Granny's is a true Hermosa Beach staple. Tiny, yes--but the service is always (and I mean always) amazing. My friend swears by their Cajun turkey, but me? I keep it simple with a toasted everything bagel, cream cheese, and red onions--perfect beach fuel IMO. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because they don't have a full alcohol license. If you want a drink, you'll have to snag it at Mickey's down the street. Other than that? Granny's never disappoints. Ever.

Granny's Grocery is a 100-year-old neighborhood spot tucked away in a totally unexpected residential area -- the definition of a hidden gem. If you grab a sandwich and a coffee in the morning and sit outside, you'll see locals walking by in their comfy clothes, starting their day. When you order a sandwich, they give you pickles on the side, and I always get the macaroni salad. A small is never enough... because it's that good. Overall, it's such a charming little neighborhood shop that it's hard not to love

Long boarder with turkey and Gouda on squaw. Again, really great! Can't wait to come back.

My friend lives in Hermosa and we really wanted a good Italian sub. She said she wanted to try this place so we Checked it out. First the service was beyond amazing. It's very hard to find people who care nowadays and the woman working gave us a full rundown about the business history as well as the menu. We decided to share a sandwich and got some chips and drinks. We wish they had chairs with tables instead of the bar top tables so we could eat there but we ended up walking to the beach and eating there instead. Great experience.

Had the most lovely sandwich with pickles! Granny's Grocery is a quaint shop tucked in the streets of Hermosa Beach and I'm so happy to have found this little gem. It's clearly a local favorite. The owners were so friendly and sweet. Thank you so much!

Cozy little deli spot with wall to wall goodies and stories! The new owner is incredibly friendly and told us some lovely stories about the wonderful graphic designer that made their merchandise. The sandwich menu has definitely gone up in price, but the quantity and quality of the food is still top tier. Everything was made fresh to order as we got to browse the shop, they carry everything you could possibly want for a picnic at the basic/common level to the small batch/locally produced for chips, drinks, wine, candy, and more. Make sure you stop by this hidden gem!!

#11. Long Boarder Sandwich, w Turkey & Swiss on a French roll (Added Olives) -- An excellent sandwich!!

Blown away by this spot, and the amazing people that work here! I've been on a sandwich hunt throughout Los Angeles this year and have found one of the best spots EVER at Granny's Grocery! I've never had the owner walk out, introduce herself, and personally walk me through the menu before. Talk about a warm welcome and listening to the customer in front of you (though I actually felt like we were friends by the time I left). Below is what I tried: #11, The Longboarder (With Turkey) - 5+ Stars. Love the options here and love the customizations. Ended up getting it on a French roll, toasted, with Swiss cheese and added Olives. This was packed with fresh ingredients like avocado and sprouts, delicious pickles, perfect proportions and so tasty! This spot is located in a small grocery with a retro vibe and so many great beverages and snack options. Parking was easy, got a spot right in front. Prices were really reasonable, and the wait was minimal for this hand crafted delight. Can't wait to come back, this spot is gold!

Had a rough couple of days but the sweet owners at Granny's can always put a smile on my face. They are so kind and the food is delicious! So appreciated

Excellent, friendly, fast service and DELICIOUS sandwiches. I dropped by for a veggie on squaw and it tasted so fresh and homemade. Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Convenience store has lots of beverages, alcoholic and non. Chips, merchandise, snacks, and some fruit also available. Parking is street parking. Covered bar tables outside.

Exactly as advertised on Google Maps I ordered the Chicken Parmesan Sandwhich and a Diet Coke. They give the soda in the can so I recommend asking for a cup with ice. The food arrived pretty quickly and it looked stunning. The bread was toasted and had a nice brown color. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the crust was not flaky or falling off. The tomato sauce was served in a cup to the side. Which I really loved. The cheese was melted and mixed with the chicken so you tasted the sauce, chicken and cheese with every bite. I would come here again. P.S. I am always wary of getting chicken Parmesan sandwhiches because of the sogginess. Sauce on the side allows you to add it as you need, preventing the sandwhich from becoming soggy.

