Saturday my cat was dying, and they did everything that they could to save him but his body was to weak and he died. Let me tell you the heartbreak at that moment I felt they felt it too. They loved my cat even though they barely knew him, they cried with me and did not rush me out and let me take as long as I wanted to say goodbye to him. They have paw prints mold they made us with some of his hair and whiskers so we can always have a piece of him with us. However, since his absence, the place has gone down hill and the staff ruder and more inflexible than ever. My 11 yr old black lab retriever was extremely sick and we weren't sure she'd make it through the night. Called Dumont in the morning, and they had no interest in trying to accommodate despite years as a customer, even as an emergency. Called VCA Closter Animal Hospital as a back up and they were INCREDIBLE. Polite, friendly, concerned staff. Didn't mind reaching out to Dumont for records. Saw us within 2 hours. Dr Michael Maida is an astonishingly good vet, knowledgeable caring and not pushy. Gave us our options and his recommendation to do less rather than more. Thankfully all turned out great and the bill was not terrible for an emergency visit. For some reason I had decided not to use them years ago and wish I'd thought it through. They were wonderful and treated both me and my dog with care and tenderness. They charged only $367. (less than half) The services being received were identical Euthanasia and simple cremation. I am not sure how 2 vets in the same county can come up with such widely different prices. (basically, one town over) My suspicion is that my (former) regular vet knows that we are weak in these moments and are ripe for paying an exorbitant charge without arguing. I would never go back there again.

The facility is very nice and clean. Welcoming, for sure. The front desk ladies were nice. The doctor and his assistant were fantastic with handling my dog (she's quite anxious as well). For the first time, I didn't see her put up a fight! This visit was much cheaper than my previous doctor visits at her old doctor. Not only that but the doc explained everything as he was examining her. I was happy when he gave me things to help treat Venus' infection instead of just saying it's "normal" and nothing to worry about. I'm glad I trusted my gut. Most recently, I saw Dr. Lotus Altholtz, who was very kind and gentle to my 2 nervous cats (though my cats might complain that she wants me to cut back on their treats a bit). The biggest stars though, are the assistants (nurses ?) who help keep my 2 calm and on the table during exams. They are all very friendly, and help put both my cats and me, a very nervous first time cat owner, at ease. Sometimes appointment waits run a little long, but its a small price to pay, and they are certainly more timely than any of my doctors! I would definitely recommend using them as your vet!
