I have attended two Christmas parties here and have had such a nice time both times. It is a really big venue where several parties could be happening at the same time. This year our holiday party was on the second floor which had a really nice view. I actually enjoyed the food very much this year; the penne allá vodka was creamy, the salmon was also one of my favorites. Our families has a long-standing Christmas Eve tradition of celebrating at a fine dining restaurant, so this year we booked a table for 16 at VIVO. I had dined there years ago and remembered the beautiful setting of the Valentino Mansion, which was indeed elegantly decorated for the holiday. We arrived on time at 6:00 PM, were seated promptly, and had several young children with us. Unfortunately, that is where the positive experience ended. Despite repeated inquiries about the status of our meals, our food did not arrive until 8:36 PM--two hours and thirty‑six minutes after we sat down. By then, everyone was exhausted and hungry. Some of us ate quickly just to get through the meal, while others packed their dinners to go. I want to acknowledge that the few servers working that night were doing everything they could. They were attentive, apologetic, and clearly frustrated on our behalf. The issue appeared to be in the kitchen; it seemed they were severely understaffed for a fully booked holiday evening. If a restaurant cannot properly accommodate a full house, especially on a major holiday, they should not accept reservations they are unable to support. After planning our celebratory dinner in advance, the level of service we received felt deeply disappointing. The food itself was fine--tasty enough, but nothing exceptional. Vivo recently re-opened as a "restaurant"; they had continued doing their catering while the restaurant was closed. So how is the "new" Vivo? Well, dining there felt like attending a preview performance of the next blockbuster Broadway show. The atmosphere, as always, is quiet and elegant, allowing easily for quiet conversation although they have to work on their choice of background music. This is more of a Vivaldi place than the song "Hair" from the musical of the same name. The service staff was extremely courteous and professional but they also seemed newly trained and trying their best not to make an error. They only made one error during the meal, and recognized it, serving the drink that was requested with a "twist" with olives instead, but it wasn't really a problem. Apart from that the service was the type you'd honestly expect only in the finest restaurants. They used to refer to it as "white glove service". Fortunately, the excellence continued into the kitchen. The chickpea fritters were exceptional as was the calamari. Both were large enough for two people to share. Our entrees were the Codfish and the Chicken Francese. The cod was excellent. The chicken was excellent as well and the pasta that it was over was even better, cooked al dente with a magnificent lemon sauce. Dessert was an Apple Tart that also was excellent. The restaurant also offers a complementarity bread basket with excellent accompanying olive oil. Another thing; everything tasted freshly prepared and not reheated. The dishes we ordered are dishes that frequently are prepared in advanced and reheated resulted in uneven heating. That was definitely not the case here. Everything seemed evenly heated throughout showing a great deal of care in the kitchen. Prices are are bargain with most appetizers in the teens (and sharable) and most entrees in the 20's. The menu is limited and no daily specials were available but with dining establishments struggling these days, that's fine. The restaurant was quite empty since they had recently reopened a day or two earlier and word hadn't spread yet. So, if you don't mind attending the next Broadway blockbuster when it is still in previews, NOW would be the time to pay Vivo a visit. read more

In a word, NO!! Went last night for our anniversary. The last time we went it was either Valentino's or Patrizia's, about 10 yrs ago, when I got food poisoning. Figured as it was local we would try it again. At 7 pm we were 2/5 guests in the restaurant. Empty is an understatement. Servers were very young and inexperienced and he kept on asking me to repeat myself because they barely understood English. My entree came out totally wrong and I specifically mentioned I was allergic to a certain spice which was in the sauce and veggies. Server never checked with chef i assume. Some time ago, someone recommended this restaurant to me, but I hadn't been able to visit. This week, I finally did, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dinning experiences I've ever had. I wasn't sure what to order, but the waitress, Valentina, gave me the best recommendations. She was very professional, and I loved that. I also met the bartender, Rodrigo--I let him prepare his favorites for me, and I really enjoyed them. All the cocktails were amazing. The food was wonderful; it had been a long time since I enjoyed a meal as much as I did this one. I'll definitely tell my friends about it, and without a doubt, I'll be back soon! My wife and I went to the New Years Eve 2025 celebration with a couple of friends. It was an all-inclusive buffet event. The buffet was poorly organized. 