This place was so cute and homey and run by sweet ladies. .The decor was lovely, kinda vintagie with an Oma and opa kind of feel :D Lots of outdoor seating and it was bustling. We grabbed a cozy table outdoors. I ordered their special for 13.90 Euros- .5 L of homemade lemonade, choice of hot drink, and choice of a slice of cake. My server gave me a cute Oma coin to go indoors to redeem a slice of cake of my choice. They had about 4 cakes available at the time and I chose the vegan carrot cake. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and happy to cut a fresh slice and asked me if I wanted a small or large slice. I said large pls : D It was delicious and I really enjoyed the icing. Loved decaf latte with oat milk, esp the milk foam on top. The homemade lemonade was nice and light- sparking water with a hint of lemon and mint, and not meant to be super sweet. Looking through a lot of reviews it seems apparent that the atmosphere and environment take top spot in the high praise - the food we found to be very forgettable. We had excellent service, our waiter was quirky - but didn't really have any suggestions after the dish I wanted was sold out. I really wanted to try buchteln, and they said they sold out yesterday of their rolls... which sounded odd, aren't they making fresh rolls in house? I settled for a lemon cake that was made the previous day, had decent flavor but wasn't anything memorable. Cafe au lait was solid! We also did their pretzel, sausage, and mini beer dish. Again, nothing to really complain about but very middle of the road, pretzel was a bit dry. I think we'd skip the novelty of Vollpension next time. read more

My friend and I were in search of breakfast in the area, as it was very close to our Airbnb. After passing a couple spots that were too crowded, we got lucky and were able to squeeze into one of the big tables. They were very busy, but it took a while for our order to get taken. They all seemed to speak English and have English menus so don't worry if you aren't up on your German like me. We got the breakfast platter for two which had all manner of delicious eats. It seriously kept us full for the entire day. My minus one star is because one of the eggs Benedict was like a hard boiled egg... and unfortunately the one that I got! My friends' egg was perfect. Great cute concept to support the elderly but cakes/drinks were not up to par. Perhaps it was towards the end of the day (5:30pm) when I dropped in but there were not many cake options left. It's really good as you get refills on your drinks which is why the crowd was very young. A great hang out place. If you only wanted drinks, there's a menu item for that too. I went to Vollpension over my February break roughly a month ago. Expecting a warm, welcoming environment with delicious baked goods, I was disappointed to find an extremely limited menu and rude treatment from the staff. I ordered a cake with a vanilla drizzle, which was entirely not what I was expecting. It was a flaky pastry in a soup of said Vanilla drizzle. Additionally, they delivered my friend the completely wrong meal, and were extremely rude when we requested they take it back. I paid for my over expensive pastry and quickly left the shop. This place is so cute inside and the service menu is a very interesting concept I've never experienced before! The place is designed to be like the inside of someone's home, a grandma's home to be specific. There is furniture and coffee tables and lots of interesting pictures on the walls and grandma trinkets tastefully placed. There are even grandma like servers to create a whole atmosphere. The service was EXCELLENT! I came here for breakfast and ordered off the small breakfast section. I got the Striezel breakfast which was 3 slices of brioche, butter, jam and honey. This includes two unlimited drinks so I picked a black coffee and iced tea. I also added an upgrade of Grandpa eggs Benedict. The breads and spreads were good but the eggs Benedict was a tad cold and not was I was expecting. It was served in a jar with triangle shaped toast. Next time, I will stick to grandma's cooking instead of grandpa's! You have a total of 90 minutes to enjoy your meal but you can also add on more time at 5,90 euros for 30 minutes which includes a beverage flat rate. read more

