    Takoyaki(6)

Vivi's Takoyaki isn't the best but for $6, you can get 6. It'll satisfy your cravings for sure. Of course you're not going to get the best ingredients like chunks of octopus but the flavor is there. Their popcorn chicken is definitely a hit. Tip - takoyaki must be eaten fresh! If you wait too long, it's definitely not that great. Same goes for the popcorn chicken. It will get soggy.

Vivi's bright interior is very welcoming and offers a great variety of drinks and snacks! I love the popcorn chicken and Taiwanese sausage! There are 5 flavors for the popcorn chicken and you can't go wrong with any. The spicy version is definitely very spicy and would stay away if you cannot handle any spice. My favorites were the curry and garlic. The drinks are also pretty good and it complements the snacks very well especially if you order a refreshing fruity drink.

    Matcha red bean milk tea

We just picked up takeout from MDM Noodles and wanted to round of our meal with a drink. Enter, Vivi bubble tea, just diagonally across the street. Lots of good options on the menu. But we wanted some "original" flavors (no Oreos, or creme brulee, haha). So we opted for a large size of the red bean matcha milk tea, no ice, and with 70% sugar. Even though we had already picked up dinner, we were too tempted by their popcorn chicken and added that to our order too. You can pick any one of FIVE flavors, woah! Salt-pepper, spicy, garlic, curry, basil. After a quick flavor playoff in our mind, garlic won in the end! The whole order took only a few minutes, they were super quick and friendly behind the counter (and it felt nice to order in person versus a screen, after so many months). The food and drink were both great! The sugar level of the bubble tea was how we like it and the quantity was good too. You get a lot of popcorn chicken in that portion. The only thing missing was probably a dipping sauce (my favorite!) but not a big deal because the chicken had enough flavor on its own. We'll be back to try more! Pro tip: The menu on the outside of the shop is not the most recent, make sure to check the one inside.

Mango Slush & Jasmine Honey Tea (Aug 2020)

I'll make the occasional stop at Vivi's when visiting my hometown of Brighton, MA. Though this staple hasn't been open for very long, I'll say it's a great addition to Brighton Center and definitely can satisfy a craving. I have tried a variety of tea's from here, and can say the Kumquat Lemon is by far my favorite (I prefer fruit based boba drinks). I have also tried various types of slush, strawberry, jasmine honey, and taro. All very good. This shop also offers special teas that come with diced fruit, and while creative, I will say it does overpower the drink a bit.

Such a cute and clean boba shop! Sorely needed in the Brighton area since most bubble tea places congregate by Harvard Ave. There's quite a few seats as well, along with plenty of outlets by the window bar. I tried the Japanese Matcha Milk Tea with boba. The drink came out very quickly and definitely satisfied my taste buds. I will definitely be back, and next time, I plan to try one of their many food offerings including sausage, takoyaki, and fried chicken. They were not too busy on a Saturday mid morning, but I'm sure once more people find out they will get busier. There is a loyalty card, which can helps me decide where to get boba. Overall, a very welcome addition to Brighton.

It's my first time trying their jelly tea! I ordered the pineapple grapefruit jelly tea! Jelly tea is pretty much having small chunks of jello. It's good though! They have a variety of boba tea selections and they have a kitchen menu. I tried all the 5 flavors of popcorn chicken, curly fries, Taiwanese sausage and takoyaki! It was all yummy! Great snacks and boba tea!

    Tiramisu milk tea with tapioca

Vivi Bubble Tea has great Taiwanese popcorn chicken. I had a craving for this yummy appetizer, so I placed a take order consisting of garlic popcorn chicken and a tiramisu milk tea with boba. Garlic is one of several flavors offered at Vivi - the other flavors include salt and pepper, curry, and basil. The popcorn chicken portion size is generous. The breading has a delicious, but not overwhelming garlic flavor. In addition, every chunk had a large amount of juicy meat in it. Definitely will come back for another order of popcorn chicken and will probably try the other flavors. I liked my tiramisu milk tea. At 30% sugar, it was not very sweet (intentionally) and there were slight overtones of coffee. I wasn't too impressed with the boba that day - they were mushy for my liking, but it's possible that it could have been the day too. Minus the boba, the drink itself was fine. Overall, Vivi is a decent place for both snacks and drinks. Not every bubble tea shop offers its variety of snacks.

