This is the worst transit system purchasing process I've seen in all my travels in the US and around the globe. The app sucks. It's unclear that every person has to have the own app downloaded to purchase tickets, even though the app ask how many tickets you want to purchase, which I did for from my family. When you reach out to customer experience team and you provide all the documentation and information. They just decline you a couple weeks later and say too bad. The customer experience team does not care about customers or your experience and they're a complete joke. Andy Untalan is the manager of customer experience and should be ashamed of the service he provides. I would suggest that you never ride the NCTD and give them any business. By doing this, their business will continue to go down and many of the worthless people that work there will lose their job since they have no revenue stream. read more

I am not a regular user of public transportation. I pretty much drive everywhere... typical Californian. Once a year, I do a training run that I call the "train run", which is a lovely run along the 101 from Oceanside to Solana Beach. For that reason, I need to take the train one way and leave my car at the other stop. Each year, I enjoy this train ride. I typically go in mid-morning , usually on a weekday. I know my experience may be better than some, as it is not a crowded time, and I always have a couple seats to myself. Often this section of the Coaster is operated by Amtrak, but not always. The trains are always clean, and I have yet to see a disruptive individual on board. The ride is scenic and costal. I remember my one-way ticket cost $5, though no one has ever checked my ticket. I think my only complaint is that the past two years, the train has been a minute or two early. I have been there waiting, but it could cause some to miss the train. Also, I was comfortably seated on a bench just below the stairs at the stop, and the combination of the train being early and it not pulling up the the center part of the stop, lead to me running to get on. All in all, it is a nice way to travel and I'll be there again next year. read more

North County Transit has been one that I have traveled on many of the buses and there has been one thing that when the pandemic had come upon San Diego. In the area of the transportation Industry there is many more new advancements that will be started. . When people that come to the many of train and trolley stations there are times when you have times there are large crowds and with waiting for trains it can be crowded there have times when people have been killed walking in front of the trains and trolleys there has been one day that make people think that safety is the Number One thing. If you travel on the bus and the trolley, you must follow the safety rules and stay behind the yellow line. With the many times that the travel system takes each day to make sure each person is safe with the many places that the North County to the areas of Carlsbad and the beach areas of the ocean communities. As an Yelp Elite Reviewer there have been times I have seen drivers that gone above and beyond there have been ones which didn't want to help at all. With the many trains and the trolleys that transit between the areas of UTC and the San Ysidro it can be one of the most dangerous when you wait in the stations from one of the most horrific accidents that I have seen that had been one that when you wait for a train you stand behind the line not in front or try to stop it. From the many trolleys stations there are here in San Diego and the areas of the East County there are those that run-in front of the train. When you are at the terminals and the trolley platforms you are to have your pronto card tapped and ready to, they do check your card when you are on the train or the trolley. Trains are the largest it takes the train the longest to stop and the trolley has three cars it takes even more when it comes into the station. For the many that have never taken the San Diego Trolley, or the coaster is take the time and travel to Oceanside it does take you past the beaches and the Belly-Up Music Venue. The Coaster and the San Diego Trolley can save you so money and the gas on travel and having to locate parking with the trolley it can go through to the East County and the Fashion and the Mission Valley Shopping areas. With the many students that live here in San Diego and the Oceanside area it can be the best on the parents and to teach them the train and the trolley. read more

California is spending billions of gas tax dollars to shore up the tracks along the cliffs in Del Mar yet NCTD can't provide the minimal train service necessary to commute to a real job. In the last month they've cancelled at least three morning trains without prior notice. I give up. Back to driving. read more

