    Giant Bavarian Pretzel

I came here for lunch and it was a great meal. I was pleasantly surprised I ordered a burger which was delicious. The burger was big and filling. The beer was also good. My order was not German food because I already have a German food place. The service was great and the outdoor patio was beautiful. My friend did order German food and she said it was ok. We did order the pretzel and it was ok.

If you are looking for the perfect dining experience, feeling like a local family environment, look no further. The service here is always on point and the food is consistently good . I usually have the amazing smokehouse burger, but this time I opted to get the lamb chops, which was a special. It did not disappoint. The beer selection has many fine German beers and they serve small, medium or large, which is perfect depending on how much you feel like drinking. For appetizers we tried the amazing potato pancakes, they come highly recommended. We also love the pierogies. They are served perfectly with some nice sautéed onions. Can't say enough good things about this place but again if you're in the mood for a burger, you have to try the smokehouse burger you will not be disappointed !

This was our second visit to the Jagerhaus. It was not as great as our first. The staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. This time around I found the spatzel to be a lot like over boiled noodles. Too wet for my taste. I think this is one dish as a German restaurant you have to get right. The veal schnitzel was still very good and the wurst sampler was also great. So overall still pretty good, just not as good as my first visit.

This place has a great atmosphere the wings are awesome. I also love the beer selection lots of different kinds to try.

Returned mainly for the grapefruit beer. The sea bass, calamari, and apfelstrudel were all standouts. The shrimp cocktail, however, was overpriced and very underwhelming. There was also mix-up with the sides for the sea bass, but our server quickly resolved it. Food was otherwise great, with generous portion sizes.

Honestly when I go out to eat German food wasn't always at the top of my list. German beers are another story. I love a place with a large beer selection - Hofbrau, Radeberger, Spaten, Krombacher, etc.. on draft, comfortable outdoor seating (even in between with a climate controlled sun room) and the food here has been making me become a German food fan. I brought my mom here because she is a major Sauerbraten fan, but she is tough critic and it has to be made the way she likes - Jagerhouse hits the mark with its fall apart beef and ginger snap gravy. She raves. I've tried the wurst sampler platter, which is quality and tasty going great with the crispy home fries and all those German beers. There are other items not typically found on a German menu - fried calamari was perfectly cooked with its cornmeal crust and tender pieces of squid. The shrimp scampi came with tremendous flavorful shrimp where the person who ordered it nearly licked the plate clean. I've also tried the salmon sandwich and loved the pretzel bun, and lemon caper dill sauce, but it was more slider sized and the salmon wasn't the best - I would pass on this. The service has always been great and friendly. This is neighborhood spot where you can see locals hanging at the bar. Along with most places the prices have gone up in the last couple of years, but I think you'll find you get your moneys worth with the quality of the food.

Love this cozy little spot in Whitestone. The portions are ginormous! We usually order the pretzel (huge with three dips), the French onion soup (extremely cheesy but so good) and chicken schnitzel or sausage sampler to share. Not much of a beer fan but there are tons of options. The service is always awesome and quick.

Beautiful ambiance and extremely clean! Food smells delicious and we had extremely corteous service. I would definitely come here again. No complaints. This is definitely a 5 star establishment. Pretzels are deliciously fresh served warm - love the sauces they come with. Delicious brussel sprouts and french onion soup too. They have a great dessert selection as well with coffees!

A must visit! This is my second time here. This place offers a great selection of traditional German beers in the "boots" or stein! The food here is very good. It's also very traditional German food but they also offer some American options such as salmon and burgers. The ambience is comfortable and service is very great. Friendly staff!

Always have a great experience and mask at Jagerhouse!! They got steins of German beers. The deviled eggs are the best! I love the wurst platter because I never can choose my favorite of the three. The service is always friendly and quick. Love the covered outside patio when it's cold out, or the uncovered portion when it's a nice day out. Haven't had a bad meal yet!

**This is a 4.8 Star Review** Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Authentic German cuisine. Celebrated my birthday here and it sure was worth it. I ordered the Giant Bavarian Pretzel with Honey Mustard, Beer Cheese, and Spicy Mustard, my adorable little baby girl princess of a girlfriend ordered the potato pancakes, and for our main course we ordered the Bratwurst and the Porkschnietzel. The lager was delicious, light and bold, and paired perfectly with the brash taste of the sauerkraut and helped wash down the bratwurst. Cooked as it should be, however the porkschneitzel was a bit underwhelming and lacked flavor. For dessert we got the German Chocolate cake and they brought it out on the haus with a birthday candle and the staff sung happy birthday for me. Overall it was a very nice experience and recommend it to anyone itching for a taste of zee Fazahland! Heil Hitlah!

