Chris Huddleston is great and so is the support staff. April is a jewel. They take great care of our dogs and cats.

Riverside Veterinary Clinic - Dahila, Dr. Meyer and Rayna

    Oltorf/East Riverside

This review is late in coming, but Dr. Meyer is the kindest, most skilled vet ever. He took…read moreincredible care of my stray-turned-love of my life, Babe, for many years until we moved north and Babe crossed the rainbow bridge at an elderly age. He was very insightful in telling me that while someone had been cruel to him, someone else had been kind to him. As it took 2 months for Babe to receive pets without flinching, I didn't bother looking for whoever abused him. Dr. Meyer taught me a lot about rehabilitating my skiddish stray into a loyal, happy dog. He was honest and supportive when I tried to rescue another stray who was not pregnant but suffering the latter stages of heart worms. Now with another dog found meandering the streets (whose owners claimed to have 'given her up 2 years ago') I'll be taking her to Dr. Meyer to help her get a healthier, happier life!

First: This office has since gone corporate. If you click on the YELP link it is not their current…read morewebsite and the peeps in the pic are not legit. You might not read my long, emotional, personal story but it could become your story. Free speech includes opinions and reviews. No one should be punished for speaking out unless they are lying and why would I lie? This WONDERFUL vet clinic turned into a blackmail machine. MANY months ago I went in with my dog Karma (not knowing that Dr. Meyers was gone). Karma had horrible ear infections (again) and her "downstairs" was like bloody leather (AGAIN). I asked over and over to stop sending me home with my girl's ears full of medical "ear goop" and a lipstick-sized tube of "doggie neosporin." I then took her to Brykerwood's only to find that bacteria had eaten her eardrums and she would never hear again. Her entire body was infected with bacteria and she needed a medicated shampoo daily. As I shaved her I was disgusted with the white balls of strange bacteria attached to her skin and hair falling to the concrete. A week later she was like a puppy again. There is a reason I am updating and re-telling my story: I have a Great Dane that I took in for pre-op bloodwork necessary to put him under for surgery. His "visit" and flea/HW meds cost over $330. (They reimbursed me for $45 of that amount) About 9 days ago he (Odin) had a serious episode. I called Riverside Vet in desperation because bloat is deadly and he had all of the symptoms. Odin couldn't sit or lay down. His stomach was bigger than normal. His nose was dry and warm. Thomas answered. I begged them to see Odin. Thomas said they would call me right back to see when they could get him in. Thomas/they never did call me back. I had to turn to a emergency clinic. In a cosmic coincidence while tearfully waiting for that call I went to get the mail. There was a large vanilla envelope from Riverside Vet with a cover letter saying that "care was based on trust." And then, in very long and rambling paragraphs it said that I gave them a bad review in the past on Yelp and... "we have canceled all of your upcoming appts" (including Odin's surgery that I had to plan for 6 weeks in advance) and promising to reimburse me for Odin's bloodwork. All and all getting Odin seen at an emergency clinic cost me over $650 + $598 the very next day for a "follow-up" because I no longer had a vet. At least Odin is still alive. Karma is not.

Boy where do I start? Roots has been an absolute blessing to our lives over the past four years,…read moreand we are heartbroken to be moving away from them. Dr. Lassin has created a unicorn vet clinic, we have seen over half a dozen vets since we got our French bulldog, Brie, seven years ago and I can confidently say that every other vet pales in comparison to Roots. Brie has gone through so much with the Roots team and has been seen by Dr. Lassin, Dr. Sosa, and our favorite lady Dr. Jordan. We have always felt heard and seen by each one of them and the entire team has gone above and beyond to care for our girl through incessant allergies, an IVDD surgery recovery, ongoing UTIs, and more always offering holistic options when possible and weighing each and every scenario with us. Calling us back for updates (even after hours) and always being so patient with our feisty girl. There are no words that we can use to express our gratitude for all of the care and love this group of people have given to our fur baby over the past four years. Thank you is simply not enough, and if we ever find ourselves back in Austin, it won't even be a question of where we'll bring all of our future pets. We love y'all so much!

To say that this is a vet clinic that focuses on holistic medicine would be quackery. I took my dog…read moreas a puppy to roots to find out why he was itching. They concluded that it could be environmental allergies and have told me that we should try different diets for food to test it. They gave him cytopoint and sent him on his way. This was in 2023/2024. Now it is 2026 and he has passed away in May of 2026 from a heart attack related to Chagas disease which is endemic to Texas due to kissing bugs. How can you claim to be an integrative vet when you don't even spread awareness about chagas? My poor baby has struggled most of his life from itching due to chagas eating him away from the inside and inflamming his heart. The vet tried to upsell us on kibble and apoquel along with routine cytopoint injections instead of getting to the "root" of the problem. We ended up doing immunotherapy down the line which helped his fur grow back and cleared some of the fungus that has grown on his body, but we were not able to catch chagas disease in time. I hope that this "holistic integrative veterinary care" clinic warns dog owners around Austin about chagas and starts referring people to test for chagas annually at Texas A&M for an antibody test and recommend annual blood work. I found my experience to be transactional and cursory.

I highly DO NOT recommend this vet, you're better off finding a smaller vet or mom and pop type vet. This is a corporate vet and they only want your MONEY. Your animals health is secondary. I went here for a year and a half and they tried to squeeze every penny out of me that they could knowing I would have to be back in a couple months. ZERO STARS. Would not recommend

I am very protective of my pets so when I say that I am 10000% comfortable leaving my babies in their care having never met them is HUGE! They are not only very communicative with every step of their exam, process, treatment, and follow up. But whenever we tell our furbies they're "going to the Doctor" they get as excited as if I told them they're were going to see their grandparents. Thank you to all of you @ Firehouse Vet for taking such beautiful care of our darlings! You folks truly are in it for the betterment of the animals!
