Visionworks - Glasses - Optometrists Near Me - Brookline, Massachusetts

I have been going to Visionworks for 10 years. Satisfied with the glasses and the prices, customer service more hit-or-miss but I was very impressed two weeks ago with Mr. Rojas. I had gotten a pair of glasses at that store about 1.5 years ago. After wearing the glasses for a few hours my ear would be irritated, so I kept on wearing my older glasses. I went in twice over this time to get the new pair adjusted. The rep would bend the ear piece a little, hand them back, have me try it on, and ask 'How does it feel?'. After only 1-2 minutes it felt fine but by the time I got home the glasses were irritating my ear cartilage again. I tried again two weeks ago. Mr. Rojas actually got up, walked behind me and looked to see how the glasses fit! After three iterations he pronounced it a good fit. I have worn the glasses continuously since then without any discomfort. I wouldn't normally post to Yelp but the VisionWorks site does not have any easy means for feedback. There is a cognitively impaired chatbot named 'Amelia'. Store management probably gets Yelp feeds, hopefully they share the good comments with the employees. read more

I have shopped at Warby Parker for 5 years and thought I'd try somewhere new. WHAT A MISTAKE STICK TO WARBY PARKER!!!! I should have looked at the reviews before I came here! What an awful business. Manny is a rude and disingenuous salesperson. I asked FIVE seperate times- what was the total price of the glasses I picked out? He danced around the answer, refused to be honest and forward with me. I had to go PAY FOR MORE PARKING because he was yapping and dicking me around for so long. He called himself my "little brother" which is so cringe and weird. You're not my brother, my brother is dead. What a horrible thing for you to say to me. And of course, he told I had glasses covered for up to 200 and I did not! The total cost of 2 pairs of $100 glasses was over $300. He was not truthful or forward about thew pricing break down and I had to twist his arm and pay for more parking before I could get a straight answer. Manny you suck! Thanks for ruining my day. Popped in to this location and was warmly received. They kindly replaced the nose pads on my glasses quickly and for FREE! Manny was pleasant and professional and even tightened my glasses and cleaned them. I went in under the guise of 'free' pair of glasses, but it became clear that I was still somehow having to pay over $300 given my eyesight needs. Ordered glasses from them with 'High Index' lenses as my prescription was pretty bad (i.e. very near-sighted), so I made sure they would give me the thinnest possible lenses - what I got was a joke. The lenses were 3x-4x thicker than the glasses I had on me, which are 15 yrs old from Lens crafters. The person who made the glasses (a slovenly dressed unshaven guy) swore up and down that it was because my frame was bigger...which it was not - tried to gaslight me when I held them next to each other. After arguing with him, I asked for my money back - at which point this guy threw down my paperwork and said "I don't care. I don't care". The manager who was giving me the refund heard this as well and apologized on his behalf. As I was leaving, I said to the manager, showing him my glasses, is this the best you can do - 3x-4x the thickness of a 15 yr old pair of glasses...he said he did not think they had the same technology as Lens crafters (from 15 years ago!!). The moral of the story here is they were either lying about giving me the higher end lenses (which I paid for) or their 'technology' is truly 15 years behind...either way stay far far far away from Visionworks. read more

