Great patio space for the summer. Food is really good as well! The servers come around frequently to check on tables and are very good with suggestions on the menu! Free popcorn is pretty good to munch on as you

Ok - I'll admit it. I used to go to Von Triers when I was in college (circa late 1980's early 1990's) and throw down a few Weiss beers. We had seen the reports that the place was sold and renovated. On Saturday night I said "Hey, let's go to Von Triers" and I was glad we did. The Weiss beer was still as we remembered, and the food was really solid. My wife got the schnitzel sandwich and I got the jaegerschnitzel. The inside of the place looked the same as I blurrily remembered. The night we went, it was a really laid back atmosphere and the food was really good. We'll be back.

Von Trier is a fantastic spot to enjoy some German food and atmosphere. The mural above the bar is incredible. We were there for a trivia night and it was a lot of fun and on the challenging side. The beer selection was great and they do have a decent food menu. The jagerschnitzel was good, but the gravy was almost a little too sweet. I prefer a more savory gravy. The rest was pretty good though. Staff was great, especially on a busy night.

I am not a bar guy at all but I must admit I like this place. They have the best hot drinks--I recommend the hot cider (Apfel Cider) and the Hot Buttered Rum. Both delicious and perfect when it's cold out. Their fish fry is also pretty good. I rarely go when it's busy unless I can get a table in the corner. It does get pretty loud the later it gets but if you go earlier it's pretty chill without being dead.

Free popcorn upon request, chill weekday vibe. Cool Milwaukee-themed postcards up for grabs on your way out.

Stopped for a fish fry with family, and we were very pleased. A quaint place with great German atmosphere. We sat outside on the patio and had a friendly attentive server. Took our orders quickly. My fish fry was excellent with 2 pieces of crispy batter fried cod, potato pancakes, rye bread and cole slaw. Everyone enjoyed their experience.

Best bar on the East Side! Great staff, great food, great specials. The outside area is nice, weather permitting. They also have free popcorn! One of the best pretzels in Milwaukee - the cheese and mustard are so good. Trivia on Thursdays is always fun and a good group.

Great beer and steins, great service, great ambiance, great pretzel! This place came highly recommended while my friends and I were planning a trip to Milwaukee. We came on a Friday afternoon, so it was very quiet - but I can see how this place would fill up quickly and be lively in the evening or on the weekend! Unfortunately, the cheese curds were so incredibly salty we couldn't even finish them - which is so sad, because we had heard such great things about them.

A very cozy feeling authentic German restaurant with wall murals surrounding the main room. Not crowded on a Friday night (was the same weekend as Germanfest) so quiet quick service. Great German beer lineup (though an IPA mixed in) with appropriate glassware. Just back from Packer's owners meeting, so had to have the bratwurst. Good meal all around.

I didn't have a full meal but we did have some great beers, managing to land during the happy hour to get a discount on the first round. Service was good. Our waitress got a little distracted by the group at the patio but was other was otherwise friendly and helpful. Great stuff. Beers? Cold and delicious. A lager for first round and second, the Weihenstephean hefeweizen that was perfect, served with a slice of lemon. Cheese curds? AMAZING. Super hot, fresh, flavorful and exactly what I expect in Wisconsin. And we also split the pretzel, it was tasty stuff. I preferred the mustard over the cheese sauce. Good stuff! The beer list here is great authentic German beer and the food is nothing to be slept on! It's a great place to stop for dinner or just a beer. The inside has these huge murals that add to the aesthetic, it's a fun place to get a drink and the staff is always friendly!

Are they serving food yet? It's been months and I've given up stopping in there to be told the kitchen is closed. They used to have the best food and I want some more

I was there the third week of June - no food at that time. No date given on resuming food service. They do have the best beer in town.

However, the continuous construction (I feel like it's been since 2012??!!) is always extremely discouraging and parking is like the survival of the fittest. The pub itself has a similar vibe to Three Lions. I ADORE the Union Jack painted on the ceiling and red English phone booth. It is reminiscent of a stereotypical "English" pub (and yes, I have been to many - mostly outside of London - in the past 3 years). There was only one employee working at my time of visit, and maybe 10-15 other patrons. I ordered the Ruben rolls, which were great but left in the fryer 2 mins too long. Sadly, they did not have any of the ciders or beers I longed for.... which is understandable these days due to tariffs. I definitely plan on going back to see what the vibe is like during World Cup matches.

Chicken tenders come out burnt or the food is not as advertised. Their shepherds pie is not braised lamb, it's ground beef instead. Still tasted good, but disappointing. Several things on their website menu are actually never available. Service has been decent, sometimes takes a while for them to come back around, but the place is always packed for trivia.

The food and drink were just as evocative. I had the pork schnitzel with mushroom gravy and pomme frites. My grandson ordered the currywurst (fried sausage in a delicious curry-tomato sauce). My wife went vegetarian with rotkraus (roasted red cabbage) and kartoffelsalat (warm German potato salad). All of the food was outstanding. I paired my meal with a liter stein of true German Dunkel. Thanks as always to Yelp for finding OGBH - because this place is AWESOME! We wanted to sit at the bar, but the bar was busy, so we grabbed a table in the other room and the bartender came to us about 4 minutes later and said there were 2 spots at the bar! So, we moved to the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the next 3 hours - we might still be there, if it wasn't for the Brewers game we had tickets to! We enjoyed several different beers on tap, talked with the bartenders - specifically Mitch and Sarah and of course the other people at the bar. We enjoyed the OGBH Brat - for sure the best brat I have ever had. The bun is perfectly warm and toasty, the brat is delicious and full of flavor and of course, it's snappy! We even tried the bavarian pretzel with the yummy cheese! I love this place - I don't have to search for anywhere else to go now that I have found this gem!
