I scheduled an appointment for this morning via your website. When I arrived early to the appointment, I was rudely greeted. I explained why I was there, and I was told that I did not have an appointment. I read back the confirmation text, and I was told I was wrong. She was consistently rude and argumentative. She never apologized and didn't try to reschedule or look into the problem. She didn't even ask for my name to look me up in the system. Avoid at all cost! They are rude, dishonest, and will tell you anything to try to sell they're glasses. Once they realized I just needed an eye exam so I could buy glasses online they treated me like dirt. I needed a "PD" and they said I could get it, then I couldn't, then said they didn't know what PD was exactly. It is simply a measurement of the distance between your pupils. It was packed to the max with people but we were in and out, waited our turn and definitely had a great experience here. I have to use this place because it is on my insurance plan, but I will not recommend this place if I have a choice. In addition, they never explained or itemized the charges on my bill so there is no way I know what they were billing. I will give this Visionworks at Columbia zero point (not even one star)! They supposedly get my order ready in mid-November, but one month later, now it is mid-December the glasses are still not ready. Every time I called, staff just let me wait for long time and never get back to me. So, I went to the store to check twice and they just said the order is not ready! Today, again, I called them several times......and onetime wait for almost 40 minutes and they never get back to me! Have never seen a service likes this before in my life. Awful! It has been a nightmare to deal with this store. I think they need more staff to help! read more

Ok so I usually never write reviews...but this place was the absolute worst place I have ever gone to in my entire existence. I usually don't go to the eye doctor often and just order from 1800contacts online. I received a new insurance plan from work which was supposed to cover the contact exam and contacts. My review is super long and detailed. Sorry. But bottom line is this place is a f***** ripoff and NO ONE is professional or knows what they are doing. Please save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. I made a appointment online for Thursday at 6, I left work early and drove to the columbia location. I arrived and said I was here for an appointment at 6 and they told me that they don't have any record and that I probably did not schedule an appointment. I said I 100% did and it was for this location as well. She proceeded to tell me that I didn't make an appointment and "if I made an appointment it would show up in their system". I showed her my phone with an email for a confirmation for the appointment and she shut up and rolled her eyes and said "well we're double booked for the day". I said ok, and thought whatever technical glitch. She told me she can set me up for Saturday at 12PM I said sure. Saturday I come in and I'm greeted and told to fill out paperwork. Cool. As I'm filling out the forms I notice they have my old insurance and go back to the counter and let them know. The lady behind the counter looks at me and then looks at her co-worker and then starts helping someone else. I have really high ignorance tolerance so I stand there and repeat myself and someone else comes to help me. She tells me to leave my form and insurance card on the counter and that someone will help me soon. Ok cool. *Not to mention the fact that they initially left my form and insurance card FACE UP so that the entire store was able to view my information. I flipped over the form before going back to my seat* So my appointment was at 12, it's now 1 and I'm waiting. Someone comes over and has me do the pre eye exam and asks me to sit. She asks me if I wear contacts and I said yes and I have them in, she says "why do you have them in?" Umm idk because no one told me to take them out? Fast forward after that I'm waiting for my doctor and the same lady who helped me at the counter asks for me and I'm super confused. She starts telling me to look for frames and I tell her that I'm only here for contacts. She tells me I'd be missing out on getting glasses and that I REALLY SHOULD get glasses....no thanks I have 2 pairs at home. She starts looking through my chart and I ask her when I'm going to see the doctor. She tells me "OH you haven't seen the doctor yet??? My bad" ....what the f***. I go back to my seat and wait for the doctor and finally I'm called. I thought MAYBE that the doctor would be professional since idk she went to school for this and this is her career. She starts off nice and we get done the eye exam. She asks me for my previous prescription and I tell her and she notes it down, and I also mention that I have not had an eye exam in a while. We get done the exam, she puts me in the room for contact fitting. Contacts seem comfortable and I'm told to wait till someone calls me. Cool. I start to realize that my right eye is not as clear as my left and I walk to the doctor and tell her this. She tells me to "switch the lenses".....I proceed to do so and tell her that now my other eye is a little blurry and she smirks and tells me "this is why you should have brought your box" WHAT THE HELL AM I GETTING AN EYE EXAM FOR???? I shut up and sit down and decide I'll just wear the left eye contacts in both eyes for now, since my eyesight is weaker in one eye by a bit. I get called for the paperwork and payment and the same psycho lady tells me that my insurance didn't cover the eye exam fully and that I'd have to pay for the *contact fitting* and ...get this...the *trial pair*....she proceeds to tell me that the contacts are also $80 a box and I told her nevermind I'll order online. To which then she says....."oh if we use your other insurance we can get a discount"......I asked her if that's even legal and she said yes since it's active. At this point I'm furious because I was not even mentioned to that my insurance would not cover the full eye exam or the contacts in the over 2 hrs I was here. In a mood to just get out of the store at this point I just paid whatever I needed to and now going home with one eye blurry. This place is TRASH. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have made two different purchases at this store and received great service both times. My glasses were beautiful. Recently, I bought another set of prescription sunglasses and my prescription was over a year. They talked to the doctor who agreed to let the prescription stand since I have an existing eye condition that is being treated at Wilmer. (Changing to a different prescription could alter the baseline used to measure my response to treatment. ) Was extremely appreciative of the staff going the extra "mile" to accommodate my eye issues! read more