I sadly never got my lemonade as they didn't give it to me and by the time we got our order I completely forgot about it. The chocolate chip was good it is topped with sea salt. The sandwiches though were not as good as I thought they were going to be. We did add in provolone cheese, but I didn't enjoy the flavoring of the apple butter and that the chicken was chunky. I'm wondering if I'd like a tuna sandwich from here instead. This place has indoor and outdoor seating- I did notice most people chose to sit outside. The customer service was alright. We would not be getting that sandwich again and possibly not visit again especially for the price.

It's unexpectedly large for a place by the shore, and I was thrilled because even though I checked Yelp and Google, I couldn't find much info. This neighborhood really needed a good grocery store, and they have everything: fresh meat, drinks, snacks, fruits just like a full local grocery. The staff was really nice and laid-back, though the only downside is that parking is super limited and intersection it's tough to get in and out since it's near a small with a red light. If you love great meat, a seriously good burger and a gourmet market you can easily get lost in,…read moreThe Butchery in Manhattan Beach needs to be on your South Bay food list. The Butchery is part premium butcher shop, part gourmet market and part "I only came in for one thing and somehow bought dinner for the weekend." The meat cases are filled with gorgeous steaks, chops, roasts, sausages and beautifully marbled cuts that will make you immediately reconsider whatever you were planning to cook for dinner. And you can tell that quality is the whole point here. The cuts are beautiful, the selection is impressive, and the people behind the counter actually know their meat. This is definitely not a grab-a-random-steak-and-hope-for-the-best situation. Then there's the gourmet market. This is where things get dangerous. Specialty foods, cheeses, sauces, seasonings, pantry finds and all kinds of gourmet goodies you didn't know you needed until approximately three seconds after seeing them. The quality of the beef makes all the difference. It's incredibly flavorful with those crispy, caramelized smashed edges, then topped with perfectly melted white American cheese and garlic aioli. So yes, go to The Butchery in Manhattan Beach for the premium meats and gorgeous steaks. Go for the gourmet market and all the things you didn't know you needed.

When the Butchery opened up a couple of years ago, I was curious. It took about 6 months after opening for me to step in. At first impression, I thought the store to be clean, organized, and just gives you the confidence that you're about to get some of the freshest, cleanest, and most high quality meats out there. I didn't buy anything though, instead, I ordered The Butchery Burger with a side of fries to go. In a world that is consumed by smashed burgers, the Butchery Burger is a restaurant quality burger, with a nice thick juicy patty. The burger bun was soft, pillowy, and sweet-- paired with some fresh arugula and tomatoes to cut the richness of that juicy beef patty. The burger comes with a side of beef tallow fries. Speaking of fries-- those beef tallow fries are some of the best I've ever had. Have you ever had a McDonald fry, where the end is a cubed, stubby nubbin. The texture is super crunchy, shatter-crisp, and golden brown. Now imagine that -- but instead of just the end piece, but rather a whole fry-- every single fry. It's salty, crispy, deliciousness with the warm buttery smell of beef tallow. Mmmm... simple perfection! ** Note, I'm sure these are likely one of the most unhealthy fries, but we all have to treat ourselves some time!*** All that on just the Butchery Burger and its fries. It was so good, I had to go back for more-- my 2nd time around, I got the smashed burger. The smashed burger was just as delicious as the Butchery Burger-- just very different. Since the burger came with grilled onions w/ cheese and a nice thick spread of garlic aioli, make sure to add pickles to your pickle to cut through some of that richness and decadence. Upon first bite, it didn't occur to me that the spread was garlic aioli; I actually thought it was a ton of mayo. But it had a garlic and oniony flavor with a bit of sweetness that left me confused and perplexed. I had to keep going back for more. Besides the smash burger, I also grabbed some frozen oxtail and some Argentine shrimp. everything looked super fresh and I can't wait to cook them up! The Butchery is definitely worth a trip-- even if you're not coming for the meat, check it out for the hot foods-- w/ the burgers and fries being the first item to try. You won't regret it!
