i have never been so insulted from a restaurant in my entire life. Went here with my girl and the staff was swearing and cursing after she asked about her options for a hotdog. the girl was dropping f bombs all over the place, saying various snarky, crude remarks. she was a young hipster type girl with dark hair. Delicious food and friendly staff. This place is nestled in a parking lot right across from the 13th & Olive student dorms and close to the bus station. The food is always tasty. I wake up craving these cheezesteaks! The hot dog and polish dog are also good, but its the cheezesteak I dream about. The service is friendly and they work hard to get the stuff out fast and fresh. Only complaint is wishing for more seating but it's worth standing in the rain for! read more

We got the Vegan Philly Cheesesteak and the Tempeh Reuben - both were delicious! The bread was toasty and delicious for the reuben, and the sauce, tempeh and sauerkraut were all perfect. And the cheesesteak was yummers! If I'm ever in Eugene again at lunchtime, I'll be sure to come by! read more

Best falafel ever! Highly recommend. Also have tried the chili cheese fries, highly recommended as well. The food is super cheap for vegan food (other places in the area tend to be twice as much) I'm really excited to come back and try more stuff! The owner is exceptionally nice so customer service is 10/10. Any mistakes are always corrected with no attitude what so ever. Cheesesteak has perfect emulative texture & flavor that would pass a blind test with the real thing. Sweet potato fries seasoned with a nice subtle hint of curry. Rooibos served Thai-style is a tasty, satisfying concept. No seating to speak of --this is a standalone food cart. read more

I applaud the effort to bring vegan and vegetarian food to the residents of Eugene, so there are 2.5 stars just for that. But really, this is a torfurky cart, and I'm being generous with 3 stars. You can buy just about everything on the menu at the store. If you're in a bind and you're looking for vegan or vegetarian food, it's decent stuff, but again, it's basically just reheated torfurky. The cheese steak had a homemade cashew cheese sauce all over it, not sure why to use that when everything else is store bought, it would have been better with daiya cheese shreds. The fake meat might have been accidentally put in from the BBQ container, because it tasted strangely of either BBQ sauce or some sort of spaghetti sauce. My one gripe is that the one dish I had that wasn't tofurky, the reuben, did not blow my mind, in fact, it was very disappointing. It was basically a slab of tempeh with sauerkraut and a strange red sauce. It was neither delicious nor similar to a reuben. I only finished half and couldn't stomach the rest. I really wish this place would start making their own fake meat products, it would really elevate the place, but as it stands, it's just not standing out. read more

While traveling, finding vegan options can be a challenge. But not today - we stopped by Viva Veg on our way south down Highway 5. It was only a 5 minute detour from the highway to this small, stand-alone restaurant with a comfortable, shaded patio area. The menu is completely vegan but has options that would make everyone, vegans and non-vegans alike, happy. I had the maple teriyaki tempeh served over their cilantro cabbage slaw and with their creamy cashew "cheese". This was the best tempeh I've ever had with a sweet and mildly spicy flavor. The cilantro cabbage slaw was light and fresh and a perfect complement to the tempeh. The chocolate and strawberry vegan soft serve ice cream was a perfect dessert! (Note: They rotate flavors of the vegan ice cream). read more

I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, and for 7 of those years I lived in misery in Colorado. The Viva! Vegetarian Grill is a perfect example of why I love Eugene. Not only is it vegetarian friendly, but it's vegetarian done right. And trust me, I've had a lot of vegetarian done wrong. I had the Cheese steak yesterday. The entire thing. It was life changing. I ordered the falafel sandwich and it was delicious. The falafel were good, nice and moist with light crunch on the outside. Overall sandwich was stacked well, had the right ratio of sauce and enough falafel that the last bite wasn't just a sad piece of pita bread. I do wish that the sauce had been placed between the veggies and the falafel, as opposed to on top of the veggies. I was happy to know that their to-go container option did not involve any plastic and was 100% recyclable. Thanks for lunch. I'm looking forward to trying the vegan soft serve. read more

A friend and I went here yesterday. My tempeh reuben was delicous!! I love that they use Daves Killer bread (because that is what I eat at home) The tempeh was seasoned perfectly. My friend got a veggie dog w/grilled onions so I tried that too-yummy stuff. We were offered a sample of the new vegan soft serve and if I hadn't been so full from the reuben I would have had more it was so good. The guy working the counter was really nice & our food was ready really fast. Was so worth the drive across town. read more

Wow this place impressed us! It was a little hard to find, but it was in the parking lot across oak alley from the First Christian Church. We got the tacos (YUM), the sausage and the hot dog (all vegan/vegetarian). The chili cheese fries were the best part, followed closely by the strawberry ice cream (cashew based). Only complaint was there were weird floaties in the tap water we got... but I looked past it when the food was so good. read more

I tried Viva! when they came to a street fair at UO and they were fantastic. I tried a tempeh Reuben, and it wasn't the best tempeh Reuben I've had, but it was definitely good. And I later tried a vegan cheesesteak and it was so good. Definitely a great place for anyone who likes vegetarian food. I can't say anything about the soy sage, though. read more

The staff are friendly but the food is pretty "meh". Nothing I haven't made better at home a thousand times over. I only recommend it if you are in the area and cannot find other vegan options for some reason. Also, they recently got rid of their cones for the vegan ice cream, right before summer! I don't want to order a $4 ice cream just to eat it out of a dixie cup :( read more

I just love this place! Viva Vegetarian serves the absolute best vegan cheesesteak on the planet, period. A big, soft bun filled with griddled, spiced tofurkey "steak" slices, caramelized onions, a delicious sweet orange-colored sauce, and a tangy, scrumptious cashew "cheese" sauce squirted on the top--mmmmm. I like to add a bit of Dave's special hot sauce for some kick that melds nicely with all the other flavors. My hubby actually prefers the BBQ sandwich, himself. It's definitely tasty, as is the vegan footlong (with all the fixin's), but for me it's all about the cheesesteak, hands down. Sometimes I order chili cheese sweet potato fries on the side if I'm especially hungry, and they're quite out of this world. Hubby likes the regular fries, which are also very good. I've yet to try the polish sausage, the tempeh satay, or the reuben. Someday, perhaps. After reading other reviews, I feel I must make a point to order a rooibos on ice with soy milk, as that sounds so refreshingly good. I would love one right now, in fact, or one of those swirled peanut butter and strawberry soft serve ice creams in a cake cone that were so, so divine! Yum! :) read more

This is one of the best food carts in Eugene. It's worth it to have to eat in the parking lot (which is furnished with chairs, a table and a sun/rain shelter. Their menu is remarkably diverse for such a small place and everything I've tried is delicious. I absolutely love this place! I've only been here a few times and each time I got the savory Italian which kept me coming back. I moved from Eugene to Portland not too long ago and will visit from time to time but I soooooo wish there was a Viva! in the Portland food cart scene!! Great food. Just don't get fooled by the $5 foot-long hotdog (it's only 6 inches, trust me, I measured).

There is not a frozen cream quite as good as Viva's Cashew Cream. And, Eugene is home to plenty of wonderful competition.
