I really wanted to like this place, but wow... what a letdown. I waited about 20 minutes while the one employee there reheated everything out of the deep fridge in an air fryer. Yup -- nothing was fresh, and it tasted exactly like that. * Falafel: Dry as the desert. Taste was quite stale. Zero seasoning. I actually needed water after eating one. * Fried oyster mushrooms: 90% breading, maybe 10% mushroom if you're lucky. I could taste chunks of just rebaked breading. * Quinoa: No salt, no seasoning, nothing. * Curried chickpeas: Couldn't taste curry at all, no salt, peas still hard. It felt unfinished. * Miso dressing: This was the saving grace. Slightly sweet, really tasty, actually perked up the salad. * Tahini sauce: Not my vibe -- very pasty and way too earthy * Jerk jackfruit: OMG. No one tasted this before serving, I'm convinced. It literally tasted like canned jackfruit straight out of a super salty brine, drowned in painfully spicy jerk sauce. Completely inedible. Def was not made that day. For a vegan spot, I expected fresh, flavorful, and thoughtful food. Instead, it was bland, overbreaded, or just plain off. Why is everything taken out the freezer/fridge and rebaked? Vodega is god's gift to vegans! After struggling to find anything vegan on the Island, I was desperately in need of food! That is when I was blessed enough to come across Vodega. Let me start by saying - VEGAN SOFT SERVE AND SPRINKLES. At the time of my visit, they were out of swirl and chocolate, but I can't even complain, considering how amazing the vanilla soft serve was Next, VEGAN BREAKFAST ALL DAY! (Sorry, I am very excited for the selections offered here). My bacon, egg, and cheese was out of this world. I tend to be a little ocd when it comes to food preparation, but my mind was at ease seeing how well-maintained the store was. In addition to being friendly and helpful, Keaira used gloves between taking and making orders - which warrants a ten-star rating from me! I can honestly say that Vodega is one of the best plant-based deli and grocery combo that I have been to in my 15+ years of being vegan. And that says a lot coming from California where there is an abundance of vegan food. Vegan or not, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Vodega! Visited Staten Island last weekend and decided to have a picnic. I ordered a PB&J, grilled cheese, BLT wrap, tots & cookies for my family. Everything was great. Tots were seasoned so deliciously that we didn't need to dip them in ketchup. I ordered online and everything that needed to be was warm and ready. I like how easy it is to customize your order online. The flavor of the bacon was delicious, it's a thick slice not similar to regular pork bacon. The portions are great for the price. I would definitely go back to try something else and the ice cream also. read more

Love to try and support new (to me) vegan spots. I'm a Manhattan-ite that doesn't leave Manhattan but decided to explore SI yesterday and found Vodega. It's got some solid looking food options with breakfast stuff, sandwiches, platters, smoothies, and even soft serve. The store also has a few vegan goodies to select from on the shelves but very limited, especially compared to pictures from just last year. It's not often you find vegan soft serve so I had to try it - I was provided a small sample and it was soooo watery, just like mostly liquid. The taste was ok, the chocolate didn't taste like chocolate but rather caramel. And it was not soft serve consistency so it's a miss for me. But I ended up buying the chickenless cutlet sandwich which was tasty, it looked and tasted like the gardein chicken strips, they airfry then and put it on a roll with tomato onion lettuce and you can add a sauce, I chose BBQ sauce. It was a satisfying meal. It cost $11 which is normal. I saw from other reviews there were French fries but not on the menu when we went. My friend got a breakfast burrito, it was devastatingly small and shaped into a small square rather than a regular burrito. He said the taste was good but it was a bit underwhelming. I would definitely return if I'm ever back in SI to try another sandwich option though so 4/5 for me! read more