DO NOT TAKE KIDS. If you're an adult and have no kids or would go here without kids- yes by all means. Pretend this review is 5 stars then and go. Just not hungry. Portions are very small and options limited. The concept of this cafe is visiting granny. Local seniors act as hosts and do the baking of the famous cakes. I'm told they're delicious. As a gluten free person I couldn't try any which is understandable! Flour in the omelette was disappointing though. The decor is precious. Antiques all over the walls. Antique furniture- the theme is carried out perfectly! Here is where we get to the no kids recommendation. I'll just spell it out so it's clear: 1) grannies does not = friendly. Especially in Austria. I say this as an Austrian (we are low key proud of our unfriendliness). This played out upon arrival already. Our granny host let us know that had she known we had two strollers- she would not have granted us a table. 2) the granny did an aggressive "shush" with hand motion at my toddler. Incredibly rude and condescending. She then brought him a toy. An antique arabesque. He played with it for a bit. The toddler was then intrigued by all the antiques hung at reaching distance. Again, lovely decor. Do not fault this. It is an impossible scenario with a curious toddler though. 3) our order was brought out inconsistently. Drinks came 15 min after the food. Not great with kids. 4) service was... well passive aggressive. Friendly but in a the person was annoyed way. More passive aggressive than regular Viennese table service. We found ourselves desperate to pay and go trying to wrangle the kids around the antiques. They have a no phones program which we could have easily forgone but really all the antiques were too interesting to the toddlers regardless! In conclusion, by all means go and enjoy the lovely theme with a social mission of supporting seniors. Please do. Just don't take kids. read more

My friend and I came for dinner, ordered our food and at the counter, picked up our apricot cake and awaited our warm food. Food ordered: 1. Weibwurste: 5/5 - this came with 2 veal sausages (note that they are white and come in a broth), a pretzel and sweet mustard. I liked everything! The sausage was tougher to cut because of the sausage container/outside but it was delicious paired dipped or drank with the broth. 2. When Yelping places to dine in Austria, I never thought that I would stumble upon such a cute and unique establishment like Vollpensipn. The places is run by grandmas (called "oma") and some younger workers. The grannies do all of the cooking and baking while the younger manages the cashier. The decor is oddly adorable as well, mismatched furniture and dishes. You never know what you're going to get. Their bathrooms are clean and also adorable (all of the women's restroom fixtures were pink!). One thing to note, Vollpension is a cash only establishment. read more

My favorite cafe from my short visit to Vienna! This is a down-to-earth sort of place, with mismatched furniture and a casual, vintage style, and it comes together very beautifully. Vollpension states on their menu that they are an 'intergenerational' cafe. They have both old and young people working, and it shows. The cashier was a young fellow (spoke excellent English) and took my order efficiently. The woman behind the bakery counter as an old but spry grandmother (also excellent English) who advised me about the different cakes and pies available. The food and drink seem to be very good quality. The decor is awesome and hilarious. There's a lot of vintage elements, but also some hipster ones. Like, the ovens used by the grandmothers to make cakes have neon lighting of different colors! The patrons were a great cross-section of Viennese society. There were couples with young babies in strollers, small children, young students, as well as old men and women. Really awesome! My friends and I stopped in here after dinner and my friend suggested it because she wanted to see what the deal was with all those grandmas baking up pies and cakes. Are they amazing? Nope. However, at the very least, it's an interesting spot and a nice place to spend some time during the day or after a meal. When we got in, the place was packed, a good mix of mostly locals? We were lucky to grab some seats right by the front nook. The decor is...different, hipster? Rustic? Either way, you won't uncomfortable here. It was a little chilly outside, so I wanted a hot chocolate. There was hot chocolate with rum on the menu, but sadly, they didn't have it. The hot chocolate itself was pretty good, milky and not overly sweet. Both of my friends got tea, which came in these ginormous mugs; it was just the right amount of tea according to them. We also ordered an apple and grape pie to share. It was a tad on the sweet side, but still good! We were there for a little bit, just to stay warm and toasty before walking back to our place. Went to Vollpension on a Saturday morning for brunch for 3. I reserved a table 2 days in advance and would highly recommend. Inside are comfortable chairs/couches and tables. It has a super cute homey vibe to it. They had english menus and were great at communicating in english as well. All three of us got the "Spicy Grandpa" which included a crusty roll and a slice of dark rye bread, butter, a muhammara like dip, cottage cheese, mountain cheese, fresh horseradish, pickles, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, a soft boiled egg, Viennese ham and pork salami. ⁣So so good and would highly recommend. This dish was €11.90. Also got a coffee for €3.6 ish. There were also cakes being baked FRESH by actualy geandmas in the kitchen! I cannot wait to (hopefully) go back!! read more

