I used Uchkhun several times over the last couple years, so I can give some insight to working with him. His first repair for me was the door stopper. He said it couldn't be repaired and needed a new one. I purchased what he suggested and he installed it and I paid him. A couple days later, it wasn't working again and thankfully he didn't charge me to repair his mistake. The next time I inquired whether he could fix the HVAC. He said he could, but went and missed the first appointment. I had to text him to ask if he was still coming and he said he'd come at the end of the day. Great, just flaked on the appointment but whatever, let's get it fixed. But he texted back that he couldn't fix it after all but wanted to charge me a service fee. I replied back that he told me could repair it, only to follow up with he can't, but he wants to charge me? So all in all, not great. read more

I hired Askarov Handyman based on a yelp project recommendation. I spoke with Uchkun and discussed the project. It's for a commercial site and it would have to be after business hours. We agreed upon the price and all the other terms and everything was good. The project was to prep/paint a metal shade structure, repair or replace a broken column (he said it was repairable), and to repair holes in the stucco. Quoted project time was 2-3 workdays, it took about a week. No worries as quality work takes time. This was not quality work. On Day 1 Uchkun and his brother arrived to prep the structure. They were sanding and working on the other repairs. After day 2 they decided to get a sprayer to spray the primer and then paint everything. It looked like it was their first time using a sprayer like as they got overspray EVERYWHERE. In my photo attached on the review you can see that the concrete is black after they sprayed. Not only was the color bad but it caused everything to be sticky as it's wet paint. They also did not calibrate the sprayer and ran it on a wide spray pattern which caused the painting to be extremely wet and runny and it dripped all over the concrete overnight. It also ruined a lot of our signage and just a mess in general. Then it came to the column repair. He told me he can repair it as we have the pieces and I said sure. He began putting it together with epoxy & foam and then he realized towards the end that we do not have all the pieces and we need to replace it.. again I said sure but you just charged me for the repair and now I need to pay double to fix it. Complete waste of time. They did a good job repairing the stucco I will give him that. Today September 6th 2023 I met with Uchkun and his brother for touch ups and to discuss the column. They came to the site in the morning and did touch up work. I arrived to check the finished work to find all the missing spots. I showed him all the missing spots and exposed rust and he said that it's overspray from the primer and that all is well. Doesn't make sense since the primer is grey and the topcoat is black.. how would the primer show on a painted surface if you primered before the topcoat. He pretty much said it's not worth his time to complete the work to which I agreed that he shouldn't since he's already half assed the whole project. I paid the remaining balance and he left. He is a nice guy, but it seems he cannot handle a project of this size (not a big project at all). I chose his business since it had good reviews and he is a nice guy but what a mistake that was. Now I am left with half assed work and a couple thousand in damages. Would not recommend this business for any painting or commercial work. read more

I've hired Uchkun twice to make repairs to my rental properties. His communication is great. He worked with me to figure out what would be best (hourly versus day rate) for all the jobs I needed completed. I find his rates reasonable given his craftsmanship and all-around knowledge of how things need to be properly done. He showed up on time every day, both times I hired him. He was fully prepared to do the work and had everything he needed in terms of tools, ladders, etc. He went to Home Depot to pick up things I ordered (a door, paint) for one job. I find his work to be solid. He has done a bunch of general single family home repairs and they all look great. The most significant project was an exterior door replacement, which was complicated, but he got it done and the finished result looks professional. He's also a nice guy. I felt comfortable having him around and so did my tenants. I saw a couple one star reviews and I would say to those people "get real." One of the bad reviews was talking about HVAC work which is a highly specialized trade. The other was talking about a large commercial project. Uchkun is fantastic if you've got a list of general work and repairs around the house that have to be addressed. You will feel much better about everything that's been hanging over your head once he's done! read more

