MMMM this place was good!!! I love all vegan places like this and its so fun to support the local community. the gentleman working was very friendly and fast. We ordered the Rueben, the philly cheese stake, and the sweet potatoe chilli fries hahha yes I loved it all! it dangerously good and filling!! Although I will warn this is a messy sandwich but well worth it! You don't have to be vegetarian to enjoy the food at Viva. Tried it for the first time today and everything was really yummy. I'm a pretty big fan of barbecue so I tried the hickory barbecue sandwich which held its own against the pulled pork sandwiches I usually get. Even though it was filling, I wasn't left with that heavy feeling I usually get after eating the pork. Really enjoyed the fries with the curry seasoning too. I had the Polish Soysage, which in my head, I was like, this is probably going to taste funky because it's not even real meat n stuff (but then I'm a vegetarian now, I shouldn't complain)... AND I'M NOT. It's sooo good, I haven't had a hot dog in years!! Really delicious. Got the reuben, fries, soft serve. Reuben had great soft tempeh and there was just the right amount of creaminess. Fries were perfect boardwalk style. Soft serve is homemade with real ingredients. Gingeranap soft serve was just like a real moist chewy gingersnap. Molassas and spice n all. Proprieter is also quite a friendly biped. read more

this place is pretty great. the people that work there are always super friendly. the sandwiches are delicious. i wish that they'd use something other than standard tofurkey. perhaps make their own meats or get something local/more fresh. although they do use a local tempeh for their reuben and it's really great. **edit: i was unaware that tofurkey is based in oregon. so thumbs up to that** they have soft serve ice cream and the flavors change regularly. creative flavors too. basically, i'm a really big fan of this place. i wish they were open later though. they close at 5pm. but everything in eugene seems to close earlier than it should. read more

The best accidents are happy ones. Based on Yelp reviews, I'd picked out the Garbanzo Grill for our afternoon eats. But when our schedule ran late, we caught sight of Viva Vegetarian and went for it without checking reviews. So bold. Yet it turned out great, ending up one of our favorite travel finds ever! My wife and I are big fans of Veggie Grill based in LA but expanding everywhere. The best feature of VG is that you can order anything on the menu and be assured that the ingredients are 100% vegan. Even the wicked carrot cake icing. And the buffalo wings. Yes, the ranch dip too! Viva Vegetarian shares some of those qualities. It's great knowing that decadence and vegetarianism don't have to be mutually exclusive! Perfect for when you're craving a faux footlong or brat. When I go back, I know I'm ordering the fake Philly cheesesteak! On this occasion we tried the BBQ sandwich because a sign boasted that the sauce was free of corn syrup. It was sloppy and scrumptious! We raved about that sandwich the rest of our trip. Texture and taste are so important if you're going to create dishes which attempt to replicate their meat equivalents. While I'm not sure a hardcore carnivore would be convinced, we were blown away by what we had. We both expressed sincere wishes that we could tow away the trailer and take it with us when we left. There are too many more dishes to try! The only downside is the upside: when we dropped by, the cart was hit by a wave of hunger and the poor girl behind the counter was swamped. She did her best and the customers were cool, even on a broiling (for Eugene) sunburst spring afternoon. So while you might first guess that you've stumbled upon a hidden gem, leave it to Eugenians to seek out and support this tasty hideaway on the edge of downtown. To start this review off, I would like to say I am neither Vegetarian or Vegan, but this place is delicious for anyone! We stopped here after getting tattoos done at The Parlour right down the street, so we needed to regain some energy. We got the tacos and the Philly Cheesesteak. Both were SO GOOD! Honestly, with vegan and vegetarian food my main concern was that there would be a lack of flavor. Well, I need not to worry any longer! The flavor in these dishes was superb. Everything I have tried since is also great. We have returned many times, both eating there and taking it home. There is a little seating area to the left of the cart that can be nice on a sunny warm day (but let's be realistic, those days are limited here), so we usually just get ours to go. I highly recommend this if you are down in that area around lunch time! Give it a try and I doubt you'll be disappointed! read more

