Anglers is one of our favorite restaurants and I am surprised to see that it has been over three years since I have written about it, so here I am. Turns out it is even better than I thought, because I really tested it this time. Anglers describes itself as a seafood place, and indeed they make the best fried scallops I have tried anywhere around here. I usually pair them with clams or oysters for a seafood combo for that reason. But I went in a different direction this time. Partly, I admit, due to the current market pricing, as the current cost is breathtaking, but also because it occurred to me that a kitchen that can provide the very best of a particular dish probably does well at other choices. So I went with the linguine veggie scampi. Then it came down to what type of potato I wanted for my one side dish, so I up-charged my way to sweet potato fries, which were good as always. My wife went with the dependable fish and chips and made sure she included their garlic-smashed potatoes as a side. And what can I say, my veggie scampi was delicious! It came with a pointy French baguette sort of thing and was quite a healthy-sized portion. I must confess that I don't remember exactly what our dinner companion had, but it involved scallops and lemon and she really liked it. Rosie was our server so we received efficient and fun service. Normally you pay on the way out, but this was just before the dinner rush, so she offered to handle the transaction at the table. So, to sum up, a great meal, slightly less expensive than usual, and we all defrayed the cost of the evening by bringing home a second meal. read more

Food was pretty good.... The shrimp batter was a little Soft, could have spent a minute or two more in the fryer. The service was great.... Small little spot on the side of the road. Make sure to get the blueberry pie. It was a 10/10. Maybe an 11/10 either way ice cream! read more

Prices high and most dishes market priced and you have to ask . Few prices on menu and no price boards .

Absolutely loved the sound of everything on the menu and we were excited to eat here. However it is inconceivable how terrible they can make this scallops taste. The seafood chowder was terrible too. I just really can't believe how many locals totally enjoying their food. Lobster roll and sweet potato fries were ok. I would come here for basic breakfast, but as far as the seafood, we felt tricked by that good sounding menu low prices. read more

We enjoyed a fabulous Easter Brunch there today! The blueberry mimosas were really yummy and the food was delicious, as usual! My wife had a scrumptious Seafood Quiche, while I enjoyed an amazing Eggs Benedict, with bacon (which was perfectly crispy)! We even had our favorite server (Rosie), who's always a real hoot! Ordered a burger from here and before I could even eat half of it, the other half was so soggy. The bun was disintegrating, and it was poorly flavored alongside the fries were so cooked. There was no more potato in them. Alongside me, not enjoying my meal, however my boyfriend had the fried haddock with garlic mashed potatoes was excellent! I'd rate this place a 6/10. Our server was fantastic. I wish I could remember her name, but she had colored blue hair at the time and she had great conversation skills. read more

Completely take responsibility for the sub-standard experience as I should've headed a review left by someone who had been going there since they were kid and noted how downhill it went. We were travelling to the North Woods and needed to stop somewhere at the time, slim pickings on options. We ordered Maine Claims as an appetizer. Being unfamiliar with how to eat them (hot water is involved) as opposed to most other claims one encounters, we flagged down a waitress when we didn't see ours and asked. She was happy to help, but our waitress saw us talking to her and marched over and barked "Is there a problem?!!" We were a little taken aback at how defensive she became and explained we were just unfamiliar and asked the closest staff. We ordered a fried seafood platter and fried whole belly claims. Oil was way overdue to be changed, fries were soggy. Prices were egregious for bowls of various chowders ($39 for lobster chowder when it was milk and claw meat, fish chowder was mostly potatoes), as well as for lobster rolls (we've found them t/o our travels in Maine for less and it was tail meat.) While I always want to support the mom and pops, we just couldn't substantiate spending $90 for food that just qualified as calories and hostile service. We observed that the restaurant was packed with elderly patrons who, by the smell of many, were heavy smokers, it stands to reason they remain busy as folks can't taste the food like they used to. read more

Came in after a long drive up - felt right at home and loved the ambiance. Went last night, worth the drive. Our server Lisa was excellent: friendly, knowledgeable and made a delicious martini. We all got fried seafood; clam bellies, Maine shrimp and scallops. Very little breading so the flavors really popped. My clams were as good as Woodman's in Massachusetts! The scallops were sweet and tender. Fantastic dinner. For dessert we all had pie, but had to take it home. Overall, the experience was great, and if you live in Central Maine, it is worth a visit. read more

For what it is, it's a great place. I particularly love the onion rings and hand-cut fries. The menu is varied, and the service was good.

