I was really surprised to stumble upon this big, spacious local bodega/grocery store just a block or two from the beach. It's unexpectedly large for a place by the shore, and I was thrilled because even though I checked Yelp and Google, I couldn't find much info. They're open super early and stay open late, and it's just such a gem especially since that area tends to shift toward restaurants or other businesses. This neighborhood really needed a good grocery store, and they have everything: fresh meat, drinks, snacks, fruits just like a full local grocery. The staff was really nice and laid-back, though the only downside is that parking is super limited and intersection it's tough to get in and out since it's near a small with a red light. Still, I'm really glad it's there, and I want to give a big shout-out to the local folks to support this place. The prices are really reasonable, and we need to keep these local businesses thriving. they're the heart of the community. I gave them five stars. I just hope they can clean it up a bit inside, maybe freshen up the shelves or ceiling. But overall, I'm so happy it's here, and we need more of these places in our city. read more

One of my first stops on every trip to our old neighborhood is Boccatos. It used to be 3 blocks away and we used it daily for all kinds of groceries and the great choice of booze. And, then I tried the CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH!!! My life changed. So, yesterday we went and hugged Franco and took the sandwiches back to the hotel to correctly enjoy. Been here a handful of times. This is definitely the last time. Italian subs are our go to, but they were really disappointing this time around. Pitiful amount of meat, so our sandwich was mostly bread. Super rude employees this time, especially the older woman who took our order. Left a bad taste in our mouths. Good while it lasted. Honestly, not sure what took me so long to leave this review since I live right across the street and go here enough. I'll keep it simple. Good people + good sandwiches + good quality groceries + good energy. They were even nice enough to let me borrow their broom yesterday...thanks for that! :) The longer I live in Hermosa, the more I understand how important this gem of a store is to the community. 3 1/2 Stars for the sandwich, 4 1/2 stars for the Market, solid 4 star average. I got the Turkey sandwich with Swiss on a French roll. The bread wasn't great, and this sandwich is very bread forward. The ingredients itself were fresh with a good taste to it, but overall I've had better sandwiches. The market itself is awesome with a great selection of snacks, beverages, wine & beer. A little grocery store with a variety of drinks and a sandwich shop very close to Manhattan Beach. It's one of the only places with a restroom close by so that was our initial entrance but was excited to grab some snacks within as well. I opted for some of their cold salads like the burrata and mac salad, both of which were tasty and did have a good size to each them. There are plenty of drinks for purchase as well as a sandwich shop that I would be interested in trying on my next visit! Stumbled upon this store awhile back looking for a good sandwich and decided to go back to pick up lunch today. Honestly remember the sub being a lot better the first time around. While the meat, cheese and veggies were good I was disappointed in the French roll. It missed the right flavor and tasted kinda whole grain esque. As the majority of the sandwich is bread, it was a bit disappointing. The sandwich is good but not great. However the workers are always nice and the market is cool. Everything is on the higher end but they sell a large amount of products and I love the fresh deli section. The large sandwich is easily two large meals for me, and the price is up to $13. Which is relatively high but the sandwich is pretty big. read more

Not good. Just very mediocre. Nothing gourmet about this place. The sandwich I got was bad. The fresh salad from the deli was inedible.

The employee at the sandwich counter is very helpful. Sandwiches are made during open hours and platters can be ordered about 24 hours ahead of time. Took about 5 minutes to make 3 sandwiches. Came here hoping the sandwiches are similar to Larchmont Wine and Cheese in Los Angeles since the owners are the same. Used to get sandwiches there when I lived in the area. The 2 different sandwich prices depend on what type of bread you get. 1. Tuna Sandwich: Get this all the time at Larchmont. I upgraded for the baguette from La Bread bakery. I added balsamic vinegar but forgot the swiss cheese. It tasted pretty close to the Larchmont one. The tuna salad itself tastes pretty good. 2. Salami sandwich: Had it plain with cheese and French roll bread. I think I'd probably get a different bread next time. Was too much bread for the sandwich. 3. Roasted Turkey Breast: comes with sun dried tomato paste, swiss cheese and balsamic. Couldn't really taste the tomato paste. For whatever reason, all the sandwiches were cut pretty unevenly in the middle so if you're sharing a sandwich, someone is gonna get less. Otherwise it's a small grocery store with the usual items you can find. There is an interesting selection of chocolates and chips. There are about 4-5 parking spaces out front but you would need to back out onto the small street/intersection so be careful. Good place to come if you live nearby. read more

