Avoid Von Paris Moving & Storage. Their crew disassembled our Knoll tulip table without permission, broke it, admitted it -- and took the marble top and hardware with them. We never got it back. They also failed to properly track parts and used incorrect materials (like our own paper towels) to wrap items, leaving multiple items -- including our shelving -- damaged and impossible to reassemble. Most concerning: they promised to fix everything and never followed through. We've been chasing them for months and only get excuses. They were just OK at best. Most of the crew didn't speak a word of English, although they worked very hard. But communication was very difficult. Everything was more or less intact, but ... they lost a $3,000 antique hanging wall map I inherited from my parents. And they have not compensated me for the loss, saying I waited too long to file a claim. Other items were lost, although of less value. I specifically asked them to move the map, so I'm a more than a little burned that it didn't make the trip. I would not recommend Von Paris. Communication problems alone would stop me. read more

I talked to the owner to get my best price to move my son to college. He gave me a great price and his best crew. They loaded his stuff the day he flew and the plan to take directly to Tuscaloosa. He called me after a week waiting so that I could let him buy a bed etc... to move into my home in Tuscaloosa. Months later they call me that they are ready to deliver his stuff. I was so upset that they screwed this up. My son bought $10, 000 of stuff already. I ask to send it back. They quote my twice the cost to send back. I gave them 1/2 of money at the move. Beware before you hire them. I would call everyday if you do. To make sure they remember you and put you in the books. I got an estimate on 4/15 for a move on 4/25. I said I accept. Thinking everything was good. Well I got nothing. No call back. And on 4/25 company never showed up. They left me hanging on my moving date. Like who does that? That's so wrong. Just wanted to update my review. Upon arriving to my final destination (was in storage for a few months) found this is how they packed the boxes. A few of them were practically empty. One wardrobe box with a small box of toys 95% empty, another with just 5-6 items of clothing. A medium box with a small lamp shade. Other lamp shades not packed at all. When I emailed them to let them know of the problem I was told to file an insurance claim for loss or damage. Seems more like inappropriate packing to me. Would definitely never trust this company to pack. Avoid using them if you can. read more

Research has shown that moving is believed to be one of the most stressful life events one can endure in a lifetime - after finally concluding business with Von Paris & North American Van lines, we must respectfully agree with such a statement. At the start - The virtual estimate was professional, thorough and convinced us that we would have our items at the start of the wide spread delivery window (starting September 16th). There was never any verbal mention of outsourcing to North American Van lines or a shortage of licensed drivers/trucks/personnel. It is true Von Paris uses its own trucks and moving personnel when loading/packing and picking up your shipment - but from their storage facility, they broker the items off to North American Van lines - whom are licensed to travel and deliver shipments across state lines. As soon as our delivery was picked up - our stress consistently, rightfully & unfortunately rose on a daily basis from there until the eventual, continuously delayed delivery date of October 4th in Charleston, SC from Towson MD. From September 14th to October 1st - My Wife & I were in constant struggle with the offices of Von Paris & North American Van lines to receive concrete solutions to daily delays in finding a driver for the shipment to be delivered to our new address in Charleston, SC. We were told on a daily basis of what felt like an automated, false empathetic email response from numerous personnel that "They were reaching out to operations for a solution", "They understand our frustrations" & "We'll have an answer for you tomorrow". It took constant phone calls to the general manager, daily email update requests and threatening to return to Maryland with our own rental truck for Von Paris / North American Van lines to find a truck and driver to pick up our shipment from Von Paris by Monday September 27th (at this time it was a day before the end of the guaranteed delivery window of Saturday, September 25th). As soon as we thought our troubles were over - the truck apparently sprung an oil leak upon pickup, adding another week to find a rental truck to get our shipment down to us by October 4th (9 days after the delivery window end date of 09/25). It was brought to our attention that all of the loading dock / contact information was not passed along to the unfortunate drivers - whose truck was too big to fit and had to set up across the apartment facility and shuttle multiple mini-shipments from the trailer to our 9th floor apartment. In addition - I was not present for this process - for I made clear I had to leave for my work tour on an offshore oil tanker on October 3rd (as such - all of this was left for my wife to handle, in a brand new city - with no friends or family members present to assist). In an extensive conclusion - we paid Von Paris & North American Van lines $4,500 to move a 1-bedroom apartment from Maryland to South Carolina that took them from September 13th (pick up date) to October 4th to promptly deliver. What was supposed to be an expensive yet guaranteed process to get our belongings to us before leaving for my business trip - turned out to be a never ending nightmare of uncertainty that caused daily amounts of stress to us while sitting in an empty apartment waiting for a solution to a problem that we never expected to occur. After many multiple state and local moves - following this experience, it has been declared that this will be our last time doing a multi-state move with a Van Line moving company. The only commendable work we can give credit towards would be both the Von Paris and North American Van Line movers themselves - whom were professional, careful, personable and considerate towards all of our belongings. Von Paris's office personnel just simply were not good at their jobs and failed to deliver a basic shipment (for a substantial amount of money) in an overly extended delivery window to a destination that was no more than approximately 9 hours away. While they offer $100/day for shipments above 3,500 lbs. in the form of a delay claim - we will always feel cheated and taken for a ride for the amount of money that they frankly did not earn or deserve, and that we barely had in our bank to budget. At the end of the day - we paid Von Paris $4,500 to use their facility as a storage unit until we had to threaten them enough to scramble up a solution that failed to meet the deadline two times over. We will not be recommending Von Paris to anyone whom asks - we warn anyone who is reading this that if they do decide to go with Von Paris, to expect delays beyond considerable expectations. Do your research on the moving climate of today's times and decide for yourself if it would just be better, more affordable and less stressful to simply rent a truck and do the move yourself. read more