Uchkun Askarov came to our house to install a ceiling fan with lights. We already had an electrician over who said he had to do a brand new install and re-wire everything. Uchkun came over as soon as we called and said there was no need to re-wire and with his knowledge as an electrician he could install the ceiling fan without a problem. We had been suffering in the heat without this ceiling fan which was in our kitchen and Uchkun came after hours to do the installation. We are very pleased with the results and would consider hiring him again in an instant. If you need an honest, professional, dependable, and affordable handyman, then Uchkun is your guy. Unhku was hired to repair 1) loose screws in an attic door, which the attic ladder was attached to, and 2) loose IKEA shelving at my home. I assumed he would be able to fix it since he was charging the most at $95 per hour relative to another handyman. He sent one of his guys - Sam. Sam just started to drill bigger holes into the attic door without coming up with a game plan. No inspection, nothing. He assumed the big screws will hold the attic stairs to the door but didn't realize how big of a hole he was creating. He used butterfly anchors for the door. I was thinking why would you use butterfly anchors into a door if there's nothing to latch on? I can understand using butterfly anchors for the drywall so you can latch on to the back of the drywall, but a door? I was worried and provided "wood putty" to him so he can fill up the big holes he created. He didn't sue it. I asked him if it was safe, Sam said yes. On to the next assignment - the IKEA shelving. My IKEA shelving was loose, and I wanted it fix. He just moved the shelves around. I kept on asking him if we can fix this issue, but he didn't really understand or ignore me. Sam's English wasn't great, so it was extremely difficult to communicate with him. I gave up and had some extra work to fill up the time. I was worried they wouldn't know what they were doing. I asked Sam to drill some IKEA cabinets into the walls and install hooks. Guess what? My IKEA cabinets are crooked and not leveled. Sam was nice, so I felt bad complaining about the job. I kept on telling him to level the IKEA cabinet, but he didn't understand. I reached out to Unhku to let him know my concerns and if 1) the attic ladder was safe and 2) can I fix my loose IKEA shelves. He came to look and told me my wall was not leveled so he won't be able to fix the shelving. After they left, I pulled down the attic door/ladder so I can store some items in the attic. Guess what - the attic stairs came apart from the door. I informed Unhku. He told me to reach out to the manufacturer. Like seriously? What a professional! No apologies.... nothing. He takes my $, breaks my attic door, expects me to fix it, and tells me to reach out to the manufacturer. No dignity. What if I was an old senior? Does he leave me hanging too? This was the 1st time I hired a contractor/handyman who didn't own up to his work. I read a similar issue with an individual giving him a 2-star review on his page, which I wish I saw earlier. I even asked them to give me a quote on creating a stair storage under my stairs. I am glad I didn't hire them. What if my stairs collapse and he goes "go ask the manufacturer"? I basically paid them $210 just to punch some screws into the wall, which I could had done. They didn't fix anything I originally hired them to do. No invoice, no apologies, no empathy. Seriously no invoice - makes me wonder if they have insurance. If you want a basic job, sure hire them and pay them a premium. If you want a detailed and complex job - I would look elsewhere. You won't be able to effectively communicate your needs. read more

So, I have some built in cabinets in my office that I wanted to get painted a nice black color. Initially it was more of an oak polished color and it was giving classroom vibes, first thing I did was I went onto Yelp to request some quotes and I did one of the worst possible things which was not hiring the proper person. I hired someone else to do the job and they really gave terrible service. I should've went with uchkun to begin with because they left my cabinets worse than before and strung me along for an entire month. After that whole ordeal I ended up messaging Uchkun to see if he could redo it properly. Uchkun responded promptly and quickly giving me a date on which he could start the job, he gave me a competitive rate and the best possible service ever, I really love the way the cabinets turned out he did such a great job and on top of it he had to remove the paint which was used by the other contractor since it was not correct for this type of work. He came into my office space and covered everything very very professionally and began to use a power sander to clean everything up and remove all the polish. After this he went on to clean and prep for painting.