A couple of years ago my then pre k son yelled he had to use the bathroom when we were on our way home from school. The closest place that had a bathroom was this lovely establishment. I run in with a kid holding himself and desperately I beg that he could use the bathroom. We aren't customers so I wasn't upset by the hesitation but the person working graciously agreed. We were in and out. I promised I would come back when it was time for my eye exam and I didn't lie ! :) Had a good experience here. I thought my eye exam was great and the doctor was very respectful. I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have safe COVID practices. This is just a matter of preference : I only didn't like how they talk to you about prices and how much insurance covers , what frames are free, and how much all add ins are and how much the total price is basically in front of everyone. I thought that's what the back desks are for, so it surprised me. But not enough to put me off or never come back. I'll definitely do business here again. But I don't know if all customers should hear about others' prices. A little awkward. I guess you can't talk as quietly anymore with masks :) Maybe one suggestion is to do some sort of menu thing where customers can check off preferences and see price points so they don't have to hear it (and neither does the entire store). It could be like one of those build your own sandwich joints -- but build your own glasses! Maybe post covid it can be done with a tablet. Just want to make sure I add, because I am a goody goody (as evidenced by my Elite badge-ha JK)--The manager, Alexander, is extremely pleasant. His humor and kindness will make your day! Horrible place. My girlfriend needed glasses but first we wanted to get her eyes examined for any signs of cataracts and to see if her prescription changed. The issue started soon as my girlfriend came out of the doctors office, got a women with an attitude problem who tried to bill my girlfriend for Contact lens fittings which she never asked for and didnt get done. The woman kept trying to get her to pay for it, we were like "are you kidding me? she didnt ask for it nor get it what dont you get, lady?" Then she said she was going to go and talk to the doctor about it finally, So there is a back hallway and you can see the coming and going activity and the doctor came out of the far back door / room and into the first, the woman we were dealing with passed that first door and went to the back one. The doctor then comes out of the first front door room and talks to the receptionist for very quick second -goes back into the first door and the woman comes from the back room and back to us, tells us He told her he did do it!!!! Lied to my face! So I walked into the first room and talked to the doctor and he said oh that shouldnt be on there and he'd take it off. My girlfriend needed new frames but when she picked out what she wanted the women told her they are not for her and they didnt look good on her face sarcastically, they looked completely fine I told her! She was making my girlfriend feel ugly - This coming from an overweight redheaded woman that was very unkempt with an old tshirt and some sort of pajama looking pants. Told her we are getting them anyway. Then when trying to buy the 2 frames we picked out the woman tells us our insurance is not working! They had a sale on frames and for some reason the computer would not work with insurance to buy them. They played with the computer for almost an hour and we had it. They told us they would try and call some vision works center to have it fixed or something and would get back to us. This was to take an hour, we were there for three! Well they didn't. I went down there 2 weeks later without my gf and asked them about it as she Needed new glasses. The first thing they tell me " Oh , says here you need to pay for contact fittings " ARGH! I explain again the situation, It never happened! She said shed call the doctor, I said forget it, you people are completely incompetent. She however did call this time and said there was no bill for the contact fittings... I just laughed and hung up the phone. Avoid like the plague! We will never go back there ever again! read more

This place is an absolute NO GO! After calling and making the appointment, I arrive and wait 20 minutes past my appointment time. Then your Dr. K approaches and very loudly asked if I was buying any glasses. Then she asked if I had any kind of insurance, to which one of your other employees says " wow, she has completed all of the necessary paperwork and we've checked and confirmed her insurance at the time of appointment. Got a new pair of reading issues recently. The optometrist was great. The staff were really helpful in picking frames that fit my face. Used a 50% coupon that made the glasses more affordable and the glasses were ready pretty quickly. Another reason they get 5 stars is I had an issue with my Nike frames chipping off a piece. I brought them back and they replaced them with a new frame no questions asked. I highly recommend this location. read more

The customer service at this location was appalling on my one and only visit. The eye doctor was courteous and the actual exam was fine, but the staff in the shop were unhelpful and extremely slow. My family had been loyal customers of the Harvard Square location for almost twenty years, starting back when it was Cambridge Eye Doctors, and we had always been satisfied with both the quality of the exams and the service we received. That location unexpectedly closed in September, one month after my children had their annual exams (which were covered in full by our vision insurance). I needed new contacts in October and discovered that location had closed. Visionworks directed me to Washington Square with the assurance that all my records had already been transferred and the transition would be seamless. It did not occur to me (since it's the same corporation) to double check that I would be able to use my insurance. No one at Visionworks even hinted that this might be an issue until the time of my appointment, when the shop manager was dismissive and uninterested in addressing my frustration over this baffling change. The poor customer service extended to everyone but the eye doctor. Staff spoke on the phone at length while I was waiting for assistance, dawdled over tasks before offering to help me, and showed no interest in actually serving my needs. I will not be continuing as a patient at any Visionworks location after this experience. 1 star only in consideration of the fact the optometrist was competent. read more

Everyone there was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. There was no long wait at all. I have four kids, so I was expecting to be there all afternoon. I was really relieved because we were in and out of there much sooner than I thought we would have been. This is a new location for us, as we had previously been going to the Visionworks in Harvard Square for many years, but the commute wasn't so bad, and the staff were so exceptional that we'll be happy to keep going there. read more