Angie, our coordinator, keep in contact with us through the storage months and answered any questions we had right away. Our moving crew was awesome and went above and beyond by re-assembling our Sleep Number bed-which was quite tricky. I moved in September using Von Paris Moving in early September. As you can see in the photos, they broke the gate to my apartment complex and have refused to pay, leaving me stuck with the $339 bill. Von Paris Moving and Storage is a reputable moving company in Baltimore, MD but unfortunately they did not live up to their motto of movers "with a gentle touch". Every single step of the way for me to make a difficult move during a job transition and while also juggling an injury was more like a punch to the face. There was nothing gentle about it. The price I paid to make 60 mile, 1 bedroom move was nearly 3x what I had ever paid movers for any previous move, totaling $5,483.20. I have a laundry list of complaints, that began on day 1. I have never felt less like a paying customer than with Von Paris. You would think that my being the one paying they so much money, they'd treat me with a little courtesy and respect, especially given that moving is a very hard life event on anyone going through it and they're supposed to be experts at that. While this is not an exhaustive list, the following all did happen: -They charged me $500 extra to change the moving date by 1 day (with lots of advance warning) because of the sudden death of a friend and a funeral I needed to attend. -They broke a large picture frame and left it off to the side near my storage unit, where they were moving it out of, hoping perhaps I wouldn't see it. The storage unit office later called to tell me about broken glass and a frame halfway down the hallway, which one of the movers had clearly placed their intentionally so we wouldn't see it. -There was rambunctious laughter and inside jokes constantly by the crew during both moves to the point I had to ask them to quiet down because neighbors were bothered. -They caused quite an issue on the business office end, which could totally have been avoided if they'd read email communication clearly. They charged the wrong credit card just days before the closing on my new house. This was something they knew about in clear email communication ahead of time; they'd been asked to use one credit card for my month of storage, another for the final bill; they charged the wrong one, thus causing a potential hold on my account that would affect my settlement. -They drove away from the moving site on moving day without telling me and then called me after to tell me they'd left simply because they didn't want to walk back up into my condo one more time to tell me they were ready to do. This meant they were miles ahead of me in getting to the destination. -They played no part in helping to secure street parking (this was a city move) and were less than helpful in helping me figure out how to navigate this process, despite being a local company to the city were I was moving. -They thought my bike (which had been sitting outside the truck waiting to be loaded) was stolen and left the property without reporting this to me, just simply hoping/praying that wasn't the case. (Turns out it wasn't stolen because in the constant complaining with the moving team telling me they couldn't move it, I'd decided to move it to my car; they didn't see me do that; nonetheless the fact they they THOUGHT it was stolen and didn't immediately report it to me was unimaginable). -Their initial estimate for hoisting 3 pieces of furniture through a window (due to small doors) was $375. They seemed as if they were making up prices on the fly, until I asked for a breakdown. I never saw an official price list, just bullets embedded in an email. I had asked if they could give me an estimate for additional pieces in case we ran into an issues. I didn't want anyone refusing to hoist a 4th piece, if we came to that issue. The price immediately went way up, to $1000. I pre-paid $1000 thinking better safe than sorry and confirmed that I could be refunded for anything not hoisted. They said yes. Ultimately we only hoisted 3 items, which would mean I should have only paid the original amount. However, I did not get a refund of $625. Instead, I only got a refund of $478.70 with some kind of backwards explanation about how they were already discounting me with the $1000 estimate. -Their response to my email request for an itemized invoice for my credit card payment for the balance due, which I'd already paid, was "we already sent it to you" (which they hadn't). What kind of customer service response is that? They ultimately sent me what I asked for after about 4 emails, saying "we typically provide customer's their actual charges". Because they'd refunded me a small amount and sent me an receipt of that refund, they somehow thought I didn't need a receipt for a larger credit card balance I had made? Overall, I was just very disappointed and stressed throughout the entire process. Moving is hard and I was doing it alone. They did not make it easier and when I tell anyone how much I paid, even people working in this industry, the faces I got are ones of total shock. I cannot recommend this company to anyone. I feel like they completely took advantage of me and because they're a big company and I am one person, they could. :-( read more