20 minute wait in a long line for the 1st course. They made an adjustment for the main course calling table by table, but still not great. Whereas the food was very good, a seated venue as in previous years would have been much better. Vivo! Mediterranean Bar & Grill is in Bayside, NY and was the Venue/Establishment in which some of us were invited to attend a Private Holiday Party. When I say that we had a good time, I definitely mean that we had a fabulous time-lol. Vivo! Is a gorgeous place w/ delicious food + beautiful ambience. Several of us traveled together to get to Vivo! Mediterranean Bar & Grill. Vivo is along the Cross Island Parkway and it is easy accessible via driving as well as it being close to the Q16 Bus. We took the F train to the Parsons train station stop and received a ride the rest of the way to Vivo. Although it was crowded w/ quite a few cars, it was easy to find a parking spot w/ in their private parking space area on their spacious property. It teally is a nice restaurant in one section and then a separate area has the private rooms that one can rent to have events (parties, etc.) The outdoor area can also be used to have outdoor weddings, Sweet 16 Parties, etc. We proceed to go upstairs to the party. Vivo has gorgeous decor in the form of elegant chandeliers, pretty lighting arrangements w/ cool Christmas decorations, etc. The Holiday Party Room that we were in had colorful balloons, a photo booth (we had a great time taking pictures im the booth), a nicely-sized dance floor + beautifully set-up table/seating arrangements. Vivo's Catering Service was exceptionally wonderful. Everyone had a customized menu near their individual seat/plate setting. The Four Course Meal included Bread & Butter as the Starter + consisted of the following: 1st Course: Rocket Arugula Salad - Candied Walnuts, Shaved Apples, Crumbled Gorgonzola w/ Mustard Vinaigrette. 2nd Course: Pasta- Penne Ala Vodka, San Marzano Tomatoes + Cream Parmigiano. 3rd Course: (Choose One Entree) - 1.) We were very excited to celebrate the baptism of our first child at Vivo Saturday may 3rd However, we were highly disappointed with a number of things that occurred. For starters, upon arriving to the venue, the room was NOT ready for us to enter with our guests. We were not allowed up to the room until an almost an HOUR later. The room was still being fixed from the party prior and none of the tables were ready, the DJ was not able to set up and the table numbers were not set up correctly. When they finally allowed us upstairs, people were being moved from their spots because the tables were labeled incorrectly. After the tables were fixed and people were in their correct spots, butter was placed on the table and bread did not come out until the salads came out, meaning appetizers had already been served at this point. The appetizers were being brought out to the tables and the food was cold and the artichokes had a sour after taste. After doing a round to make sure everyone was served, my wife had to speak with the staff because two tables did not receive ANY appetizers. It should not have been our responsibility to make sure all tables received food. The salads were brought to the tables, however my table did not receive 2 salads, for my wife and sister-in-law. The pasta was then brought out and was room temperature. Finally at 10:15pm, the entrees were served; cold. The chicken francese was not what we expected at all. It was more like a chicken cutlet with barely any lemon-wine sauce. The branzino was burnt and hard. Since the event was supposed to end at 11, dinner was rushed. Some people were waiting for their meals and mingling or dancing and by the time they got to the table, their uneaten meal had already been taken away by the waiters. We asked that the DJ and photographer be fed, and neither of them received any food throughout the entire night. The maître d was nowhere to be found and should have been responsible for making sure they were fed since i clearly asked and paid for them to be fed . After the dinner plates were collected, the dessert was brought out 10:45pm. The pastries were brought to the tables and then the cake was being cut to serve. When the cake was finally delivered with no utensils, guests had to wait for the staff to come around with some. The pastries my mother-in-law made were not brought out until we asked for them to be placed on the tables. Guests were opening and eating them as the DJ was packing up. Most people did not receive coffee as this was the last thing to come around and by this point it was past 11:00pm. Overall, this event was completely rushed and insufficient for the price I paid to have my child's first baptism here. I am highly dissatisfied with the entire event and my guests were as well . read more

