I love this store, in general, but today.... Dan, in the egg department, made my day! My 8 yr daughter just received a "book of spells" (Disney's Descendants), and the love potion calls for 2 eggs from black hens. When Dan heard this...he went for it!! He said that he knows the farmer delivers eggs from black hens on odd days, and searched.... He asked me if they should be organic, free range?? He managed to find a the perfect box of 6 organic, cage free eggs on an odd date! How fun!! My daughter was so excited, and I was cracking up at how helpful and fun Dan made our search!! Today I was in Vons, a store I frequently visit and today it shall be my last shopping here. I wanted to pay using self check out but at the time the machine was having some issues and not letting me pay I asked multiple times for help but the supervisor Dulce who was in charge of the area ignored me multiple times until another worker came in and told her to help us. We needed help removing an item and she gave me so much attitude for a simple request, the machine was still having issues and since she was of no help I decided to pay at the Cashiers instead. Dulce followed me and my daughter to the opposite side of the store all the way to the cashiers acting as if we were gonna steal from the store. As we were about to exit she followed us and began screaming insults at us publicly in front of all the other customers and workers. What kind of person with such terrible mood and manners is in charge of customer service. I work as a manager and I ever pulled a scene like that I'd be fired on the spot. She shouldn't be having contact with the customers since shes so uneducated in doing her job. I do not recommend this Vons to anyone! read more

I've given up shopping at any Vons location and give my business to Trader Joe's, Ralph's, Lazy Acres, Gelson's or Target. For ease I prefer using any stores "Self Checkout" vs going through the register checkout. Vons Self Checkout is obnoxious! The voice speaks constantly, turns off constantly requiring an employee to reactivate. Frequently an employee isn't assigned to the Self Checkout area and comes from the front cubicle requiring the customer to wait. Please visit other stores, your competitors who successfully utilize Self Checkout and view their program vs your constantly yapping, shutting down, customer alienating Checkout. Numerous times I've kindly mentioned the problem and am ignored by a dark haired female employee in Vons management @ your Hermosa Beach location. Her rudeness has prompted me to address the problem and also rate Von's Hermosa Beach location as not customer service friendly. read more

Had a great experience today at Vons with the bakery. I have a big event coming up & needed to order some cupcakes. I was helped by Jaide & boy was I glad to see her. I had a hard time deciding, but she offered suggestions & gave tips on other things I can purchase in the store to help my event be a success. I'm glad because it will save me a lot of time instead of going to so many stores. Thanks Jaide for going above & beyond to help me! I can't wait to see my cupcakes. Go there only for the sandwiches which are tasty. However, if you are in a hurry (i.e. lunch hour) they take forever. I sometimes think the employees do anything to look busy and NOT have to help a customer. If you are third in line...go elsewhere. read more

Been coming here at least 3 times a week for a couple years now...friendly, clean, and convenient place to shop. The main reason I am writing this review is because they play fantastic music (from the 80's) here. I am not kidding...there have been numerous occasions that I have gone home and hopped on iTunes to download something I just heard in the store. read more

I dunno about VOns itself... but the parking lot rules! After drivong around all of la and vicinity... getting lost in Compton at 2an and witnessing domestic abuse down by the Santa Monica peir, we finally found a 24 hour McDonald's and.a place to rest our heads on none other than this vons parking lot. We suspected it was cool here because the amount of cars parked including a couple of RVs and a.rape van... so we blended right into the mix of things. It was quiet and no one bothered us all night... best sleep I've had in a while. Now we are right by the beach and ready to roll on this nice day. Vons is even open 24/7 and they let is use theory bathroom too! This place rules! read more

This is my store. Me and my family have gone here for years. It is clean and the staff is amazing. Especially Austin he is amazing.

I HATE this market- Nothing is easy to find, things are constantly moved around the store, and prices fluctuate WILDLY- The beef is tough, the produce often CRAPPY- They are constantly dropping products I have bought from them for years, in favor of their own house brand, or to make room for 14 flavor variants from the competition- I am VERY happy we now have Jons on 190th, and soon will have Trader Joes as options- read more

If you can go anywhere else on earth for groceries, do yourself a favor. Be prepared to wait in line for 30 min during hot shopping hours.

I only know about the sushi from Miss Nan at the Von's deli, but I can tell you it's outstanding. I love it for good value, take home no hassles. Always fresh and a beautiful display. I started eating sushi for breakfast because they have it at Vons and it's as good as any restaurant in fact better than most. Miss Nan will setup with some good Sushi! ;-) read more

This rating is solely for the Deli Meat & Salad Department. I went there now 4 days in a row around 5:30 pm to buy chicken wings and I always saw the same staff handling this section. Let me tell you, it takes and extra effort to work that slow while people are lined up the be served. They also perfected the art of ignoring you and basically looking tru you !!! There is no acknowledging of anybody in the line, nothing like a "we will be right with you" or a "sorry for that wait" !!! They just waddle around in their aura of "I hate my job and I let you know that I do" !!! This store is great ESPECIALLY the floral department, the buyers over there know what's up furrr surrre! However, the purpose of this review is to call out a certain manager (you know who you are), who was just ringing up my groceries and while doing so noticed that one of her employees was wearing the wrong shirt. With the biggest attitude, eye brows raised and lips pursed, scolded this young lady standing 20 ft behind me and sent her home. Working at a grocery store as a youngster was one of the most thankless, body stressing gigs that I have ever had and I can not believe that ladies' way of managing her team. That young professional is not her delinquent step child but that's how she spoke to her. Someone needs to check her! PS- no one will notice that her shirt is different than the others and I think I can speak for most people when I say that we would prefer that everyone wore what they feel good in (within reason obvi) k thx bye read more