Von Paris' Sales Representative and Move Coordinator both seemed very friendly and trustworthy at first. However, Von Paris overestimated my elderly mother's inventory by quite a significant amount prior to the move, including an entire basement-full of items that she did not intend to bring. On multiple occasions I informed Von Paris of this, and they verbally reassured our family that Mom would ultimately not be charged for any unneeded or unused moving materials; I repeated back their assurances in writing, which they did not dispute. Ahead of the move, the Move Coordinator actually described the specific process where they would tally any unused materials and services afterward (by comparing the final delivery inventory with their initial estimate) and automatically issue a refund. Long-story-short: the "automatic refund" never materialized (it has been more than a year since the move), and when I contacted Von Paris repeatedly about this, I was told various stories: first that the original estimate was "binding" and there would be no refund (which would mean that the initial assurances from Von Paris had been false/fraudulent); later they told me that Von Paris' ledger did show a credit on Mom's account and they would investigate why she had not yet received it; finally, they apologized and offered a "Customer Service Gesture" of $250 -- problem is, that is barely a quarter of the amount that Mom was overcharged! My family would have been willing to accept a "gesture" that was at least closer to the amount overcharged; otherwise the apology does not seem very sincere, and it appears that Von Paris is willing to rip off the elderly. read more

We've moved with Von Paris for the last 3 of our moves over the last 6 years. Each experience is better than the last. Our entire moving crew was amazing. Fernando went absolutely above and beyond to give us the best experience. He took apart some bedroom furniture and noticed the screw that was in place was actually not the correct screw and was stripped. He swung by the hardware store to get us the correct screw and made our guest bed good as new! When we got to the new house, we needed floor guards underneath a piece of furniture. Our old guards were worn and to our amazement, Fernando pulled out 4 brand new ones. Fernando genuinely cares about customer satisfaction and it shows in his work ethic and his demeanor. Fernando and the entire team were hard working and careful during our entire move. We also opted to have them pack up our kitchen into dishpacks and everything from packing to delivery was excellent. Our banisters and walls were covered with moving pads and boxes to protect from scratches, carpet shield and runways on the carpet and floors. This was our biggest move yet. I cannot recommend them enough. They are worth every penny. Our sales representative was Mark McMahon, and his estimate was spot on. We have loved all 3 of our moves with Von Paris. We completed a move (of furniture, rugs and artwork only) from a condominium to a single family home a few weeks ago with Von Paris M&S... it could not have been a less stressful situation (it was a 3 mile move). Although we were pretty organized, the sales rep (Mark) accurately captured every piece to move and thankfully I had time to make a few small adjustments of things I decided to take ahead of time. This company did nothing that they said they would do. I was assured by Matt von Paris that our household goods would be put on a large truck and not moved from truck to truck or warehouse. He also said that the truck would be equipped to load and carry our golf cart. Neither happened. He sent a smaller truck that would be offloaded and reloaded onto a larger truck for delivery. They put the golf cart on a ramp that was to narrow and they damaged the front and right fender of the cart. The side mirror was damaged and it did not ride as it did before. The majority of our move was boxes. We had very little furniture, a vacuum cleaner and misc items. Most of the misc items were damaged in some way or another some to the point of having to discard them i.e. an outdoor lamp, our cats tower, etc. In addition to damage they lost or did not deliver 4 boxes, one of which was full of my shoes, they also did not deliver some misc items. They said they would look for them but never found them. They work with or for North American Moving Services...PLEASE do your research before trusting these companies with your valuables. And if you do use these companies DEFINITELY purchase the insurance, you ill need it! read more

