Sandwiches have really gone downhill. I've been going to Granny's since I was a kid, and this is not the experience it used to be. They consistently forget major components like condiments or vegetables that are clearly listed in the sandwich description. Lately I've had to remind them or ask for extras just to get what is supposed to come standard. Today it happened again. I asked for oil and vinegar and received a dry, inedible sandwich. When I called to explain that this has happened multiple times, the person I spoke with essentially called me a liar, insisting it had been added, despite the fact that there was no oil on any of the wrappers. When I asked how they planned to make it right, especially given the astronomical prices they charge for sandwiches, I was told they might give me extra oil and vinegar next time and possibly a bag of chips. Nice customer service. Great idea to throw digs at loyal customers. Super smart. The new ownership the past few years is disappointing. It's unfortunate because we live just a few blocks away and come here often. When I order something, I expect to receive what I ordered and I certainly do not expect to be talked down to when there is a mistake on the deli's part. We have spent so much money there over the years but no more. PS they are always super pushy with asking for a tip when you pick up your sandwich too and most of the staff become irritated when you press the "no button" and give you a weird attitude....talk about an environment that's the opposite of your friendly neighborhood grocery store. My favorite sandwich is the longboarder on sliced squaw bread with meunster cheese and salami. I keep it simple with a toasted everything bagel, cream cheese, and red onions--perfect beach fuel IMO. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because they don't have a full alcohol license. My friend lives in Hermosa and we really wanted a good Italian sub. She said she wanted to try this place so we Checked it out. First the service was beyond amazing. It's very hard to find people who care nowadays and the woman working gave us a full rundown about the business history as well as the menu. I've never had the owner walk out, introduce herself, and personally walk me through the menu before. Ended up getting it on a French roll, toasted, with Swiss cheese and added Olives. This was packed with fresh ingredients like avocado and sprouts, delicious pickles, perfect proportions and so tasty! This spot is located in a small grocery with a retro vibe and so many great beverages and snack options. Parking was easy, got a spot right in front. This place has soul, it is the heartbeat of the neighborhood and is a true neighborhood market. You are always met with the warmest greeting by the kindest people, the food and drink options at the market are clean and unique, and they have one of the best veggie sandwiches in town! They are truly good neighbors. I've even called to see if I could borrow their can opener once because I was in the middle of making chili and realized I don't have one and they had no hesitation in letting me use it and bring it right back. SO GOOD - we order pickup from here at least 1-2x a week! This place is QUALITY! PARKING: Neighborhood street parking right in front. PRO TIP: We usually call 20-25 minutes before and they have our orders ready at the front. MY USUAL ORDER (can they just call this "The Eunicorn" already???): Longboarder (#11) on squaw roll (SO GOOD!!!) with provolone and ovengold turkey, no mayo (personal preference), no tomatoes (reduces potential sogginess), add pepperoncinis (some heat!)... with the bread/cheese/meat toasted! Love love love that the Longboarder includes avocado and sprouts by default. HIS USUAL ORDER: Same as mine but with cajun turkey instead (he's taken a few bites of mine in the past and switched from his Turkey & Cheese (#4) to mine one day)! We've tried the Hot Pastrami (#10) which was excellent as well. We've also picked up for friends and family from this place and they've all LOVED their orders as well. The customizations are endless so make your perfect sandwich! Oh and GET THE SQUAW ROLL (roll not bread), it's quite rare to find and an absolute GAMECHANGER for sandwiches! We ordered two sandwiches to go. Lin ( Lindsey) took our order, which was a roast beef and cheese on sliced squaw bread and a veggie wrap in a spinach tortilla. Lin said our order would be ready in 25 minutes and it was ready when we picked it up. Lin is friendly and helpful. She has outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills and was exceptional when she gave us small boxes and plastic forks to help us store the food which we ate on the cool and quaint patio at Granny's. The sandwiches were delicious and very fresh. One recommendation is to have horseradish available for the roast beef sandwich. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

The most above and beyond customer service experience of my entire life! My dog was having a stomach issue and I was calling various dog stores and grocery stores asking if they had canned pumpkin in stock. Nobody nearby had it, and I couldn't drive far with a sick dog and toddler. I saw Granny's Grocery on yelp and called as a last resort. Voc answered and told me they had just run out of pumpkin (I was shocked they even carried it when the large grocers didn't have it, but I now realize they have everything). Now comes the crazy part - I told him what it was for and he said that he didn't want my dog to be sick or for me to worry, and that he knew of a grocery store that had it and that he would go get it for me. I honestly thought he was kidding - who does that?! But he told me his wife Betty would be there momentarily to watch the store while he went and got me pumpkin. 30 minutes later, he called me to tell me he had it for me Even writing this review makes me want to cry with gratitude all over again! I wasn't a normal customer and didn't live nearby - he did this completely from the goodness of his heart. I walked over from my friend's to pick it up with the toddler in tow and walked into a wonderland of amazing food, wine, gourmet beverages and snacks, homemade cookies, healthy food, unique candies... the place is amazing. They even had a toy treasure chest for my Godson to choose a few prizes. These people deserve every ounce of business anyone can give them. They were so kind and thoughtful and I'm beyond appreciate of the amazing service. They also do story times outside the store with Betty reading books to children and serving treats. I was waiting the whole trip to try Granny's grocery's since it appeared to be a niche little spot in the midst of an apartment neighborhood. When we rolled up I got even more excited! There is parking right in front on the curb. The umbrellas and pretzel lady out front invite you into the warm atmosphere. Everything feels like love and care. The inside has many good treats and unique flavors of classic snack foods. There are cookies and pastries and ice cream sandwiches made by local artists that are delicious with unique and healthy ingredients. They've got a large selection of drinks including freshly made smoothies. We came for the deli and both got the long-boarder sandwich. I got squaw bread and provolone cheese and my mom got wheat bread and Muenster cheese. Both were great, but obviously I'm biased toward squaw and you can rarely find it anywhere which is why this place is such a treat! We took our sandwiches to the beach, which was a quick 5 minute walk from Granny's, and boy were they delicious! There's nothing like a quality sandwich shop and I've found my new LA favorite. The special touch was the everyone working there felt like a family and locals were popping to buy produce like a tomato or two, which just shows how casual and useful this little place is to the neighborhood.