I was waiting for the 353 bus today that was suppose to arrive at 6:33am. Mind you I got to the transit at 6:20am. It turns 6:34am and this bus pulls over at the 353 bus stop ... has the number 608 and clearly states "Solana" bus goes and I start noticing the time 645am I go towards the "information center" CLOSED! Nobody in sight to even ask if there was an issue with the bus I was waiting for or even a sign explain an issue. So I waited until I saw another bus driver meanwhile I didnt expect much but yet maybe a better response... I asked nicely excuse me sir I know you might not but just curious by any chance do you kno where the 353 bus... Cuts me off and points the bus is that way looks at me like if I was *STUPID*. I said no im sorry I know my question was do do you kno if 353 bus is having issues or out service today. Answer yea not sure maybe ask information center. I said yes they are closed walks away and goes into the lil room they have and says "FIRST I HEARD OF THIS" and closes door. Now mind you im walking around figuring if maybe there was a different stop at this point it's 7ish I waited until 733am next bus yet did show up displaying the bus number 353 going towards Citracado. I let everyone go before me and asked the drive nicely hey by any chance is this every 1hr or 2? He said yea basically something like that . I said the reason why im asking is I been here since 620am and no bus showed up his response was well idk what to tell you I was here at 633am. I said maybe yu were the one that showed up with the 308 display sayin yu were going towards Solana he stayed quiet and said idk. And waited for me to finish paying. I guess now that you to the bus you gotta make sure you ask even if the number on the bus displays 351 make sure its not the 354 bus... What I learned is ask before you get on the bus to make sure they aint takin yu else where or make sure to notify work because you take public transportation you will always be late because you never kno what bus you will be takin. read more

The bus driver got out of her seat and aggressively approached me in the ADA seating area. I am in the process of filing a complaint to NCTD. I have requested video footage of the incident. I want to see if NCTD will make efforts to cover it up or if they will accept responsibility of their driver and her aggressive behavior. This is completely out of line and unprofessional. My friend came to visit me in San Diego for Christmas 2021. I was so proud of our new trolley, UCSD Blue Line. We went, on the trolley and buses, to Old Town and Point Loma. At the end of the day we arrived at Old Town station to catch the trolley home. I tapped the first Pronto validator I encountered after coming out of the underground tunnel. Before I realized my card had been charged for a Coaster ride ($3.25), my friend tapped the same validator. The Pronto validators at Old Town station are the same, for both the trolley and the Coaster. When you tap, the machine doesn't ask if you want the trolley or the Coaster. I have been asking NCTD to refund the $6.50 for almost a month. They say I was to read a sign they put UNDER the validator, which only says "Coaster, Tap on and Tap off.". When a trolley or train is coming does one start searching signs? This validator does not have a prominent sign on top, next to the display, to indicate it is for Coaster ONLY. It has a sign on the ground, which merely says the validator may be used for the Coaster. It is wrong for NCTD to be misleading, even if unintentional, and especially to fail to admit that when so clearly evident, to correct the error when pointed out, and to be responsible for the consequences. read more

We don't have a good transit system here in San Diego I've been calling for days to try to find out the trick that they have set up for residents to use the train to get to the San Diego Fair which is the Del Mar Fair I had to devote my whole day to sitting on the phone and not getting anybody to answer and then finally it's 6:15 p.m. and somebody has answered and they told me the strange trick to try to get the ticket to ride the coaster sprinter whatever you want to call it to Solana Beach... If I would not have called to find out the exact strange trick to buy the ticket then I would have never known, I feel sorry for all the residents in San Diego having to put up with this awful train station Old Town with many broken machines having us trapzs all over Old Town trolley station to try to get these strange tickets at only some odd specific machines read more

Your customer service representatives are ass, they have no idea what they are doing and are completely unhelpful. You will almost never get to work on time because they don't know how to run the busses on time. They are either understaffed or just plain insufficient at running the system professionally. They have been late 4 time in less than a week - twice was over 30 minutes. This is a VERY COMMON pattern of theirs. So is passing you by and not picking you up at all when they are late, even while waving your hands AT THE BUS STOP, and they still pass you by! Plus, they only run every 30 minutes weekdays and every hour on the weekends and holidays. That is ridiculous. Having a last run at only 9 - 10 PM, depending, is ridiculous, too. Most major cities are on a 15 - 30 min run till at least midnight, and sometimes 1AM. They also dont have enough routes. On top of that, there is nowhere to sit at the stops, so I guess they don't care about the tired, elderly, pregnant, or disabled. And there is no shade from the elements, so you have to sit with the hot sun bearing down on you! Also, no all-day passes anymore. So it looks like Uber will be getting my money from now on. It's worth it to me to pay a little bit extra for Uber or Lyft to know that I will be able to keep my job and ride in comfort because Uber and Lyft will get me there in time. I won't go back to using the bus, not unless they find a way to actually run the busses as proficient as the rest of all of the major US cities (and I've lived in several and visited most!) and not some county fair bus system or 3rd world country. Until then, it's Uber or Lyft for me! read more