I got two Jamaican vegan patties two carrot cake muffins one vegan cookie and a small box of fries. My issue with the order was the french fries were under cooked and they kept trying to tell me that they were soggy even though I know how fries look when you pull them out too fast and and then you try to like serve them. They kept telling me they were soggy because they were being delivered to to where I was at and I kept telling the guy like that's not the issue the issue is that they were undercooked even the guy that was standing in the background was saying that there were soggy from the condensation. I know what soggy fries are and I like soggy fries I wouldn't have minded I didn't even want to call because I didn't want to make an issue but when you spend 6.99 on fries you expect something back if the food doesn't meet you exceptions. The Jamaican vegan patties were great!! I need to have the recipe. Afterwards they offered me a fresh batch but I couldn't pick it up. Extremely overpriced . Small portions, underwhelming flavor, not worth the hype. Save your money and make the food yourself

I would really love to support this business because I am a vegan and Staten Island NEEDS vegan options. However, their food is EXTREMELY overpriced and not at all worth it. Their bread is never toasted, cheese is never melted, their sides are so so small and are 7$ each, seasoning is bad, service is slow. I had been vegan for years and have worked in vegan food service myself so I know what I'm talking about. This place has so much potential but is not doing it right at all. Disappointing. As one of the very few vegan places on the island, I truly hope they step it up. read more

This place never disappoints! My friend comes over from the city to eat here with me every other month or so. The soft serve is delicious with rainbow sprinkles and we always get the chopped cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches. The mac and cheese is also so flavorful. Love me some Vodega! read more

In response to the owner that replied to my last review (which I just saw): I would not try to steal food when I've ordered from you SO many times. Also you have no idea what you are talking about because I did go through the process and called grubhub. I saw the picture too. The grubhub driver probably took the food which I never blamed you for until you guys acted very disrespectful over it. Who the hell cares if it was my husband that they were calling. It says leave the food outside. It has never been an issue before with anyone else.Grubhub was actually professional about it when I called them. Maybe you can learn a thing or two from that. I really wanted to like this place. The idea of a vegan bodega was so exciting especially in this area. I saw it joined seamless for delivery, so I ordered nachos and the brownie. There was a mix up and my food was left outside unbeknownst to me, so when I finally realized it had been delivered it was covered in ants. (Not the restaurants fault) however it inspired me to reorder something different to the perfect plate with Mac and cheese, rice, beans, and I added the dirty mashed potatos. First, if I pay for an extra side, I expect it to be a full extra side, not less Mac and cheese to accommodate my additional side that I paid extra for. Taste and seasoning on everything was underwhelming and the black beans were WAY undercooked. To top it all off, the brownie that I had ordered was so dry, I had to add some almond milk just to eat it. I would love to give this spot another try to see if the other food lives up to the hype but at the current moment it's looking dismal. read more

half the order didnt arrive and its happened a few times before, basically whenever i order online. i finally called about it this time because its really adding up and they blamed the delivery driver and said they "cant issue a refund." they said next time they would comp the items missing, but if they cant refund me now how can they comp anything later? how would they even know im the same person? no kind of coupon code to enter on their website or anything... besides, you have to pay to finish placing the online order anyway, so thats a big cop out..got the feeling they were saying anything to get me off the phone. after this latest disappointment i probably wont bother to make a future order to have my items comped. after all, they probably wont even show up..lol the only reason im even writing this review is because on the phone they never even apologized or took any kind of responsibility, just ready to deny fault, pass blame and offer half hearted solutions. it felt like they didnt care, and im sure they didnt. i been shopping at Richmond Hood for years, and ive been supporting Vodega since they opened, but this is pretty lame service to get vibed like that when you bring up an issue. just hire your own driver to avoid "door dash driver issues." even though Vodega isnt even on Door Dash, otherwise id be able to get a refund when i dont receive my order..lol -PMA read more

This is the first vegan deli in all of Staten Island and I am beyond thrilled! The food is awesome and reasonably priced. The staff are knowledgeable and very welcoming. It's located on Castleton Avenue near the courthouse. This was my first visit but definitely not my last. read more