I would not go there again! I wanted to get a pair of glasses, did not feel that I got the proper attention that a customer deserves.. While having conversations with one staff member, I got interrupted by a shouting from another part of the office. Went in today, 6/16/20 and I must say, very happy . Honestly , can't speak for anyone else's experiences (seen some horrible reviews for the location) but I genuinely enjoyed the cleanliness of the store and Dr. White's bedside manner. Noticed a blond woman, I didn't get her name, think she was manager, but she was keeping count of all customers which made me feel safer that she was paying attention and being the eyes in the front. Mind you, COVID-19 , is still alive and kick in'. Dr. Randall White is great! I might be the first person to ever want to make friends at the optometrist but he's very kind, and detailed and if you ask he will definitely explain and break things down for you, which is great cause I don't speak doctor lol. Avoid at all costs. This place is horribly disorganized. The first time I went there it was an annual glasses Rx exam. I had the first appointment of the day and about 10 minutes past my appointment time I had to knock on the glass to get the chatting staff to open the door and let me in. This was my second walk by since they weren't open at 9:00am, so I went to Nero's to get coffee. The actual appointment took over an hour because the doctor was late and then intermittently saw three other clients while I waited. The woman who rang me up gave me a follow up for a week later after leaving about 6 time while processing my info to do other things. When I came back for my SCHEDULED follow up appointment to get contacts with my new Rx, no one had me on the books and the staff said they wouldn't be able to just fit me in because even though I had the appointment paperwork, they didn't have me in the schedule. I waited about 30 minutes and then left because I had planned my day around that appointment and couldn't afford to wait any longer. I called today to get a copy of my Rx update to submit to my company for the insurance paperwork. They said they didn't have anything to give me because I didn't stay for the follow up and if I needed the paperwork I could come back but I'd have to pay because it was outside of the 60 days. The customer service is horrible. Their lack organization is appalling and they are utterly unwilling to work with clients and accommodate their needs. **Update: my Insurance only covers one routine eye exam per 24 months. Since Visionworks billed got that service and didn't finalize/won't release to me the contacts RX, I won't be able to get contacts or another exam for 1 1/2 years unless I want to pat everything out of pocket. STAY AWAY!!! Dr.White is great, but the man that was there before him is HORRIBLE. My appointment was on Saturday about two weeks before Covid shot everything down. The Dr. was huffing and puffing about not wanting to be there because it was Saturday. He was annoyed and rushed my entire appointment, and he had no idea how to use/read the retinal mapping software...he kept messing up and also kept making commentary about how bad my vision was (he made it a point to show the receptionist my prescription when I checked out and make some weird comment. Whatever I needed glasses do I just ignored him and moved onto finding glasses. The guy that helped me was pretty cool, and patient. He also help me find frames I really loved and that looked nice on my face. So they upsell me on the blue light filter, anti-glare, scratch resistant etc...I was like "cool, I really want these done right and insurance covered most of it...so I said yes. Covid happens...they close. Glasses get mailed to me...4-5 weeks after. I'm excited, they look good, I put them on....disaster. One side is great, but the other looks like Vaseline was smeared all over the lenses. I call them to let them know...the receptionist treats me like I'm crazy. I insist on an appointment to have them checked out, and finally get one. I go in, and they continue to insist nothing is wrong. I ask to have my eyes rechecked, and they tell me I need to book another appointment. By this point I'm livid because I don't even live that close and the only appointment is three weeks away. They also wanted me to pay to have my eyes rechecked but I put my foot down and they agreed it was their fault. I go in for my now third appointment. I meet Dr.White abs he's great. He rechecks my eyes, and confirms that the other doctor wrote it down wrong...he put a - where there should have been a +. So another order is placed, and i get them and they look good. Now I wasn't going to write a review, but I had an eye appointment today, and I'm LIVID. While picking out new frames today at a totally different place with legit optometrists I tell them all the extras my old glasses are suppose to have and how I want the same stuff on this new frame. The staff and optometrist all confirm that my glasses from VisionWorks had none of the extras I paid extra for. Like WTF??? The lenses only had anti-glare. Seriously...stay away from this company and this place specifically ...they will screw you out if your money and mess up your vision. Not worth it. read more