Do you know what is so sad about Vivo? When the current owners first took over they had the BEST chef! It was like the best of Manhattan had come to Bayside. That lasted a very short time because they should have done backflips to keep the chef, but they let him leave and that was their biggest mistake. Second mistake, was not replacing him with a competent chef. Your chef is 90% of your success! The remaining 10% is your waitstaff/service. I'm guessing that your private parties keep you in business because it's certainly not your restaurant. Such a shame! You were so close to having an outstanding restaurant early on. I booked my husband's 35th birthday dinner here and there was a group of 10. My husband and I have been wanting to try Vivo and figured this was a good occasion to celebrate outside on their patio. I called a week before to book and they were very accommodating over the phone. I even called the day of to confirm our reservation. We arrived and they acted surprised to see us. The woman at the host stand mentioned to the other host "I don't know what's going on I'm tired." To our surprise they did have our table ready but there was a full blown wedding cocktail hour on the patio. Our table was right next to it and we had balloons. My group and I felt terrible and uncomfortable. The wedding guests were giving us weird looks respectfully. I immediately went to the host stand and asked if we should come inside so we are not in the way. They reassured us it wouldn't be a problem as the group was headed upstairs. We were served water and bread/olive oil after waiting about 20 minutes. The cocktails also took a very long time and our drinks came out at all different times. The food overall was not impressive. We got the baked clams appetizer it was basically stove top stuffing inside, calamari was sub par, the Mediterranean salad was the best appetizer we had. Entrees were again subpar and nothing special. Salmon was fishy, steaks were overcooked. We constantly felt like we were forgotten about since we were seated at a random table outside alone. I brought in our own dessert and it was another 20 minute wait between singing happy birthday and eating the cake. I understand they had a wedding going on but if you do not have the proper staff they shouldn't also seat tables. The waiter was trying his best but he was not set up for success with the situation he was given last night. I hate to write negative reviews, but this experience was unfortunate. I feel this place could have potential as it is a beautiful place. We unfortunately will not be back due to this experience. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. They accommodated us (a group of 14) with every request we had. We wanted to sit outside, granted; we wanted a special limited menu, granted; we kept changing things on the menu, granted. The staff was more than amazing during the meal as well. The food was amazing-- Cesar salad, calamari, meatballs, stuffed clams... everything was awesome! The sangria was so delayed! I probably couldn't drank the whole pitcher each entree that was prepared was so good! And the dessert was beyond delicious! Went for the first time based on a suggestion from my partner. We asked for bar seating. The venue was elegant and beautiful, everything I had heard from my companion. Ordered a variety of dishes and a bottle of wine. Everything was splendid from Rodrigo, our bartender to the food - although the octopus was slightly over-cooked and tad tougher than I'd like, but definitely not enough to send back... That is until a waitress behind the bar knocked over my full glass of wine directly onto my lap, soaking my pants and shirt. While she was understandably apologetic and flustered...the only thing the bartender and waitress did was to offer me a bunch of dry napkins. Having heard of our less than desirable experience, Kevin, the proprietor of Vivo, reached out to me personally and generously offered to make our next visit a memorable one and to handle my cleaning bills (unaccepted). While I was initially perturbed by a lack of an apology from the manager, I found out that management was not informed of the accident, an issue Kevin has assured me would be addressed. While the evening could have been better without the mishap, the owner's personal acknowledgment and efforts to assuage any issues have shown me that my experience was a one off and not a norm. I'm very grateful to ownership for reaching out to me and more than satisfied with their efforts. We totally love Vivo's, we are there at least once a week. We have had numerous events there, such as our son's wedding, anniversaries, and birthdays. The staff at Vivo's could not be any nicer or attentive. The food is terrific, and they have no issues if you want to change something on the menu or custom make it. I had a terrible experience at this restaurant for thanksgiving lunch. They offered a buffet for $75 with gratuity and Taxes included on the phone when I called making a reservation. Got to the restaurant, and the selection was so small and the food was terrible. The service was very disappointing as well.They didn't even clear our table when we had new plates.When I asked for the check, I saw that they added a automatic 20% gratuity. I told them that on the phone this is not what they told me. they didn't care and said that's not true. Very upset that I had to pay even though the service and food was terrible. They definitely up charge for food and give a horrible service and force you to pay 20% tip. This is honestly the worst restaurant I've been to. read more

