While visiting Bloomington for an extended work trip, I needed to find a local salon to provide pedicure services in a jiffy since I neglected to get my feet done prior to my trip and my toes looked a hot @ss mess. After a quick web search, I found this place within walking distance of my hotel. Despite its mid rating on Yelp (3.3 on average from 32 reviews), I decided to take a chance on them because Google gave them a rating of 4.6 from a larger population of 331 reviews, trusting in the Law of Large Numbers. The Pros: * Online booking is available which makes scheduling appointments super convenient. Plus, a text to record the request. * Guang contacted me within 10 minutes of me placing my reservation online to clarify what questions I may have as a first timer. He was friendly and professional over the phone, and Meeting him in person was even more of a pleasure. I got service with a smile, he offered me a beverage (options soft drink or water). * Prices seem fair and are on par with what nail salons charge in my home state. * They have a Colors Galore! There are so many polishes to choose from and a wide variety of palettes and popular styles. * Also, they are very organized... I was impressed by how creatively they adapted two cube storage units (4x4 and 5x5 like the ones from IKEA) to display the plethora of polish bottles. I also saw the powder dip colors, but those are tucked away in wicker baskets behind the massage chairs. * God bless HELEN! She did my pedicure and did not disappoint. As a first time customer, I was pleased that I didn't have to give her much direction. She got the job done right with exfoliation and cuticle removal and her massage skills are stellar! (Low key a couple times I caught myself about to moan from the pleasure and had to hold myself back! LOL) The Cons: Zero negative feedback from me! But if forced to critique anything I would only be nitpicking to say that the beverage offerings included Pepsi (my choice), Diet Coke and water, but after the fact Guang had realized that Pepsi was in fact dunzo. This is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things considering that most nail salons I've frequented don't go out of their way to offer customers any refreshments. This was an *EXCEPTIONAL* nail salon experience for me, and for my next trip to Bloomington, I'd gladly forego getting a pedi back just to get the satisfaction of patronizing Vixen Nail Salon again in the future! read more

It was my first time here and I won't be coming back. On both of my finger nails and toes, the nail polish was painted right to my cuticle. Yesterday my sister-in law and I made a last minute appointment for a basic manicure. We were seeking a black owned nail salon, and this place appeared in a Google search as black owed, but it is Asian owned. Hoping to support black owned small business, but everywhere we called we received a voice mail. When we arrived, we were pleased. We enjoyed the ambience of the establishment. We were't offered beverages or anything. We We're there for basic manicures for $25. It's nice small intimate setting with peaceful music playing in the background. They do line their foot spay tubs with disposable plastic bags, very clean, professional. I plan to return for a basic pedicure for $40 very soon. The location is nice. They gave us instructions to allow nails to dry an additional 30. We followed instruction. Still look great. We are satisfied! If you're not comfortable around cultures that speak in their native tongue, take your business else where. Otherwise, I rate them as good. read more

The guy at the front is very nice. Friendly. Offers you a drink and a basket of colors. The nail tech doesn't greet you. She just requests your hand to get started. She did my nails and cuticles. It looked ok (she left small circles on three of my nails) then bam. less than a week later my cuticles are shredding and the Gel polish has chipped on two nails. My nails polish is far away from my cuticles in less than a week. This is a crappy job in my opinion. She wasn't friendly when I left either but was worried about a tip she didn't quite deserve. I wanted to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure and was trying to find someplace that wouldn't put a dent in my bank account and provides great service. I was able to make an appointment online (which is a huge bonus for me). When I walked in, the space was clean and felt relaxed immediately. This nail salon is in a non-descript strip mall not far from I494, at Hwy 100 & 84th. I found it because of the neighboring Aveda Max Salon (which is awesome). Anyway, I kind of felt like I won the lottery the first time I went in and got a pedi. Their prices (even for gel) are super reasonable and they did a great job! No, it is not the fanciest of places, and yes some of their pedi chairs are old in comparison to some of the new places around the cities. I didn't have a wait, they used hot stones on my feet and calves, and the place appears clean. I went a second time in September and got another gel pedi. I was the only customer and the employees seemed to be doing some self care and were not super anxious to help me but I did get taken care of and while I was there at least 5 more people came in. I added a flower to my pedi - which I'd never done and it turned out cute. Such talent. It will be my new fall back during the summer months when I get my hair done! read more