So sick of completely being ignored at the deli counter. ONE person taking care of customers while 4 or 5 are goofing off in the back. THE worst service. Today, in particular a chubby, swarthy gentleman with a messy man-bun stood right in front of me and did absolutely nothing to help me or the other 4 or 5 people waiting. Produce is pretty damn good...lots of organic stuff..overall very pleased with their produce selection. Store is clean and usually pretty well stocked. The negatives? They are always soliciting for some sort of charity and have signs on the check outs saying something to the effect of: if your checker doesn't ask you to contribute, let us know and you will get a free soft drink or something like that. I find that demeaning, irritating and just plain wrong! (I know that the personnel gets very very very tired of soliciting donations, just so corporate can make a grand presentation of how much Vons contributes to charities! Don't shop here after 9 p.m......bad service, not enough checkers and kind of a weird unhelpful vibe. And yeah....morale doesn't seem to be too high amongst the employees, except for the produce dept. The meat dept. personnel are helpful. read more

Just OK. Their meat section is very poor, not USDA Choice, but some nonsense called "Rancher Reserve". Prices on meat for this low quality is expensive. Their Web-Site of pretty good, and prices overall if an item is on sale is good. They are re-modeling, & it appears that prices have revently (5/2014) increased. Vons is the only convenient food supermarket in Hermosa Beach, and they seem to take advantage of this fact. On the positive side, they are open 24/7. read more

The checkers here are great, as are the Starbucks baristas, but god forbid you want something from the deli. I understand that the wages the workers are paid is subhuman, but so is the service the deli provides. If you are the only one in line you will grow old waiting for your meat, if you are anything but first in line you've a better chance at seeing the next millennium than getting your order before you die, your bones turn to dust, and the world ends. The deli service is so absurdly horribad that it motivated me to Yelp about it. read more

I don't know what I would do without Vons considering that I work across the street at the Hermosa Pavilion and there is not much within walking distance. I love the deli and the soups are great. The staff are always so friendly and helpful and the prices aren't that bad. The only problem is the crazy drivers in the parking lot. read more

I ask the supervisor joseph (I think ) for some toiletries because tge restroom needed to be restock. So he walked all the way you the front and made an associate come help me. The daytime staff at this store is excellent. However, their night crew is an entirely different story. The cheerful, service oriented checkers and baggers from the daytime are traded for zombie-like counterparts on the night shift. In the daytime, shelves are stocked, cold-cases are full, and the store is clean. At night, the soft drink cold case in the front of the store is usually empty or poorly stocked, and the shelves are running low, especially on sale items. One daytime checker, Qrystina (I believe that's how she spells it) is such a nice, smiling lady who always makes sure to greet, and engage with customers. I don't think I've ever seen her in a bad mood. On the other hand, one of the night checkers, Lev, is so abrupt and lacking personality, its almost like a corpse is ringing up the groceries. He doesn't say hello, rarely tells you the total for the bill, and never says thank you or anything. A complaint to Candace, the night manager, was brushed off, and she said checkers are not required to engage in small-talk or anything with the customer. If that's the case, then they should just get self-checkout lanes at night and save the money on labour. This location is truly bittersweet for me, and unfortunately, they're leaning far more toward the bitter side of that spectrum. 2 stars for poor management, and less-than-satisfactory service. read more

We went to buy lobsters. The seafood cases were wide open. While looking at a tray of the lobsters, I touched a shell with my finger. A woman from behind the counter dashed out and started yelling at us not to touch the food. She kept repeating it in a loud voice causing a scene. She demanded to know which lobster I touched and I pointed to it. I bought 3 because I needed them for Christmas dinner. I know you aren't supposed to touch the food, but the embarrassing way we were treated was appalling. I definitely won't go back. read more

The people who work in the deli should all be fired. I generally go to the market between 8-9am. This morning the woman just completely ignored me and went about her conversation (in Spanish) with a coworker as she lazily opened a box. I finally shouted "hello" to her and she decided she could not avoid 'working' any more and scooped some broccoli salad into a container for me. Every time I go to the deli I get the same pathetic customer service so I rarely bother. What is the matter with them? Clean house and start over with people who actually want to do their job!! read more

I am so sorry to have to give this store a low rating but shopping here for me is extremely unpleasant. This was my go to store in the late 80s but now it pains me to see how frustrating this store is to shop in. The wine, the produce, the flower/plant sections and the Starbucks are the only areas that are done well. There were at least 20 products that I could not purchase today due to the inconsistent stocking and ordering in this store. Now that my favorite Ralphs in Hermosa Beach will be closing. I need s new place to do my major shopping. It can't be this Vons. It is unfortunate because this store has such a nice location and a spacious building too. Ralphs is a smaller store but was so well organized and stocked. I am so sad to see it go. Although Trader Joe"s, which will be going into the current Ralphs location, will be nice. It isn't a store I can do all my shopping in. I like supporting my city and try to keep my business in Hermosa and will go to this Vons for a few items when I have to. But sadly, this store needs major improvements. read more

GREAT NEWS!!!! Ann from the Redondo Beach Albertsons is now working here. I was very said when I heard that Albertson got sold to Haggens. I could only bare going there once but Ann was still there so that is the only reason I went. To no surprise Haggens went out of business. I started shopping at Vons again. to my surprise there was ANN again. I hope Vons values her as a great employee that she is! read more

I go by the Starbucks in Vons almost every night and anytime I see the girl that works there named Krystal my name is suddenly changed. She is always so cheery and sometimes we chat for a little and it just makes my week. I love that girl and she deserves a raise honestly i'm sure they're not paying her enough for her quality social skills and customer service.
