One star is being generous for this place. I've never had problems before with staff or anything else, I grew up with the women who ran a lot of the local areas daughter and she always treated me with respect and kindness, came in today to get a trial pair of my contacts which I called over the phone to confirm would be alright and to get a copy of my prescription which equally was told would be alright. I show up and two older women who's names I couldn't care to remember immediately caught an Attitude with me telling me I couldn't get contacts because I got my contacts from someone out of state which equally was not factual, I had that record faxed to them about six months ago. Which equally was confirmed over the phone. I told them this information and tried to show proof of my prescription which I had gotten from this exact location not even seven months ago. The one women started catching an attitude telling me I'm wrong and that she's a licensed professional who's been doing this for 8 years and she knows better than me and that I was being "abusive" for telling them that I know what I'm talking about which I found infuriating. The other women proceeded to agree with the women and said I didn't have anything on file since 2022 which is WRONG. then proceeds to tell me that I DO INDEED have a record of December 2023 but they couldn't give it to me or give me contacts and proceeds to tell me I'm wrong and don't know what I'm talking about. Will be going to speak to the manager about this because there's no god damn way a grown ass women was speaking to me, a 19 year old the way she was. I don't know who decided to piss in her soup but the fact vision works has stopped to this level of employement is beyond me. Will not be returning and do not recommend anyone else go here either. They will lose your files, lose your records, and then proceed to blame you for their short coming. read more

Well this place wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.... Felt like I was rushed to get my appointment done as I had a lot of questions and concerns about what's going on with me. Also didn't like the fact that I had to speak to eye doctors etc through a television screen because they kept cutting in and out and had to keep asking what they said... Then there's the fact that I had to refer myself to a specialist in niskayuna to be seen... What do your secretaries/customer service representatives get paid for then if I have to do their job? My trip to Visionworks was a total "Hail Mary" to use up insurance benefits and redeem a rebate about a day before they expired. And I didn't have my insurance info with me. And I'm from out-of-town (only visiting for the holidays). With just a printout of a recent prescription from my regular eye doctor, the staff at Visionworks did all the rest. In less than an hour. On a Friday night. And their whole team was friendly and professional. All in all, a great experience. Your costs will vary, of course, but the most amazing part was that, between my insurance coverage and the rebate, the entire transaction cost me less than nothing. Recommended. read more

Tele-med only here. No doctor or technician on site. All done through telemed! Technician couldn't get the optical equipment to work via remote. Kept asking what I saw, I couldn't see anything because he didn't have the lenses working properly! No more visits here! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever encountered anywhere. The young woman at the front desk was rude. She clearly didn't want to be at work and was taking it out on every potential customer who had the misfortune of coming in. I'll never go to any Visionworks again. read more

Nobody answers the phone. No one happy with there job. Some employees never get off there butts. One employee well nourished just rolled around in his chair. We got no hello, or thanks for coming and buying our products. From your ratings, whole staff should be let go and start over. This store in Glenville is giving your business a big BLACK EYE. read more

Multiple attempts to get in for appts... disorganized system and records. DO NOT BOOK ONLINE... those sometimes don't come through. We come in, no appt in book. Come back, the doctor wasn't here and they can't take us. Come back again, they had wrong insurance infornation, so they didn't get pre-authorities done. We had to wait again while they called insurance and was placed on hold for 20 minutes. My son had to wait 4 weeks to get contacts because there was no one to give the "class". Once scheduled, I took time off work to bring him, and they didn't have my appt in the system. Again. tgey are understaffed, which we all know is a consequence of the pandemic, but the misfiled and confused records and problems getting an appt is a huge issue here. read more

This was literally the worst experience I have ever had in customer service! The staff was incompetent and rude. It took over 2 months to get contacts and I had to wait a long time each visit. At my last visit I waited over 45 minutes for the doctor to show up. I will never come here again and I will tell everyone I see to avoid this store as well. read more

I'm not sure of his name but he had a horrible attitude from the second he called me into his office, was rushing, clearly did not care about me as a patient and probably just wanted to get through as many patients as possible. I said I wasn't sure if I wanted a certain procedure done (because I'm not familiar with the procedure and wanted him to explain what it was) and he turned to me with an annoyed look and said "so is that a yes or a no?". I have not a single positive thing to say about him and I hope that he finds happiness in his life or in another occupation. Other than that, every other staff member I came in contact with was friendly and personable. read more

I damaged my frames and knocked out a lens. The young lady that helped be knew what she was doing. She, in short order, inserted the lens and straightened the frames. Her first attempt was successful and I was on my way in short order. read more

Tried to get an emergency appointment. They wouldn't listen to me and made me wait 4 weeks. I had to wait because I needed the referral to see an ophthalmologist. Turned out it was a "remote exam" the optometrist was even on site. The doctor couldn't even look in my eyes. Total waste of time and money. Will never return there. Vision works reply stated they were sorry and would have "upper management" look into it. Never heard back. Insurance company no help because vision works won't return payment so I'm out an eye exam this year. Total bait and switch and no one cares. Will never do business with any vision works store in any way ever. they are a total scam read more

It only took about 30 minutes total for my fiancé to order his glasses and most of that time he was picking out a frame. The optician was knowledgable of our insurance benefits and made the transaction go smoothly. This location has a lens lab onsite and despite him having a difficult astigmatism, the store had his prescription in stock and lenses were ready in a little over an hour! He loves his new glasses and can see well in them. read more

The store was understaffed and running late plus the guy up front was kind of rude. However the guy who helps the optometrist was really nice and the optometrist was also professional. Compared to the niskayuna location this place is a 100 times better. read more

