(I suppose trains like this stay this clean and pristine because San Diego hasn't got Chicago's awful weather). I took the Coaster to Old Town to meet a friend for dinner before I went to the airport on my way out of town. Service operates primarily during weekday peak periods, but there is also limited weekday midday, Friday evening, and Saturday service. Special evening service is provided when the San Diego Padres play Monday-Thursday evening home games. The only thing that bugged me is there was no one to collect the ticket I bought at the station before boarding. This was 100% honor system, and I suspect it's widely abused to the disadvantage of the transit authority, but maybe they save more money than they lose this way by not employing conductors.

It has a single side platform for the single set of tracks that go through Carlsbad. Overall, I think this is a very nice station. North County Transit District buses also stop here, most importantly in my book, Route 101 that runs on Historic 101 between Oceanside and UTC in La Jolla. There are over 400 parking spaces at the station, which is a short walk to restaurants, coffee shops, retail shops, and more. The Carlsbad Village station is not the historic Carlsbad station that was used by Santa Fe Railroad until 1960. That station still stands about 1/10th of a mile south.

We paid $32.50 in cash for round trip tickets for 2 adults and 1 child, easily accessible via the vending machine and not too difficult to understand. The ride itself felt smooth and was a nice scenic route to see sights such as the Del Mar Racetrack and of course, the Pacific Ocean (be sure to sit on the right side for a better view). Seats were not too bad, even had rows facing sideways available and appeared clean. The train passengers seemed nice and I didn't feel too uneasy, it was a comfortable train ride, felt like we were coasting on the Coaster.

When I had arrived the walk through the city and the main street of Highway 101 there were many places rundown and the parks you would see of the many migrants. The Coaster station is only one track with two tracks that one waits the other passes for the station is not one you be after hours. The few restaurants nearby for the main street of of the city finding that the restaurBtz and the stores have been found selling alcohol to underage the sale of fentanyl the dangerous illegal drug . The train station they do have many of the buses that take you up into the many of Oceanside and the connection with the 101 that takes you back to UTC Mall in Lajolla. The security was of the police that were patrolling up and down the main street for the station there is no security for the terminal. Travel to the many stations you will find many of the buses with the security of the stations needs to have business people traveling. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer from the many places I have traveled to is the need for security at the station seeing the illegal activities and the use of alcohol near by. Encinitas Coaster Station. I have lived here many years but only taken the Coaster a handful of times…read more I was going down to Petco park for a Padres game and decided to give it a try. It is about an hour from Oceanside to the San Diego Santa Fe depot (about 20 minutes more than driving by car at 1030 am). There was an option for a day pass for $15 to take the Coaster down and back, but also to be able to use the Trolley as well. That was a good deal. Avoid a ticket and tap your Pronto card everytime you get on to a train or trolley. You get down to the Santa Fe Depot and you walk over to the trolley line and take the green or blue, green has less stops and it only takes like 10-14 minutes. The conductors do come by to check your tickets, so just make sure you tap your Pronto card everytime you get on to a train or trolley. I was able to leave the game with 2 outs to go and run to the trolley which was running late, and at about 407 got us over to the Santa Fe depot at 418 and we had to run to the Coaster that was leaving at 420 but we made it, even when I stopped to tap my pronto card. Although, I had ridden it 2 days previously, and the Wi-Fi was out then also, on my next ride, I asked the conductor and he acted as if he wasn't aware of that and would report it. Also, at least 1/2 the bathrooms were out of order. That's a problem. I hope that's not a sign of deterioration.

This stop has ample parking right at the corner of Rancho del Oro and Oceanside Blvd. they have a covered area to buy tickets and a porta potty if needed. They also have bike lockers. Let's all think of ways to reduce our carbon footprint and take public transportation!

I absolutely love public transportation! If you're disabled, you can take your disabled placard…read morereceipt, an award letter from SSI, or a Medi-care card (not Medi-cal), or you can pick up a form at the Oceanside Transit Center - they may even have them on their website - and have your doctor fill it out. You can get a Compass card with your picture on it, which is good until the expiration date on your disabled placard (you just need to renew more often), three years after the date shown on the disability award letter...OR for three years from the date on your doctor's letter. You can get a monthly transit pass for $18, which allows unlimited rides on any Breeze bus, the Sprinter, and any of the buses anywhere in the San Diego area. You can also use it to obtain a round trip ticket to San Diego and back to Oceanside for only $5 (which makes day trips down to Old Town super fun and cheap...wi hour traffic! Students can also get a discounted pass for a very reasonable price. I love the Rancho Del Oro station, because you can park in a big, well-lit parking lot and take the Sprinter to Escondido. It's a little out of the way too, so you're not having to deal with a lot of cross traffic. We've got a great transit system here in San Diego county, and as long as you're honest (Transit police aren't always on the Sprinter to check your pass, but they make surprise checks, and the fine is NOT worth the gamble!), it's really easy to navigate your way around the whole county for very little money. It's a great way to show your little ones the way public transport works, and who doesn't love buses and trains?!? Come on...it's a TRAIN! If you're on at the right time, you might pass another one headed the opposite direction too. Super awesome! The automated voice on the Sprinter is English, which kind of makes me giggle, but my son adores it. We're lucky to live by a line that runs from the Oceanside Transit Center to the Vista Transit Center. Both allow close proximity to tons of things to do. Another benefit to having disabled access is that you can use the little buses that come your curb and allow you to get to places you would have to walk far from a proper stop to get to. It's cheaper than Uber and definitely less than a cab. If you ride even one way daily, a disabled pass can pay for itself - you don't have to pay to load it for a month. A day pass for unlimited rides is $2.50 with a disabled card, and you can take a bus one way for less than $1. (Think it's 85 cents, if I remember correctly). The drivers on the Breeze will lower the step for those with mobility issues, and both the Breeze and Sprinter allow you to bring your bike with you, in case you want to go somewhere out of the way. It's easy to navigate the website, the Transit Center is open until 5pm weekdays to get passes or papers, and best of all...you don't have to drive! It's a cheap way to entertain a bored kiddo, get to the beach from the East side of North County, and the Transit Center is very close to downtown Oceanside...where they have a Farmer's Market and Sunset Market every week. Did I mention you don't have to drive? Weekends, the Sprinter runs every 30 minutes both East and West (the Coaster has some longer wait times, and it stops running earlier, the only down side to our transit system!). If you're looking for a safe place to park your car while you let someone else save you some gas and traffic, the Rancho Del Oro station is a great location. We love our transport system...coming from a big city where buses run 24/7 kind of spoiled me, but for a non-major metropolitan area, it's one of the best transit systems I've seen since I lived in NorCal. Take a Sprinter. Catch the Breeze. See some cool scenery, and minimize your carbon footprint. If you've got disabilities, this is one of the best transit prices you'll find. They're very disability friendly. Just don't train hop, because the fines are likely why they can afford to keep the prices so low, haha! ;) If you see me around, feel free to say hi.
