This Vons market is always busy. Well stocked and organized. The fruit and vegetables always look fresh. The staff is nice. I just don't understand if they are busy why they only have 1 open cashier. This might be the worst grocery store in the San Fernando Valley. They never have ANYTHING stocked. And they always.....ALWAYS screw up your mobile pick up order. If you are stupid enough to actually go inside you will be waiting an hour at the check out because the women who work the scanners have no interest in your time or if you have anything you need to do. My wife and I stopped by this Vons to do our grocery shopping since we were in the area. We found parking easily near the front entrance and walked inside. This Vons I believe have curbside pickup because I saw the parking spots for them. The flowers are on the left side of the store and the deli is on the right. This Vons is a decent size and has self checkout station along with cashier station as well. The produce area is nicely organized and they were not busy during lunch time. I usually come to Vons for their Friday 5 deals so I wanted some jumbo chicken drumsticks from the deli area. They told me it would be a 30 minutes wait so I decided to not get anything. My wife found everything she needed and I went to the self checkout to pay. There was an employee there to help me void a pack of cherries because the price was high. read more

I bought some roses the day before valentines the next morning they were drooping. I went to Vons complain about the arrangement. I was taking care of by the clerk at the floral section and I was given a new rose arrangement. It took a little bit of convincing, but it worked out at the end. Drive up option was terrible. All the spots are taken by people just parking there while they shop. Had to circle around several times. Also it took almost 20 minutes for my items to come out. They are supposed to be ready ahead of time. This is our store and we have been going here for 35 years. I went to the meat department window to purchase the fresh ground beef to make a holiday meatloaf. It looked fresh and good from my side of the counter but when we opened it for use the freshness was only on the outside with older discolored ground beef on most of the inside. This is the most raggedy supermarket. It's a small store to begin with and then what they have on the shelves you can get next-door at the Vallarta market. For less money, the things that you need to make non-Hispanic food are not on the shelves either because they don't stock it or they're sold out.. There's not a major holiday that that's gone by in the years that I've been shopping here where I have not been able to find something that I need to complete my holiday meal. They're always out of stock for something. You can't find it then today I go in the day after Christmas and they're out of bags!! they told me if I needed a bag I needed to buy one for a dollar because they're out of bags and I would bet money if I went to the back and looked for eggnog or buttermilk or anything along those lines they would be out I didn't even bother. read more

My go- to for special occasions. Bakery goods are especially good. Fresh bread daily and their birthday cakes are better than Costco. Special order meats are no problem, and priced competitively. Check-out staff is helpful and courteous. Baggers are energetic yet careful with purchases. Only downside is absence of shopping cart stalls in the parking lot. I really want to like this store, but until they improve on their customer service, I will give my business to Smart and Final down the street. Thought things would've changed by now but this is the store that makes me feel the least comfortable, I always tell my partner how I hate going to that store as I feel most employees there are not as friendly (only about two are always welcoming), like that older feminine curly hair guy at self check with an accent always has an attitude and sass it's very annoying and asking for bags just makes things even more awkward as he always sounds angry and annoyed we he sees me, so we always try to avoid this store as much as possible. Went to Sylmar Vons this afternoon on my bicycle. Trying to be "green" and not take the car. As I was chaining up my bike to outside of the buggy rack, a Von's employee said " please chain the bicycle somewhere else" I asked "like where ?"..The young lady suggested a 4 foot tall post in front of the store. I said, you mean the one where someone will slide the chain up over the top and my bike will be gone?.. I said , "How about we don't shop at Von's anymore.." Prices are high there anyway.. Low rating for this location, they rarely have fully stocked shelves the few recent visits I have gone here. For example, buying milk for my boys I only purchase organic. They had only 3 containers the last time I came here. Went here to grab some salad, and the entire section probably had only 3 different salads with tons of empty shelves. The main reason I am giving this location a low rating, is this particular cashier. I was purchasing using my credit card. The touch pad indicated "Approved" and he said out loud disrespectfully "Your card was declined" This was very upsetting and I wish I caught his name so I can put him on blast. I replied to his ignorant statement with "It says Approved" he paused and had an unintelligent look on his face and only said "oh nevermind". SMH! I just had an extremely disturbing experience here on the 27th. I have been shopping here almost every single day, I like the employees and the cashiers are so nice. While I was checking out I noticed someone was using the coinstar machine and walked away. When I was done shopping, I was walking to the exit and I saw that there was some change in the coin reject box, which there often is, and I saw some interesting looking coins in there, like maybe foreign currency and old half dollars or something. So of course, I stopped to look at it and the security guard started screaming at me, repeatedly, "Why do you want those coins? Why do you want them?" He was extremely aggressive and mad at me, and I was really weirded out. He ran over and grabbed all the coins and I explained to him that the customer obviously didn't want them. But the security guard said it didn't belong to me and kept insisting that the customer was going to come back and ask for his money. So I agreed to stay and see if the guy was coming back, but of course no one ever comes back, and it wasn't that much money anyways. I was very unnerved that this guard was treating me like a thief and glowering at me because I happened to see some change in the coin return as I was leaving. Then another employee took the coins and started stashing them in the cash register and told me that because the machine was inside Vons all the money was Vons property or something. It was obvious at this point that they were randomly making things up just to avoid admitting that they had lied and the customer wasn't coming back for his $3 in loose change. It is entirely possible that several customers had left coins in the coin reject box and so how would they even know what was his? During this time other customers used the coinstar and they also left some change in it and walked away, but the security guard did not gather any of it or even stop to look, and that has never happened anyways in all the many years I have shopped there, so obviously he was lying about the whole thing. I have often seen interesting coins, some pesos, european money, as I walk out of there, and I actually have a collection that I keep as a result, and it has never been a problem, why would it? It is unbelievably unprofessional that this security guard, and his employee friend, would cause so much harrasment over a handful of change left in the coinstar. I don't even know why they would bother to make this insane fuss over such a small matter. I almost felt like I don't want to come back to this store, ever, even though I have shopped every day for years, because this security guard is always there and it seems like he really doesn't like me, and I don't want to give him any opportunity to find a reason to harrass me again. read more

