Stopped in here the other day as part of my long, tedious search for the perfect frames. While I did not find the pair for me, I loved the boutique and thought the owner was great. I've been to places where people just want to sell you anything regardless of how it looks on you - this is far from that. She handed me frame after frame that fit my face shape and was very helpful in answering questions and providing feedback. FYI - you won't find Prada, Gucci, D&G, Chanel or any of those brands here. She has a much more esoteric collection of designers (that I have not personally heard of) but they are very stylish and quality frames. I also have to give credit to Charlotte for her patience with a difficult customer. When I walked in a very rude, ornery older gentleman was attempting to pay with a credit card that was declined. When he was informed of the decline, he became very disgruntled and tried to convince the owner that she was wrong. She politely asked him to call if that was the case to sort things out but he made it seem like it was her fault and told her to do it. I was waiting around during this pointless exchange and she began to hand me frames to try on in the meantime (which I thought was very efficient considering how much time the other customer was wasting) but he got angry and yelled at both of us. She's extraordinarily patient, professional, knowledgeable, insightful, pragmatic, thoughtful and fun. The first time I visited her shop, I wasn't even looking for new glasses. I was accompanying my wife, who'd been referred by a co-worker. It was while listening to Charlotte work through options with my wife that I began wondering if I should purchase new glasses, myself. Charlotte and staff are so knowledgeable and fun. Everything in the store is singular and edgy but somehow classic at the same time. My partner got sunglasses from them a few years back, so when my old glasses finally gave out recently, I did a thorough search but my best experience and options by far were at Charlotte Jones. They're not inexpensive but I got exactly what I wanted and needed. A few specifics that may be helpful for others: I have a very strong correction so I normally wear contacts. I wanted small frames to minimize the lens thickness. This proved really difficult because the hipster trend at the moment is for big frames. Charlotte was very understanding of my vision needs and had gorgeous simple frames with clear plastic around the lenses and black temples. They polished the edges of the lenses and so it all blends. It was an investment for sure, but I actually *want* to wear my glasses now which is amazing. They don't take vision insurance but FWIW my recent experience is that vision insurance doesn't have great coverage for anything beyond the simplest glasses. I used my flexible spending plan with no issue. They don't have an on-staff optometrist to do a vision exam so you'll need to do that elsewhere and bring your Rx - not usually a problem or big expense. The frames are great, the service is good. However, the lenses are overpriced and inflated. This is the only location so it feels as if you are paying the business' rent. I live in Ohio and always go to Charlotte Jones for the latest in eyeglass fashion--as she is on the cutting edge. Was a long time client of over 10 years of Robert Marc, but their customer service became really weird at the Columbus Avenue location. They promised to find me the same frames I bought from them that broke and after three visits and as many phone calls I could not find anyone would follow up with me because they didn't want to "speak for" the other rep who was doing the hunt for me. On a fluke I went into Charlotte Jones, she took the details of the frames and by the time I got home (about ten minute walk) there was a message from her that she found the exact frames in original color and two different other options and would I like to come try them all on in two days when they arrive at the shop? Hell yeah! I bought my same old same olds and love them, and they were cheaper than Robert Marc (not by much, but cheaper non the less). Love everything about this shop, that it is a local independent entrepreneur who is trying to make it on her own against big chain stores, and that she smiles and waves when you walk by and she recognizes you. THIS is the kind of shop that used to be all up and down Ninth Avenue in the good old days. Oh, and she has an astonishing wide range of frames -- all sorts of shapes, colors, etc. and she there is no pressure applied or felt to try on fifty of them. I have been wearing glasses for the past 11 years and I have definitely noticed that glasses are representative of the person wearing it. In the past I had never really felt that my glasses represented me and never felt truly comfortable with the glasses I had (making me opt for contact lenses on a normal basis). I bought a pair of glasses from Charlotte Jones a few months ago. The staff is friendly and they have a nice selection of frames. However, I feel everything is a bit overpriced and I felt pressured/schmoozed into buying some very expensive frames. Also, the staff weren't very forthcoming about all the lens options. It wasn't until I said the $400 lenses (on top of the frames) was a deal breaker that they revealed cheaper options. I realize it's a business, and designer frames are notoriously expensive, but it would be nice to feel as if the customer comes first. All in all, it's a decent store but quite a bit overrated on Yelp in my opinion. read more

In the City vacationing and visiting family in Hell's Kitchen. Apparently, I slept on my transition/progressive glasses that I purchased about 1 year ago. Ugh. I read up on reviews of eye glass shops in the area and CJ had a 5 star rating so we walked over to see if they could mend my glasses. I've had a 50% success rate with a badly bent broken arm on glasses, so I went in hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Tatianna didn't think they could be fixed and I agreed with her. The arm looked like it could break right off if bent the wrong way, but thank goodness for Tatianna and her magic fingers! She was able to save them, at least for now. I did try on some very foxy frames that she picked out for me. As stated in other reviews you will not see name brand designers in this shop, the lenses are unique and hand made and gorgeous! I have never been more thrilled to review a business. I was a long time "contacts only" person. I wore my glasses at home, away from the public. A few months ago I looked into Lasik surgery. It turned out I was a perfect candidate but leading up to the surgery I needed to wear glasses for two weeks and toss away those contacts for good. The glasses I had for my "home only" time were old, completely out of fashion and the prescription was wildly out of date. I went (on the recommendation of a couple of my friends) to see Charlotte. We had a fantastic talk about Lasik. She was so excited that I was a good candidate and she wanted my two weeks before the surgery to be painless but also fashionable. She picked out the perfect frames that were stylish but wouldn't break my bank at all. Honestly, she gave me an incredible deal and took no time at all getting them made.
