I hired City Renovations & Remodeling for a bathroom remodel last summer 2020. Michael Wiggs,…read moreowner/project manager, was assigned to my project and he was/is extremely unprofessional, nothing was on time, disrespectful behavior towards myself during disagreements and provided horrible customer service throughout the entire project. I would not highly recommend working with him and in fact if you've already received services from him please seek legal counsel. The contract I signed stated that this business is LICENSED, BONDED and INSURED in DC, which it is not. The license provided on my contract expired in 2006 per DCRA website. This inaccurate information is fraud. Michael Wiggs consistently reneged on many of the contract terms which were previously negotiated at the time I signed the contract. My contract was signed May 15,2020. The contract stated the projected start date was June 22, 2020. Work did not begin until August 10th and a new contract was not created. In addition, the contract's projected duration of the project was 2 weeks, weather permitting. My project was not completed until November 11th (4 months for a small bathroom remodel). In my opinion this was due to Mr. Wiggs poor project management. The first 6 weeks of the project I was out of my Condo because this is my only bathroom and the financial hardships placed on me at a time when COVID-19 was shutting down the DC area put a ton of stress on me. I was paying for living arrangements I could not utilize and I did not budget to be gone for the amount of time I had to be. I never received any compensation for this failure of Michael Wiggs to maintain the project timeline. When I returned to my unit I only had a toilet. There was no vanity, sink, or shower installed. One of my allotments was pocketed without a service or product being given. The contract mapped out 6 disbursements of money. However, once the project was almost half way through I was told by my contractor they could only withdraw 2 times from my loan and we needed to withdraw asap before my money was gone. Lastly, in the contract under "items not included" permit cost was stated, but within my line items permit was listed at a cost of $0. I eventually had to have DCRA close out my permits because he refused to close them out. There was always consistent miscommunication and lack of accountability from Michael Wiggs business, every issue was met with contempt instead of trying to find a solution. After all of this occurred, Michael Wiggs attempted to bully me by having a lawyer, Perry L. Foreman Jr., reach out to me to settle in the amount of $1,080.77 or they would move to sue me to obtain what they believe is what they are owed. Please understand as a consumer an unlicensed business cannot sue you in a jurisdiction that they aren't licensed. That's literally the purpose of the license so that the business can be protected by local laws. I did not give in to this tactic and instead I reached out to DCRA and the Consumer Protection Agency. Both of these local government offices have been extremely disappointing because they act as if they can't take action on the exact situations they were established to perform. The intentions of this review are to make all consumers aware of his business practices, understand local government offices will not be of any assistance and the best way to resolve these issues is to not get involved with them. When looking for a contractor please contact a property management company for a referral or obtain a referral from a trusted family member/friend. Make sure to obtain a business license, business insurance and scope of work from all contractors.

They painted the whole house and and repaired a part of the foundation that had been destroyed during the recent earthquake. The quality of the work was fantastic and I have no complaints. I called him and he said he would be on the way shortly. When Bobby arrived, he looked at the mess my wife and I made trying to do the repair. Reached out to several companies - only DC Handyman called me back. And thank goodness they did! First of, their desk is run by Chastity. Whatever they are paying her, they should pay more. Having dealt with several home repair issues this summer, I've called several specialty repair shops, and none of them have someone as professional and customer centric as Chastity. From that first interaction, she gave me confidence in the company. The estimate was more than I was expecting ($425 for 2 hours of work), but Chastity was able to explain costs and expectations so well that I decided to just have faith. You get what you pay for, right? Next, I met Avishay and his crew. They took a look at my toilet and thought that a replacement of the tank hardware would fix the problem. Except when they tried to remove the parts, it turns out this particular toilet is an all-or-nothing type, as in the tank part that was the problem can't be removed. It was looking like my only option was a full replacement of the toilet. Yikes! I was busy researching how much does a new toilet cost, but Avishay continued to work on the part. He figured out how to open the part and tried a variety of fixes (cleaning, tightening, etc) to get it to work. After about 40 minutes of work - it did! He was able to take my very finicky and specialized toilet and work some magic. I would expect the average repairman would have just said it wasn't worth it, and advised me to just get a new one. But Avishay was determined, and I am very grateful. Chastity followed up with me after the work was done to confirm my satisfaction and confirm final cost. At the end of it all, I was charged $250 for an hour of work, and my toilet is fixed! I am delighted, and I will definitely be keeping this company on file for my next repair job.

The job was quite simple, replace kitchen flooring with material provided. The team at DC Handyman confidently said they could do this then proceeded to butcher my floor. There were large gaps, ripped sharp edges, curved lines. The workers used no straight edge, no measurements, and no wood filler while destroying all the material. They could tell we were appointed with the job and left anyway saying there was not much they could do. I requested someone else complete the work, they said someone would come out but after follow ups, this never happened. I requested a partial refund then sadly they stopped responding. I gave them plenty of time to reach back out to me, instead they moved on and ignored my messages.
