My aunt suggested we eat here after we went to the apple orchard. She had eaten here and said the food was great and the desserts were amazing. An she wasn't wrong! As soon as we walked in I could smell the goodness. This cute restaurant is off the beaten path but well worth finding. We were seated right away and drink orders taken. Our waiter was a nice young whose name escapes me but he gave amazing service. I asked him recommendations then asked what he thought about the meatball sandwich. He raved about the meatballs saying they were homemade and it was one of his favorites. So of course I had to have it. An let me say it was by far the best meatball sub I have had! Just the right amount of everything! An to top it off the bun was toasted which made it even better! My aunt had the club sandwich as was equally as pleased. We took our desserts home as we were stuffed. But they were all amazing. From the cannoli to the cheesecake to the tiramisu. It was all amazing. Wish I could've tried all their desserts but these were a few like you chose. We never had to ask for refills or anything as or waiter was great. Highly recommend here in the area or even not in the area that you go and try Vito's Pizza bar and Grill. I'm telling you it is worth the drive. You won't be disappointed.. read more

The restaurant has a nice casual feel. I went with 3 other friends and ordered the Vito's fries and mozzarella sticks for appetizers. One person got the deluxe pizza with no mushrooms or green peppers, another the lemon chicken piccata, another the rigatoni Alla Vito with marinara sauce and the PBJ cocktail, another the Italian trio and the margherita pizza. Everything was delicious! The only negative point was our server who was either very flighty or else had too many tables as she kept forgetting things we asked for and even came back with credit cards that weren't ours, leaving us to fear what happened to our cards until she finally came back. I have tried this place several times and each time I go the order is wrong the staff are mostly nice but there are a few rough ones in the batch. So freaking annoyed. The purpose of calling in an order is so it's ready when you get there, not having to sit there for 25 minutes for them to remake it because the cook can't follow freaking instructions read more

We really enjoyed our visit here. We stopped by for a break as we were on a long road trip. It was a Monday night and the parking lot was full. The menu was surprisingly large. There's something for everyone, even if you don't want pizza or pasta. We had a "mini" margarita pizza (10" --big enough for one), and the pasta primavera. Both were very tasty. Unassuming with ample opportunities for comfort food. True, VPB&G will not win any awards for presentation or service, however, rest assured that you won't leave hungry nor break-the-bank. The only non-chain restaurant for pizza between Charlottesville & Lynchburg. Plenty of seating in both the dining room & bar areas. The deserts are exactly the same as those at the Crossroads Market, a few minutes up the road, but double the price. They put butter on everything, which many people think is a good thing, but they have no regard for people with food allergies or food-chain conscious people. I won't go there again; Mellow Mushroom is a much better option even with a longer drive. read more

Vito's, I have one suggestion. Put some Italian style soups on your menu. This is the first Italian restaurant I have ever been to that doesn't serve soup. Add a minnestrone or lentil. read more

We have been so pleased with Vitos every time we have come here. It's not easy to find good, fresh, real food in this part of Nelson County, but we have never been disappointed with Vitos. The salads are fresh, the french fries are hot delicious, all the pasta dishes we have had so far are great. Service is fast and friendly, and the desserts are amazing. Highly recommend. read more

What a wonderful surprise! Hubby was having a pizza attack while driving our trip on 29 to SML. He decided to stop at Vito's even after my; you know you will be disappointed....why bother look. I ate my pizza words. No cheap all purpose flour here but a nice tasty perfectly cooked crust. Not sure what everyone else was eating with these reviews but this Philly area siciliano was shocked how good the crust was. We shared a small sausage, spinach and cheese bianca pizza with a chopped salad with Italian dressing. It was perfect, crust fussy hubby was happy. Me who stopped eating pizza on road trips because of disappointment was impressed. The salad was fresh and the Italian dressing was made inhouse(ranch and Italian were made fresh others bought). The salad was large enough to share or eat for a meal. It was made of assorted greens with bacon, avocado, egg, ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber and black olives. Will order again. Sharing a small pizza and a salad was perfect for the two of us. The waitress was attentive and knew the menu responding to our questions. She told the owner we loved our pizza and he stopped by our table. He was originally from Italy and I found him to be someone who takes pride in his food. This is a great spot to eat. Extremely over priced for how either mediocre or horrible the food is. I got chicken piccata once and the dish was sitting it what looked like sewer water. Tasted so bad that I couldn't finish it. The chicken was also oddly slimy. I also asked for an amaretto sour and the waiter didn't know what it was so I got a lemon drop martini. Obviously watered down and he brought be a straw for the drink but set it down wet on the table. Apparently he's tried to put the straw in the drink but it kept falling out so his solution was to give it to me anyways and place it directly on the table with bare hands. I ordered a Stromboli for my boyfriend and the filling was all in one corner. Literally a stack of pepperoni all in one small corner of the dough. Little to no effort at all put into most of the food there. I ordered a pizza which was extremely dry and also had a hair on it. I gave them one last chance and ordered chicken Parmesan while my mom ordered eggplant parm. The pasta came with meat sauce on her eggplant parm which is weird because it's usually a vegetarian dish. Oh and after eating my chicken parm I felt incredibly sick. The safest bet here is spaghetti with meatballs (which is $18 btw) and it still isn't even that good. I have no idea why this place is still in business, between the obvious health and safety issues and the fact that it's so expensive for even the simplest things, they should've gone under long ago. If you're in the area, skip this place. Head into Lynchburg for edible Italian food. read more

