They told me it was just bruising, said the biopsy was a minor procedure that couldn't have caused internal bleeding, and told me there was no need to bring her in. But my gut told me something wasn't right -- so I took her to the emergency vet. She was bleeding internally. If I had listened to DSAH and waited, my dog would have died that night. Please think twice before trusting this clinic. My experience was that they brushed off my concerns and didn't take my dog's condition seriously. Trust your instincts -- they can save your dog's life.

Her demeanor turns sour the second she realizes we're pulling up to the vet's office. Going to the vet has become a total nightmare. I even tried calling ahead to prepare them to take action when we showed up. When we arrived, I might as well have called the moon. No one was ready to help us and our dog spun out of control. After that we started looking around for a mobile vet. Enter Lone Star Pet Vet. They have a mobile service out of Lakeway and accepted us as new patients (the folks in Spicewood weren't taking on new patients). After Lone Star arrived, it took a bit for our dog to come off the ledge, barking and backing away as she does when company comes over. Unlike the vet we'd been going to, they were ready with the time, patience, and skills to let her calm down. I think she calmed down a bit easier because we were at home. It was still effortful because it took all of us to control her for shots. She still knows what the needle is for. The blood draw for heartworm was the hardest. I had to go join an online meeting while they weighed her, but I don't think that went super easy either. So don't kid yourself - if your dog doesn't like "going to the vet", this isn't profoundly different. What is different is your level of control on your animal and skipping all the waiting for the vet to drop in the room. Top it off, Kelly and Jim are such sweet people, you feel like you're working with friends. The bill was not meaningfully different than what I had been paying to schlep the dog down the road. I never thought this would be something for me, but now that we're here, Lone Star makes it an easy choice.

She was able to perform routine blood work, order prescriptions, give shots, did the routine annual exam on site. My Great Danes are usually nervous about VET visits but she left the door open and they sat down and were relaxed and well behaved; mostly due to the comforting atmosphere and skill with the animals by the staff. Dr Hunt gave all the requested services, advised me on some new considerations that are relevant to the area, we recently moved from Kansas, and we finished everything up with treats for the Danes. She followed up the visit with an email providing additional details about some basic care and concerns for the animals and a personal thank you. I stumbled across her Yelp reviews because I am about to track her down to assist with my next kitty. The recent diagnosis will allow me to make plans for this departure. At that time she was using Paws in Heaven, a pet crematorium and cemetery in Canyon Lake for the remains. Their services can include private cremations, ashes returned, paw prints and fur clippings in a pretty cedar box with a brass name plate. The folks at Paws in Heaven were amazing. The best experience ever.
