I randomly stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant after getting off of exit 150 on I-95 and finding nothing but a Subway at the exit.

My dad, who is a Midwesterner and no stranger to chicken sandwiches, says the one here was the best he ever had. My salmon sandwich was also very good, as were the pickles. read more

Ate at Vittles for the first time tonight. We will be definitely going back! One of us had ribeye steak...medium well...which is always a risky temp but it came out perfectly done. The thyme potato chips were crisp and flavorful. The zucchini was a bit heavy handed on the garlic. The other one had saffron pasta lobster ravioli that was so light and delicious that it was sad to see the bottom of the pasta plate. We splurged with dessert and shared blueberry pie with baileys Irish cream chocolate ice cream . All made fresh on site. So good! They are only open at night Friday and Saturday. Came based on recommendations on this site. Dead-on experience. Easy off and back on 95. Two outstanding angus burgers with caramelized onions and shiitake shrooms, cooked perfectly. Someone else got an amazing fried chicken sandwich with the works. Pleasant waitress. Nice place! read more

Very sweet service. The owner was very friendly! Food was ok. We had simple sandwich and homemade chips. Also had chowder that was just what we were looking for. No frills meal. I don't think there is much by way of great food in the nearby vicinity. read more

Wow, that was a wonderful dining experience on our way South on 95. Worth going off the highway a couple miles for delicious food and friendly service. I enjoyed the crispy chicken Gouda and red pepper sandwich with delicate friend onions as a side. My husband enjoyed the pastrami spinach tomato panini with handmade crispy waffle potato chips. Even the kids were thrilled with homemade Mac and Cheese. Save room for interesting desserts like the Fried Cheesecake dusted with Cinnamon and a side of berries or their unique ice cream flavored like Bailey White Chocolate or Baileys Dark Chocolate. I was a little confused by my turkey panini, but others may love it....it was very mushy and I couldn't discern the taste of turkey in most of it. Crab stuffed portobello was over powered by the balsamic, but again, may just be a matter of preference. Very friendly service. read more

Made a stop at Vittles while on a road trip and this was a bathroom and leg stretch stop which turned out to be one of our best meals while on the road! Great, quaint small town feel and the restaurant is at the corner of Main Street and Easy Street! The Chicken Fingers were the best ever according to my 11-year-old and the homemade pickles were amazing! We loved it! read more

I've never done a review before, but this place is worth the effort! We travel quite a bit and are always looking for the local spots that serve great food. Vittles is one of those! There were six of us, and we all loved our meals and desert. Squash coconut soup was fabulous. Portobello stuffed with crab, haddock sandwich and even the blt were all great. Loved the homemade waffle chips. The homemade pie and ice creams were all fabulous. read more

We had a great lunch here as we drove through the area. The chef himself made recommendations for us and made sure we got everything we needed. The prices were very good for the quality of the meals - fresh ingredients and obvious care with the preparation. Kids enjoyed their kids meals, too. Highly recommend the ice cream, made in-house by the chef. The waitress was friendly and fast and the small town setting was just what we were looking for - pretty much everyone in the restaurant chatted with me or my spouse at some point. We weren't expecting such a lovely experience on a quick pit stop but clearly we underestimated small town Maine! read more

Wow, just, wow! We chanced upon this place during a half-day business trip ... breakfast and then we went back for lunch. The breakfast sandwich (turkey, egg & cheese) was fresh and yummy. Lunch was the Black & Jack wrap and they gave us a complimentary scoop of ice-cream (Bailey's Irish Cream flavor). Everything was amazing - fresh, tasty - it's all made from scratch, in-house. Came back to see if our last visit was a fluke. Turned out we had a delicious breakfast. Kat our server was very pleasant and attentive. My husband had the sausage gravy on toast and I had the hypocrite omelet. I have to say the omelet was one of the best I've had. read more

Best food around! I dont even need to drive to Bangor or Waterville! Great burgers, great fries, kick ass wait staff and the owner is always chatting everyone up! The food here is excellent! The atmosphere is old, vintage and weary looking, but the quality of the food makes up for it's worn look. The shrimp and corn stew was rich and thick but not with the usual cream sauces. The seasonings were subtle yet delicious. The homemade potato chips were out of this world. Tuna melts and homemade pickles, yum! Did I mention homemade pies and cakes? We were traveling back home from vacationing in Maine and this was the perfect lunch stop on the way home. read more

We have eaten at Vittles several times for lunch. We usually order the burgers made from local beef which are consistently very good. This time though I ordered the tuna and avocado panini which I was disappointed in. The tuna salad was mushy, meaning top much mayo, and I could find only a few bits of avocado. My husband ordered the caprese panini which he very much enjoyed. The hand cut fries and drizzled onions were very good as well. But, alas, the coffee was weak and tasteless, a deal breaker for me . read more