Bought 2 roundtrip tickets yesterday for $26 and after purchasing at kiosk an employee notifies us the coaster isn't running this weekend. We ask if there's a way to get credit to use the tickets in the future and are told no. We're not sure why the kiosk is even selling tickets if the coaster isn't running and the employee waits until after we purchase tickets to tell us they're useless. Disappointing experience overall and customer service wasn't any help either. read more

Was going to use lift to keep an appt, for "I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I scheduled an appt for a ride and by the time I was on the ramp outside my door the driver was gone Maybe LIFT should review the American Disability Act and realize that people with disabilities do not move as fast as people without disabilities. And by the way the LIFT driver was one half hour late to begin with. read more

I would like to thank Ed, the bus driver of the 305, who showed great patience, empathy, and humanity Monday night when I really REALLY needed to get on his bus penniless & roughly a minute late (saved by an elderly offloader) and slowed his bus down even more by having to load my bicycle. What Ed didn't know was that I was being chased by four or five thugs and he was my only escape.. it was refreshing to see somebody not bring extra drama to my situation, but instead show some compassion for someone in a bad situation and help that person however he could.. thanks again ED!!! read more

Jumped on the trolley at Old Town headed for Gaslamp. On the platform, there are nearly identical scanners for both the coaster and the trolley. In the rush to make a trolley we apparently scanned at the wrong terminal and it took $6.50 out of our account instead of the $2.50 it was supposed to be. I contacted NCTD and they said it was our fault and their policy is no refunds. If you choose to ride the trolley and there is a coaster stop at the same station, be careful where you scan or you will pay coaster fare for going somewhere the coaster doesn't even go! Disappointed and will be avoiding the coaster for future rides. read more

While I think they are some definite challenges with public transportation in San Diego, especially for my special needs adult daughter. Today I had a very positive experience with their ADAride department. My special needs adult daughter got notice that her bus pass needed a renewal (in July) but of course she became obsessed and over anxious with the fact it needed to be done. I had some difficulty with the website, so I emailed, info@adaride.com, included my phone number and within an hour I received a phone call from Art. He walked me through the application, he also extended her current expiration date 120 days and said they will reach out before the extension expiration, as with everything currently, they don't know how things will progress. I was impressed with his kindness and great customer service! read more

I called "customer service", and while the young man (Yaun?) was polite, he was not helpful and didn't listen. Was fond of telling me how they couldn't do this, or that, because he wasn't in dispatch. I would like to be hired as a CS supervisor there so I may help them improve their service! Get your shit together nctd. I have been sitting on the corner of coast highway 101 and vista way FOR THE LAST 40 MINS!!!! I usually plan on taking one bus before the time I am supposed to be there, just because the service is so gd inconsistent, but this is ridiculous!!! Not only was the 101 that was supposed to arrive at 4:45 (I got to the stop at 4:40) nonexistent but the bus that is supposed to arrive at 5:15 (getting me to work by 6) arrived at 5:30!!!! I asked the driver what was going on and if there even was a previous bus and he just shook his head and told me he only knows the bus he drives. No acknowledgement of the fact the bus was 15 mins late! UGH! I called the customer service helpline and they only told me when the next bus is going to be there on their computers, no explanation either. They need more buses, better drivers and better training. Tl;dr nctd breeze 101 is inconsistent and unreliable. read more