We had two annual exams scheduled for today. The traffic was so bad that I missed my time but we were on time for my husband. We had to travel a bit to another city 35 minutes away because everyone is booking appointments. After my husband was done the doctor came out to speak to me. She was so kind and took me in for my exam! I was very grateful. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Although this office isn't the closest to my home we will return because of the customer service. Bring quarters for the meters are old and you can't use debit/credit cards. After this visit, I am seriously considering never going to a visionworks ever again. I'll put this into perspective, I rarely leave reviews, and if I do, it is either because it was amazing or flat out terrible. This place falls into the latter category. Eye exam was ok but purchasing frames and lenses was awful. The staff gives the worst customer service on the face of the planet. First, they do not assist with selection of frames or provide recommendations, which honestly is fine. But once you do the legwork or selecting the frames, they insist on picking the lenses for you. I know what works for me so why does the staff repeatedly try to add lenses which I specifically declined and asked to not have included? Whenever I politely ask them to remove the specific lenses that they added by their own accord, they get upset and make me feel very uncomfortable. I can't say enough how bad this place. I wish I had read the reviews before going- avoid this place like the plague! read more

I honestly don't understand why this place got such bad ratings because I really enjoyed my experience picking and buying glasses there. They have a wide selection of glasses for men and women. And the service was great as well! The store representatives don't really help you when you pick, but when you are ready to order, they are super polite and kind. My glasses arrived after around 7 business days, and they adjusted my glasses for me when I went to pick it up. I had the worst experience today with a man, I believe his name was Brian. He was an older man, maybe 50 with glasses. I had an issue with my glasses and was wondering if there was anything that could be done. He belittled me infront of customers. Scoffed at me and laughed with the front desk representative at me (multiple times) while working with me. He essentially told me I was lying about why I was there. He also went on to say multiple times how he had "5 star reviews" all over the internet for their amazing customer service. Which is safe to say isn't true. By the end of talking with him, I was in tears and just wanted to leave and of course he ended the convo with "go check out our 5 star reviews." Either this man has a warped sense of reality or has scared other customers into silence. I will never go back to this location after the way I was treated today. Not to meantion to even get this appointment I was asked to be placed on hold for "2 minutes" and ended up waiting for 25 minutes on hold. I am completely baffled how this location is open with such horrible representatives working. I have been to other locations and had great experiences. Only go here if it's a last resort. I loved my optician but she moved far away so went here because of my insurance. Got an appointment right away, which was nice, but that was the extent of my joy with CED. The optician is nice enough, no problems with her. I was greeted warmly too. However, the front desk assistant, Kira, needs to go. She is absolutely clueless when it comes to anything related to payments or ordering contacts. She didn't know how to order contacts that she wasn't familiar with and wasn't all together with it. It's not a big place, but she cant' multi-task. My first bad experience was a year ago , I ordered contacts and they never even called me when they arrived . I had called twice and they said they weren't there . I was totally out and they didn't have enough samples to give me during the eye exam . Ridiculous. This year , I'm back for more . I had an appointment and came and waited for 15 minutes to be called in . I came in 15 mins early to fill out paperwork and then waited . I had another appointment right after so I couldn't wait any longer to be called . So I was able to reschedule (barely ) for another time . And here I am sitting here waiting again (15 minutes late already ) as I write this, waiting for my second attempt . Luckily I didn't have high hopes and allowed myself lots of extra time . I work in healthcare , I'm aware of what appointments mean and how important it is not to keep patients waiting . And certainly not every time . Then when I ordered contacts a few months ago one woman said "oh you have this insurance ? So you should get 20% off . " and I said "how come no one mentioned it before when I ordered all the other times ?" This place needs better management . The customer service is extremely poor . I got a pair of eyeglasses at a Cambridge Eye Doctors sister store in another state while still on my parent's insurance. I was really unimpressed with the quality of the the eye glasses manufactured by their parent company. I had already replaced each lens once in the year I had had the glasses, and one of the new lenses peeled within a few months of me moving up here. So I brought it to Cambridge Eye Doctors, where they replaced the lens under the warranty. However, I was really dissatisfied with their opticians. Putting the new lens in left the glasses bent out of shape, and the optician seemed very put out to be fixing them. He wasn't even trying to get them straight, and they were uncomfortable and visibly crooked. I see no reason why I should have to wear crooked glasses! He was so unhelpful I ended up leaving with the glasses crooked, since I was concerned he would make them even worse. A few months later, the screw fell out of the frame, so I replaced it with a temp screw from an eyeglass repair kit. I brought it to Cambridge Eye Doctors, figuring they had smaller screws appropriate to the frame. However, the optician (different person, same attitude) just filed down the extra-large screw that was there- and she left a sharp edge visibly sticking up from the corner of the frame, where anyone looking at my face would see it. The store was busy, and the optician handed me the glasses in a closed case and quickly took the next customer, so before I could notice anything was wrong, she was gone. The glasses/service I got at this Cambridge Eye Doctor and at their other location were so inferior to previous glasses/service I had gotten at other places that I would not go back to this chain at all. My 7 year old glasses have lasted better than my 2 year old glasses from this chain. read more

