We have eaten at Vittles several times for lunch. We usually order the burgers made from local beef which are consistently very good. This time though I ordered the tuna and avocado panini which I was disappointed in. The tuna salad was mushy, meaning top much mayo, and I could find only a few bits of avocado. My husband ordered the caprese panini which he very much enjoyed. The hand cut fries and drizzled onions were very good as well. I was a little hesitant when I walked into this restaurant; the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. But the food more than made up for it. We ordered two of the specials: a turkey & artichoke panini and a salmon & spinach wrap. Both were delicious and filled with fresh ingredients. Close to Reny's which is a great shopping experience, too. I said I couldn't give five stars on a first visit. I've now returned three more times. Definitely FIVE stars. No matter what I order for lunch, it is freshly made and extremely filling. The wait staff is always friendly. The Bailey's chocolate ice-cream is still to die for! I now must plan on a dinner visit. I've been told the prime rib is worth a special trip. read more

I also posted this review on another site, but I want to make sure as many people as I can know about this little gem in Pittsfield, ME. ---- We made a trip to Maine about a week ago (Moose Head Lake/Greenville area). We drove overnight from Philadelphia, PA. On Wednesday morning we were still about 2 hrs from our destination, and we were starting to get a little hungry. We happened to see a little sign on the Maine Turnpike that said "Vittles" and decided 'Sure, what the heck... let's try it.' - OMG!! What a fantastic surprise!! It was about 7am. I had the "Lemon Poppy Seed Silver Dollar Flapjacks with 2 eggs" (one of the specials that day). My boyfriend had the "Avocado Scramble". Yummm! Both dishes were great! - We enjoyed it so much we decided to stop in again on our way back home at at the end of our vacation. It was Sunday morning & I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to try the "Eggs Bene" (offered only on the weekends). My boyfriend had the "Blueberry Panini" (one of the specials that day). - Once again... OMG.... sooo good! Honestly, I thought the Blueberry Panini tasted like Blueberry ice cream (except that it wasn't cold... It was warm & delicious). I don't usually indulge in dishes as rich as Eggs Benedict, but it was sooo worth it!! Holy smokes! The hollandaise was delicious & the eggs were perfect. I later found out that the chef/owner is extremely particular about his hollandaise.... so much so, that he will toss it & start over if it's not right. -- The service both times was also great. They were also more than willing to accommodate my weird food allergy (black pepper). -- Bottom line: If you're in the area, it is well worth the short detour off the Turnpike. This place is wonderful! If you are near Pittsfield, you should stop. Vittles is very homey, nice, the food was excellent and abundant. It has a great beer and wine list. The homemade Bailey's milk chocolate ice cream (the waiter gave us a free sample) and fried cheese cake are to die for. Onion ring appetizer are the best! Three of the group had the ribeye steak and it was better than the steak we get at our favorite steak house. I can not say enough nice things. All of our family of five gave it two thumbs up. This place is great!! We arrived in Maine from Richmond VA and went in search of lunch. Thanks to Yelp and other reviewers, we tried Vittles. It was excellent. We shared the shrimp appetizer and the chicken fingers. Both were outstanding. We added some blue cheese dressing for the lettuce that came with the shrimp - yum. The chips were as good as others have stated. And we saved room for ice cream - homemade raspberry and blueberry. So delicious. To top it all off, the staff are delightful and there is great ambience. Definitely quintessential small town Maine - delightful people and outstanding food. Best way to start a vacation!! read more

A surprisingly delicious eatery in downtown Pittsfield! I have lived here for six years and was cautiously optimistic when Vittles opened since the previous restaurants that have filled that space have served ho-hum family fare and not survived long. Vittles, however, is far from ho-hum! They have a quality lunch menu with items such as a blackened chicken wrap, portabella cap wrap, herbed salmon burger, three-cheese grilled cheese, potato-bacon-cilantro soup (one of their soupes du jour), and a variety of burgers and salads. They also serve breakfast until 11:00 AM (they are open until 2:00 PM) and on Friday nights they serve dinner. Creatively, the beverages come in "glasses" that are actually Ball Mason jars. So cool! I love little details like that. Also, they use a lot of fresh, local ingredients and almost everything is homemade, including the pickles and the potato chips. Vittles is worth a stop (or two or three or...). I will certainly be going back! read more

Stopped here during a long road trip b/c of the Yelp reviews - we were not disappointed. The waitress was attentive, kind and enthusiastic about the menu. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the clam chowder and the sandwich special. I tried the Classic Vittles salad which was a satisfying meal - the chicken was moist and perfectly grilled, the vegetables were very fresh, and the recommended house dressing was homemade and delicious. Husband also tried one of the special ice creams and it was wonderful. Feels like a family restaurant where pride goes into the preparation and they really want you to enjoy your meal. At the table behind us a child ordered a PB&J sandwich...when it arrived as toast with condiments on the side, she was very upset. The waiter and cook swiftly resolved the situation and offered the young girl free ice cream which made her day. The decor is feels like a classic diner in a downtown setting - fun signage, soaring tin ceilings, vintage furnishings and bar. This is a sweet spot worth the detour. read more

Went in to vittles and sat down at one of the booths. The waitress took my order and went back behind the bar. She then decided to wash the floor on her knees with her hands and a rag. Not waiting long she brought me my food with out washing her hands. The food was very cold and almost like it was warmed up. I never could get the attention of the waitress again thru the whole meal. So I had to eat the to jumbo tenders with a tiny thing of sauce while the waitress talked to the other waitress about her tips behind the bar. She never asked to refill my drink either. I finished my meal and she did not even bring me my bill I waited and waited until I was completely irritated. I finally got up and walked over to the register to pay and she had lost my order. She then decided to to rewrite it. She rings me up I pay with debit and on the receipt their is a place to leave a tip I leave it blank and hand it to her. She then looks to the receipt to see the tip and smacks her lip and gives me a dirty look. This is the worst restaurant I have ever went to in my life. If you get the heavy set blonde waitress run for the door and lick the side walk your guaranteed to have a better experience. read more