I am a recent victim of Obamaism, henceforth, I have lost my home of 20'something years and my vehicle has just succumbed to not being able to afford the upkeep in maintenance. Therefore, I am now at the disposal of public transit. I have purchased a month pass that allows me to ride all transits. But I just have to say that I believe the bus drivers are a bit to eager with their power behind the wheel of public transportation. Case in point: people running to the bus only to get but a few steps from the door and having the bus pull away. I have seen it before, even when I DID have a personal vehicle to drive. But I experienced it again this morning. Although it was not me running to the bus, I was walking up alongside this bus and I know the bus driver saw me. But more importantly, I KNOW he saw the man running from an opposite direction only to have the bus pull away as he was at the door. REALLY?! Must you tease so early in the morning? I know they have a schedule to keep, but that bus was there for over 5mins waiting. I know this, as I saw it as I crossed the street and headed to the bus stop. Luckily I was not in a hurry and there was another bus coming soon after. But to have to see commuters run and then be turned away as they're huffing & puffing is just not right. A few seconds (we're talking seconds here, not minutes) more would not have made anyone late. read more

NCTD really cleaned up their act and got really super nice buses for the riders to travel around on. nice air conditioned buses seems to travel at light speed on their routes around the north county areas. I rode the 304/404 bus line when I had to go to school at palomar and I didn't have a car yet. I must say, this was the best way to travel around town and get from point A to point B without paying a butt-load of green. I must say, since I stopped riding the bus, they have raised their prices and offered more options to riding the bus lines. they get minus one star for their lack of locations. I had to do a nice 20 minute hike to the closest bus stop location with my school books and such. read more

NCTD hates disabled people. With all the proper ADA Disabled Credentials and official NCTD Bus Pass hanging around my neck, I boarded the 315 Bus on Friday, June 22, at 10:50am. The driver of Bus Number 2502 would not accept my Valid NCTD Pass and denied me service. After explaining to him many times that this is a valid pass, he said I still have to pay or get off. As the discussion continued he decided to turn off the bus and go sit on the bus bench. While still on the bus I called NCTD I called and spoke to Andy the Customer Service Supervisor. He verified over the phone that my pass is valid and said the driver is wrong. Andy said he would try to contact the driver, but after waiting 20 minutes he never did, so I got off. The driver got back on a left without me and I had to wait for another bus. The reason I think NCTD hates Disabled People is... This bus driver was extremely rude. Andy said he would call me back but never did. I over heard drivers complain about how they hate picking up wheelchairs. read more

A 5-start review, as the previous reviewer before mine, is what NCTD wants -- at this COVID-19 time. But I won't give it. Not will all these changes of reduction in service given. Add to the 2 extreme differences in managements of NCTD vs MTS transit systems. Besides, NCTD is in the more conservative region of San Diego County --- to ride public transporation. (contrasted differences to) NCTD vs MTS marketing is of too much. Same to political presentation. ETC. Go to public meetings, and you will understand what I talk about. read more

Ever time I use this agency something happens! Either they dont show up (the bus) at the right time and it's too early to call the office or the operator doesn't even know what direction they are going and gives the wrong info! To add to that, now here is the sweetest part, the telegraph operators are always rude like my compant isn't even worth thier time! I rarely take the bus anymore and for good reason it always smells and is filthy in them. I hope this helps you because you wont get it from Nctd. read more

My teenage daughter went in to get some advice on *The Lift* she is unfamiliar with public transportation so she went to get info on what's best for her. The lady "Maria" explained the lift can take you to any address just give them a ticket. So my daughter wanted to buy 3 tickets. Maria said you can only buy a booklet of 10 tickets for $35.00 my daughter had to walk all the way back home to get more money then came back & bought the tickets from Maria. She got home & called the lift to schedule the pick up. The lady who answered for The Lift asked did you already fill out your disability application & have your doctor's note? My daughter said I'm not disabled?? The lady said you can't use the tickets then. My daughter then walked back up to the NCTD store & asked Maria why would you sell me these when I'm not disabled when I told you they were for me??? Maria just laughed & said oh I thought you were buying them for your grandparents. Here fill out this form & we can refund your money by check in the mail in 2 weeks. wow really? ? So what is she supposed to do in the meantime for 2 weeks? You took her money for her transportation! Then you took her receipt from the purchase and didnt give her a copy of the form or a new receipt or any kind of proof she gave you back the booklet. Knowing she wasn't knowledgeable and asking for advice I would think you would have given proper advice instead of causing such inconveniences for her. I'd advise some proper training in customer service might help & this mistake doesn't happen in the future. read more