These guys had a good showing at the Organic Beer Fest @ Overlook Park this weekend. They hail from Eugene, and said they will be opening a B&M down there, presently. We tried their hickory smoked (soy curl) hoagie, and their Tempeh Rueben... both were tasty and kept well to be enjoyed and finished later. The kraut on the Rueben was surprisingly mild--- I would have preferred more of a vinegary kick , but over all that was a pretty dang good non-meat sammie. I have no idea what it has to do with Arizona, however. Maybe, being a college town (Tempe), it appeals especially to co-eds, as it undoubtedly also does in Viva's home town of Eugene, also a college town? Jokes... ;p read more

All vegan! I would leave it at that, but I have only tried a few of their sandwiches (which were ok but not great, probably having to do with the fact that I rarely eat bread and almost never bread with protein i.e. seitan). To put myself in the shoes of a sandwich enthusiast, I would say that the meatball sandwich is great. I could tell it was prepared with love and that the sauce was impressive. But their claim to fame is their coffee- and vanilla- flavored soft-serve. Decadent and served in solo cups or conventional-looking ice-cream cones (which are vegan of course). The Viva! Vegetarian Grill Food Cart is a new fantastic lunch option for Eugene. We've sampled Dave's food cart offerings at festivals and fairs, but never been able to get them on a regular basis. Now you can find it downtown at 12th and Willamette from 11-4 Monday through Friday. The food cart offers various vegetarian/vegan sandwiches, including a polish "sausage," a tempeh Reuben with vegan thousand island, tempeh and sauerkraut, tofu dogs, and my personal favorite, a vegan Philly cheesesteak with caramelized onions and a vegan cashew cheese. My husband loves the cheesesteak so much that I think he's going to be eating here on a regular basis several times a week. We've given the cheesesteak to a friend who eats meat, and he loved the vegan version. The cart also has a grilled tempeh satay with a peanut sauce, which I liked, as well as various teas and organic locally made bottled juices. It's a super fast lunch as you'll get your order in a matter of minutes. The cart's owner, Dave, is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. We just love, love, love this place! Yummy food cart offerings with friendly people. My favorites are the tempeh Rueben and the tempeh tacos (with a drizzle of the optional mango habanero hot sauce). My husband loves the BBQ sandwich. And, the soft serve is absolutely fabulous! I try very hard to follow a vegan diet, and this place makes it unbelievably easy! There is a small sitting area next to the cart, with an awning to keep you dry in the drizzle or cool in the sun. read more

My favorite treat in Eugene is an ice cream cone from Viva!, and some of their sweet potato fries (the spices on them are perfect!) with their house made cheesauce. That stuff is insanely delicious. My boyfriend and I go through the sauce fairly quickly, and when it's gone we dip our french fries in the ice cream. We have a pretty good system down. Sometime in the near future, we'll have to buy a jar of the cheesauce. We have big plans for it, drizzled on top of broccoli, over baked potatoes, in lasagna, on nachos... I am on a quest to try every flavor of ice cream that Viva offers. Thus far, I've had Licorice, Chocolate, Pumpkin Piescream, Chocolate Chipotle, Oregon hazelnut, Purple Haze (blueberry), and Orange Dream. Oregon hazelnut has been my favorite so far, followed closely by licorice and pumpkin. I think cashew based ice cream is the ultimate as far as non dairy ice creams go, which is what Viva offers. They change up the flavors pretty frequently, and I'm looking forward to what the future holds. Sandwich-wise, I've only had the polish sausage, which was tasty, but my favorite part were the caramelized onions piled atop of it. I would rather have sweet potato fries than a sandwich, although people who are into mock meats will be pleased with their options. The owner of this food cart is extremely nice, as are the employees, and if you show up via bicycle, you get 50 cents off our sandwich. Neat! read more

