I have seen DeAnn Holexa at Visual Effects twice now and she does a fantastic job. She has been a massage therapist here since 2007 and her experience really shows. She focuses on the areas that need the most work and I left feeling relaxed and refreshed both times. The massage room is wonderful with great music, soothing scents, and soft low lighting that immediately puts you at ease. She even has a special pillow for extra chest support, which makes the massage especially comfortable for those of us who need it. It's such a thoughtful touch. The prices are very reasonable. I believe it was about $75 for an hour massage, but I had a gift certificate, so don't quote me on that exact price. The salon itself is very modern and clean. It is tucked away behind some fast food restaurants, so you might not even realize it is there, but once you do, you will be glad you found it. In addition to massage, they offer a wide variety of services like hair, lash extensions, nails, brow tattoo, waxing, and more. Rachelle Moore is excellent at permanent make-up. Or so I think. I have seen her images and it appears she has vast experience and a very precise hand in applying the pigment. However, she fired me as a client before I had the micro-needling procedure I waited weeks to have. My nightgown caught on fire when I was 5 years old. All my life I've been ashamed to wear shorts since I have burn scars on my upper legs. I was so excited to have their appearance reduced! I had a date with my boyfriend after the procedure so I texted Rachelle to ask if I could have sex or if the area would be too sore. She responded it would be open wounds but not oozy & messy. I joked that I guess I could just wear pantyhose to protect the skin. I actually thought that was a good idea. Her response shocked me. She said "I'm going to cancel your appointment for Friday...I think it would be best for you to find another salon...I was really bothered by your texts yesterday." I called her immediately of course and left a voicemail apologizing for offending her (although I couldn't imagine what I had said that would be offensive). I also texted the same and explained why I was being so cautious (an infection on a similar procedure in the past) and wanting more info. on a procedure I'd never had. She didn't respond until I sent another text. Then she insisted that she did not wish to work with me. I shared the text exchange with a friend and she found nothing offensive. We're grown-ups. Sex sometimes comes up in medi-spa type procedures. I said nothing inappropriate or graphic. Either Rachelle should move to Amish country where they don't even say the word sex or perhaps she actually canceled the appointment to make room for one of her regulars since she knows I'm moving away and won't be a regular. My mother purchased over $1,200 worth of laser hair treatments as a gift for me. After the first three treatments, the laser left unsightly burns on my bikini area. This was back in 2012, and I still have marks due to the misuse of the laser. Lori, one of the top estheticians, assured me that she would make it right and that the hair would reduce quite a bit after she used "a new laser". After over 20 hair treatments, the hair has continued to come back with no change and I am left with the marks, as well as being $1,200 poorer. I would not recommend this salon for hair removal to anyone. read more

I've been seeing Kasey Hight (and Rachel Law when she isn't available) at Visual Effects for years and I love this place. The owner did my eyeliner tattoo after I had it done at So Posh and she messed it up. There is a coffee bar and a little stand of jewelry and scarves for sale up front and a lot of different stations for various independent contractors for hair, nails, etc. Everyone there has always been very kind and friendly! read more

I paid $215 for Microblading with Sandy Kaufman at Visual Effects and Spa. She cancelled my appointment at the last minute last month. Since then she has been ducking my calls as I have tried to reschedule. Now she claims that she no longer provides that service. She refuses to refund my money. This is outright FRAUD! read more

I absolutely love this salon. The staff is always friendly and knows me by name every time I walk in. I've gone to multiple women there depending on the service and always feel great about what I got done when I walk out. I purchased a groupon as a present for my girlfriend and they have ignored multiple requests for an appointment to get the massage done. I have contacted Groupon and they said they will only refund once the service has been completed. Well how am I supposed to get the service done if they are refusing to schedule it???!!! Now I get to go through the process of filing a claim with my bank to get the money back. Why offer a groupon if you aren't able to handle the volume of business it brings? Sandy Kaufman at Visual Effects Salon & Spa does a horrible job, she never does a call back to see if you were satisfied. the eyeliner and eyebrow liner was a joke, you can't even tell anything was done and all she did was rush so that she could get to the next customer. don't waste your money with her, pay the money with someone with experience and care. and someone who does the job right. like they say, you get what you pay for, so doing the groupon with sandy kaufman, you will just waste your money read more

I had a relative visiting from another state who wanted to get her eyebrows tattooed with permanent make-up she made the appointment had them done but noticed one wasn't quite the same as the other. My relative called and went in to speak with the lady who did her brows and was told she needed to wait 4 weeks to redo because she needed to wait until the swelling went down. The 4 weeks were over and she went back to the same lady Rachael and was then told that it was going to cost her another 75.00 on top of the 100.00 she had already paid to re do the brows. There was no compensation for the dissatisfied customer no apology either and to top it off Rachael the employee proceeded to say that she could not re touch work that someone else had already started when she was the one who started 4 weeks ago. They claim to have 14 years experience in customer service but do nothing to satisfy the customers. I was embarrassed myself to think that this is the way we treat customers from all over the world? What kind of examples are we setting , and dissatisfied people are the ones that spread the word I guess visual effects on chinden bld in Boise doesn't really need the business. read more