Overall, very average if you can go elsewhere, do so. I try to avoid whenever possible but unfortunately, I have had been several times due to need and they never fail to disappoint me. The service at the meat/seafood counter is never friendly, they make you feel as we the customers are doing them a favor. The delay is always an issue, staff is lingering around, they see you waiting and don't care to offer help even when no one is there; you literately have to grab their attention. Today, was not the exception, the Filipino lady walked back and forth for about 5 minutes until I grabbed her attention. I asked for 1/4 lb and received 1/2 lb. Then, another employee came by grabbed her attention to sign off some docs and left us hanging. The gentleman at the self check out has always been very nice and attentive. I spoke to him about the issue and he was kind enough to apologize. I am not sure if they care. Since this has been going on for a long time. Furthermore the lady at the deli was separating their fried chicken in a very annoying way, just tossed it from one side to the other of the hot table as if she was pissed. Crap store in a crummy neighborhood. The last two times I've been in this store someone has ran out the front with items. The staff is very friendly, but out of all of the Von's within this area the deli is the smallest, the store is crammed together and isn't laid-out properly, most of the carts are broken and the overall selection is not as robust as other locations. I'm giving my review on an employee from the deli department. Whether it's 1 or 10 persons, each person represents the face of whatever company they work for. Her name is Gudencia. She was very rude, wouldn't listen, was mean to her employees, and refused to service me although i was the only customer there. I had only walked up and told a different employee my appointment time to have an order I put in picked up. As the other employee tried to serve me, this is when she told her no, and made her do other work that had nothing to do with helping me. I stood there for 15 to 20 minutes as Gudencia, the Phillipino woman, continued to put prices on macaroni salads. After 20 minutes I attempted to try to tell Gudencia I had an 1130 appointment and was in a hurry because I had a graduation I was hosting and time was of the essence, but she refused to listen and shushed me, ignored me and continued her other duties. I then told her putting prices on packaged food is more important than serving a customer? She ignored me and the other employee apologized to me but continued to do other work slicing meat as Gudencia insisted she do instead of helping me.after an additional 10 to 15 minutes, then the other employess began to help me. I noticed there are a lot of reviews about her, but no one has mentioned her name. Well, i am today. Who ever hired Gudencia should be fired. I'm sure no manager at that store cares about this review, but this is a classic example of how cold and heartless human beings can be and the lack of love and consideration that's exists in this world. Due to this, a group of kids had to suffer eating late and not having the host there to entertain those arriving.Gudencia, you should be ashamed of yourself. And for how you treated your employee talking to her like a dog. read more

