I have been to Colonial Players several times & it has not disappointed. it's a small cozy welcoming theatre of local enthusiasts who love the theatre & they do such a fabulous job every time. Ticket prices are very reasonable & some discounts are offered such as senior & military. Also, Colonial Players now offers Seat FlexTickets for Adults for $22.00 per seat ($110.00 total) and for Seniors, Students, and Active Military for $18.00 per seat ($90.00) total. They are transferable .... How cool is that? Parking can be a challenge so be sure to arrive with plenty of time before the start of the plays to allow time to get your ticket and get comfortable. Maybe they were having an off night, or maybe I was expecting more based on other reviews here, but they didn't knock my socks off, nor did they really rock the other three people I was with. Tickets were $17.50 each. I'd be interested in seeing them again maybe in an online video to see if they have a better laugh factor than I caught during my live visit. Long story short, I was disappointed, and wouldn't recommend them based on my experience.

The tickets are affordable and easily accessible through their website. Once you go, you will want to go over and over just to see what they can come up with. Because the content is based completely on audience suggestions (and sometimes the audience members even go up on stage and become part of the action!) no show is the same as the last. Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake was a really cool adventure for my kids. They loved all aspects…read moreof it! The adventure starts with a phone call. This isn't the type of adventure you can show up to on a whim. You have to schedule a visit in advance. I scheduled a date and time over the phone. They took my credit card info, a contact number and my kids' names. The first date I scheduled was cancelled due to inclement weather. Pirate Adventures called and cancelled the adventure about three hours prior to when it was supposed to start. I elected to reschedule right then. I was instructed to arrive a half hour before our adventure so the kids could get their faces painted and pick out a sash. We parked on the street a few blocks away not realizing they have a parking lot. We checked in, the kids were given name tags with their name and an alliterative adjective (ie Zig Zag Zora and Kung Fu Kieran) and then reported to the face painting and sash picking area. After face painting kids and adults boarded the boat and the Chesapeake part of the adventure began. The captain went over a few safety measures with the adults while his assistant went through guidelines with the kids. The adventure has a whole story with different parts involved that kept the seven kids on our adventure entertained. Ages ranged from probably three to fourteen. These parts included a map search, treasure hunt, key finding expedition, pirate fight and a final pirate bounty quest. For the adults, we just hung out under a shaded portion of the boat. I got up to interact with my kids a few times and to snap some pictures. Mostly I just enjoyed the boat ride. The whole adventure lasted almost two hours (counting face painting). If you have kids that love to pretend and don't mind riding a boat, Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake might be right up their alley.

Be prepared as the audience is mainly friends and family of the cast - so there is considerable hooting and hollering for specific characters. (This was mentioned in a review from 2019 - so some things never change). As with bathrooms worldwide, there are not enough stalls in the women's restroom to accommodate the lines - especially during intermission. All things considered, I probably will not go back, because... being as this is A CHILDREN'S THEATRE and the play should NOT be 2+ hours! Holy Moly, how do you expect 4, 5, 6 or even 8 year olds can sit still that long? Sadly, I left feeling: set changes, a 20-minute intermission and about 6 songs too many, made me more than ready to go home.

We were so lucky he agreed to drive well outside of his usual area to perform. His illusions were mesmerizing, and he expertly handled a room full of inquisitive and skeptical kids by getting most of them involved in his performance. He gave a great message in the end of the performance also, drawing on the themes of inclusion and acceptance from the Harry Potter stories, which the adults present also mentioned as being a highlight. We cannot say enough great things about his professionalism and performance and we would highly recommend him for any event!

He then put on a 45-50 minute show for all of us, and included some guests, my father, and us in the show!
