These guys are crooks, scary and not licensed contractors - it's illegal for them to do any work above $500, which I found out after the fact I was recommended them by Ronny at Restoration General, who insisted that my bathroom reconstruction could be done by Nic and Vic for a cheaper price. Vic told me that the entire job would cost $2800 Then halfway through the work insisted it was $3400 A little after that they claimed it was going to be $6000 When I pushed back against their tile choices (I asked for blue, they brought grey), they screamed in my face that it was a great color choice and insisted I look at the grey tiles in the sunlight. I am a single female who lives alone and had two large men yelling at me in my home was horrifying. But even more terrifying? The grey tile in the sunlight. First of all they quote at a very high price so expect haggling.They rush everything and are very sloppy with detail. I was stupid and hired them for a paint job ,when I should have just called a painter. Now that I'm thinking about it allot of the reviews are from people with under five reviews that probably know them and just beef up the five stars. They turned a two day project into one day just to get it done and collect the money.If you hire them micromanage. TERRIBLE!! Do not hire these guys!!! They do okay woodwork but they completely screwed up 2 of the 3 jobs i hired them for. And the 3rd was just hanging shelves! I had wood ceiling panels put in. It just looks terrible. The wood is pretty even but finish is soooo blotchy. Like, bad bad. A toddler could do better. Everyone mentions it. Same with the decking. And i asked them 3 times to paint the wood all the way around so that when you look up at it (its a second floor decking) you can't see the original wood color. Plus if its not painted all the way around, water can get in to the wood easier. Ughh what a disaster. I saw that they were doing it wrong and told them and he just argued with me, saying that that would take too long and he simply didn't want to do it!! These guys will hackle you for more and more money, then do a shitty job and rush through it. They also get pissed when you don't give it all to them ahead of the time. What can I say? You Yelpers get it right sometimes. I had a leak under my kitchen sink and I had to replace the bottom of the cabinet under the sink due to extreme water damage. I did some Yelp research and decided to go with VN Handyman based on all of the positive responses on Yelp. They showed up promptly to my house and gave me a very fair estimate to make the repairs. I would call these two brothers greedy. Putting up a double curtain rod and 4 panels of curtains plus one more on a pre existing track and gliders: $300. Less than an hour of work. But please read further: The first time I was happy with the job they did and bypassed the fact that I payed $200 for minimal work that took them less than two hours. The second time I was charged $320 that I negotiated down to $300 and they were in my apartment working for an hour and a half, painting - in a hurry and badly - half a wall of a small bathroom, horribly fixing a cabinet and forgetting two other assignments: putting gliders under my tv unit and centering a few frames on the wall (the frames were already on the wall). Also, that time they forgot to remove two screws from the wall. I called them back to finish the job and they quickly came by at their convenience and completed what they should have done before but forgot about the two anchors in the wall holding the two screws. I had been searching for someone to replace four doors on my house before being painted and of course I went to yelp to read the reviews. Nik (of Vik and Nik) came by the same day after calling, he was very helpful and informative on the work involved and given the a fair estimate it was a no brainer. While scheduling the door installs, he asked about the painting bids. After I told him the bids, he offered to do it for 15% less than the lowest bid. Which of course I jumped on. The installation of the doors took less than a day, went smoothly and looked much better than the original work. The painting was exceptional, all the paint was rolled and brushed on, which I think is superior to spraying, for a more durable paint job. And the real measure of a professional is how they deal with problems. I noticed a few days later that some of roof trim needed a second coat. I called Nik and they dealt with it right away, no questions asked. All said and done, we're very satisfied with the job. We've even had some people stop and take pictures of the house. I'm going to have them do my kitchen and bathrooms next month. Update: $500 to paint bathroom and repair some holes. Took the 2 1/2 hours and it looks like it. You really have to watch these guys. First, they removed mold we found when we purchased the home, which included cutting out dry wall, cleaning the area, putting in green board, and re-plastering and re-painting. The area looked great when they were done. Second, they mounted my television above my fireplace and hid the wires. He was showed up on-time (10 minutes early in fact) on a Saturday with another worker and I was impressed with how quickly he helped get our jobs done as well as how affordable it was. A month or so later, I had a much more complicated job in my house. I won't get into all the details, but involved my laundry machine pan. He showed up, this time with 2 workers, and immediately recognized that pan we had bought wasn't situated right for the machine. Yet impressively he went ahead and was able to figure out how to make changes to the pan to make it work. In addition, on his own accord and for free, he fixed the sliding door of the laundry room area where the washing machine was. And again, his price for this was extremely affordable. Did SUCH a poor job of cleaning up after painting my house that I had to spend a couple hours after they had left scraping off dried paint from the floor.