Came here for a surprise birthday dinner that a friend's husband and family threw for her. We had quite a large party of people and had made the reservation a good week in advance. Our party of 15 including two children were promptly seated and given bread. For appetizers we ordered the grilled octopus, two orders of calamari, two orders of meatballs, two orders of their mussels, and an order of their crab cakes. Out of all the appetizers. The mussels, calamari, and grilled octopus really stood out and had the best flavor imo. Would definitely get them again. Entrée wise, our group had orders of pumpkin ravioli, lobster linguini arrabita, filet mignon, chicken scarpariello, and rigatoni. The order of chicken was rather large and the ladies that ordered it took most of it home. I was disappointed with my order of the lobster inguini arrabita as they gave one tiny claw piece and the rest were flat bits of lobster. The linguini that came with it was a slightly over cooked, and the flavors were ok. My friend that ordered the rigatoni only took a couple of bites and didn't end up taking it with her. The ravioli and steak were the entrées that ended up being finished, with the rest of the table packing food to go. I had a good experience here. It's a great place to bring a date as it offers tasty Italian cuisine with a nice atmosphere. They have a patio outside that opens around 7 so that's a major plus. The meal comes with delicious focaccia served with rosemary olive oil - a great way to start the meal. For an appetizer I got the beef/pork meatballs which were fantastic. For my main course i got the chicken scarpiello. It had a good flavor profile, my only complaint was that the chicken was a little chewy. Next time I think I'll either get fish or the rack of lamb. FYI they have a patio so you can eat outside after 7pm. Just don't come too close to 7pm as they just start opening up and we did wait a while and have to ask to get service. read more

Fantastic place for brunch. The decor is classy & modern. The staff was exceptionally friendly & profession. The menu was reasonably priced & had a nice assortment of food. My only complaint is that the French Toast on the menu didn't mention in the description that it HAS NUTS. The person who ordered that was highly allergic & the menu nor waiter advised during the order process that it came with nuts. It was an easy switch of plates amongst my party (I switched my avocado toast with French toast), but still there should be notice that the French toast comes with nuts. A.V.O.I.D. Came here with family for dinner and well first things first: they wanted to seat us literally right next to the main entrance. Broken chairs and shitty looking table next to the door and what can be presumed as a blocked off place for storage. Thankfully we moved into the dining room. I don't understand why they didn't set us up there in the first place (no, there weren't many people in the restaurant, probably like 5 people max) Anyways, the food was below average. The appetizers were decent. We got the: grilled octopus - 7/10, grilled octopus bruchetta - 5/10 (it's just ceviche on bread lol), fried calamari - 4/10, crab cakes - 2/10 (IT DOESNT EVEN TASTE LIKE CRAB), and some other things but clearly not good if I can't even remember. Entrees were.... yeah, terrible. Let me ask you, how much lemon does one put in Shrimp Scampi? The shrimp scampi was so sour, it was as if they boiled the pasta in lemon juice and finished with - you guessed it! - lemon juice! Every bite was biting into an expired lemon. The 13oz rib eye special was clearly not what you'd expect. The steak temperature was great, a nice medium rare - with no salt, pepper, seasoning and oh it definitely tasted like a BOILED steak. Now the braised short ribs. 100000000% was not ready to be served. Braised short ribs or anything braised should give you a meat that can easily be broken apart with a fork or spoon. Well, someone give me a knife because the short ribs were tough and tasted like pure dry beef. Lacked good garlic and anchovy taste. How much does lettuce cost? Could be larger. But....simple Linguine with Clams...the pasta was 'home made'. These were not linguine noodles. Dish came out nicely presented. However knew something was up when the pasta was congealed. Could not taste any garlic or white wine. Sometimes the simplest dish is the most difficult. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving here with my family. From the moment we walked in the door we were given a warm welcome by the maitre d. This was my first time at Vivo and the interior is gorgeous, it was an old mansion owned by a 1940's silent film star, later purchased by Fiorello LaGuardia and transformed through the years to this catering and event space. The food selection was great, they had Thanksgiving classics like Turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing with some Italian food as well. Everything was fresh, delicious and high quality. Price was unbeatable for Thanksgiving buffet in NYC. Not to mention the service was attentive and friendly. I hope to make it a tradition to come back with my family every Thanksgiving. I totally understand the economy changed and supplies for restaurant are more expensive, due to the reality of the world, more here that we live in NY, But how can you be on charge of a restaurant in a nice location, well equipped, and have such a bad food quality, awful service and a idiot manager that couldn't check if the tables have water? we went to celebrate a birthday party, I brought the birthday cake (thankfully was the only thing acceptable to eat) anyways we were a group of 10 people with a previous reservation made in advance, and this very underrated restaurant with only 5 tables occupied in the room where we were sitting, there was a wedding upstairs, and no staff apparently, couldn't get the Shit together, we are a family group with kids, I have no idea why they couldn't deliver enough water, the sparkling water never made it to the table only the first time when we got there, my 13 months old baby was the only one safe because she had