My first outdoor covid dining. We were shown an outside table under a giant umbrella. Music played some oldies in the background and a flat screen was playing Fanless baseball with cutouts of fans. Bizarre. Service was quick and efficient. We saw them thoroughly wiping down tables. They wore masks, gloves. The special menu had no prices. My personal pet peeve, and when asked, the server quoted prices. I had the smoke house burger on pretzel bread and fries. It was delish. I enjoyed the experience immensely probably because of my deprivation of any dining experience in the last 4 months. I felt safe and tables were spaced widely apart. We closed down the restaurant, savoring the social communion that quarantine imposed on us. May the force be with us all.

The chef comes from the world of high-end NYC dining, and you can feel that experience in every detail of the food. There's a level of creativity, precision, and thoughtfulness here that honestly feels Michelin-worthy. This makes sense, because the restaurant has earned that recognition. Beyond the food, Archie's also has one of the best Scotch and whiskey (bourbon and rye included) selections anywhere in the area. It feels curated by people who genuinely care about food and drink, not just running another restaurant. We eat there often, especially for brunch, which is spectacular and consistently better than it has any right to be for a neighborhood spot on City Island. The best example of the attention to detail was the chopped cheese sandwich special. When it arrived, my first thought was: "How is anyone supposed to eat this giant thing?" But then you take a bite and realize the bread was custom made specifically for the sandwich. Somehow it completely melts in your mouth along with the meat and cheese, making this enormous sandwich unexpectedly delicate and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of detail most restaurants would never even think about. Archie's is a true hidden gem and proof that truly exceptional food can exist in places you wouldn't expect.

There are some dedicated parking spaces that have a three hour limit if dining. Upon arrival, I entered the inside restaurant space for Dakota's on the Grove. It was aesthetically pleasing. I should have sat inside here instead of in their outdoor space which they call The Grove at Dakota's. I was able to choose where I wanted to sit, so I chose a table near this shed where the bartender/waiter was. I noticed they were setting up for the Knicks Game 3 final and there were two large TVs and a projection screen. I overheard the waiter state that the area would be packed for the game tonight. There was also good music playing throughout. They had a large connect four, which would be nice to play. They are family friendly and had high chairs for babies and toddlers. When sitting outside they state that they have to preauthorize your card. Now getting onto the food. I was seated and provided with two menus. I immediately asked for a happy hour menu and then I waited for about 15 minutes, until I followed up with another waiter who brought out the menu for me. For the happy hour menu before I received my food I initially thought the prices were good, but upon receiving my food it was evident that the prices are off in terms of the portion size of the food. I ordered a $5 slider. I thought it would be a decent size. It was incredibly small. For the $5 price they should give at minimum 2 sliders but ideally 3. This would incentivize people to buy more. The slider was the best thing I tasted while there and I would have liked more but I couldn't justify spending another $5 when it was so tiny. The tiny slider appeared to be the portion size for a toddler. I ordered calamari which was $9. I was initially disappointed that there was such a small amount. I was even more disappointed when I tasted them. They tasted very "fishy." They absolutely needed a squeeze of lemon and fresh cracked black pepper to try and balance and mask the taste. I believe the portion size for the fries was also off for $5. The fries came in a teacup. Fries are something that people tend to order to have something to pick at while dining and it would make sense I think to provide more fries for the same price. I also could not justify getting another set of fries in a small teacup for $5. I did not like the taste of the fries. When the sparse calamari, tiny beef slider, and small teacup of fries came out, I realized I would not be full and ordered chicken wings from the happy hour menu. You have to get a minimum of 6. You cannot mix the flavors. They were out of the dockside fire sauce so I went with the garlic parm. These wings did not taste like garlic parm. The garlic parm seemed like an afterthought, which was just sprinkled on the wings at the very end. The chicken itself did not have much flavor. They did not mention providing any dipping sauce. I asked for blue cheese and I had to wait for about ten minutes and then remind another waiter that I was still waiting for my blue cheese. They were out of the mozzarella sticks. Moving onto the drinks. While I get being outside and maybe wanting to serve drinks in plastic to minimize glassware breaking, I did not enjoy being served Pinot Noir in a plastic cup or the white cranberry lemon drop in a plastic cup. Each time I was taken aback that they weren't offered in glassware. I got the $7 Pinot Noir from the happy hour menu. A regular glass of Pinot Noir is $9. I also ordered the white cranberry lemon drop which is priced at $12 and is not included on the happy hour menu. The drink came out in the same sized small plastic cup as the Pinot Noir. I think once again that glassware should be used. When ordering a lemon drop you tend to expect a chilled frosty glass with a sugar rim, and that was not what I received here. I think the sugar rim would have elevated the taste profile of the drink. All in all, I really liked the outdoor area. I would probably only return to get a canned beer in the outside section. I hope they start to carry some sour beer options. I do not see myself trying the food again, with the exception of a burger (since the burger was really good.) I did have an inquiry regarding the pre-authorization charge and the final charge that I saw on my credit card. I called and left a message and the restaurant got back to me quickly, which I really appreciated.