First of all, the estimate done was very accurate. The itemized list was very thorough. He was quick to answer several follow-up questions we had for our move. I'll be happy to update this if we actually end up using them for our move, but our experience so far has been more than worrisome. We contacted them for a quote at the beginning of February for our move in June. They were very responsive, we had a sales person come out and got a quote the same day. The quote was quite a bit higher than the others we received - not just in cost, but the "size" of the move was over 10% higher than the other quotes we received. I questioned it and the sales person had a good response and at that point seemed legit. He walked us through the whole move, that we could get free boxes through VP, that we didn't need to buy boxes at all because he had dish boxes and book boxes and boxes for our mirrors/art work (that we didn't have to include in the quote.) It all sounded great (too good to be true?) and we ended up moving forward and signing a contract. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. Multiple messages left for both our sales rep and customer service rep went unanswered. I finally emailed them and the emails bounced back. Upon calling, I discovered that not one but BOTH are no longer with the company. Some sort of notification would have been nice. Regardless, in talking with the new Customer Service Rep, find out that the boxes are not "unlimited" as I was lead to believe, you get 15 max. And - the mirror/art boxes are $7 a pop - and it sounds like they're not actually boxes, just corners you can put on. Additionally, discovered that there are actually TWO types of contracts. I'd tell you more, but the new salesperson that was supposed to call, I haven't heard from. Being extremely frustrated about being a)mislead b) now feeling swindled by our sales rep with a (I think) shady quote and not given the option of picking what contract we thought would be the best fit for us C) lack of follow up on customer service, it all leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth. We contacted moving companies MONTHS in advance to not have to be taking care of it last minute. Unfortunately, here we are again getting new quotes from movers with NO HELP from Von Paris in explaining our options and/or relieving any concern that their sales guy, who is now no longer with the company, actually gave us a fair quote. read more

After 41 years in our home, it is a very traumatic experience to decide what goes and what doesn't in downsizing. We separated the move into 2 parts... furniture and accessories to storage and furniture and accessories to our children and grandchildren. The 1st day we were competing with Hurricane Isaias. We used Von Paris for a move, and were initially pleased. However, the last moving crew was terrible. They did not use any sort of protective floor coverings, resulting in thousands in damages to new hardwood floors. They also damaged walls and other floors throughout the home, and dropped a couch and treadmill onto the road from their truck, all while the "movers" laughed about it. While reaching out to them was easy, the repair people they sent either lied or didn't do what they should have. Floors not fixed, walls still damaged, and they offered a grand total of just over 1500 dollars for a $3k treadmill and $3k couch, floor damage, wall damage, and antique furniture damage. In addition, they failed to assemble furniture in the new home. The repair company ( a guy in a hat) was not able to completely build them, as there were missing pieces. Luckily, we have everything on video (with audio) from our both inside and outside via home surveillance system. I hope to god they contact us to rectify this situation. We spent close to 7k on moving charges...don't be fooled by their promises or guarantees. read more

We have moved many times, both military and non-military... we have left our belongings in storage and we have done door-to-door moves... we have had good moves and we've had challenges. Our most recent move, with Von Paris Moving and Storage, was BY FAR the best move we've ever experienced, bar none. From the first conversation with John Von Paris, I knew we were in the very best hands as every question was answered and every concern was addressed. Mark's estimate was amazingly accurate and thorough, explaining things we hadn't even considered. Kelly kept in touch with us to coordinate all aspects of our move in a personable and professional manner, always touching base before we even realized we had questions. Tommy and his crew (Bill, Russell, James, and Jay) could not have been a better choice for us. They made us feel as if we were part of their family and took great care with every item, big or small. I also have to commend them for their patience with me as I hovered over them. Every member of that crew became very special to us. Our items were in storage for five months and we were never concerned or anxious about anything, due to the communication we received from the company. Tommy and his crew came to unload our items at the final destination and we couldn't have been more grateful to see those faces again. Continuity made a huge impression on us and knowing that these same guys were delivering our household goods was incredibly reassuring. when we contracted with von Paris we asked for two moves, one week apart. we were told this would cost more, but it was worth it so as to be able to unpack the important stuff first, then work on the second shipment. the first truck arrived one week late. there were mechanical issues and it took them an entire week to decide to use a different truck to pull the trailer. this made the first delivery one day before the second. instead of putting away essential items, they were buried under the boxes on the second truck. a nightmare. when we complained about having paid extra for two moves they said it was no extra charge. funny, not what they said when we paid. lots of stuff arrived broken. tables, lamps, treadmill. haven't finished unpacking yet so who knows how much is broken. read more