a water bottle in her bag, then the apps come to the table, the octopus was tiny, hard texture, calamari with yogurt dip! How dare you? The wrong salad that we never ordered, I have to say the menu is fixed they don't give you choice of sides only a gross mashed potatoes, we waited for the entrees a long time more than 1 hour, they had no idea what plates we ordered, the birthday Girl didn't get the right plate she wanted, she didn't care she accepted the one the lady brought her, my husband got the steak with a gross glaze over it and it was ice cold, I got the veal ossobuco which was old, reheated, over the crappiest mashed potatoes loaded with rosemary, who loads mashed potatoes with rosemary? And very uncooked carrots, My daughter had very dry meatballs, the rest of the table complained about their food, the waitress asked not kidding 5 times who ordered raviolis and we told her 5 times we Didn't order raviolis... After 2,5 hrs in that table trying to be patient and with our mouths dryer than the Sahara, I asked to one of the servers to please bring the cake, we finally sang Happy birthday! Wishing to leave the place soon, unexpectedly they left the cake on the table for 20 minutes with no knife, plates or utensils, staff disappeared, and we waited and waited again! Until the moment I had to say Do we have to scream in this place can we please have some f* plates and forks, the cherry of the cake was when the "manager" comes to the table and says we are not charging the cake fee! At least say we are very sorry for all the wait and shitty food we served, or the short staff, or the bad service offered, or the very dirty bathroom, the toilets room I believe was never washed or sanitized, I'm not coming back never again. And I'm horribly disappointed that we had to waisted our money and time like that, everyone knows how important is family time. If you are going to be a catering hall, be a catering hall, but not play with customers' money and their time giving them food that sucks! We had my grandmother's 90 bday here! I'm sure my mother made the staff crazy! Hahahaha! This is a very nice place for dinner, or a private party. They have several room sizes that cater to most crowds! The service was exceptional! From the valets to the bartender to wait staff and matre D! Everyone was very friendly. Absolutely nothing negative to say. We had a very nice selection for our courses. Our salad was pretty interesting, it had mixed greens and pears and cranberries and crumbled blue chefs. I like salads with interesting flavors, my wife not so much. It went over very nicely for the most part. We also had Penn Ala vodka which was phenomenal! I had the veal saltimboca, it could have been cooked a second or 2 less, but when you cook for 80 people at once, it's hard to get everything exactly perfect! Wife had the salmon, it was OK, nothing really special. It had a slightly fishy after taste. The people that had chicken all said it was top notch! We fit very nicely in the room that we were in, but if we had 10 less people it would have been much more comfortable! We wanted a dance floor, so it was a little closer together. I like the interior of this restaurant and that's about it. The food is unnecessarily expensive and mid at best. The braised short rib was good but the other entrees weren't good. Recently went there for mother's day brunch with my family. The food was buffet style and was hot, fresh and delicious with a nice variety of entrees. It was restocked often. The staff was friendly and intuitive. The price was very fair for the quality quantity of food we received. An all around good time was had by all. read more

Just had my daughter's bridal shower at VIVO! Bayside. It was MAGNIFICENT! Everything was handled so perfectly. All my guests enjoyed the delicious food, warm ambience, and exceptional staff. Paul is amazing. He is a very kind and patient man. He never tired of my constant questions or concerns. He was always available to help and accommodate my needs to make it a very memorable and special day for my daughter. He was so attentive to each detail. It was such a delight working with him, as well as Daniella, and the entire staff. They were all gracious, personable, and professional. Its unfortunate that this restaurant always changes hands. The food and service with the current restaurant is very good. Came for brunch. I had the Wild Shrimp Hash. 7 decent size shrimps on the plate at $16 is a pretty decent price point. The combo of sweet potatoes, potatoes, tomatoes, cheese,bacon and fried eggs was delicious and a hearty meal. Eggs benidict was very good as well. Haven't been here in over 10 years and I know why... food was terrible. Few of us had Chicken Milanese, it was so dry and tough to cut, almost like a jerky! Couple of others had the shrimp scampi which was so bland, no presence or smell/taste of garlic so they doused it with Tabasco sauce & black pepper and salt to make it somewhat edible. After all it was $25-30 per entree. For appetizers we had few non- memorable dishes like grilled octopus which was clearly frozen and too thawed, not chewy just mushy and a Caesar salad devoid of anything resembling a Caesar salad- just tiny chopped wilted romaine lettuce (?), some dried out cheese and no sauce at all. While our wait person was attentive, it looked like rest of the staff was more interested in talking about FIFA World Cup or flirting with customers or talking with each other.
