I walked in with my kid and not a greeting from the lady behind the cash wrap/food area. Her answers to our questions were short and very cold. My daughter wanted soy sauce and when I asked she screwed up her face and said in a cynical tone that they don't have that there. I got their special signature Coffee Jelly Bubble Milk Tea! I liked the flavor, not too strong of a coffee flavor but also not too mild. I got the small size with 50% sugar level and less ice. I didn't really see a point for the coffee jelly along with the tapioca, because the coffee jelly didn't really add anything, not even that much flavor. Unlike my friends, I'm not the biggest fan of bubble tea (#BubbleTeaNotForMe). BUT THEN. I decided...why not give it another shot. I saw grapefruit pulp green tea on their TV menu, and I was like ok that with bubbles in a medium why not (with no sugar). And it was mind-blowingly good. Perfect balance of sweetness and bitter/sweetness from actual chunks of grapefruit. Fast and yummy! I used to avoid Vivi unless I was really desperate but now I go at least once a week for the Blue Galaxy, Strawberry Lemon Tea, Taro slush with red beans or a Mango green tea! I've been to a handful of smaller bubble tea chain stores throughout the city but I was surprised to realize I hadn't been to ViVi before! My girlfriend and I found our way here when she had a particular craving for their chicken of all things! To be fair we had just walked by a picture of it and it did look pretty appetizing. We walked up to the register and ordered their popcorn chicken. They had four different flavors to choose from and we ended up going with the salt and pepper choice. Overall the chicken was really tasty! Piping hot and plentiful, we were both able to enjoy a generous portion from the same bag. It comes with two tiny wooden tongs that you're able to pick chicken pieces with. Definitely a great snack to enjoy on the go, or right before having something sweet. This location however was a little bit dirty. When we decided to sit in and enjoy what we ordered it looked as if they hadn't cleaned the tables in sometime. The one thing I enjoyed the most about this location was the vibe. Though you would have to wait out some people to be able to grab a spot to sit this was the perfect location to meet up with my friends and debrief on our day. The seating area was very comfy with the benches having a really nice cushion to them. I was saddened to see on my most recent trip that they have removed the seating area as I remembered it and it really took away from the comforting vibe of the store. Getting your food or drink always takes a bit of time even when they're not too busy but they usually are busy so be prepared to wait a little. In terms of food, I really enjoy all of their teas and they have a pretty great selection. Their boba pearls are always super fresh and tasty as well.