Super funky atmosphere, awful coffee. What a shame. It's like kitsch-hipster-boho-i don't know, but each seating area inside is like a mini loungeroom, each styled differently. Lots of space inside and ample outdoor seating too. I didn't try the cakes but they looked really appetising. But, I can't get over the coffee. It's really bad. The Vollpension has everything what my style and chill searching heart is longing for. This Café has it all: It's cosy, comfortable and elegant at the same time and it's located close to the famous Naschmarkt. The name "Vollpension" is a German term and means "all-inclusive". So here in this vintage-café embodying the perfect synthesis of a chillout oasis of Starbucks and the elegance of a traditional Viennese Coffee House you get all-in-one. The Vollpension is a self-service coffee house, with very friendly staff, offering a variety of Austrian coffees, sandwiches, lemonades, Austrian cakes and tartes (which Granny made for you) all for reasonable prices, accompanied by real great music playing in the background...so the playlist is mainly full of the evergreens of all decades, the all-time favorites, and at times simply excellent chillout-lounge music. They have delicious coffees with chives sandwiches as well as a yummy almond-cheese cake. The furniture is from the old times and you feel like God in France sitting in these antique chattels and on the shelves besides news of the day you get not only magazines from the old days but also discover real postcards from real people sent to other real people from the 50ies for instance. Even the restrooms it's all vintage here supported by magazines and accessories from the old times. The only thing is that tall people once they are sitting in one of these old chairs and sofas might not get out easily anymore since people back then were smaller in average as nowadays and so they constructed their furniture. Having said that sitting in these vintage chairs and couches together with this good relaxing music you easily get into the flow leading to these white moments hard to get into in our stressful big city lives. But be aware, Granny's Vollpension doesn't open on Mondays, though the opening hours are top-notch for a Viennese Coffee House lasting from Tuesday to Saturday until midnight and on Sundays till 20:00 (8 pm). Stumbled upon this place when walking and the concept of the place is amazing. The cafe is run by both older and younger people, with those on pensions being still able to work. Spoke to an amazing lady who was born in Austria, lived in Australia and travelled extensively. She was so friendly and made the place seem even more welcoming than it already looked. I purposely dragged my family here based on reviews and made sure to check they were open on not only Sunday, but also Easter. Yay for both, as they advertise weekend brunch. It literally looks like grandma's house, furnished with attic tables and chairs. We played musical chairs with the ancient plush sofa and arm chairs. We agreed to be out in an hour because we didn't make a reservation. Their weekend breakfast choices were few but tasty. We ordered The Spicy Grandpa and Peters Breakfast. The shaved horseradish was divine and the bröt was perfectly crisp outside and soft inside. The table was a little cluttered with stuff, but perfectly homey. Every hour a grandma bakes a cake, so you can take your table number up and make a selection. Water is free and self-serve. My favorite! The only reason this is a 3star is because they only accept Cash, although every listing reads card accepted. There were many people who sat down while we were there who had to step out and find an atm. Glad I had my emergency cash. Also, I ordered the vegetarian meal and received the wrong meal (second time this happened in two days, ironically also a veg dish). read more

If you ask for cream, they give you very little. The space is pleasant enough. Really overrated -- a disappointment especially given how good the idea and other reviews are. The topfen cake was just a bland cheesecake. The pear cake was inedibly dry, as were the poppyseed (mohn) and kugelhopf. Only the rhubarb was ok.