Let me start this review by mentioning the great customer service that I ALWAYS receive from Lorraine, if I was reviewing her I would give five stars. This last visit I witnessed a lady buying groceries for her family and it all looked like necessary items, no junk food but she unfortunately didn't have enough money and had to return some items and she was still short on money to purchase the remaining items and Lorraine stepped in and put up the rest of the change to complete her purchase. I would love to give this Vons 5 stars as I really like shopping at Vons but unfortunately there are other employees that work here that are not as cheerful as Lorraine and actually seem like they don't like their job. Lorraine has worked here for years and We always try to go to her line and she is a veteran so we give extra thanks. This store is generally kept clean and organized, plenty of parking and they always carry the best produce and cuts of meats compared to other markets in the area. They have a flower and succulent area that comes in handy. The butchers here are very accommodating when giving you the style of cut you want. They seem to always carry our favorite brand of champagne Dom Perigñon and at a good price as no other market around here carry's it. If all the workers here had the customer service that Lorraine has I would give this place 5 stars. My wife gets quite a few free things by using their app as well. read more

Love coming to Vons for fruit, or any small craving I have. This store also carries my mom's favorite ice cream, so we frequent quite often. The employees are always nice and if you don't have your Vons card, they'll offer to scan theirs. If you don't have a Vons card, what are you doing? The card saves you money, unlike other stores that offer you points for gas. A lot of items I buy offer a discount with the card. Great prices! Not a bad stop for last-minute grocery needs. It's always stocked and the produce is great, but there are some things that need tidying up. The soup and salad station doesn't really look too clean all the time. It's hit or miss. Racist location. Waiting in line once and the cashier seemed so pleasant talking to everyone until it was my turn. I smiled and said hello but no smile, no hello back. I thought.....okay....and then right after me, super nice again. I'm not Mexican but I live in Sylmar. My problem, right? Tonight, my brother went. He messed up having our little dog with him in his backpack, yes. BUT!!! Some lady tells him dogs aren't allowed. So he leaves right away BUT!!!!! THEN SHE FOLLOWS HIM OUT! Do you know what she says!?!?! "Don't ever f-ing come back! And with your open backpack!" Yup! She said the f-word. Yup! She accused a 38 year old of planning on stealing when a dog was in this "open backpack". What a professional staff. My brother put our dog in the car and went back in to speak with a manager but some supervisor guy says that he's a supervisor and his complaint to a manager wouldn't matter. Unnecessary to follow out a guy who amicably left when told. Unnecessary to tell him not to come back when nothing had happened?!! This led to a confrontation in the parking lot. This Vons became my regular grocery store ever since Ralph's closed down and was replaced by Food 4 Less. It's not the nicest Vons appearance wise, but they have just about everything I need. When comparing to Ralph's, I'm a little disappointed because of the price of meat, but they make up for it with their deals on alcohol. I use the Vons app to get Just for You deals and always come out feeling like I saved money, but who knows... I end up buying a bunch of stuff that wasn't on my list. I called this store today and spoke to Sal. Not sure if he was the manager, but his professionalism and customer service was excellent. I called to inquire about what would be the best time to go to their store during COVID-19 as well as ask if they were stocked with the items I needed to get. Because I heard that other grocery stores had people lining up outside so they could keep the number of people in the store to a minimum, I also asked about that. He told me there was no line to get in, but the checkout lines were long. The best thing about this store is that they do not have self checkouts!!!!! They employ some great people there who are always friendly. I told Sal that the day they get self checkouts is the day I stop being a loyal customer of theirs. Are all Vons inept, or just this one in Sylmar. The customer service is undeniably the worse. No one helps you find anything, no one knows where anything is located and the sales items are always not available. Then when you ask for a rain check, they always question you about product availability and/or product description. And the kicker is the Just 4 U is a scam... on multiple occasion I have gotten home to realize that I didn't get my whole savings. When I went back the Supervisor Elizabeth said yea, sometime it doesn't work.. Then I was told that you have to put in your phone number AND scan the barcode on your Vons app. WTH.. how am I supposed to know this, the cashier should offer that info during the transaction.