If I could give it a 0 I would. I ordered chicken tenders and fries with Cole slaw and my partner got a BLT. The fries were literally raw. The chicken was alright but honestly probably not cooked as well as they should have been. My daughter could NOT even bite into her toasted bread. The waitress came over to ask and I told her about the fries. I didn't want to bombard her with complaints. She came back and the fries were cooked slightly better. At this point neither of us had much of an appetite especially when the folks behind us were also stating that their scallops were slimy and undercooked. When the waitress came back to grab our plates my plate was literally full. Could she NOT see that it was inedible? I went to the counter to pay and the hostess asked how things were and I told her-she seemed very sympathetic and she was about to get a manager when the waitress swooped over and stated, "you didn't say anything else about the other food -only the fries which I replaced" in a very confrontational tone. I expressed the folks behind us also had a horrible meal. She never offered to comp us for even a few dollars and continued to scowl and give me an attitude. She did not receive a tip-not for the food which of course she's not responsible for but for her rudeness which was totally unnecessary. I will never go back nor would I encourage anyone else to. It's one thing that the food was crappy-it's another thing when the waitstaff is too. $35 for two plates of inedible food-McDonalds would have been better. read more

I'm not saying it was a bad stop but I also probably wouldn't repeat it. Anglers was an old-school restaurant - nothing fancy. Long tables, simple decor, beat up rug, etc. We got a huge bowl of clam chowder, which was pretty good. And then we got the lobster roll with an upgrade to the fried mushrooms side - both disappointing. I thought the mushrooms were just kind of meh and the lobster roll was pretty small (not a lot of lobster) and also did not taste very fresh to me. But to be fair, I ate it all, did not have any negative side effects and my husband did not feel that way so take it for what it's worth I guess. read more

Came here MLK day during a day trip to Maine. Of course we came looking for lobster! The staff sadly let us know that they were out of steamers, and scallops and only had 4 lobsters left!!! (We arrived at 6:30) For appetizers we had buffalo chicken wings- they were just chicken tenders. They tasted great but a bit on the cold side. We also had onion rings. They were PERFECTLY sliced and fried. My only gripe was lack of seasoning. Don't get me wrong. This was way better than undercooked onion rings or sliced too thickly or bread crumb batter. A few of us had salad and chowders. And those all finished quickly. I ordered the baked stuffed lobster. It was topped with really fresh and juicy small shrimps and extra bits of lobster pieces -since they were out of scallops. The extra lobster pieces were overly dried out. The lobster in the shell was great. It was topped with their house made stuffing but I thought it was lacking in seasoning. A few of us in the group had fish and chips and they all seemed happy with it. The young one had a kids meal. Didn't touch it because that's what he does. But it was so adorable!!! It came in a cool assembled card stock paper boat. No desserts for us today but they had an impressive assortment of sweets. Bread pudding, grape-nut pudding, chocolate cake, gingerbread, cakes and more. Very big parking lot, plenty of tables, large bathroom stalls (but it felt like I was standing in front of an opened oven door it was so hot in there), Extensive list of beers and drinks. In the area looking at property and decided to give this place a try. I have to say it's essentially a diner with a fireplace. The food was tasty, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy with a whole lot of fishing decor (to be expected given the name). My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger, it was piping hot and there was plenty of it. I ordered chicken broccoli alfredo. Our server accidentally put the order in as "in a bread bowl". So I was quite surprised when it came out but I can tell you the next time I go I am going to see if they can "accidentally" order it that way again! Where to start???? Walked into Anglers around 12 noon on a Saturday afternoon, semi busy and freezing cold inside. Hostess seemed nice and after about 5min., walked us to our seats (which was fine). In our seating area there was ONLY an older couple who had just been seated prior. Fast forward 15min. (Mind you our waitress still hadn't come over to take orders) 2 guys are seated (so now there is a total of 3 tables filled in our section), exactly 5min. After there is now a 4th table filled. Strike-1. Finally, AFTER 21 min. Our waitress comes over to take orders (in order as we were seated...older couple, us, 2 guys and then the last table). Strike- 2. After orders were taken, the waitress returns and apologizes for the long wait and gave every table (except ours, the table that waited the 2nd longest) Free Onion Rings for all tables except, ours. Strike-3. Appetizer arrived (Clam Chowder) cold-warm... Gross. Strike -4. Main Course arrives (last, again while we had arrived well before the other tables) Fried Half & Half........ICE cold as if it were sitting outside in the snow. I asked for the check and walked-out leaving the entire meal on the table. I will say that the Fish sandwich was warm. In summary I'm not sure if the horrible service was race related but it surly felt that way. Sad that In a time where most businesses are struggling to keep their doors open, you still encounter these disgusting acts of ignorance. read more