This deli/market is a gem! The chicken salad sandwich was delicious and full of flavor on super soft, fresh French bread. The pesto tortellini was scrumptious and the pesto sauce was perfectly flavored with herbs and spices. The market is well stocked with anything you could possibly need from chips, soft drinks, wine, and roses to books and random knickknacks. Came in here cause a chain grocery store didn't have any ready to go sandwiches. This place was closer to the beach and had good reviews so we came by...and I can't be happier that we did! Great service by everyone who helped us. I got a turkey sandwich which was good, but my boyfriend got an Italian which was AMAZING. My favorite place. It feels like home. What a treasure to be able to walk to get your groceries, a great sandwich for the beach, or a homemade dinner from friendly people who really care. Frankie, the owner, is an absolute doll. Truly. Always so helpful, accommodating, sweet, personable- my family always enjoys talking to him and the other employees here. They remember locals and are incredibly community centered. The grocery assortment is exactly what you need/want down the street, the deli is incredible, the wine selection is fab. Boccato's is an incredible little bodega and deli in Hermosa Beach. Our main reason for going the 15 miles to Hermosa is for their deli...it's awesome. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and I'd recommend the turkey or the tuna salad...both are amazing. The way they make it shouldn't be messed with in my opinion, but they'll allow changes to their style if desired. If you're there for a few extras to stock up the kitchen, then pick up some of their fresh meat cuts in addition to fruits and veggies. A few parking spots directly out front that are free in addition to the limited street parking. Definitely stop in if you have a chance. read more

Honestly almost every time I come in here I have had a bad experience. Today I ordered a sandwich on ChowNow and it was an easy ordering experience. I ordered around 1215 and the pickup was 110pm. I was already on my way over and tried to cancel but no one picked up. YES I KNOW ITS BUSY ON SATURDAYS. So I stood in line to order a new sandwich, but let the girl know I had placed one online. There were two separate women who were rude to me. I asked what the best solution was. Either cancel my order or make a new sandwich since I was there. Honestly that should not be a big deal, that is your job. I also often see posts online that sound fun and with nightly specials. I've been in a few times and I never really feel the staff is that friendly. They act like I'm a weirdo for ordering what I saw posted online. My friend used to live by your store and always loved it, but at this point I'm not so sure what there is to love. I would really consider working on your customer service skills when you portray to be such a fun neighborhood market. read more

Boccato's is a true South Bay gem. Not a huge selection of things, but every thing they have is very high quality and they have a nice assortment of things. I wouldn't go here to do actual grocery shopping, but where they really shine is if you're sitting on the beach and you're hungry and you don't want to drive anywhere Boccato's is the place to go. The parking is pretty limited but even though I've always walked here it never looks like the parking is full except maybe during peak summer weekends. The thing that really makes Boccato's special though is there sandwiches and deli section. They make BOMB sandwiches, perfect for picking up and carrying back to the beach to grub on. They also have a variety of prepared deli salads like potato salad, mozzerella and basil, etc. While you're there, also pick up some chips and dessert and you've got the perfect beach meal. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that they're a little bit on the expensive side. Not that it's not to be expected for a location so close to the beach, but it still feels a little steep to me. read more

Boccato's Groceries serve some delicious 10 inch gourmet sandwiches. Ordered the Caprese gourmet sandwich served on a baguette and filled with mozzarella cheese, basil, tomatoes, olive oil and vinegar. Go ahead and add everything including onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, pepperoncinis with a helping of mustard and mayonnaise. It was put together by David, a longtime employee and outstanding young man. If you ever get the chance to drop by, you should ask for David and his "David special" which is a specialty gourmet sandwich he expertly puts together. The "David special" is very much like the Caprese such that it's a La Brea baguette roll with basil, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and the optional sprouts, cucumber and/or sun dried tomato spread. Great little market for a sandwiches. Many of the meats are cooked in-house, and all of the salads are fresh made. Nice selection of standard type sandwiches, as well as some more fancier types. You pick your bread, cheese, meat, and what toppings you want. They also have good selection of drinks and chips to go with your sandwich. The rest of the market is fairly small, but they do have a great meat counter and pretty good selection of spirits and beer. Only a few blocks from the sand, so great place to get a picnic lunch. read more

Looked around and BAM! In their little freezer are frozen treats made by Manhattan Creamery! Wut?!
