My partner and I went here the first time last year and had and such an amazing experience that we booked this spot for our 15th anniversary recently. It feels very cozy, intimate, and romantic. The food tastes home cooked (yum), pasta is very fresh. The first time our server offered we can get a half order of 2 pasta dishes so we can try both out. The squid ink pasta is the best so this time we got a full serving. My favorite is the octopus! Service is always spot on, both times. We'll be coming back for our special occasions. I been wanting to check this place out for months and since it was a really cold night we decided to eat local. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but it's nice in the inside. I was happily surprised when the server told us that they had half price on all wine bottles every Wednesday. For starters we went with the prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella. The portion was large and very tasty. The mozzarella was a little too cold for my taste but it got better as it sat on the table. For my entree I had one of the daily specials homemade linguini with truffles in a cream sauce. I added some shrimp. This dish was superb. It reminded me of the amazing pasta dishes I had when I visit Italy. My husband had the salmon and said it was great. I don't eat salmon and didn't taste it myself. We finished our meal with the pana cotta. It was good but nothing to rave about. Our server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall our meal was excellent. I love love love Concettina's Rigatoni with Sausage, Mushrooms & Smoked Mozzarella and Homemade Chocolate Terrine dessert. I've gotten the Rigatoni with Sausage, Mushrooms & Smoked Mozzarella on three different occasions and it never disappoints. It is very tasty and has a hint of smokiness that is delicious. Make sure to ask for additional bread, if you're like me, you will be using the bread to finish the sauce, leaving the plate clean. I really like their Fried Calamari and Fried Zucchini. The batter is very light so it doesn't overpower the calamari or zucchini. It's crisp and delicious. The Homemade Squid Ink Pasta was also very good. It's definitely lighter than the Rigatoni. I enjoyed it just the same. The Homemade Chocolate Terrine dessert was just what we were looking for to finish out our meal. It was like a smooth mousse texture with espresso whipped cream, toasted almonds and shaved chocolate on top. The service at Concettina is great! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Honestly wasn't expecting much when I went on yelp to find the nearest Italian restaurant near me that I didn't try yet. Saw this restaurant with great reviews and decided to give it a try. Upon arriving I noticed that it was a small restaurant sort of hidden in between stores but also didn't think much of it. First thing is note is the phenomenal service by the waitresses and even the host. Secondly is the food is beyond amazing. I went with the special of the day which was squid ink risotto with shrimp and wowwww I could not stop till the bowl was scraped empty. But if this a first date this isn't something you should order considering the color it left in my mouth. This is a def hidden gem and absolutely worth giving a try. Came here on a rainy Sunday night and want to try this local Italian restaurant. We ordered the special, prosciutto and Bufala mozzarella and the mussels. They were both amazing starters. The prosciutto and cheese was simple and delicious, good meat and good cheese. Classic. The mussels were in a red sauce and again delicious. The mussels were fresh and plump. For entrees, I got the bolognese and my bf got the squid ink pasta. Again can't go wrong with these choices. Both made with fresh pasta the texture was great, the sauces were also good. The apps we're delish, we started with the fried calamari and zucchini. The marinara was amazing. As for the entrees, I went with the snapper and I've never had snapper. It was beyond my expectations, the asparagus was well cooked also. The dessert was my favorite, not only do they secretly have limoncello, they have ORANGECELLO! We love Concettina. It's our neighborhood Italian gem. Their pasta is always cooked perfectly. The decor also takes you out of Queens and you do feel like you're in a cute restaurant in Firenze (Florence). Not overly done and not under decorated...it's just perfect. The manager/owner/servers are always polite, smiling, and informative which we really appreciate. One thing I didn't realize is they don't serve hard liquor which is ok. Though I did crave for a whiskey. They do have beer, wines, and some Italian desert liquors which was a good substitute. read more