Was pleasantly surprised from my recent visit to Vision Works this past week. Mostly come to this store for the ease of access. In years past, the wait has been long and confusing at times based on the waiting room along with less than stellar customer service when buying contacts. In years past, contacts usually had to be ordered and orders were messed up, however the needed contacts were availabe and service was great. In and out with no issues. I would just like to point out that I wrote a scathing review for this store a few weeks ago and within a couple of hours their corporate yelp team found it and made a post, for everyone to see, telling me how sorry they were for the service, and asking me to reach out to them so that they could fix the problem. Well I did reach out to them the next day. Fast forward now to almost 3 weeks later and I have not gotten a response from them. This company is a literal joke. They couldn't be faster to make it look like they care on a public yelp review but you can forget about them actually doing anything to fix any of the GREAT MANY problems that are plaguing their store. Also just to let anyone know i didn't even list all of the horrible things that happened during my experience there because I still needed to go back to pick up my glasses and honestly they aren't necessarily family-friendly things to write about on yelp. I'll never visit this store again. Ever. The quick-notes version: deceptive and manipulative advertising. You'll never qualify for any of those "deals" they advertise. The long version: A little background: My husband and I do not have glasses-- so as a whole, this is newer territory for us. Child #1 has glasses and is newly on his 3rd year. We've always used lens crafters in the mall and for the most part loved our service there. I was underwhelmed with them this year as when I purchased their warrantee last year I was told something that ended out apparently incorrect from what they told me when I went to redeem it. I was really mad about that! So! Now child #2 needs glasses. Lured by the "$29 eye exam" and "buy one get one free", I decided to try out vision works. The eye exam was fine, but the technology to test the eyes is not updated like lens crafters is. The staff... are okay. Not particularly friendly or helpful. The guy who helped us particularly. What really made my blood boil about the experience (like, literally-- I was so angry the entire I was in there today to pick up the glasses), was that basically all of their marketing is "gotcha" marketing. It's all BS. There is essentially no way to qualify for any of it. The buy one get one free works on frames $89 (? or something like that) and up. Most of the kids frames are in the $70s or $120+, then the lenses are $55 each. So, they ask, do you want to use insurance? Yes? Well, then you can't get any of the specials. It's all hand held calculators at desks 70s ghetto style calculating out what your price options are, which they spout out to you and expect you to remember?? I think the guy who "helped" us missed his calling as a used car salesman-- def has the aloof game down. Finally he told me the total $195 total. I'm managing my kids as this is all going on, so hand him my CC to get the heck out of there. Get to the car and see I wasn't given the $29 special for the stupid exam. Walk in and ask the clerk. She goes and asks our salesman, who doesn't bother to turn around to talk to me, then she tells me I couldn't get it bc I used my insurance. Today when I went in to pick up the glasses those signs advertising the specials have NO mention of that. The whole place pisses me off. DON'T GO HERE. AT ALL. I just needed a place to get prescriptions so I can get my glasses and contacts online. I was really pleased that I could schedule a same day appointment online. This is why there's an extra star in my review. This Visionworks location is about on par with what you'd expect from these types of establishments. The support staff seems unprofessional. One of the women was loudly complaining to her coworker about a customer. The doctor seemed more concerned with getting me in and out than with making sure my exam was thorough. I guess I really shouldn't complain about the quick service but I didn't even have time to finish my paperwork. Overall this is one of those establishments where they don't really have to be good because people like me will always need eye prescriptions. It's a catch-22. read more

Unfortunately, the other reviews were correct. I can not in good conscience recommend this place. In fact I will complain to my insurance company to see if they can offer an alternative In-Network Provider. My exam was fine but everything changed when I settled on a pair frames. There are some nice people there but the associate assigned to me appeared to only be interested in commission sales. She could not explain why my +1.50 progressives lens were going to cost me almost $500 with VSE insurance. Without any explanation she attempted to up sell me additional frames before answering concerns on price and options. Sad. When I asked for a breakdown she simply closed the screen and said that it was just a promotion. At that point it was clear to me that my business was not appreciated. I explained that I really needed my glasses but could not afford the prices. She then had me initial my receipt and said we were done. How this store can do business like this and exist is beyond my understanding. I debated going back to see if I could talk to the more friendlier associates but my first impression is a lasting impression. I would not accept free glasses from this place. read more