Husband got a raging headache and threw up that evening; the last thing he ate was a slice of the chocolate peanut butter pie from their dessert case. We tried Vito's a couple of times after we moved to Amherst a few years ago and found the food to be okay, but pricy, so we didn't go back for some time. When we wanted Italian takeout, we'd just pick it up from a place in Lynchburg. We got tired of this and tried Vito's takeout a few months ago and every single time, they've shown up. Food is always hot and delicious and ready when they say it will be. They have been consistent every time and the prices don't seem as high as they used to ‍ There aren't a lot of places to eat in Amherst but this is a good one! read more

The pizza was absolutely loaded with cheese and the dough didn't hold up well enough under all that melted glory, so the sogginess is my biggest complaint. If I could give no stars I would, staff isn't that friendly too. My Husband and I are locals and usually have had decent experiences eating here, unfortunately we went in last night for dinner and it was terrible. We got seated fast and the waiter was super fast greeting us and got our drink orders fast. I ordered the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes, my husband got the taormina sandwich, and we got the vito fries as our appetizer. Our fries came out fast and they were yummy, then came his fries and my mashed potatoes, (sides) but not our main dishes which is unusual to have sides first instead of all together. Finally his sandwich comes and the waitress hands me a sub to which I replied I didn't order a sub, I ordered the hamburger steak, keep in mind this waitress had repeatedly came to our table to ask us about our order even though we were clear on what we wanted. I told her no onions, but I wanted gravy on my hamburger steak, she returns with a dry steak topped with onions, no gravy and I said this still isn't correct since I had stated multiple times I wanted no onions, just gravy. I told her to forget it because I was already frustrated in repeating myself over and over, she then states that she is not charging me for the gravy. My husband's meal was no good, he only took 2 bites, the sauce that was on it was heavy on one side and to him was not good at all. He needed a refill on his drink which he finally got at the end of our visit, even though the cup was well visible for her to see. We still ended up paying $41 total for stuff we didn't even eat which is ridiculous, there was no sorry or no refund on the food that we didn't even hardly touch, all was said "do you need a box". Worst time ever and overpriced. Won't return here again, save your money people! read more

This is the most amazing Italian restaurant! We are new to the area and were so pleasantly surprised to find this place - their pizzas are amazing and rival any we have had - the pasta dishes are delicious and the desserts? You just need to look at the dessert area and you will be amazed. The service is great and we can always get seated even when it is super busy. Not too impressed. Should've listened to the local that told me to go to The Filling Station. I was seated quickly and my order was taken quickly speed of service was good. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. The food was good. I prefer Swiss or provolone over American cheese on my chicken, but everything else was good with it. The fries were good, but maybe just a tad undercooked. My issues were with the waitress I guess. I didn't get a refill on my Dr. Pepper until I was eating my last fry and she asked if I was saving room for anything else. Even though my glass had been empty on the edge of the table since about halfway through my meal. And I eat slow. So then she brought me my bill. $11.20 I paid $21.20. So common sense says if I went through the effort to pay with exact change, that I must not need any $1s for the tip. She takes forever stating she had to go get change which baffled me. I heard that this establishment will not bring your food to the car anymore. This is really heartbreaking because when this pandemic started, I was was supporting this establishment everyday. But I see times have changed and my money is not good money anymore. When you were having to change due to covid19, you were running out to serve your customers to get that money from us, but now since you have lifted restrictions people you use to serve curbside are no longer a factor. So we had eaten at Vito's a couple of times before and had a decent to good experience. My problem with my visit today was not related to how good the food was but to how bad the service was. We stopped in around 3:00 and we wanted our order to go. I ordered the Chicken Palermo (chicken and spaghetti) and a cheesesteak. About 35-40 minutes later our food is ready, little long but not too bad. I get out to our vehicle and they have given me a chicken sandwich. So I go back in and they take the sandwich to the back and say that they will fix the situation. 30 minutes later they bring me the correct food. Then they tell me that they don't have any "to go" forks. They give me a spoon. A spoon. To eat spaghetti. Multiple people came through in the hour I was there and they sent them all away with to go orders with no utensils. The building next door to them, a Food Lion grocery store. They knew they were out and couldn't send a runner to pick up 100 plastic forks for $2.00 next door? They just sent customers away wondering how anyone running a restaurant could run out of eating utensils. So my wife and I are outside trying to eat our meal, my now cold cheesesteak and fries and her (almost comically) trying to eat spaghetti with a spoon and we are both so very disappointed that we passed multiple really good places to eat in nearby Lynchburg to eat here. They never tried to fix the utensil issue, didn't even offer to comp us a dessert or a percentage of the meal or anything. They just didn't care that they totally screwed up everything about this meal and just sent us away visibly upset. Everyone was polite and they had lots of servers and staff everywhere and everybody was busy but no one seemed to care that our experience was totally bad. They are pretty much the only thing in this area besides a Hardee's and a McDonalds so it's not like the people in the area have much of a choice and maybe that's why they didn't care, who knows. What I do know is that they have now lost any future business from our family. Very disappointing and nothing that can be blamed on worker shortages or Covid or wars in other countries, just plain bad customer service. I did give them a two star rating because if I had been able to eat my food when it was hot it probably would have been good. My wife gave up on her $20 chicken Palermo (spaghetti) after eating just a little of it because she couldn't fight the spoon. She said she felt like she was on a bad game show and this was a challenge. read more