Going to the restaurant for the second time after we had such an amazing dinner the first time we were here, I was very disappointed. It was Christmas Eve and we ordered from the Christmas Eve menu. My brother-in-law, his wife, my husband and I ordered the black squid ink risotto, lobster ravioli, black spaghetti with shrimp, and fried calamari shrimp and bay scallops, respectively. We were all underwhelmed with our dishes and none were flavorful nor memorable (All dishes were also at least $30 a plate). The Mussels Fra Diavolo we ordered as an appetizer was better than all our entrees, but could have been spicier in my opinion. We also had the homemade tiramisu and chocolate terrine, which on the upside, were good. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be back except to order the beef bolognese and salmon Farfalle, which we had the first time we visited the restaurant. Was really looking forward to this $300+ dinner we ordered for takeout, but alas, the food was meh. I can tell the portions are not suitable for take-out, especially for this price point. The restaurant itself is cute and romantic inside. They also have ample seating outdoors. I understand dining in is the best way to experience the food, but the takeout was honestly lightyears away from my expectations. We ate: Calamari & Zucchini - nice crunch on the zucchini and calamari was fresh. Black Tagliolini spaghetti - spaghetti was overcooked to mush. Not enough seafood and portion was small. Paccheri Calabresi: lacks seasoning. pasta was again overcooked. Chicken Parm - All i can taste is cheese. Chicken was pounded out to a thin slice. The ratio of cheese, sauce and chicken is off. Veal Saltimbocca - disappointing. maybe it was the cold cheese. Asparagi Gratinati con Parmigiano e Prosciutto - This needs to be eaten hot. Way too much cheese, and the prosciutto was lost. Also, we literally got 8 spears of asparagus for $16. Barbabietole e Spinaci: no one touched this lol The service at pickup was good. Friendly staff. My family and I went to dinner last night at Concettina. It was our first time there and it won't be our last. Everything was delicious. The food was seasoned well and were ample portions. The service from the moment we sat down until we left was very attentive. The owner often came to check on us as well which I believe is an important quality in a family owned business. They have a kids menu and I would say it is a great place to bring the family. The ambiance is both romantic if you sit more in the back and a more casual feel towards the front. Our appetizer was a special of the day: Grilled octopus salad w string beans, olives and cherry tomatoes. My my that was EXCELLENT. I'd go back just to have that for dinner and hope they'll offer it again. Dinner was angus for him, fried seafood trio for me. TLDR: Relatively new Southern Italian eatery in Whitestone. It's somewhere in-between a red sauce joint and a modern Italian restaurant. A change of scenery from the neighborhood pizza/pasta spots. When I had first read about the restaurant and caught a glimpse of the menu, I was excited to try Concettina. I thought, maybe we found the next best thing. The interior is relatively spacious, the dining room goes pretty far back. Came with parents and tried a little bit of everything. We tried the Carpaccio di Manzo a/k/a beef carpaccio. The arugula was there, the parmigiano was good but the beef? Think roast beef. Nothing like the meat shavings spread almost translucent on a plate that I'm accustomed to. At $17, a bit pricey for a small portion. We opted for two pastas, one dry and one fresh. Pennette al Salmone con Erba Cipollina e Caviale. Miniature penne in a cream sauce with salmon, scallions and cavier. This was not bad, the creaminess was relatively light but I felt it was lacking a bit on flavor. It tasted surprisingly light for a rich dish like this. It could've used more salt, something needed to help cut through sauce other than just the scallions. Tagliatelle con Moscardini Affogati. Fresh pasta with baby octopus in a spicy tomato sauce. This sounded like it would be incredible when I read it on the menu. I understood the idea but it just never quite came together. I felt the pasta and the baby octopus while all cooked fine individually, they just seemed out of synch for me when I ate them together. Our last entree was the Veal Chop Parmigiana which came with a side of penne. I've had a lot of bone-in veal parms before. I always like the flavor, this one wasn't bad but I found the portion to be quite small. I thought it could have had more cheese. The meat was breaded well and retained a good crispiness but I was longing for more cheese and of course.. more veal chop. If I had to pick though, I probably liked this the most. I wouldn't get it again for a $38.00 price-tag. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. It was okay, I wouldn't be dying to try it but I'd be open to coming again. read more

I took the advice of other Yelpers and tried this restaurant. Mary, the owner and hostess, was a delight. We were in Flushing for the Westminster Dog Show and wanted to eat Italian. This is a neighborhood gem. Get the truffle pasta. It was worth every penny! I also enjoyed the Branzino. They serve only beer and wine here, and they are generous with their wine serving. The desserts were amazing! The tiramisu was light and fluffy and the chocolate terrine was divine. This was the best meal I had in New York of late. If I had gone alone, or just with my wife and kid, this would have been at least 4 stars, but considering the experience of my parents (who came with us last night), it's 3 stars. Had they been doing this review, they might have given 2 stars. :( The place is very cute and nicely designed. Even the bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. The owner's wife was very informative about the style of Italian food they serve, and she and her husband have a decades-long history in the restaurant industry. The owner's sister has made them some adorable ceramic table # decorations ... see my photos. The waitress was excellent. She had a great demeanor, and was right on top of us practically from the moment we sat down. That's really important to me. We got our appetizers in a short time (the broiled octopus was pretty good, the mussels were good, and the special salad was good as well), but there was a pretty long break between appetizers and main course. When the mussel in wine sauce appetizer came out, my step-mom said that they were cold... like... almost warm coolness. They were sent back and returned re-heated and were satisfactory. When the mains came out, my wife got the mussels Fra Diavlo (very good), daughter very much liked her Penne a la Vodka, I got a ribbon pasta like a papardelle in a tomato sauce, I can't remember the name but I liked it. My father got the whole wheat penne with Pomodoro sauce, which looked disgusting, and he said it was so/so. He needed extra sauce as it was kind of dry. The Pomodoro sauce was very smooth, and we're used to seeing it with some texture, but WTH do we know...a couple of Jews in a restaurant specializing in food made in the spirit of Sorrento, Italia. Their philosophy here is sensible...they give you a minimal amount of toppings so that they can add more if you need, but not so much that they'll have to remake the whole dish. Easier to add than take away. My wife's side of meatballs were OK... they're a bit on the tough side, not the kind that crumbles at the poke of a fork. Kind of reminded me of beef sausage with a good tomato sauce. My step-mom's steak came out, and again she's like "It's cold." They reheated it and I tried it... I thought it had a nice charred flavor, but maybe not worth $38. She ate some of it, and declared that she wouldn't return here. I can only think that either my step-mom is getting some variant of alzheimer's disease that affects your ability to remember the difference between hot and cold, or maybe they have an open window in the kitchen to keep the cooks cool, but it's December, and if dishes are waiting in the kitchen with the open window, especially a breeze, and not under a good heat lamp, they're going to get COLD. Other than this, I thought it was pretty good and I may try it again. I think things like this are just kinks that take time to iron out. read more

We loved every bite! Highly recommending the grilled octopus. The texture of the thick pasta was so chewy and nice. Taking one star off only because we couldn't really taste the squid ink. Everything was delicious and homemade (limoncello--yum!), and they took some risks, including the really spicy olive paste served with the bread (stick with the butter if heat is not your thing). We love this restaurant. It has a cute ambiance and great food. The spaghetti vongole is out of the world good. The best I've had. My husband loves the truffle fettuccine which is so so good.