The staff here are always friendly but the wait times can quash any feelings of good will you might have. However, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt on wait times bc I only go right before the end of the year... as does everyone else, so the store is crowded and that obviously will affect your wait times. During those heavy traffic days, perhaps VW could have a couple more employees to ease the overload?? The reason I'm posting this review is because of how disappointing it was to pick up my highly anticipated new glasses tonight and NOT get the frame's designer case (9West) but instead, a plain and unlovely black VisionWorks case. (Fortunately, my son did get a matching Cole Hahn case for his glasses.) What added insult to injury was that they don't even give you a complimentary lens polishing cloth...Really??? I spent close to $400 on one pair of glasses and they can't give me a free cloth?? A small square of cloth??? Of course they have a lens cleaning kit that includes a polishing cloth that you can BUY. Sorry, but I don't like to be nickeled and dimed after having already spent hundreds. As I said to one of the managers, Taj, who btw does a great job, little things like the wrong case and no cloth make ALL the difference to me. It's truly enough to motivate me to look elsewhere for my eye care needs. This was the first time I didn't get a matching case with NO cloth, and as you can tell, that was irritating and frustrating to me. Did they think I wouldn't notice?? To her credit Taj told me to come back bc they should be getting more cases in, but said the cloths were a promotional giveaway...and they had a box of them at one time, but when it ran out they never received more. (Did they ask for more??) I was informed that other customers had also complained about these same issues. So... how many customers have to complain before the situation gets fixed? I will be following up on the case... but I guess I'm SOL about the cloths. However, if I don't get the right case, I (and my family) just may have to give another glasses retailer a shot. Overall, it was a fantastic experience! I needed to get my child's glasses replaced. We had already visited a few small-sized eyewear locations, also some larger ones. Visionworks in Columbia was a clear winner over them all. The selection is unbeatable. The prices are reasonable. The kids selection was easy to access and plenty of space away from the adult selection (so my littles didn't disturb other shoppers). My visit was on a Friday evening, so it was pretty crowded, but we were greeted immediately and escorted to the kids area. Our wait time from initially being greeted to when we were ready to make our purchase was perfect. The staff (multiple members) assisted us in making our frames selection, giving honest and knowledgeable opinions. Overall great. Can't wait to go back. read more

Longest I've waited at eye doc. 2 hours from the time I walked in to when I left. Wasn't even browsing for eyeglasses. 45 minutes wait just to get a price on contacts. I don't believe my exam included a contacts exam, just eyeglasses. Not having issues with contacts so I let it slide. Very understaffed. Manager tries to multitask but is not efficient. Though the staff are nice, it's in the quality and efficiency of your interactions with customers. Convenient location that takes my insurance but I'm willing to drive further next time. In reviews and in the store there were many issues with contacts and eyeglasses orders. I'm hoping my order doesn't have issues or delays. read more

Awful customer service. No on ever answers ther phone. Your call goes into a black hole and recording. I was on hold for 22 minutes. I drove over to the store because I couldn't get anyone on the phone. My daughter had her exam on April 1st and here it is May 27 and there was no notification that her glasses were or were not in. After telling them that they do not answer the phone, they said oh we are so busy - no one was helping anyone on the phone. You cannot get that store by dialing 410-285-0100 - it is recording after recording. My daughter's glasses were in the store and no one contacted us about them being ready for pick up. The website kept sayting that they are being processed and to check back at a later date! Awful store. Visionworks is only as good as its employees and they are awful. We will not be going back. No notification the glasses have been in which I assume has been quite a while and you cannot get a human on the phone. read more

I have not been to other vision works but I may not go to any other location. I just waited 2 days to get a pair of glasses I had worked on. By the way the employees told me that the glasses would be done in one hour. I came back and they were broken. So I do get a new free pair... but really ? I don't understand. VisionWorks is one of the worse companies I have came across. Best believe i give props to good companies. They have done nothing but provide a poor product. My glasses along with my daughters have been nothing but a nightmare. They attempt to offer a warranty for sale, but if you dont purchase it. You will eventually get screwed. My glasses broke with in a few weeks. I got over it. My daughters have continuously been returned for faulty pieces breaking. Every visit they will charge me for repairing my kids glasses which are needed for her being able to see the teacher and her instructions. What happened to companies standing behind their products. We are told to buy America, but what happens when America dosent stand behind their brand. In simple terms. VisionWorks sucks. They at the same time have a high employee turn over. read more