I scheduled an appointment a week out and they overbooked on the day with walk-ins and ran 20 minutes late. when I got my pedicure, the employee was nice but didn't cut my nails straight. it was quite noticeable on my big toes. if I had realized before she painted my nails, I would have asked her to redo it. read more

Just left the salon. Not a fan. Been here twice. Both times, they did not trim my cuticles. Did not have straight painted lines around the bed or sides of my nails. Painted up onto the cuticle. I am probably not qualified to write a review for a pedicure or 'pedi', but because Yelp will let me I will. I realized the other day that from the ankles down, I strongly resembled a hobbit. It was at that moment I knew I needed to bring in a professional. This nail salon is close to where I work and was able to accommodate what was basically a walk up appointment. The salon was clean and had a bunch a nice pedicure chairs. The person that did the pedicure was nice and didn't talk much, just the way I wanted it. 25 dollars and 30 minutes later I was out of there. I even got a coupon for 5 bucks off of my next visit. I still probably wouldn't make for a very good foot model, but at least now I won't be recruited for Peter Jacksons next film. read more

I always get worried when getting my nails done while out of town because the techs are not as consistent in their work. Vixen accepts walk in appointments and scheduled appointments. They were very flexible and accommodating to provide a stellar acrylic manicure and pedicure. The environment is peaceful, relaxing and rejuvenating. The staff are attentive to needs and details. I can be quite picky when it comes to the cuticles, length, shape, and if the nails all match. Kim gave me a great coffin shape with some fun neon orange color for the summer. She was pleasant to work with and we chatted throughout my appointment. She has a great eye for small detail and did not rush. The new management is wonderful. Offered water and drinks right away. 1st EVER - 1 Star Review or basically any negative review for any company in probably 20 years. Sooo disappointed tonight. I've been a "client" there for 8+ years and after tonight, I am DONE. I've had so many friends who have left this business in the past 2 years due to rudeness and being treated poorly. I've always defended them - saying it was maybe just a misunderstanding, but over the past year or so (yes, I give people waaaay too many chances) - I've seen rapid decline in manners and treatment of guests/clients. My daughter and I were in there tonight (she's a 23 yr. old professional) and we both had different, but equally BAD experiences with two different employees. My daughter had eyes rolled at her for suggesting a different shape of nail & knew that the woman doing her nails, was talking about her to another employee in a very condescending tone. The result? She now has a few different nail shapes - ridiculous. I'm over how crazy it is that a few of them always laugh and snicker in their 1st language about the patrons that are there paying for a service and nothing more. Incredibly immature. They even talk bad about each other when the other isn't working or paying attention. I've seen that many times as well, VERY professional. I always go to the same woman for my fills and tonight she couldn't be bothered (again, I've been seeing her for years) to even say "thank you" after I paid her w/ a 20% tip (I always tip at least that much). I'm done with what my friends call her "bitchy" attitude. They're right - she's a jerk. I'm so mad right now (can you tell)???? But, I want to say that Jenny is GREAT- I always have her do my pedicures, because she is THE BEST. Unfortunately, for that reason only, I will be bummed to not be going back. Part of me thinks that I should see her anyway, because she's done nothing unprofessional and knows how to value a customer. . I come here to get my nails done because it's conveniently located near my job. The ladies are always really nice and friendly and they have always done a great job with my manicures and pedicures. They used to offer paraffin wax dips with every manicure which was nice, but with the new owners, they don't do this anymore. Today was my second time here. First time I had Jenny and she was wonderful. She gave me a top quality pedicure that lasted me almost a three weeks. This time, second time was not so wonderful. My first mistake was not calling ahead of time to make an appointment with Jenny and I took the next available nail tech. I couldn't even understand the name of the lady that worked on me. I am just now walking out the door and I'm so so very disappointed in the rushed sloppy service I received. I even pointed out two blemishes and she acted like they where not there... First time at this salon and will be the last. Called yesterday to make pedicure appts. for me and my 13-year old daughter. Arrived today on time. We were barely acknowledged most of the time we were there. The nail techs had plenty of personal conversations but did not say more to us than asking what type of pedicure and then asking us to pay. At one point the technician realized that he has smudged my friends nail and quickly worked to redo her nail.