I like Vivi. Their drinks are good and their cups are cute. Oh and the staff is nice. My boyfriend and I visited Vivi a little before COVID-19 shut everything down. We were the only 2 customers which was peculiar for a weekend night. We opted for one of their fruit teas and flaming brown sugar milk. The fruit tea was refreshing, sweet and filled with bits of fruit, jelly and aloe. I forgot to lower the sweetness so their regular sweetness level is definitely too sweet for my liking. The flaming brown sugar milk drink was cool - since we were the only ones there we asked if they could torch the drink in front of us and they obliged. I love how they brulee'd the top as it definitely makes for a cool drink. The milk was also not overwhelmingly sweet which was nice and the tapioca balls were also the perfect texture. I'm for sure a fan and would return again.

    Taro Creme Brulee

Holy moly, with only one other customer in the place still had to wait 20 minutes for 2 teas. How can you take that long to make bubble tea?? I ordered the Taro creme brulee and the 3Q. Based on the menu, I'm not sure how I was supposed to know the creme brulee didn't have boba. Also the woman making it held the torch to it for literally half a second, so there was no creme brulee on this creme brulee milk tea. How can you take 20 minutes to make a tea and then give up at the end??? And on top of it all, the woman was so rude! Moving at a glacial pace and seemed like she rather be anywhere else. Based on the positive reviews, I'm assuming other staff provide a different experience so maybe I will give another shot during a different shift. If the woman working Saturday around 5 is reading this, follow your dreams, and please let them take you far away from the service industry.

PLUS, they close later than both. I have this bad habit of going here almost every time I have a meal in the area LOL. The addiction is real! I love that they keep adding new drinks to their menu... keeps it interesting. My favorite is still the Mango Coconut Boom but I'm a fan of most of their new drinks, like the Golden Oolong Yuzu & their King Jasmine Guava! I tried the Pistachio Cloud Jasmine Coconut, as well, and it's super similar to one of my favorites from MollyTea. I prefer the one from MollyTea more w/ champaca tea. Since their opening here, I have tried almost all of the drinks & their mango coconut boom is STILL superior! Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys mango. It is pretty much their version of mango pomelo sago (they have a version with pomelo but I like it without). SO GOOD! ***Pro tip: order ahead of time via HeyTea app. This is a lifesaver, since the wait time is pretty atrocious most days still. Usually takes ~20 min to be ready.

We ended up getting two strawberry cream mochi, one mango cream mochi, and the mango pomelo sago. The sago was definitely on the expensive side for the portion, but it absolutely hit the spot and satisfied the craving. The mochi was the real star. The outer layer was soft, chewy, and pillowy, while the filling was light, creamy, and not overly sweet. The strawberry cream mochi tasted fresh and delicate, and the mango version was rich, fruity, and refreshing. Each one felt like biting into a little cloud. The mango pomelo sago was creamy and packed with mango flavor, making for a nice contrast to the mochi. Fresh mochi with matcha cream and taro paste, rolled in butter crunch flakes. The order took more than a few minutes to get ready, and it's a little hard to know if your order is ready because there is no visual indicator (a screen displaying order numbers would be so helpful). The staff also wasn't the most careful with the way they were using gloves, they touched their face, the register etc etc. Plus the place is small without any seating so it can get crowded and you don't even know how much time for your order to be ready. The ones from Banh Mi Cafe are enormous, sooo fresh, and exactly what I wish mine tasted like. Both the fish sauce and the peanut sauce are excellent, and when I need to bring something to a summer potluck but don't have time to cook, I just order six orders of spring rolls and suddenly everyone at the potluck is happy. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is also absolute jet fuel. It's my go-to whenever I need to work a late night. But the reason I'll always be loyal to Banh Mi Café has nothing to do with the food. ::IT'S STORYTIME:: One evening I developed an absolutely irrational craving for their avocado smoothie with boba. I spent the whole day thinking about it, finally placed an online order, and then got a phone call saying they had just run out. They apologized and offered a replacement or a refund. Instead, I asked them a weird question: "I know this is kind of crazy...but if you'll have avocado again on Saturday, could you just make this exact order then instead, and I'll come pick it up?" To my surprise, they said yes. A couple of days later, I picked up my avocado smoothie, my fresh spring rolls, and went home happy. Maybe it was more work than it was worth for the employee, maybe it wasn't; either way, they took an odd request seriously, and that's the kind of customer service that sticks with you. Beyond the spring rolls, I've also really enjoyed the nem chua, the cold cut banh mi (I wish the bread were a little softer, but the condiments and veggies are excellent), and the grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves, which I hadn't tried before and now LOVE. I still have a growing list of desserts to work through, including the flan. One thing to know before you go, regarding ambiance: this is more of a grab-and-go spot, not somewhere to settle in for lunch. There are only a few bar seats, so I almost always take my food with me, sometimes to the nearby park. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants around Boston, and while I'll always happily try new ones, Banh Mi Cafe has earned my loyalty, one avocado smoothie at a time.
