On a fixed income, my mother simply cannot afford $30, $40 or $50 for phone service that she was paying. It was insane. So we went the cheap route and it wasn't too bad at first. Have had service around a year. There are LOTS of pluses in the customization of the service, which was the main attraction (aside from low price). We only allow whitelisted folks to call. If they aren't on the list, they don't get through. That is the ONLY guaranteed way to avoid scams and others you never want to hear from. If someone is NOT on the list and calls, there is even a way to view the history and if that person doesn't block their CALLER ID, you can see "Donald Trump" called and then if you want to add him to your Whitelist so he can get through in the future, it is very simple. The DOWNSIDE is phone service often goes into MUTE for no reason at all and you have to hang up and call the person back! They can also hear beep tones on their end but on your end, it is simply interrupted noise, which does interrupt what the person is telling you. This gets annoying. I've spent time with tech support, but none of that worked and about to call them again because we refuse to pay for service (no matter how low) that doesn't deliver! Good news! After I disputed the charge with my bank they went to work and after 6-7 weeks they resolved it by crediting my account the $185 that Voipo fraudulently took from my account in March 2025. This credit did not come from Voipo but from my bank. I also have blocked them from being able to debit my account again! When all this started, I believed that it was an error and that I would receive my money but they never credited my account. Voipo continued to say that I was next in line to receive my credit and as of this day Voipo has not returned my money. They have recently started sending emails with promotions for their services again. I have received a dozen or so emails from them, so they are out there. You still can't contact them in "chat" and you're put on hold forever if you call, so nothing has changed. As long as I have phone service I guess everything is "ok" (not really)! I have been a customer for over a decade and at times they have forward and multiple billed me for service. In the past I have been able to straighten it out, but the last ones are just too much -- there is no customer support, all the responses to tickets are just copy and paste responses. It seemed likely before that they use this unauthorized billing as a was to temporarily raise cash, but now I'm sure. I've noted it as fraud on my credit card and am filing a complaint with the TX attorney general as Voipo is a Texas based company. They claim it is a problem in their accounting department or a software problem. Problem is it has been going on for years. I suspect they'll be closing up shop soon. Go find a reputable provider so you won't have to deal with your credit card having to have a new number issued. read more

I have had good quality VoIP telephone service from VOIPO for ten years and have been satisfied with the phone service, and with their customer service when I had issues. They replaced my phone adapter for free when the first one went bad after several years. Then in 2024 they started adding unauthorized charges to my credit card without my knowledge - $185 in July, September and October for a total of $555.00. On Oct 2 I filed a support ticket requesting a refund of the first two charges and they responded by saying they would forward it to the billing department and it would be refunded in 5-7 business days. Then instead of issuing the refund they added the third unauthorized charge. As of Feb 2025 I still have not received a refund, and have filed a complaint with the BBB. When I telephoned customer service today and asked for billing, they just hung up without a word. They no longer have the advertised "Friendly Agents That Can Actually Help You". BBB has posted several resolved cases with a letter from "the owner"; I'm hoping getting BBB involved will shake them up for me as well. If you want to take a chance on their phone service (mine is still working fine), be sure to do it with a one-time payment so they can't scam you. My credit card was "forward charged" without my authorization by VOIPo in March for multiple subscription cycles. I've gone back and forth with them over the past 2 months. They claimed to have processed the refunds (when they have not) and continue to respond to my inquiries with "form emails" as a delay tactic. I have reported them to the FCC, FTC, TX and CA AG's and BBB. My latest complaint was filed with Visa corporate, in which I outlined my experience with and recommended that VOIPo be "delisted" as an accepted merchant. I would encourage anyone else with a similar experience to do the same with their respective credit card company. This "was" a good company before 2024 in my opinion. I canceled my service which I had for more than ten years due them charging for future services without my concent. I discontinued service on 09/30/2024 after returning equipment and received most of my money back. They attributed this to problems in their accounting department. Well forward to March of 2025 and I get two charges totaling $370 that I am still fighting today. Again their accounting problems so they say but still no money. If you're in the same predicament as me, call your credit card company and put a block on Voipo ASAP. My credit card company Elan financial will not back me to get my money back even though I said it was fraud. I will be cancelling that card next week. I filed a complaint with BBB and saw that all the other camplaints aligned with mine. When I went back to BBB to see if my complaint was posted all I saw was written in red "business profile being updated". Now people cannot read reviews or complaints regarding Voipo On BBB. But, after almost 3 months of following up with them, I still don't have my money. I've complained to the FCC, FTC, BBB, TN Attorney General's Office, and CA Attorney General's Office. This is a horrible company and you should absolutely avoid getting phone service from them. I was a long time customer, and in the beginning, they were a very dependable company, but something has happened in the last few years. The first time they did an unauthorized renewal, I accepted that it was a glitch in their system. But then they did it two more times. It makes no sense why they keep having a "glitch." Wouldn't you have fixed this by now?! I initiated support tickets but they just sit on them. I ended up having to go through my credit card company twice to do charge backs. I have one year left on my service, and I was going to cancel after my year was up, but they seem to have decided to do this early for