Horrible experience. Placed an order, and when I called a week later, I was simply told "it wasn't ready, call back in 2 days. I called back four different days, each time, I was told the same thing: "it wasn't ready, call back". I called the corporate office to complain about the store. Finally, the store called me to say, "the prescription was incorrect, you need a new one". OK, the next day I got an updated prescription and brought it directly to the store manager, who promised to expedite it and get for me in 5 days. Five days later, I was told the glasses aren't ready and will be ready in five more days. Avoid this store at all costs. read more

Upon discovering that I had three days left of daily contact lenses - thinking I had another box, I called Visionworks immediately and discovered that my prescription had expired a week or so before. I asked to make a new appointment and found out that they didn't have one until four days later, so I asked if they could give me a week's worth of samples to get me to my appointment. The girl on the phone told me the doctor had left for the day, so she couldn't tell me for sure. I called back the next day, explained my situation, was put on hold, got a new person on the phone, explained my situation again and then was very patronizingly told (multiple times) that it was "the law that that don't give out samples to those with expired prescriptions." I know this for a fact not to be true, as I've had eye doctors do just this for me if they can't accommodate an appointment in time before I run out of contacts. Per my conversation with the person the night before, no one "asked a doctor," and the girl on the phone was almost mocking me for asking for a stop gap to get me between my now and my appointment. The one time I did come here they year before, the doctor reprimanded me for having worn my dailies for more than one day, to which I explained that I only did so because I couldn't get an appointment earlier... so she only gave me a few days' worth after telling me I shouldn't wear them for a week. Also, when I called to ask them to fax my prescription to a different provider, they told me I'd have to sign a consent form and fax it back to them before they could do that. In the world of phoned-in prescriptions, I found this surprising and very inconvenient. I don't know what they're selling here, but it must be narcotics for the way they're holding it hostage. Ive purchased glasses here before and had plenty of eye exams as well. This recent visit to this was the WORST! Upon entering, no one even picked their head up to acknowledge me. I shopped around and was not greeted the entire time or asked if I needed help. I gathered my selections and had to go see someone at the front desk for help. Checked out and waited for my glasses to be ready several days later. I went in to try them on and there was an awful glare on both sides of the lenses. The person helping told me it was because I chose a mens frame and it was too big for my face and that's why it happened (I've always purchased men's frames and never had this happen) I also pod to have the anti glare lens. They said they would try to fix it and sent them back. I went back in and the same issue. I was told to pick another frame, which I did. (2 weeks has now gone by) I go in to try on my glasses AND THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. Same excuse about the frames. This time my husband was there and tried them on (a man, trying on mens frame) he had the same issue with the glare of the lenses on both sides. They tried to get me to leave with them and try to take them home and "get used to them". How would I get used to something with a glare so bad that I would literally have an accident if I were to wear these driving at night. After then asking for a refund I noticed they charged me for an eye exam I never even had! Days go by trying to get the refund and I just went back to check my bank account and they refunded me...wait for it...all of my money except $45 for an eye exam! After I had told them previously that they incorrectly charged me and they said they would resolve it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. No one knows what they're doing and the customer service is SO BAD you would think you're on some kind of prank show. This store is going down hill. Fast. read more

I should have read the reviews about this place before coming in. I usually go to Arundel Mills location and have nothing bad to say about that one. Here people were so rude and they treat you as if you desperately need them and not that they need your business. There is a young guy with orange hair at the front desk who has given me the worst customer service I've probably had for the past year or so. The wait is ridiculous long so don't make plans to come on your lunch break or during a set time frame even when you have an appt scheduled (actually, don't make plans to come here AT ALL). Speaking about appointment, mine was rescheduled THREE times, to which two of those were because they misscheduled the date and could not fit me in for at least another week, so coming in for my initial exam and then coming back for a follow up (contact fitting) was a nightmare and took me over a month to get finished with this. Also, they charge a significant higher amount if your eye exam show that you have astigmatism which I have not had it show on my previous eye exam but for some reason the first optometrist stated that I had Astigmatism only on my left eye and only a tiny bit (to where it barely made any difference, but enough for them to charge me more), so I paid the higher amount and after coming back and telling them that the lenses they gave me to try on for Astigmatism did not fit or feel comfortable on the eye that they said I have Astigmatism and so they took that off and gave me lenses without corrections for Astigmatism and those fit perfectly. End of story; I do not have Astigmatism but yet I had to pay more which just looks to me that this was a catch. I have to say that the lady at the front desk; Cathy and my last optometrist named Dr. Rainey were so extremely sweet, helpful and professional. However I do not recommend this location and do not plan on coming back here again. read more

Would be a ZERO if I could. Ordered glasses November 2 to replace a broken pair. Was told they would be ready in 10 days (Nov 12). The receipt said 2 weeks (Nov 16). I called on the 16th and was told it would be another 3-5 days, hopefully. The people are nice but the turnaround time is insane. If you need glasses, go somewhere else. read more