Amazing vegan food. I love their vegan cheesy sauce. I bought a jar to take home and put it on things like noodles and potatoes. It's amazing. I love their vegan ice cream. They change their flavors but the first flavor i tried was vanilla chai and it was really good. Super creamy and only tasted like the flavors because they use a cashew base so it doesn't taste like coconut or beans it just tastes like yummy ice cream. Their fries are also amazing. They put garlic salt or something on them and they're super crispy. Really delicious. I love their chilly fries. Very filling though. You might want to get some foil to take to go. If i'm getting fries as a side though i get their sweet potato fries and they are also very good. My favorite is their philly cheesesteak. So amazing. It's probably their best thing on their menu. If you're going their for the first time i recommend getting this. Overall i have to give this place 5 stars even though their thai iced tea sucks. It's not that sweet and they use soy milk which is way too thin. Thai iced tea should be super sweet and creamy. Not watery and bitter. But they're a food cart and their food is sooooooooo amazing that it over rides that small bump. read more

It took me awhile, but I finally got my ass down to Viva again, this time to try their Savory Italian. It was one of the most satisfying lunches I have had in a long time. Flavorful, satisfying and almost more than one person can eat...but that didn't stop me. Followed up with a few bites of my daughter's Peanut Butter fro yo and I could return home a very happy girl. For those of you that like Peanut Butter ice cream, get down to Viva. I love Viva for their food, the easy going atmosphere they provide and the exceptional service offered up by the staff. The cart is owner is a real stand up guy, just trying to make a living serving quality, oft times local and gluten free food to the masses. Stop by and get something, you certainly won't regret getting the Tempeh Satay. I could have swore it was raining though, where's my dollar off? I guess that would have made my tempeh only $1.50, which is almost criminal for such an appetizing piece of tofu on a stick. "The Revolution Starts Here" - that's the motto of Viva! Veg Grill. And it sure does! I ordered the Vegan Cheesesteak and African Roobios Tea (Thai Iced Tea Style). The ingredients of the vegan cheesesteak are creamed up cashews as the cheese and tofu as the steak. Really good sandwich! Now you can't compare it to the real thing, bc it probably won't compare, but it's good in its own right. My favorite was the African roobios tea - chilled tea, almond milk, and sweetener. Never thought of this combo but I'm gonna make it at home! It's my new drink! read more

This place is about a mile from my house, and I hate walking, but I go here on a nearly weekly basis for the TLC burrito. It's a filling burrito and under 8 bucks, which I consider to be moderate to high price, but more on the moderate side, I'll pay 10 for a good vegan meal. Anyway I try to order other stuff on the menu but I always go back to the TLC because it leaves me feeling full and it's got a heavy taste without me feeling super sluggish afterwards, but energized. All of the menu items are vegan, it's a good location downtown. All in all I go here when I want to treat myself to american style vegan food, and I love supporting local businesses. Staff is friendly, and they have a few tables to sit outside and enjoy this warm spring weather. read more

Meh! Cons: Food was awful, an overdry tofu dog drowning in too much white bread bun. Boring mustard. Although it says 'Vegetarian Grill' there aren't many vegetables here unless you count cabbage-y cole slaw. Everything else is white bread, soy based, something with sauce. They got rid of the small cones (the only other thing I've tried) which were delish, a great treat, so now $4 cones which are expensive. I love Viva. Their polish soysuage. is incredible. This is a great place for the veggies in Eugene who are looking for something a little hearty. You can also order it for delivery through the Cascadian Courier Collective which is neat. I always talk to this guy, Dave, on the phone and he always sounds pretty serious, but it's become my favorite part of getting Viva because I can be cold back and feel like we aren't screwing around about my food. Pretty good vegan fast food. My main complaint is that sometimes it can take half my lunch break to get my food because the person working does a lot of 'stop & chat' with me or other people coming up to the cart. Please just make my tempeh tacos(which are delicious) so I can sit and enjoy them instead of wolfing them down so I can get back to work on time. read more
