Needed to have repairs done on a WORKING Technics 1200-MK2 turntable that had an issue with the tonearm height lock being stuck. The turntable is rough around the edges and has noticeable wear from heavy use, but it works completely fine and has no mechanical issues beside the issue I mentioned above and that it's missing a couple screws in the base. I also disassembled it prior but was not comfortable trying to repair it myself so took it and drove all the way out from Temecula to Vista Electronics to have it fixed. I was greeted by the shop's owner (Terry) who was a friendly and knowledgeable guy. Terry was confident that he could repair it and charged me the $120 diagnostic fee, which I was fine with. I drive about an hour back to Temecula and receive a call from Terry saying that this turntable is a "basket case" and that he didn't feel comfortable repairing it based off it's rough look. I thought that was pretty strange considering these turntables have a legendary status among DJs as being one of, if not the most solidly built turntables on the market since the 70's and this one was completely fine mechanically. But I guess since they "looked" too beat up to Terry, he was not comfortable repairing them and charged me $20 for "inspecting" them. However, I don't think much "inspecting" happened being that his only issue with it, was its rough appearance. One would think an electronic repair man would be used to seeing equipment that's a bit scratched, dented or beat up but I guess this one is an exception. Anyway, a lesson was learned that day and I took my equipment elsewhere and I'd suggest you do the same. **UPDATE** I updated my review from 2 stars to 4 because Terry refunded me the $20, which was a nice gesture. However, I am still left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because I had driven quite a distance only to be turned down for what I think is something that is repairable. Also, i'm in no way out to slander Vista Electronics over $20. I just want all future customers to receive better treatment than I did. read more

I'm afraid my review is less than stellar. I told Terry that the remote was not working with my receiver though it operated other equipment. Terry lent me a different remote to try which I configured to operate my tv but would not work the receiver in any configuration. Terry said to bring in the receiver and I paid $80 for diagnosis (and perhaps repair). After one day, Terry told me he could not identify the fault and that the unit would not work with a remote, which I already knew. He had no solution except to recommend another technician. So $80 for "cleaning" and a diagnosis which diagnosed nothing. I am no further forward except not to trust any experts with this unit. Situated on a side street right off Main St here in Vista, the location is easy to miss, so just look for the convenient yellow loading zone right in front of their colorfully painted exterior. You can always call or email Terry and his team I found out as well. Terry really knows his stuff...and most importantly he is honest. I acquired a TV as a gift and didn't want to spend much money to have it repaired. Terry was able to work within my budget to diagnose the TV and get me all the info quickly. Terry fixed my 2011 dvd/vcr recorder-player which died with a vhs tape stuck in it when I moved it to a different outlet in my house. I couldn't find a replacement for either the machine or the tape - not sure they make either of them anymore - and I couldn't get the tape to eject or remove it manually by opening the box. Terry retrieved the stuck tape in working condition and repaired the dead machine. It now works like a dream and the old vhs tape does too. I couldn't be more pleased. The job required one replacement capacitor and cost $160 total, including the $60 diagnostic. read more

I called this shop cause my 5 yr old Sony Bravia TV was not working. It had vertical lines on screen. Terry said he thought he knew which card had failed and made a "deal" with me on the phone to either 1) fix it for $80 or 2) keep old tv for no charge. When I sent my hubby to drop it off he charged him $80 and a few days later left a message saying the TV was unrepairable because he could not get the needed circuit board. It took me a couple weeks to get around to it, but I did a search online and found the circuit board pretty easily. This made me wonder. Then I got a copy of the invoice in the mail where he'd charged my husband. Perhaps he just forgot our "deal". So I called Terry and he said he would "find" my TV and check it out, that he'd just cleaned his shop. He called back a couple days later and said it wasn't the card he thought it was and really the TV was unrepairable. Hum, he then offered to refund half the money we paid. Well this wasn't the deal we made over the phone, and I really wanted the TV repaired, but I "settled" for $40 bucks. Short story is I had to buy a new TV. read more