I would have rated my visit a ZERO, but 1 STAR was lowest I could rate it. I have been a patient for many-years of the same doctor at Visonworks. I made my appointment with the person on the phone better than a month prior, specifically requesting the doctor I regularly saw. I received a reminder call a few days prior to the appointment date and even asked on that call that my appointment was with the doctor I requested - response was yes, see you in a few days. I promptly arrived as scheduled and the receptionist informed me as I walked in that I would be having a remote tele-visit that day with the doctor. Soon I learned they had a new system in place. This appointment quickly turned into a "nightmare" and the worst I have ever experienced. I was called in by a young lady who addressed me instead of by my name, but as "hon", "love" and "sweetie" - something I was not very pleased with. Escorting me into the back area for preliminary screenings, there would also be an additional new screening device added. It was with this new device during testing, the technician told me my eyelashes were getting in the way of the pictures she was attempting to record. She asked that I relax as she left the area, returning, she brought with her a "scotch tape dispenser" and taped my lashes to the top of my eye lid. "REALLY!" Preliminary tests now complete, tape removed from my lashes and lid, I was escorted with a "follow me sweetie" to an examination room, where I was hoping to find my regular doctor instead found two large monitors mounted directly in front of me on the wall. Again I asked, and again I was told I would be having a remote tele-visit that day. The first person to come on-screen was to perform my vision testing - remotely! I clearly stated this was not what I was expecting and asked when I would see my requested doctor. During this exam procedure, the device in front of me continued moving away, I reported both steamy vision and seeing double letter images, falling on deaf ears, the device in front of me kept moving away as I pressed my head against it. I stopped several times during this testing asking specifically what happen to my requested doctor, I did not appreciate this new system, and all I heard from the technician in the room and the person on the screen was how "the doctor" would be joining me shortly. Upon completing the initial eye (refraction) exam, I asked how my vision was, only to be told they could not discuss it with me - I had to wait for the "doctor" - they were my eyes after all, why not? Waiting a bit more in disgust with this new system, one of the large monitors opens and yet another person who I had never met said she was my doctor! Sorry, but my doctor was not a woman. So, was I displeased, YES, you bet! Are they bait and switching to keep people coming to this business, ABSOLUTELY! If they had told me, as well as other patients I saw that day and the day I picked up my new glasses from this new procedure, I like others would have sought alternate arrangements. Sorry "hon" "love" "sweetie", and your tele-visit remote people, I will NEVER, EVER set foot into one of your facilities. Its your fault for not being forthcoming that you alienated me, my family who were lifetime customers of Visonworks! read more

Terrible experience. Was told I was not able to be seen after showing up 5 minutes late but my fiancée could be seen by a tele-health optician. My appointment was cancelled and his was still on and I could be schedule the next day but not five minutes late? On top of that Rude and unprofessional experience. Needless to say, I will be shopping around for a new eye doctor and won't be a customer of Vision Works any longer. We were going to probably purchase at least 4 new eye glasses. read more

Please do NOT get your eyes examined here. I was charged for a dilation procedure on their Optos machine. Andrew Gutmaker, the supposed physician could not read the film properly and clearly did not know how to operate it. He could not interpret areas on the film...put me in a stressful position right before traveling and flying, not knowing whether I had a serious issue with my retinas or not and he clearly did not care. The real opthamologist I went to knew exactly what the areas were immediately and said Gutmaker clearly should have known. He is rude and curt and makes you feel like you are wasting his time - he has no bedside manner of any kind. My son had the same test - he never got charged and then they said they had no record of his results from this test on file?? They clearly do no know what they are doing and lack training on the equipment they have. Refunding all charges does not fix this issue when you are still incompetent and can't be trusted because other customers are at the same risk. Your eyes and you deserve better. read more

I just read the various not-so-great reviews posted and, prior to my appointment yesterday (10/21/2021), I would have largely agreed. HOWEVER, this appointment, hands down, was THE BEST eye exam with the kindest, most caring, and helpful staff that I have EVER had. I don't say this casually as I've been a daily wearer of contact lenses for more than 40 years and have had many, many positive and negative experiences. BUT, this time, Visionworks in Glenville, NY absolutely ROCKED! My vision has significantly changed in the past two years or so and I've been all around town getting care, including second (and third) opinions with ophthalmologists. Each time, I was either over-corrected or under-corrected and given a follow-up for next year, even though I couldn't see well enough to do my work, drive, watch tv, etc. THAT WAS PRIOR TO YESTERDAY, when I had the pleasure and expertise of Dr. Michelle Hall, Renee (who is an absolute sweetheart who couldn't do enough for me), Leroy and Lisa. There is also another awesome, super friendly lady in the front and, I'm sorry, that I don't know her name because she's terrific too. I think this is only the second yelp review I've ever posted (honestly) but given the service, attention, skill and care that I received from the entire staff yesterday, they really deserve it. Even if you haven't been thrilled in the past, you should give them another try. You won't regret it. Completely, 100% positive. No way it could have gone better. And I can actually see now! I was very upset when I left this place. They were all very rude and nasty towards me. I work in the customer service field so I know how you treat customers. When I walked in, I was not greeted; I was gauked at like a deer in headlights. Instead, they all were sitting around complaining about your new computer systems. Finally, after a minute of standing and waiting, I was asked if they could help me. When I told them I had an appointment scheduled, the woman with red short hair and glasses repeated the same questions she asked me when I called to schedule an appointment. Then, she told me that there was no record of my name inside for an appointment when really she was the one who scheduled my appointment. After 5-10 minutes of my time wasted, I was told that my insurance wouldn't cover my appointment until next year. I asked the lady if she was serious and in a nasty attitude she replied and I quote "I'm dead serious." I was shocked when she responded in such a manner. Finally, I asked when was my last appointment was, she responded with it was last year. You could clearly see stupidity, laziness, and disrespect at this location. I was very disappointed in this and I will not be returning to this location. read more
