They are compassionate and take their time to hear us out and execute the best healthcare possible as needed. Yes can be a bit pricey for some services, but as pet owners we must all look at the future of the health of our pets as they get older and of course unfortunate events that may occur. We took out pet insurance through my husband's work and we also took advantage of their payment options while waiting to get our money back from the pet insurance company. We used scratch pay and were very satisfied with it. We were approved immediately and gave us peace of mind. Recently we lost our beloved Kaipo. We were devastated because we didn't know he had a tumor. Another vet told us that it was probably nothing and not to worry about it. But come to find out it was a tumor and it burst and he had to be put down because he was suffering. He couldn't walk! We brought him to Kyle Animal Hospital where they examined him thoroughly and found the internal bleeding. My fur baby of almost 16 years was put to rest one day before his birth and two days after my birthday. The compassion and the care we experienced with this place was truly heartwarming. It was a time of devastation and sorrow, yet they comforted us with caring and understanding. I take my other fur baby Faith here and my daughter's two cats. I cannot say enough great things about Dr Jones and her staff. I went in today from a referral from…read moremy vet. My senior dog was suspected of having heart issues following an aspiration of 3 liters from her chest. I went to see dr jones and I was the only patient. It seemed very private and intimate and I have never experienced vet staff as knowledgeable and compassionate as her staff. I was ushered into a consult room within minutes. Dr Jones came in immediately following the standard paperwork questions. She sat on the floor with my dog. She was so kind and soothing and genuinely cares about these animals and their experience. Then we went for the ultrasound. I was in the room, able to hold my dogs head and calm her. She showed me everything on the screen and educated me every step of the way. Although my sweet dog didn't like being up as high as she was, I think it was so comforting that I could be there with her. The prognosis is not good. Cancer, and a really bad kind. She talked me through all options and actually gave me great advice. For once, a vet told me signs to look for that would signal me to think about ending her pain. She helped me come up with a plan that suits both me and my senior dog and will allow for the most comfort and realism. I did have her perform a surgical procedure so I left for about an hour to tend to my other animals. Upon returning to the clinic, she let my dog sit with me while she "sobered up". This was, of course, after she was in the clear but allowed my baby girl to "come to" around her mom. That meant a lot. After deciding our next steps, and discussing what with ultimately be her compassionate end, she hugged me and gave my sweet dog a brand new toy. And when the time does come, she will book me as the only patient in the office so we can have a private goodbye. Today was horrible. I'm losing my second dog in three months, my two fur children that have grown up together. I wasn't prepared for this, and certainly devastated, and Dr Jones was an angel we both needed. She is so amazing and she actually made me smile through tears. As I left the office, I told her staff that o loved her and thought she was the best. The lady said, " we love what we do". I couldn't have said it better. Everyone at this practice was AMAZING and I hope they all win the lottery and all great things happen to them! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have helped me feel better about a terrible situation, both in knowing my dog is under the best care, and helping this human to not feel like crap making an unbearable decision.

We rushed her to a nearby vet, knowing she'd probably have to see a specialist. Sure enough, we were referred to Dr Jones. Dr Jones offered to see her immediately. When we got there, we were not shown into an exam room. Instead, the doctor and her staff came to us, sitting on the floor with my dog and checking her out right there. It was easier on my dog that way (she's old and arthritic, and she was in pain at the time) and easier on us, as we didn't have to carry her and all her records & meds to another room. In addition, the manner in which they treated my dog was something I hadn't seen before. I am used to vets who are kind, but not vets who genuinely treat my pet like it is their own. I had no reservations about leaving her there for the day while more tests were done. When I came back that afternoon, I was even more impressed. My dog had not been locked away in a kennel for the day. For her own comfort and ease of observation, a big space had been made for her in the staff's work area. I noticed that not one person passed without stopping to pet her or check on her. I was allowed to sit with her while the rest of her test results were obtained, and I was given detailed instructions for her treatment. As for her treatment, I was offered a couple of options, and surprisingly, the more expensive one (surgery) was not recommended unless the other failed to improve things. Now, I understand that this is the way it's supposed to be, but in my experience it rarely works out that way. In the end, I spent a small fortune, but not nearly what I expected to, and certainly not what I would have had we seen a vet who had recommended the most aggressive treatment. I can't say enough to describe how impressed I was with not only Dr Jones but with her entire staff. It is clear that they all truly care about the health and happiness of animals, and I could not imagine a better place to take an animal who needs specialty care.