We engaged Von Paris to move us, a white glove service, pack, move, unpack. Quote was reasonable, in line with the others. We got everything but a white glove service -- they made promises that they couldn't, didn't deliver. What an awful experience, and recommend you go elsewhere. When we brought this up to the person responsible, he just shook his head, and tried to figure it out with no success - saying that he shared what we wanted, but couldn't help get it done. They put together furniture, but were mixing 2 tables. 2 Months later, we still can't find stuff because they packed it into our basement, didn't actually unpack a number of boxes (even though we contracted for it). And, they said we owe an additional 50% to the original quote, even though we didn't ask for anything incremental. So, if want a provider who will undeliver, break your stuff, miss deadlines, and then charge you 50% more, this is your provider. read more

I'm updating the review a year later here. The move process and insurance work finally came through. All in all it could have been worse but it really does appear as if most of damage was due to things on the loading end and the lack of staff. In doing the unboxing there was a clear point where they stopped giving a hoot. Items from the first two rooms were overpacked and shown love, items from the last room appeared as if someone just started tossing things with little care into the box. Funny that to pack and load I got 2 guys, to unload (no unpacking) I got 3 guys here in Seattle. Clearly something wasn't communicated in my process. I did end up getting paid for the damage but the payout is largely inconsistent and took a long time to actually get (4 months). Some stuff got covered for near full value, other stuff for fractions of their value for similar damage. Overall not terrible but not what I'd expected, especially since I imagine it'll cost more for repair than what they paid me on some things. On the bright side I got to keep everything, so yay? Not that I'll have the chance, but I don't think I'd move with them again. I've dealt with better and I've dealt with worse. To their credit though there was no issue on payment of the insurance, outside of a delay. I'll take it as a lesson learned and ask how many people are coming next time and expect it to be 4 at least. read more

Recently used Von Paris for a move. While our procrastination created an emergency for us, they took it in stride and were able to schedule us in four days. There were several issues which I have tried to work out with their customer service office before Yelping them. I have spoken to Kathy-was told I would get a call back and as nice as she is-didn't receive one for a week. Then called a second time and was supposed to get a claim form emailed which has not shown up. Did get a call from the lead moving guy Mike but am not at all satisfied with the response. Here are the issues: The estimator and final job did not line up. I wanted 2 Pods I had delivered also emptied and that did not happen. Mike the moving manager (?) said it wasn't on his paperwork. Have hired another company. Keep in mind the cost was over $3,000 from Bel Air to Abingdon. The hardware to things in some part has been lost. What they did keep together was wrapped in paper towels and taped and left on the garage floor. Haphazard at best! Professional, expensive movers don't have bags for this and a better process so you know where they've been placed? A bed frame piece was split and they're saying it was probably already broken. My previous experience with movers is that when they see something like that they mention it before touching it. The 1yr old flat screen was placed into its stand and was leaning which 2 of their guys mentioned--shortly thereafter it fell over and cracked. I don't have it on video but it happened. On the unloading it started to rain so they said they'd have to come back in the morning 7-7:30. They showed up at 8:45 after I clearly told them that we had settlement at 10:30 and would have to leave at 10 to get there. This left no time for a walk though. Mike then said he called and the phone was disconnected- sorry but I gave your company my cell phone which is certainly not disconnected. I am also sleeping on the mattress and box spring on the floor bc they said they could not get the headboard up the steps. Did they try? I don't know. But they never offered hoist service where the loft overlooks the living room. If I had used a discount company I could understand this sloppiness and lack of professionalism but at 3k plus? Come on! I hope they will try to make good on these issues but so far I am not very confident. Oh and ask if you're getting Von Paris or a sub since Hampden movers truck was one of the trucks that showed up (their "sister" company). Somehow I had more confidence thinking they were the movers. If using this company make sure someone come out to quote true price !!! Don't go by what they tell you on the phone because you will get screwed over price over weight !! Then they will charge a lot more to get your stuff claiming that the weight was a lot more !!! Also make sure they show up with enough help if not you will end up helping move you own stuff and pay a high price to do it. Also be prepared for at least one of the guy to have issues with what they are loading or the way you have pack something !! Totally worst experiences I have ever had !! read more