First, don't ever buy televisions from Best Buy, from now on I will only buy from COSTCO. That's another story. One screen was distorted and Green and the other set would turn off and on by itself. Terry was very helpful in fixing our TV. We considered replacing it but after talking with him he said he would go through the entire TV and be able to diagnose the issue for a very reasonable cost. Our TV went out Monday in our community clubhouse. It was only 5 years old so we called Terry to see if he could fix it. Over the phone he already new what was wrong with it. Several weeks ago I called Vista Electronics for help with an old Samsung Smart TV. Terry answered the phone and was extremely helpful... I even think it was outside of business hours he picked up the phone! He gave me some troubleshooting advice over the phone. Since my large TV is mounted on the wall I had to wait for someone to help take it down for us. Many days later when we finally got it down, I followed Terry's advice and did some troubleshooting. I even called him ahead of time to see if he would be available to take in the TV in case we couldn't get to the bottom of it. It was without hesitation that he was willing to accommodate that and work around our situation that day. Turns out his troubleshooting advice over the phone helped us get the TV running again and we ended up not having to take it in. I am glad it's working now... but actually kinda bummed we didn't get to meet this wonderful, kind professional who took the time to help us solve our problem. It is hard to find people who are willing to provide exemplary service and really take the time to listen to customers. In fact, you don't find people who do business like that anymore. My HDTV was having an issue of not having the picture come on at startup. So after reading several reviews online...I decided to give Vista Electronics a call. I spoke with Terry...who has 30 years of "hands-on" experience. He and his associate picked up my LG television at around 12:45pm and returned my set back at 2:30pm. Apparently, it was four 10 volt capacitors that were bad. He gave me the old parts...and installed four "new" 25 volt capacitors...and now my TV is up and running with a dynomite picture. (Oh, for you seniors) Terry is very reasonable and did not exceed his estimate! If I need any other electronic help in the future...I will be using Vista Electronics in a heart beat. If I had to sum this place up with only saying one word, "Genuine"would have to be it. An old fashioned genuine person runs this old shop. The shop is almost easy to miss. I took my four year old Sony 40" LCD with built in Bluray DVD player in because it would cycle on and off over and over again. I paid an $80 trouble shooting fee and an hour later he called me to say it was fixed. I hadn't even made it home yet when he called, so I did a u turn and went back. He said I didn't owe any more money. The TV is working great. Aside from the TV working great, is what impressed me the most was the impression you get from the owner that works alone in there. Today I turned on my TV and soon after in the middle of watching something, the screen just went black but I still had audio. It's a newer Samsung 50" LED that I bought from my Dad before they moved which kind of shocked me. The TV isn't that old and I've never had a problem with it. Well after doing some research online all faults were pointing to the T-Con board (T500HVN09.1 50T26-C03). Had lights in the back of TV when on and remember the audio worked fine when the screen went black. I had no idea what local shops would cost to replace or repair this so of course looked on Yelp for local shops with best ratings. When I called Terry he asked for the model # and such and told me would call me back within 10 minutes, which he did. And with that, I'm only giving 2 stars instead of 1. The reason? Well he tells me the board will cost $100 and the labor is $80 to put it in. Now I don't own a shop or been repairing tvs for 30 years but I'm quite savvy when it comes to troubleshooting anything (it's my job to do so, being a Communications technician/splicer) and after looking online and a few youtube videos quickly discovered this was quite doable. It took me 5 minutes to take off cover, isolate the T-Con board, remove it, and order a new one on Ebay for $25. I'll get it within the week. Now I'm all for supporting local businesses, I do it all the time. But for $180 you want me to bring my TV to you, while you order the part, put the card in which takes 5 minutes if that, then come back and pick it up in who knows how many days? Sir, for that price you should come pick up my TV, if not repair it here, drop it off when it's fixed, and re-mount it to the fricken wall. Netting $155 for (at most) a 10 minute repair is ridiculous. I didn't ask for legal advice, I asked for a new board. If you have money to blow people, see Terry, otherwise, for another $180 you can buy a new TV. Thanks, but no thanks. read more