me, LOL, as they have stopped my phone service (can't get incoming or make outgoing calls). At this point, it is just not worth my time and effort to fight them on this. I am cancelling and returning my VOIP device. I have used this company in the past and it was great. However a few years back the service went to crap after a migration to other servers. I spoke to the owner and although likable he was trying to restore not just my service but all customers service. Alas he failed. I had to port out to another more reliable voip company (Voiply) and my service has been rock solid ever since. Thanks AI R. and all in yelp* Here's another story about VOIPO. I'm 15+ yr customer of VOIPO, an internet phone provider based in Calif. They offered a basic, low-cost service for home internet phone. Their basic plan required a customer to pay up-front cost @ $150+$35 (tax) for 2-yr of VOI service/contract. During a renewal sequence in late 2023, we were correctly notified, billed, and charged for 2 yrs of service via our on-line account However, months later, an unauthorized charge was made on our CC for the account (w/o notice) at standard rate of $185 (Feb 24). A 2nd charge made @$185 just a few days, later. We questioned the charges just a few weeks later using the VOIPO customer support on-line system. A VOIPO company rep responded by email the next day. The email described the billing error and also offered their apology. The rep asked if we'd like to kept the extra service at this price?...or refund. He also offered 1-yr of additional service at no charge (for the error). VOIPO did refund the correct total, $370 which came as a CC credit approx. two weeks later (May 2024). VOIPO rep 2nd email described a company-wide software, automatic billing system error--adding it had since been fixed. I was confident the issue was closed. However, several months later, a second series of overcharges were made--each without notice or our approval. The charges were paid by the CC on file, and today my services was described to have been extend out 6 yrs--2032)? But that not what we agreed. Hows the saying, once a mistake, twice an intent. I am attempting to cancel the service contract and seek a full refund. Sadly, I'm 3 weeks waiting and also sent a 2nd work ticket--so far, no reply. My CC company has been notified, future charges are restricted. But oh the pain as the story is NOT over. My 2 cents, all VOIPO Customers should take action to notify their CC to prohibit auto billing from VOIPO. This company appears to be struggling, perhaps failing...charging customers ? I have used VOIPO for at least 8-10 years now. I never had problems until this past February 2024 when I was getting billed every month. When I cancelled that auto bill pay, it then went to my secondary credit card. I was promised by VOIPO that my funds will be sent back but still no check in the mail. I reached out to my credit card companies and they can only go so far back to dispute charges. I'm down for a class action suit and follow someone's lead but if they file for bankruptcy, I don't think there's much we can do except hope we are refunded by our credit card companies. Basically, they charge you twice. And even if though I pointed this out to them and they promised to reverse their incorrect charge - weeks have gone by and they still have not done it. VOIPO is Fraudulently charging it's customers. Check your financial statements! Since February of 2024, we've had 5 instances of unauthorized charges of $185 each. No response or resolution from their billing. We will be filling fraud claims on all unauthorized transactions this week. Looking at other reports online, it's clear that this is repeated and intentional fraudulent activity by VOIPO to rip off the consumer. All customers who have been defrauded by VOIPO should file reports with the Federal Trade Commission and the Commerce Department. I had a decent time with them for 12 years, but my world changed and I no longer needed it, so I cancelled. This was no easy task, as there is nothing on the website that tells you how to do that. After several communications with customer service, I finally was given the url to cancel. Then the ordeal began. First, they extort you by making you send the adapter back or they'll charge you $50. The adapter was never that valuable, and, it was 12 years old. They're just throwing it in the trash when they get it, but they just want to make it difficult for you to cancel. Then, even though I had cancelled and returned the adapter, they attempted to charge my credit card. Fortunately for me, they weren't able to collect. They are still attempting to fraudulently bill me every day, even though I cancelled and returned their adapter. And on top of that, they're threatening to take me to collections. I have received more than two dozen emails so far, and they're still attempting to bill my credit card every single day, even though I jumped through all of their hoops to cancel. As a FORMER long time customer, I gave chance after chance and beyond for many years to clean up their act. Reliability and support are beyond pathetic, so my advice is only consider use for a non-primary/cheap backup line or forwarding number as you may not be able to receive or make calls at any given point... -support can take easily a hold of 20+ minutes to get someone during their advertised hours, nobody responds at times to online chat support from the web site during advertised hours, and then poor support on top of that! -unreliable SIP server for BYOD devices (e.g. sip client on phone vs. supplied router) -many events where the service is just completely down with no warnings and not acknowledging most downtimes -Complete misrepresentation about free international calls for 60 min/month - undisclosed until signed up about severe restrictions to the list of countries plus specifics of carrier and/or type (mobile, landline, etc.) claiming it's due to too much fraudulent calling -totally botched data center move and lack of redundancy to have stable service - claim that things are fixed and stable that clearly never are and had to fight to get credit for non-working service for several months (e.g. no ring for incoming calls and straight to voicemail, fully down, can't connect to supposedly "working" server(s), etc.) -made it difficult to switch carriers on the way out claiming they have no control over porting out with nonsense that they don't and can't create a pin for it that many other phone providers require (repeatedly said for the new provider to put in 0000 or 1234 which clearly didn't work in my case and finally I got them to create a pin after several interactions with "support") -denied my pro-rated refund when I left before end of term read more