I went back recently to order my frames, and the optometrist (Deborah) I had seen before was still there and as pleasant as ever, but I was overwhelmed by the rudeness of the receptionists! When I arrived, they were having some trouble with the scheduling and one of the receptionists asked me if I had an appointment. Being in a hurry (I had other things to do!) I said "No, but I really need to get my frames..." She waved her hand at me and said "That doesn't count." Um....Really? Cause I can't see without frames to put my lenses in...and I would guess that most of your revenue comes from the frames you sell....But I didn't have to deal with her, thankfully. I really need to find a new provider - I can't believe I've been going here for 5 years. As other reviews have mentioned, Dr. Kostogiannis is great - In past visits she helped me find a new type of contact lens that improved upon past issues with quality of sight. However, for my most recent visits, I saw someone else and the exam seemed to be rushed through rather quickly. When I came back to have the second contact exam with yet another doctor (after one exam, they require you to return later so they can observe the lenses in your eye), not only did that prescription have to be adjusted, but the glasses prescription also had to be re-done. The front of house staff are disorganized and not good about explaining the cost breakdowns. They will also try to upsell you on "deals" without properly explaining the advantages/disadvantages or additional costs. This place isn't terrible but really isn't worth going back to! read more

Terrible experience. 1). I wait for more than twenty minutes past my appointment time. 2). I called four to five times before the appointment to check if I need to pay the copay. They always answered " I will call you later for the result". Then they postpone again and again. I finally know that I do not need to pay the copay 4 hours before the appointment. 3). The actual eye exam only takes 15 min. The doctor did the exam in a rush. He is not as careful as my previous doctors. 4). After the exam, the office staff is very rude and push you to buy eye lenses and frames in their store. This makes me extemely unconfortable. WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS STORE. read more

Not only can you make appointments quickly (within the week) but they are one of the few places that really does honor their warrantee. Honestly, this would be a one-star if not for Dr. Tsesler, who is really friendly and efficient once you get into the exam room with her. However. I came in on a Saturday for an appointment scheduled at 3:20. When I scheduled, I was told to feel free to arrive early so I might be able to be seen early and to look at glasses. I arrived at 3:00 and wasn't seen until 3:45. Keep in mind this entire time there were about 4 employees standing feet away from me chatting and laughing. I understand doctors run late, but I was really annoyed not a single person bothered to tell me that Dr. Tsesler was 20+ minutes behind schedule. That alone would've made the wait significantly less frustrating. I got my eyes dilated and was sent back into the showroom to wait for 20 mins. Except 20 minutes turned into more than 30 minutes by the time Dr. Tsesler reappeared (and if you've had your eyes dilated before, you know while it's not painful, it's a bit disorienting and I was looking forward to finishing and heading home). Already about 10 minutes late to get me, she began chatting with one of the employees at the desk about - TRUE STORY - basil plants. She sent another employee to go find my chart, and he slowly went to get it for her. In the end, I waited 40 minutes instead of 20 for her to check out my dilated eyes. Once I got in, it took only a couple minutes. By the time I left I'd been at Visionworks for nearly 2 hours! And no, it wasn't particularly crowded. Don't come here if you have anywhere to be or just generally enjoy some efficiency in your medical appointments. read more

I went for an eye exam that was subpar, I placed a contact order through them and was told the order would take 3-5 weeks to arrive and that they would call me once they came in. 5 weeks later, I called them and they informed me that I could come in to pick up my order. I was told I would need to wait outside and then call once I arrived (due to COVID). I was on hold for 25 minutes--granted, the woman at the front desk appeared to be on the phone the entire time, but the other gal who was working didn't make any effort to answer the phone either? I don't know, maybe they just need a better phone system? Additionally, the women who work there are extremely unfriendly. We're all under stress right now with COVID, so I want to be sympathetic, but after two very cold encounters, I will not be returning. The only reason I'm giving three stars (instead of one) is that my third visit (I had to go three times because there was some kind of "miscommunication" with my contact order) a lovely Black woman at the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful. She deserves a raise and a promotion for making up for the other two women! She should be running the show! read more
