames). The staff is passionate about what they do and it shows! Although they did not accept my optical insurance, the staff there (especially Karen Wu) were extremely helpful, knowledgable and professional. She helped me find a few frames that I really liked. (Which is hard for me to find) While she helping me another customer came in to get his glasses readjusted without an appointment and they helped him right away, were able to identify what was "wrong" with his frames immediately just by looking at them on his face. (It wasn't obvious to me, which showed me they know what they are doing) They seem to know their customers personally and take pleasure in the work that they do. Unfortunately, I could not get my frames from them but I would recommend this place to anyone in the NYC area who wants new glasses. Definitely, as good as it gets. I went for an eye exam, new frames, and new lenses. I also wanted to make new lenses for my older frames. I've been wearing glasses for the last 15 years. This is the first time that a store is able to make two new pairs of lenses and all the rest in 45 minutes and I'm very happy. I was skeptical when I saw so many 5-star reviews for this place because I've had some pretty awful experiences with eye doctors in NYC. This place legitimately deserves all of its positive reviews. Before seeing the doctor and ordering my glasses, someone at the shop talked me through my insurance coverage and what I would have to pay out of pocket. He didn't try to upsell me; he just talked me through exactly what I had asked for. I waited about 5 minutes before being called into the exam room. The eye doctor I saw (I can't remember her name--sorry!) was incredibly thorough, sweet, and honest. She answered every one of my inane questions and talked me through all of my options for glasses and contacts without trying to push me to spend more money, the way other eye doctors in the city do. I left my frames with them and, about two hours later, got a call that they were ready for pickup. I definitely found my regular eye doctor and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great doctor and excellent staff! read more