I am extremely disappointed with how Bastrop Veterinary Hospital handled my dog's appointment…read moretoday. My dog is a Great Dane with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and congestive heart failure. He is essentially on hospice care and takes more than 30 medications a day. Because of his severe heart condition, his cardiologist has instructed that he cannot be vaccinated due to the risk to his heart. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital already knows this. My dog has been treated there before, including earlier this year when they performed tests that were ordered by his cardiologist. They have our account, his medical history, and all of this information on file. I scheduled a nail trim appointment because my dog is in pain from overgrown nails and he will not allow me to trim them at home. I explained his medical condition in the appointment notes and that he is reactive and would need to be handled carefully. Before the appointment, the clinic even called and left a voicemail reminding me to give him anxiety medication before coming in. I still had trazodone from a previous visit, so I medicated him 90 minutes before the appointment exactly as instructed. Getting him to the clinic is not easy. Car rides are extremely stressful for him because of his advanced heart disease. I specifically chose this clinic because it is close to my home and minimizes that stress. When we arrived, I told them I would wait in the car because he does not do well around other dogs. They initially agreed. However, they then brought me inside and had me wait in the lobby anyway while they prepared a room, which immediately put him into a stressful situation I had asked to avoid. When they finally took him to the back, I placed a muzzle on him and tightened it to make sure he could not get it off so that staff would be safe. They told me it would only take a moment. Six minutes later, someone came out with a clipboard and told me they could not perform the nail trim because he is not vaccinated. This was shocking and extremely frustrating. They already knew my dog's medical history. They had treated him previously without vaccinations because of his severe heart condition. They had just called me beforehand to ensure he was medicated for the visit. Yet no one bothered to mention that they would refuse treatment once I arrived. Instead, they let me go through the process of medicating a critically ill dog, putting him through the stress of a car ride, muzzling him, and waiting, only to tell me after the fact that they wouldn't help him. My dog is in pain because his nails cannot be trimmed safely at home, which is exactly why I brought him to professionals. If the clinic had simply called ahead of time and said they could not perform the service, that would have been understandable. Instead, they put a very sick dog through unnecessary stress and wasted our time. It was incredibly disappointing and frankly unacceptable.

Our story : We rescued a Shepsky ( Shadow ) from San Marcus Human society 3 years ago. It the shelter he showed no aggression but not long after we go him home he showed signs of resource guarding and its slowly gotten worse. We cant put a muzzle on him and he bit our former vet for trying to muzzle him. Long story shorter, we were referred 2 mobile vets by a trainer, one said they would do it, but didn't seem interested in the job, so we called 6 whiskers, My wife spoke with Dylan. Dylan was really interested in Shadow, asking a ton of questions, seemed genuinely excited to be able to meet him and went over everything they would do for us. They showed up exactly when they said they would, with a full mobile office, weight scale, the works. Dylan brought tons of treats for Shadow too. with in a few minutes he had shadow acting like his best friend. Dr Elizabeth was wonderful too. Was able to quickly give Shadow a shot and within 10 minutes he went to sleep. While shadow was sleeping, Dr Elizabeth went to work, taking blood for testing, giving him all his shots, even broke out the vacc5000 ( think that was Dylan's name for it ) and trimmed his nails, and trimmed his hair on his back end for us. The appointment was about 2 1/2 hrs long, all dedicated to Shadow. I cant recommend these guys enough. Expecting a huge bill, i was pleasantly surprised at the fair cost at the end.

We have two cats who haven't been to a vet before so they were getting a full checkup and vaccines. Upon arrival, they were very disorganized and it felt like making things up as they went. For example, they forgot to give our cat one of the shots she needed. The husband was particularly unprofessional, he kept telling us not to be nervous and if we're nervous the cats get nervous - when what was making us nervous was how they were scrambling to decide what steps to perform and forgetting things and the wife kept asking him questions and he just kept talking to us about nothing. They also didn't disclose the side effects of the vaccines they gave my cats until after they got them. They were supposed to come back for a booster shot but we did not feel comfortable so we canceled the appointment, and they immediately sent us vet records and basically dismissed us as clients, after I had paid over $1,000 for their "services". Now one of my cats, who was perfectly healthy before the appointment (and was confirmed so by their tests) is suddenly lethargic and experiencing pain in her leg, and when we contacted them about it they just acted like "it couldn't have been from us" and offered no additional advice or care. If you are thinking of using this service for your cats, I would absolutely not recommend 6 Whiskers.

However when our beautiful rooster got bumblefoot we took him in, and the Doctor recommended surgery. They said it was routine and minimal. Next thing the doctor calls and tells us that my rooster didn't make it. I completely understand the risks with surgery but he had assessed and said the infection had not spread, then it was a contradictory story when he called. Additionally we dropped him off at 7:30am. I called the staff at 1pm to check on him, they said he was going into surgery and he will be done by 3. I called at 3pm - circles no one knew the status. I got hung up on multiple times. I got through at 3:30 they said they hadn't started the surgery yet (even though they previously said he would be done by this time) and that he was going into surgery now-- I was waiting anxiously and then get a call from the doc. I will never trust this vet again with my animals. Was never expecting to take my bird in and not bring him home. If he was that ill I would have rather the doctor call me and let me make the choice to have him pass peacefully at my home.
